I usually have a pleasant experience at this Peet's shop. This morning around 7am, I place my order and the cashier gives me an attitude and keeps asking what my name is I wasn't sure if she really didn't hear me or not. I ask for a pastry. I leave to wait for my drink. She yells out my name that my pastry is ready and slams it on the coffee bar and walks away like I'm some waste of her time. She is the most unpleasant woman working here. The other staff members here are always so friendly. That is why I'm so upset this woman is allowed to work here. This was the most unpleasant days at this Peet's. I don't know if I'll come back if she's working that day. My poor banana bread I ordered was so hurt being slammed like that. read more

I love this Peet's. After my Thursday afternoon class at Contra Costa, I would go here to wait out the traffic on 4 and get some work done. Looking back, I really did spend hours here and got a lot done. Everyone here from the workers to the patrons are really nice. I would see the same little boy and girl say hi to their mommy who was working behind the counter. A ton of people would tap me and compliment me on my pink MacBook. Some people would thank me for unplugging their computer from the socket when they were ready to leave because I was sitting next to it. Speaking of, there's only one outlet next to wall near the door. Either come fully charged or stake it out and bring an extension cord just in case. Also, always have headphones handy since all the blenders and chatter can get pretty loud. When I got home at the end of the day, I would smell the lingering scent of coffee roast on my clothes. That smell was synonymous to a day well spent and a job well done in Todos Santos Plaza. read more

Alright, I'm raising my hand to admit something. I'm a coffee diva. I don't want to go anywhere else but Starbucks. I don't care about giant capitalist coffee giants taking over the world. In fact I don't care about the world when it comes to coffee. All I want is consistently good coffee, consistently good service and consistently clean locations. I came in to get an iced Americano. I left feeling sticky and icky. Like I had to wash my hands multiple times. My coffee was fine. Service was going through the motions. I was truly more distracted by the grittiness of the place. I usually stop by Starbucks every other day to get my coffee and pastry, but today since I was in Concord visiting a friend, I decided to get a matcha latte from Peet's. BIG MISTAKE. I came in when there was a line of 8-10 people, so decided to set my things down first and wait for the line to die down a bit before getting in line. Within 5 minutes of sitting down, the employee at the cash register left the busy line to personally tell me that seating is for Peet's customers only. Had I been sitting there forever and not purchased a drink I would understand, but I had the full intention of purchasing an item as soon as the line was shorter. I brushed it off as a misunderstanding but was kind of annoyed with her tone and her assumptions. As I was waiting for the line to die down, she yelled over the bar "You have 30 minutes." ....REALLY? The staff here are MIND BLOWINGLY RUDE. I seriously have never been treated so poorly at a cafe. Had I been making some kind of ruckus or refusing to buy a drink I would understand, but that was seriously not the case. I don't think I was even dressed shabbily or something for them to have assumed things about me and treat me in that way (jeans, tshirt, and a sweater not okay?). I honestly tried to brush things off as a misunderstanding so after the line was down to 2-3 people, I went to buy a medium matcha latte with soy. After purchasing my drink and sitting to read by the window, a second employee came and reminded me that the free wifi is for Peet's customers only and literally was holding a timer. I was SO CONFUSED. I saw other customers who were there before me who had not been approached as well as many open tables available. I honestly wondered if they had confused me with someone else...but regardless I've never felt so UNWELCOME and basically HARASSED. I had bought a freakin drink! Definitely never coming back and telling everyone I know to avoid this place. We stopped here for a latte and a chat with a friend on a Saturday morning. For a beautiful weekend day, this place was pretty crowded! Our friend grabbed a table and we got our drinks from the very friendly and pleasant employees. I had a nice little conversation with the woman who made my latte -- as an East Coaster, I'm still trying to get used to the pleasantness in California! The bathroom was very nice & clean, which is probably due to the locked door policy (you have to ask for the key). My only gripe is that the tables were all pretty dirty, which probably speaks more to the amount of people there than the actual cleanliness of the shop. But still, there were crumbs & used napkins all over and I didn't see anyone going around cleaning up. Ew. Nevertheless, this Peet's is a lovely location. I'm here right now. I feel like giving a place 2 stars while