Mimsy's serves up some impressive barbecue in a fantastic setting. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The venue itself is great, with a nicely decorated space that offers both inside and outside seating, along with a kids' play area--a huge plus for families. Now, on to the food. The brisket was a definite standout. It had a wonderful, rich flavor, and the salt and pepper (SP) bark was spot-on, providing a perfect crust. A nice, prominent smoke ring and a healthy amount of rendered fat made for a tender and juicy bite. The ribs were also solid. They had a great pull from the bone, but I noticed a slightly overpowering "hammy" flavor that detracted a bit from the classic barbecue taste I was hoping for. The house-made birria sausage was a fantastic surprise. It had a delicious mix of pork and beef, complemented by melted cheese and a good kick of chili. The casing had a satisfying snap, which I appreciate. For sides, the Maple Sprouts were exceptional. They were perfectly charred and crispy, with the maple flavor coming through beautifully without being too sweet. The jambalaya was also a strong contender. It was loaded with flavorful sausage bits, and the rice was cooked just right. After all that, we were happy to see they also offer some nice desserts to round out the meal. Overall, I had a great meal at Mimsy's. The brisket and unique house sausage are must-tries, and the Maple Sprouts are a delicious side that stands on its own. Hubba hubba.....this is one of my faves from "the list" and this time did not disappoint either. Please note, they only offer brisket on Saturday. I really enjoy how Mimsy's thinks outside the box when it comes to their dishes. Thoughtful and creative sandwiches and what I like to call all in one items like loaded mac n cheese, loaded spuds, and the wedge salad that are less expensive than buying the meat and sides but filling none the less. This time I ordered the loaded mac n cheese with the smoked turkey. I swear, they have the creamiest and most delicious mac. I am almost always underwhelmed by mac n cheese. These are exceptional. I also ordered the jerk chicken leg quarter and it was so clean and delicious. I would definitely order that again. Hubby order the Smoked turkey sandwich with avocado, bacon and aioli and it looked magnificent and yes, he did offer me a bite. I had enough of my own food to eat. Although we have frequented this place many times since they opened, we were rather disappointed during our recent visit. They have been listed in the Texas Monthly many times for their Food and we have always enjoyed it. However, recently we went in for lunch and were very perplexed by their decision to only offer brisket on Saturday, HUH!!?? Its a BBQ place in TEXAS! And the Caribbean chicken breast that was amazing has been discontinued and replaced with Jerk chicken which was dry & overcooked. Will think twice before going back! The service was great and the decor was pretty awesome. Met up with some family to eat here. They're fried fish was amazing as was their burger and fries. Five star on those but their brisket was super dry and not flavored at all. They're very sausage although is a fun concept is super greasy. Service was really good, but think a better system may save your staff many steps. The ribs were outstanding!! Brisket was perfectly seasoned and the fat helped with an overall dry slice. Ordering was easy and it was nice to order 3 meats without ordering too much meat. i.e. half sausage, 2-3 ribs, 1/3 pound brisket. Well, let me just say that all the food was good but it was much better last time I was here. The brisket was good but not as peppery and smoky as it was last time. The sausage was still delicious as was the rib. The sides were the potato salad which was good and the pinto beans which were ok. Moist brisket and the burnt ends are great for those fans. The beef ribs are also worth a look with great flavor, moisture, tenderness, and bark. This place is a top in the state bbq joint. We happened upon it and true to form they served until they ran out. We were lucky to grab the last of the sausage, but my favorite on the plate were the ribs. Great flavor, good pull off the bone. The little store is awesome, all family run and owned. Good bbq and friendly service, but small portions that are quite pricey. Austin downtown prices for tapas portions. With plenty of up charges. I ordered the brisket plate ($17) which consisted of two