I'm glad we got to experience this new restaurant in Austin. I made reservations in advance online for 5pm (Monday evening). We got there and clearly did not need reservations as the restaurant was basically empty at that time. We noticed it started getting some traffic closer to 6pm. They do have happy hour but it only goes until 5pm (too early in my opinion). The location was a little tricky to find, it's basically tucked behind Clark's and the art gallery. The nice thing is the gallery parking spots are available at 5pm which made finding a spot to park easy. Overall the food and ambiance were great. I did find overall that things were overpriced (cocktails were about $17ea) and the cheese ravioli was $28. The chilled snow crab salad is a must! read more

Pecan Square Cafe - Appetizer & Bottle wine. Both delicious - New American Near Me - Austin, Texas

One of the newer additions in the MML family, but a best kept secret for the most incredible bar with a view in Austin. They even have their own single-barrel blend of High West bourbon. Cocktails and dessert are a must. The very best chocolate mousse I've ever had. Service is elegant, thoughtful. Dinner menu needs some work, but Clark's is around the corner. read more

I was so excited to try this spot with my girlfriends. As for pros, PSC has a great ambiance and an amazing wait staff. The drinks were delicious and the highlight of our experience. All of that to say, the food is far overpriced for the portions, and the flavor of each dish was hit or miss. The crab salad and onion fritters were nothing to write home about. The squash blossom pizza was also just okay, but for the price, we were expecting it to be exceptional. The fish entree was probably the most raved about, but again, portions were tiny and my friend was left still feeling hungry after she completed her meal. If you're hungry, the chicken or the steak are your best bets, but expect to pay a premium for those options. One more thing to call out for friends who are gluten-free due to food allergies - there are no clear GF indications on the menu. We emailed in advance to make sure that there would be GF-friendly options available, and were assured that there would be, but the wait staff answerd "I think so" and "maybe" when we asked if certain options were GF upon arrival. She mentioned that she'd follow up to confirm, but that never happened. This may not be a huge issue for people who are gluten insensitive, but for two of my friends who have celiac, this made them quite uncomfortable. TLDR: I spent $90 on two appetizers and two drinks. read more

Yum! I dream of the goat milk ricotta and sweet corn ravioli. It was so good that we ordered it a second time for the table. All the pasta was delicious. And the pizza too which I didn't take a photo of. The steak we could have done without, just wasn't our favorite dish compared to everything else. The service was great, and they didn't rush us out when we were finished which I always appreciate. Overall the meal was pricey though, personally I would only return to celebrate a special occasion. read more

Returned here because my mom was in town and really wanted to try it out. Adding a star back for excellent service. Our server was attentive and we never had to flag someone down to help. We had the same busser -- he even remembered us -- friendly as ever. Got a couple of the same dishes as last time, along with the Crepe Suzette (super unique and great balance of citrus and the ricotta) and blueberry tea cake (loved the density with the glaze on top). After we left, my daughter went to see the coy fish and a manager came out and brought pellets for her to feed the fish. Super thoughtful! read more

Their potato pizza and the gin drink alone should make you wanna go there. We also tried their take on the margherita pizza and it was meh. My friends tried the sausage pizza but even they preferred the potato pizza over their meat pizza. Pricey but the potato pizza is hands down worth it! read more

Tried the new @pecansquarecafe last night! Started with the Zucchini Frito with a Green goddess dipping sauce and Chilled Snow Crab Salad. Moved onto the Cavatelli pasta with pancetta and pecorino Romano and finished off with the Coulette steak with salsa verde. It's a bit pricy but worth a try. Let us know if you give it a try and what you think! read more

We couldn't wait to try this new MMH cafe. The inside dining area and bar was small but nice. I already had decided on the kale sausage pizza but didn't know if we would have the greens salad or zucchini fries (which looked amazing)! We opted for the salad instead of the huge bowl of fries! Both the pizza and salad were delicious! Now I must return to have those zucchini fries and perhaps sit outside on their patio. read more

Newest MML concept certainly didn't disappoint us for lunch! Stopped in Pecan Square Cafe and have to say I was mildly impressed and not just with the food. The old cafe Josie has been transferred into an open airy restaurant with plenty of natural lighting and wood tones not to mention the impressive fireplace tucked into the corner. If your into cocktails you will love the huge bar when you walk in but let's get down to how the drinks stack up. I went with the Spring Mezcal Daisy which was refreshing as it sounds with a hint of smokiness. For the main course I went with the waiters recommendation and got the sausage and kale pizza while my partner got the snow crab salad. Both dishes were perfectly portioned and the ingredients used were super fresh from what we could taste. Besides everything already mentioned have to say service was spot on which is much appreciated in these difficult times. Food is a bit on the pricier side and that goes even more so for the dinner menu but for the experience it was worth it to me and looking forward to coming back in the future for new sessional selections. read more