I'm there is kinda wrong, but I think my stars are justified. Slow service, rude barista, dirty sugar&cream station and tables. I feel stressed out just sitting here. One girl (who seemed confused) was slowly helping a line of 3 people while the 2 other baristas chatted (loudly) about where one of them wanted to eat for lunch. Can you not see the line forming? Can you help a customer out? I don't care if you don't want to eat Korean BBQ because you don't know the type of food they serve. At least clean the sugar off the sugar&cream station. I had gotten an iced coffee and felt compelled to take several paper towels and wipe the sugar-encrusted counter. Another customer standing next to me said, "I know. It was hard for me not to do the same thing." I went to the counter and asked if I could have a larger cup with ice in it. "What?" "Can I please have a larger cup with ice in it?" "You want a cup of ice?" "... Yes, please." She disappeared for a few seconds, came back and placed it an inch away from the edge of her side of the counter. "Here." and walked away. I just stood there a few seconds surprised, then reached over to the opposite side of the counter to get a cup of ice. Bi+ch. I'm 5'1", so I'm sure there was a few seconds where my feet were dangling in the air as I reached to get my cup. The bf and I are here just killing time before a birthday party in the area, but blech. BF is a Peet's faithful patron, and he's disgruntled too. However, he isn't disgruntled enough to go to Starbucks (he HATES Starbucks). Hahaha. Oh, one last funny thing. The rude barista said to the other, "I just want a shot of expresso." I like this peets. When Jack, Cinzia and Reno would go off to another coffee shop Jack prefers, I'd sneak off and drop in here to grab my large Half Caf Non Fat Latte. It's early in the morning, so parkings not a problem like it might be once Todos Santos gets hopping. I'm so disappointed with my order this morning! I decided to get coffee since we were early and had some time. I put in a mobile order and was expected pick up was between 7:24am to 7:29am. The barista finally called my name at 7:32am. I put the sleeve on the cup and walked out the door with my kids. Tell me why since I'm only a few steps from the door, started the car, reversed and started to drive off, took a sip and the dang coffee was already cold!! makes me wonder how long my drink was sitting there BEFORE he called my name for my order. He was putting together an Door Dash order, saw him put 2 drinks in the bag and then a few minutes later put another two items in the bag, handed over to the person, then he called my name for my drink. So don't tell me it wasn't sitting there. Why would you finish the drink and let it sit there instead of giving it to the customer. Customer service has gone down tremendously. Wasted my $$ on a medium peppermint mocha (they aren't cheap anymore!) and the start of my day! SO SO DISAPPOINTED!!!! read more

I visited this Peet's on a wintery weeknight, and was treated to 30 minutes of surprising bliss! I popped in for a drink and just to escape and chill for a bit, not knowing if that would actually happen as coffee bars can frequently be lively to the point of obnoxious, especially franchise ones. Sometimes it just feels great to be wrong. This location is spacious yet cozy, and the warm interior is even warmer by the light of the evening, as you come in from the cold. I'm a weirdo who likes iced drinks all year long, and I just wasn't in the mood for coffee despite the heavenly aroma in the air. Luckily their tea selection was tantalizing, and I ordered up their pomegranate blueberry iced tea infusion, because I'm a sucka for anything blueberry. The employee helping me was a trainee, and though he seemed a little nervous, he was still all smiles and Disney-level friendly. He will make a fabulous full-timer! My bev was ready in less than 2 minutes, and as I grabbed it off the counter, the lady employee prepping orders enthusiastically told me to enjoy the drink and the rest of my night. Can I just take all these marvelously friendly people home with me?? There were a few other patrons sitting inside, a young man typing away at his laptop, a mother helping her young daughter with her homework - it was like a perfectly cast scene from a movie. There was no better way to play my role as the solo damsel than to grab a table near the front window, leisurely sip my delicious fruity tea, and stare out at the brightly lit trees in Todos Santos Plaza as holiday tunes played overhead. This is the life. In fairness I am usually a Starbucks girl, but the God of Peets welcomed me with open arms that night, and I look forward to returning to this location and others! I love Peet's. I prefer Peet's over Starbucks any day of the week. However, this Peet's makes me hate Peet's. I don't know why I continue to come to this location. The line is always outrageous and the staff is slow to ring you up and even slower to make your drink. If they aren't slow to ring you up and you get through the line straight away, you're probably going to wait 20 minutes for a drink. Not to mention all those people behind you in line are probably going to get their drink before you get yours. Infuriating. So, by the time you get your drink, approx. 