My co-workers and I stopped here for lunch. It's 8-10 miles east of I-45 just south of Centerville. It's rural Texas chic! Our waitress Jamie was an absolute delight; very sweet and informative. I had the ribeye cheeseburger and tots. Both were very fresh, hot and delicious; the burger was fried to perfection. My friends had chicken-fried steak and chicken-fried chicken. They assured me they were both very good also; they certainly looked good! The cream gravy, which for me can make or break a good chicken-fried steak, was also very good. That's true, but let me tell you Pecan Grove Cafe is tight there with them. Just a simple Cafe with plenty of choices. I had the Texas Dip. What a delightful find for lunch! Quaint small cafe not far off I45 and worth the short detour. We were met by an energetic waitress who helped us know the favorites on the menu. So we were traveling from Houston area to DFW and had our 3 dogs with us and need a lunch stop. WOW! We got there around lunch time and they were busy but the food was worth the wait and it was the perfect day for sitting outside on the picnic tables. We had the bacon cheese rib-eye burger and the Texas Dip sandwich! These were amazing, fresh, perfectly cooked, and the flavor was wonderful. The dipping sauce for the Texas dip was not just a canned beef broth, it was homemade from the roast drippings and the cheddar jalapeño roll was soft and delicious with just a hint of jalapeño heat. This is a small town restaurant that's a convenient lunch stop between Houston & Dallas. Small menu so we went with the burgers based on the photos and reviews. The burger looked great and the fries were good but I didn't love the flavor of the meat. The meat was exceptionally fatty and just a weird, different flavor I couldn't enjoy. I found this place on Yelp, looking for a spot to eat along 45 on my way to and from Texas A&M. It's an awesome family diner, serving some of the best CFS I have ever had. Super crispy crust, and I didn't have to ask for the gravy on the side! Delicious home fries too. She had a double meat Cheeseburger, and it was excellent. Came with Lays potato chips. I am sure she could have subbed them for something else. Pecan cobbler was fantastic. I didnt care for the peach as much, as they seem to use spiced peaches, but that is a matter of taste. It was generous, with lots of delicious crust. Very short hours make it difficult for me to get here, as I am usually either in a hurry or coming through at the the wrong time. This place was awesome! You can only find them on google maps though. The apple maps took us in the wrong direction. They are right off the highway and make a great place to stop for lunch or dinner on the drive between Dallas and Houston. The waitstaff are extremely friendly and hospitable. It truly was a taste of southern hospitality. The menu had about 10-15 items for lunch which is perfect to choose from. I had a shrimp and my mother had the jambalaya. The food looked amazing when it came out. The jambalaya seemed to have been made wrong that day though. It was extremely salty to the point of being inedible. The restaurant generously waived it off our bill and gave us a choice of another entree. We got to take the jambalaya home where we rinsed it with water a couple of times and cooked some more rice into it before eating. (still quite good!) read more

We had the Texas dip, the pimento cheese sandwich and the chicken salad. Everything is homemade. Ride the bike up with my wife on a beautiful morning to have lunch and give Pecan Grove a try. Upon arriving we knew we were in for a treat. The parking lot was grass, and there were shady spots out back. We parked the bike under a large shade tree and went inside. Instantaneous country charm and hospitality as we were invited to choose a table or booth. Big ol' iced teas, and we relaxed for a few minutes before ordering. I chose the garlic burger with pan fried potatoes, and my wife had a cheeseburger with fries. The beef in the burger was outstanding, and the food was only a prelude to what came next. Great stop and will be back again! I tried the chicken fried steak. It did NoT disappoint. Nicely battered, tender steak. Nice thick homemade gravy. And the fries...YUM. This is a great place and today appeared to be one of only a few places open. They do close at 2 pm though so be ready for lunch. Lots of families there and everyone was super nice and made us feel at home. The food was great and the yellow tablecloths brighten up the place. Road trip treasure. Great stopping point between Houston and Dallas for a quick lunch! Less than three minutes off of 45, and easy to find. Pull up off the shoulder into the grass and park right out front. Friendly wait staff. Impeccably clean, including the restroom, and cutely decorated with down home flare. Good strong iced tea. Salad was fresh and clean, with no funky pieces of lettuce. Excellent grilled chicken breast with mushrooms and onions. The onion rings were great with voluminous batter, nice and crispy. Less fry on the French fries, but they were equally delicious. Try substituting chicken breast (as per our waitress' recommendation) instead of a beef patty on the ultimate burger (it's a pimento-avocado love fest, with mayo snuck in). Will return next time it's meal time and I'm on 45. read more