The food and ambiance here are great! No questions asked, another well executed concept from MMH! I can't speak for dinner, but the brunch menu is pretty odd... Would've given it 4-5 stars, but they need to do something about the brunch menu. It's hard to nail down a theme here. Like boutique modern german-seafood? I'm not really sure. Mayo shrimp, Fish eggs, Squash Pizza, Tagliatelle Pasta, and Pork Schnitzel on a brunch menu... Where's the classics?! -- Bacon and eggs, Pancakes, crepes, biscuits, etc. I'm all for branching out and trying something new, but give us some staples. The previous restaurant they pushed out via rent hike (Cafe Josie) had such a great brunch menu with all the classics. When people think of that location, they think of what was at Cafe Josie. Wish they applied the same logic that MMH used when they turned Sweetish Hill into Swedish Hill. It's like they took all the great parts of Cafe Josie, and then blew up the menu. This is a good restaurant, but I know it can be a great one! I'll be back when I see the menu change. read more

Food is always incredible. Great vibes, very cozy and comfortable. Consistently friendly service - one of my favorite go to spots.

My friend an I just found this little hidden gem right behind Clark's. Follow the red light. It is a beautiful restaurant and the bar is really a vibe. The food we tried was beautiful, delicate and delicious. We had drinks and three appetizers. The snow crab, smoked fish dip & the zucchini fries. ALL amazing and our waiter Paul was amazing and attentive and actually recommended all of the appetizers that we loved. Paul is great! Hope you get him as a server. Also, either the hostess or manager (in black outfit) came to check in on us and towards the end to see how we enjoyed everything. I didn't know people still did that in restaurants BUT she absolutely lovely and also made the experience from beginning to end wonderful. Can't wait to come back and try the pizza and homemade pasta! Thanks everyone, Tim & Sonia read more

This was refreshing. They have managed to innovate in a way that blends what you want from a classic, but in a way that isn't stale. Across the board, foood, driiiiink, service style. Outside and Inside where compelling but we ended up eating at the bar and couldn't have been happier. Everyone was super accommodating and really knowledgeable. read more

Just had a really delightful date night dinner at Pecan Square Cafe!! I loved the Bie's Knees cocktail, it was perfectly balanced. We started with the chilled blue crab salad and got an order of the charred green beans to snack on, and both were so good. Then we tried the tagliatelle and the kale + sausage pizza -- the pasta was perfectly al dente, I wanted the tiniest bit more parmesan or another salty element on this but it was still really good. The pizza was excellent, really flavorful and the most perfect crust!! We weren't planning to stay for dessert but the atmosphere was so warm and inviting and enjoyable that we decided what the heck...and it was the right choice!! We had a glass of Maysara Jamsheed Pinot Noir (I literally wrote down the name because I liked it so much) and the chocolate mousse, which was SO GOOD my goodness. The only caveat I'll give here is that it's a little on the pricey side for certain dishes--but you can taste the quality and expertise that goes into each one, so I'd say it's definitely worth it. I can't wait to go back and try more! read more

Amazing amazing amazing. One of the best new restaurants in Austin hands down. A must-try for dinner! The ambiance, the service, the food, the drinks...everything was fantastic from start to finish. Their zucchini fries are wonderful, as is the ravioli and the pizza. And the drinks are top-notch. This is a great spot if you're looking to split a few items with some friends, grab a drink, and enjoy a nice night out. read more

We had a great evening celebrating our anniversary. Beautifully renovated restaurant, but what stood out was the service. Everyone from the host to to waiter to the sommelier recognized our anniversary, and again when we left. It was a nice touch. Our water and wine was continually refreshed but without interruption. Made for a special night. It was a Friday, lively with a mix of patrons young and old. Though the menu leans a little pricy, there are plenty of options that are less so. We had 3 courses beginning with a light pesto infused minestrone-- absolutely delicious. We also tried the mustard green fritters (everyone seemed to be ordering that). The fritters, as expected, we're deep fried and a little greasy, but the green goddess caper rich sauce was incredible. I would order and take home if they bottled that! My husband ordered the steak, which was generous in portion and served with a pungent arugula salad. Nice combo. I ordered the fish, which was beautifully prepared with fennel and turnips, but not as light as expected. Very buttery. My husband ordered the chocolate mousse, which was quite rich and filling after a large meal, not that he was complaining. My only disappointment and why this is 4.5 and not 5 star is lack of lighter veggie forward options beyond a salad. With such a small creative menu, I'm sure they could add a rotating vegan entree to reflect the season. That said... still highly recommend!! read more

This place was great; made a reservation for four (my wife and I and another couple) ahead of time and were seated promptly when we arrived. Very nice decor and vibe inside. Noise level was decently high (likely due to the tile floors) but not bad as long as you know what to expect; it didn't interfere with conversation. Drinks were superb, with an excellent cocktail, beer, and wine menu. Menu layout was the standard "share plates with entrees" setup that is popular these days; my wife and I ordered the Oeufs Mayonnaise and the Goat Milk Ricotta Agnolotti to split, both of which we highly recommend. We got the Bavette steak and short rib for our mains, which were also both outstanding. All of the food was excellent, and the cocktails were amazingly well done too. Definitely a classier / more upscale place to eat price-wise but I would say you definitely get what you pay for, we did not feel like we were overcharged or getting ripped off. Highly enjoyed our dinner and we will definitely return! read more

Pecan Square Cafe - The Winter Mezcal Daisy cocktail, which was definitely our group favorite - New American Near Me - Austin, Texas

Best dinner I've had in Austin, everything was absolutely amazing (food, drinks, location, and service).