25 minutes of waiting, you're ready to take your sip of coffee. WELL BEWARE to burn your MOUTH OFF. I don't know why this Peet's turbo blasts your drink, but they do. The drinks taste good, but you're going to have to wait an hour to be able to actually drink it. This Peet's location needs to whip out their staff and replace everyone. I will say that the young girl with big framed glasses does a good job and keeps you informed on where your drink is at. This Peets has the worst customer service ever. Came in, bought drink, finished my drink and tossed it in the trash. Sat at the table reading for about 20 mins. Staff came over and told me that the table is for customers only so I told her that I already finished my drink and will get another one later. She then proceed to say "well, we still need to use this table" and quickly turned and walked away. There were 3 other empty tables and no one waiting for a table. Post-Spaghetti Factory food-coma, the group of us decided to hit up Pete's Coffee for a night cap. I mean hell, we had a little bit of a drive ahead of us... and being full from all that pasta, there would definitely be some sleep-inducing feelings hitting us fast. For me.... a small Caffe Mocha did the trick. I was good to go on that alone! One thing I liked about Peet's... their sizes. None of this bullshit "tall," "grande," or "venti" crap that you see. Seriously, I don't appreciate the deception of "tall" being the equivalent of a midget lifting weights his whole life. A "tall" should be actually tall... otherwise, call that shit "tiny." Whatever, I don't need to talk about their competitor anymore. So... I didn't have to add any sugar or anything. A small spritz of whip cream, and I was on my way to a pretty good tasting experience. Granted that I haven't had Peet's Coffee in quite sometime, somewhat on purpose, I was impressed with the level of quality here. I wasn't expecting much, so this was a nice surprise. It's not Philz Coffee, but it most certainly hit the spot with an equal mixture of chocolate and coffee. I mean hell, it's midnight now, and I'm somewhat wired still... so it's definitely doing its thing. The place was clean, there was plenty of seating (then again, it WAS close to closing), and we were never rushed to finish our drinks and GTFO. I'm generally a fan of Peet's - I'm addicted to their raspberry mocha - and this location is right down the street from Half Price Books, so I thought it'd be a winner. Not quite. My bear claw was so stale it was hard. For a pastry that is mostly "flaky" croissant, that's unnerving. My mocha was delicious, but I waited 20 minutes for it. (The place was nearly empty.) There were empty tables all over the place, but all of them were dirty. I cleared my own and sat down. When I received my coffee I went to sit outside - where I and another Peet's customer were approached by a very aggressive druggie trying to bum cigarette money. So much for a relaxing coffee break. -The Good This Peet's Coffee & Tea location is still my favorite to date. I am a regular and come in pretty often, at least 5 days a week. I usually order a regular coffee off of the urn (always freshly brewed), while my wife usually goes with one of the seasonal flavored latte, hot chocolate, or freddos. I always sample what my wife orders off the bar and I'm *NEVER* disappointed in the quality. The baristas at this Peet's location really set the bar high for quality service. Whether I'm in the mood for a regular coffee or a finely crafted espresso drink I know it'll be just perfect here and the wait is never too long for the quality, even at peek business hours. The atmosphere inside is always happy and cheerful with a dash of sophistication. The employees are always friendly and willing to engage in friendly chatter, especially the eccentric bald one. The employees here have an impressive knowledge of their product. If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask. They love to share information about where the coffee comes from and the subtle flavors that differs between them. The pastries are yummy, my favorite is the florentine cookie. My wife likes the scones, they go well with hot beverages. We don't always purchase a pastry but they are fresh every time we do. -The Bad The panhandlers outside the shop can become quite aggressive and rude which sometime dulls the atmosphere. Do your job Concord PD. The Peet's employees do what they can, but it's not really their responsibility. -Over all? I had a great experience here. I dropped in on my way to BART one morning and even though I am not a morning person, I was greeted warmly and my drink was nice and hot, (I ordered a mocha with whip) and left happy! The place is clean, bathroom accessible and clean. Parking is good at that time during the day and I could see myself coming back here. Especially since I am going back to school soon, the free wi-fi could come in handy with my espresso! Oh, one star taken off because they allow smoking outside. YUCK! read more

