The Everything Plant-Based Sandwich. Make sure you ask for hot sauce!
    James K.

A pretty nice Peet's! (Ethical rating: 3.5 Green Stars) [[HIGHLIGHT]]This Peet's Coffee in the West end of Alameda is pleasant for various reasons: There's usually lots of space, including outdoor seating with leafy shade; staff members are friendly; the music is not too loud; and it's clean, with clean restrooms too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Peet's had gradually improved when it comes to plant-based offerings. There's the vegan "Everything Plant-Based Sandwich" (an Impossible sausage patty combined with vegan egg and cheddar on a thin bagel) which isn't bad when combined with hot sauce. Unfortunately they did away with the other (better) vegan savory offering last year - the Mediterranean flatbread - so it would be nice to see something to replace it. On the sweet side, the morning glory muffin is vegan and also happens to be one of the best things in the pastry case. And thanks in large part to a campaign supported by Paul McCartney, there's now no extra charge for plant-based milks! I'm also giving the Peet's 3.5 out of 5 "Green Stars" for social and environmental impact, based on this: * Reasonable selection of vegetarian items and a vegan sandwich, muffin, and brownie. * Peet's have been better than most other US chains (Starbucks, Philz) at introducing coffee that's organic, shade-grown (e.g., certified Smithsonian Bird Friendly), or processed by the natural method, etc. Having said that, there aren't that many certified coffee beans on sale at the moment. None that are fair trade certified, that I can see and just a couple that are certified organic. Perhaps the best option is the Yosemite Dos Sierras, which is organic and also certified bird friendly (Smithsonian). It's also one of their best coffees. * Peet's allows customers to bring their own coffee mugs again & gives a 25 cent discount for using one. * Peet's main coffee roastery in Alameda is certified LEED Gold- the first in the US. (LEED = Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) * Peet's has now merged with Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) and the joint venture had its IPO in 2020 on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange. JDE scores poorly for ethics, for example on Ethical Consumer. * Peet's sells coffee pods (and JDE sells two machines that use pods), encouraging plastic waste. * Peet's doesn't reports enough on social and environmental impact (e.g., coffee pricing) for a company of this size. So a mixed bag from Peet's: Better than Starbucks or Philz but not as good as some other local spots. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, please check out the Green Stars Project.

I love this place. Employees are very nice and friendly. Food is always fresh and tasty.

I went to try the new Dubai matcha drink. All I got was a lot of ice and less product to drink. Real sad

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Excellent service, very roomy location, parking lot with marks Peet's spots[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and a Berkeley-based chain that long knew not to add sugar to a ceremonial tea powder (e.g., matcha) unless upon request. The chain in general can do the sparking cold brews similar to the espresso tonics I had in North Carolina. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good place to work on a Sunday afternoon[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Everything Plant-Based Sandwich and Ice mocha

First time here and I wanted to try their plant base breakfast sandwich. Sandwich is a good size taste blends well, for me I didn't even noticed it's not meat, very light in taste. My drink is ice mocha and it's okay I can taste it strong. Overall for the last two months this will be my 2nd time visiting Peet's and trying their food and drinks. Service was fast and nice gentlemen assisting us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance plenty space, spread out area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I love the staff here. I came in with my SO to grab an afternoon caffeine pick-me-up and was greeted upon entrance. The barista who checked us out was a character, which put a smile on our faces. The store is spacious and warm. There is street parking and a parking lot in the back. There is a drive-thru. There are indoor and outdoor seating.

Service was fast and the drink was tasty. No waiting in the drive thru lane. They made recommendations on what I was craving. Worked was very nice and welcoming.

I came in around 8:30, a few tables outside had people drinking their coffees and eating breakfast. When I walked in, only one guy was waiting for his order. There was only one person working. I understand she was the only one preparing coffee and food. I'm not trying to complain about the wait, but the lack of acknowledging a customer to say it will take some time. I finally ordered an iced latte. I do think they have some creative drinks, but I know they are usually too sweet and I just opt for a plain iced latte instead. It was an ok latte, nothing amazing. They have a bulletin board for people to post their flyers or business cards. There was a card on the board that said A.W.A.R - All woke are retards. It's such a special place, with the beautiful china and lovely outdoor seating. I really enjoy seeing people dressed up when they come here. Afternoon tea is a special occasion and you should always dress the part! What I really appreciate is how kid friendly they are. My friend and I had no idea how our kiddos would do but they absolutely enjoyed it. The Wee Tea menu is perfect for them - a choice of herbal tea (the blue flower tea a was a fun pick) or a hot Milo (Malaysian hot chocolate, complete with whipped cream and sprinkles.) My son was in heaven...and the platter hadn't even come out yet. On to the food. I did find our last visit a bit lacking in the sandwiches. I'm still giving them five stars but since I have been dining here over the years, I could see a difference and the sandwiches were skimping on the filling. One of my sardine sandwiches barely had any sardines, just the sauce. But again, that wasn't the norm so I'll just take it as a one time thing. Now back to the kids' tea, in addition to their sandwiches (my son inhaled his Kaya toast) they had butterfly marshmallows and even cotton candy cones! It was adorable. I would definitely return with my little one, but be warned that your kiddos will be loaded with sugar afterwards. What a fun experience!

The set up is very tight - we got the window table and people had to scootch into the corner, with no way out unless everyone left. The staff were nice to wait for all of our attendees prior to starting, and then they promptly took our tea orders. We had already put in our food order when we made the reservation, so they brought out the tiered plates after the tea was served. - FOOD/DRINK - I enjoyed my White Tea, but unfortunately, I don't remember what it was called. Each pair got a tower, so since we had 10 people, we got 5 towers. My favorites from our selection: - Kaya Sandwich - Umami meatfloss with basil house spread Sandwich - Curry Chicken Sandwich - Scone The desserts were a bit lackluster in my opinion. I was really looking forward to the pandan cake, but it didn't taste a lot like pandan. - OVERALL - A cute spot for afternoon tea, or if you're celebrating something! Their menu selection is wide, offering a variety of lattes, coffees, and teas, but also both pastries and small meals as well. It's no wonder why they're always popping around this time of day. Although I haven't tried many of their drinks, I can say that their matcha latte has been consistently good. Today I ordered one with almond milk and the matcha flavor is nicely balanced. Good ratio between matcha and milk. The matcha itself tastes pretty well rounded - not bitter, but also not too subtle in flavor. I probably got the matcha here like three times and it has not failed me yet. My partner really enjoys the Malasada but they can sell out pretty quickly. Previously I've tried their Ube Crinkle and their donuts and they were pretty good as well. This time, I wanted something a little less sweet and small so I tried the Bibingka which was great! I love mochi and the Bibingka had a mochi texture to it. It comes with some pineapple bits which I tend to avoid, but my desire to try something new overrode that today and thankfully, the bits were small. It's a dense little bite, but I enjoyed it! A perfect little bike treat. I don't get much interaction here with the workers since it's such a quick stop, but it's okay. I think depending on what time you go, it just gets really busy and employees are just trying to chug out the orders. We'll be back again for those delicious drinks and pastries though!