Lovely. Just lovely. We came for lunch on a Friday (with a reservation). We were greeted immediately and taken into the main dining room, which is bright, aesthetically pleasing, and full of natural light. I got the The Pink Moon (a pink vodka drink) to start. My husband, who is a coffee aficionado, got an oat milk cappuccino and said it was smooth, velvety, and nutty. Everything on the food menu sounded great, so we asked our server (who was wonderfully friendly and attentive) to decide for us. He brought us the crab salad first, which was delicious -- so fresh and a perfect blend of flavors. Then we had the kale and sausage pizza, which was fantastic -- the tomatoes on it were actually the highlight for us; they were so flavorful. Then we had the pork shoulder schnitzel, which was tender and crispy at the same time, and paired with the root vegetable slaw and mustard, was superb. We can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. Parking was a bit of a hassle, being on W 6th, so if you go, factor in an extra 10 minutes to park. But it's so worth it. Highly recommend. read more

Definitely has great potential - great space, great drinks, very good service. Only complaint is that many of the courses were unnecessarily salty. Even the summer melon and all of the pastas. Would still recommend it though, I think that's very fixable. read more

Disappointed.. way over priced. Don't order the short rib. I spent $40 on the smallest piece of meat that was 98% fat.. had to stop by McDonalds on the way home because the three bites of meat that I actually had didn't satisfy (shocking). 2 stars because the interior is great. And that's the only redeeming quality. read more

Really wanted to try this new cafe. Unfortunately we encountered rude and unwelcoming staff and decided not to continue our experience here. Arrived ~five minutes before the cafe's official opening time on a rare cold morning in Austin. The door was unlocked and another patron was waiting to be seated, we thought. The person behind the bar told us they weren't open yet. We said we knew and apologized and asked if we could wait inside. We were told no, and were kicked out of the building. We weren't trying to get a seat early--it was 38 degrees out and we were looking to stand somewhere warm! That was apparently unacceptable to the staff and we chose to leave. Disappointing. read more

I ate dinner at Pecan Square Cafe with my girlfriend and two friends. My main take always based off my experience there was that the food was over priced, the food was pretty average and the service could have been better. I would not go back for these reasons. Here's what was ordered - Marinated olives - pretty standard dish of olives - chilled snow crab - over priced for a small dollop of snow crab but overall the group enjoyed it - Hand cut tagliatelle - this was pretty tasty, the pasta was good and I enjoyed the pesto - Sausage & shishito pepper pizza - I didn't try this but the group did enjoy it as a shareable dish read more

Woah this was an excellent experience. Food, ambiance, and service were 5 star. Get the foi gras and fried zucchini strings for apps. The boys loved the flank steak and pork schnitzel. I loved the homemade cavatelli pasta. Top notch restaurant in Austin but note it's hard to find because it's not visible from the street. Pecan square cafe offers some great options, yet I have some qualms. The pricing to portion ratio brings the star count down for me. Small portions, big prices. The menu was small and didn't offer as much as I would have liked. The cocktails left me unsatisfied. Limited seating, little tables, small portions are the name of the game here. GO TRY it, come to your own conclusions. That's all. read more

Our initial reaction was this is a pretty typical MML restaurant, really great space with a nice bar. Our waiter (I cannot remember his name) was wonderful, nice and knowledgeable. We started with the smoked tamara dip, the crab salad and local lettuces. The salad was simple, delicious and fresh, a pinch of salt added great flavor. The tamara dip is basically mayo with some trout roe, pretty boring and nothing much to it. The crab salad was fine, but I would not order it again. By the end of the appetizers, we noticed the chairs are not very comfortable for a long dinner. For our entrees, we split the Tagliatelle pasta, which was excellent. I've heard the pastas are the best part of the menu (maybe they would do better by making it an Italian restaurant). The fish of the day was trigger fish served over crispy rice. It was fresh and prepared beautifully over a rice that was crispy and tasty. They were our favorites. Then, we got the chicken. It should have been the star for $42 per 1/2 and $80 for a whole chicken. It was golden brown and gorgeous but didn't live up to its top billing. It's served with crispy potatoes and disappointing cabbage in a wonderfully garlic jus. I will happily return to Pecan Square, but will stick to the fish and pastas. read more

The food was average, didn't leave me wanting to come back for more. What really upset me is that we asked for the checks, plural and the server brought one. I asked if she could split them and she said "yeah four ways?". I said no we would like four checks, one for each of us. She definitely had attitude but brought them out and they were all mixed up. She also charged me $19 for my Bloody Mary that was only $15 but my friends were embarrassed to be confrontational so I let it go. When she finally ran our cards she charged the wrong cards for the different meals so we ended up having to do the math ourselves and Venmo each other. Maybe she's having a bad day and having trouble focusing but this experience leaves us not wanting to come back. read more