Sunday was the first time I've ever tried Peet's coffee, and the experience was amazing. THE WAIT: There was only one cashier so the line was moving pretty slowly and on top of that there was a long line. Took me about 15 minutes to get to the cashier. However, as I was waiting I observed their cashier, baristas, etc and noticed how they make sure their customers are receiving the best attention and service possible. MENU OPTIONS: There's a good amount of drinks to choose from, as well as their food/snack items. Their drink options are similar to Starbucks. DRINKS: I ordered a White Chocolate Mocha and a Matcha Green Tea Javiva Blend. And both.. Were absolutely delicious! The matcha was sweeter and thicker whereas the mocha was had a stronger taste and lighter. SERVICE: While I was waiting in line, I observed the cashier, fair-skinned female with stylish glasses and hoop earrings. She was familiar with her regular customers. She was incredibly friendly and I was honestly getting excited for her to take my order! However, the cashier changed to a (possibly Hispanic? Unsure) man. I was only disappointed for a quick second because his customer service was amazing as well. He was kind and after he asked for my name, from that point on he addressed me by name. Thank you for helping me device on getting the Matcha Javiva Blend! Lastly, the barista was so friendly. As she made the drinks she would call out the name and inform them about its status and whatnot. She gave off a warm positive vibe. When she handed me my drinks, she said she was confident that they came out well- and they certainly did. Thank you for putting such care into my drinks!! CONCLUSION: I will definitely come here again if I'm ever in the area. The drinks were great but customer service is so important to me and that's a huge reason as to why I would come back. The chai latte was executed well - hot, delicious, with the right amount of foam and milk. I like this Peets. There isn't one close to my home, so when I am near by I try to stop in for something special. They try to remember your name when they see you more than once. I like the vibe in here. People aren't stuck up or snobby, I can get that feeling when I go to starbucks most times. On my most recent trip to Peets I was double charged for a cup of coffee, no biggie. I informed the employee (who just so happened to be the one who double charged me) and she went right to work, correcting her mistake. She asked me if she could replace the coffee I already paid for and then gave me two coupons for more coffee.. She made me feel all special. I moved to Concord recently and discovered Peets on Ygnacio Valley Rd and Clayton Rd. My love of Peets includes HOW NICE THE STAFF IS, it makes the experience good or not. It is the second time I go here and THEY ARE NOT NICE. One clerk ignored me, may he's hard of hearing?, the cashier finally did but was warm and welcoming. I was looking for the spot where the online orders are placed once ready. He acted like he was doing ME a favor. This is my neighborhood coffee house so of course I'm going to give it preferential treatment. The funny thing about this location is that it doesn't feel like a chain cafe. The staff in here is always friendly and prompt, I never see anyone slacking. It's very clean; they take the trash out regularly so you don't have to try to stuff your mocha cup in the top of the garbage fearful that it will spill on the floor the second you step away. There's wi-fi, although there's only one table that's next to an outlet, so charge your laptop before you come in. The outdoor seating is nice for the summer time, there's plenty, and folks like to bring their dogs. Half the time that I come in, I'm too caffiene-deprived to realize that I ordered my drink without soy milk, and they always remember to ask me when this happens. I've never had a drink made wrong either. Their cookies are awesome, and they actually carry vegan pastries, unlike any coffee house I can think of that's local. Try their vegan ginger or the vegan oatmeal cookies, they're delicious. My favorite drink is a medium soy latte with only one shot of espresso; the ratio comes out tasting like a golden graham. read more

Great location right on Todos Santos Plaza and it's very nearly always busy, so they must be doing something right. I've never, not once, in the many times that I've come here, ever had poor customer service, so props to the hiring manager because you picked some excellent baristas. I can also usually find a place to sit, even if it ends up being outside. The only qualm I have is the set up of seating and the line for coffee, they seem to always be too precariously close to one another. I'm not sure how I would have designed the space any better, but there you go, nothing's ever perfect. On the whole 90% of the drinks I get here are good to great. There's an occasional "not as great" beverage now and then, but then again, I'm a bit of a latte snob (though I never complain or carry on about it, it is just coffee after all).