slices of brisket (1/4 lb) included two sides. I got sprouts and a half wedge salad. The salad was included, but the brussel sprouts were a $3 up charge. For $20 and no drink I was left hungry. To ensure I didn't leave starving, I bought a slice of cheesecake was $8. The food was good but not "great". For $28 I would expect more. My husband got an $11 pulled pork sandwich that was rather small. And included no sides. The meat, again, was good, but the portions to price just weren't great value. You have limited options in the area which make Mimsy's a valuable addition. However for a pre or post Crockett Forest hike it was a bit pricey and not filling enough portions. read more

Yes, with BBQ sometimes perfection is hit or miss, depending on time of day and the "meat flow," but Mimsy's at their best has top shelf brisket and ribs. WOW !! As you can tell by the picture, this is the real deal. Perfectly cooked on a toasted bun with homemade potato chips, you don't need anything else! Good 'ol Texas BBQ. Even the smell was smelling good. The family split... 1/2 lb brisket, 1/2lb turkey, half a rack of ribs, potato salad, and cole slaw. We went ahead and threw in the potato chip salad which has the slaw and potato salad with it too! BBQ sauce was tangy, peppery, a little bit sweet, and a little thick but not too thick. The rub was a little pepper heavy. The bark was awesome. Ribs were juicy through and through. Brisket was fall apart delightfulness. We would definitely come back if we were ever in this neck of the woods again. (Kids under 12 get a scoop of ice cream free!!) Came for a late Friday lunch and left by being carried out in a food coma! Wow that was a lot of great food. My travel companion and I tried out the Davy Jr and we should have brought two very hungry friends. It could (ok, should) have fed four! It basically had all the meats. The brisket was very good, but compared to the others, I think it was almost boring. Not that it wasn't cooked very well, tasted very good and looked awesome. It was just in tough company. The sausage was the only one that didn't shine. The thing must not have cooked very long because the nuggets of cheese in it weren't that gooey love of a long slow cook. The Turkey was fantastic. Is there a better word than fantastic? If so, use that word. It was so good, tasty and moist. My buddy liked the pulled pork better. We almost got into a fight until I tried it. They might be right but it's hard for w to choose. It too was moist, sweet, savory and tasty. Only sampled a little because I was afraid of losing a finger if I tried to take more. Finally the ribs were .... did I use all my love words already? It was just spanking good. Loved that taste. The cook and rub and flavor still make me drool. We sampled a couple of the BBQ sauces. Usually I keep away, but these were truly unique. The Sweet Chili BBQ sauce was brilliant on the Turkey. The regular BBQ sauce was one of the best 3 I've had. I don't usually use it but I would love to put this in almost any lesser meat. If you think I am done with the Davy Junior, not close. I saved the best for last. Truly the sides were to die for. If they sold out all the meat and only had these sides I would think it was worth the trip. The Mac & Cheese was smoked and had Poblano peppers in it. Wow that was genius and good. I'm not a Brussels sprout fan, but now I am!! They weee grilled and covered with a thinned out maple sauce/glaze. Oh wow!! Just wow! My favorite though was the coconut creamed corn. Checked off another spot on Texas Monthly's Top 50 list today with a stop Mimsy's in Crocket. Man, was it good! My family of 5 ordered and finished off the "Davy Jr" platter featuring 1/4 lb each of brisket, cheddar sausage, turkey, and pulled pork, plus 4 ribs and 3 sides for $55. (That's an incredible value for bbq of this caliber.) Brisket - moist and melted in my mouth Sausage - juicy with good cheese content Turkey - best turkey I've ever had, hands down Pulled pork - great blend of smoky and sweet flavors Ribs - right close to fall off the bone with great hints of sweet and smoke. Livy Kate was a fan! For sides we chose their maple Brussels sprouts, smoked mac n cheese, and bbq beans. Sprouts - My wife says 2nd best she's ever had & proceeded to eat most of them Mac n Cheese - My 2 older kids said repeatedly that Mimsy's mac n cheese was their new number 1 Beans - good flavor, but was clearly the least favorite item from our order. Mimsy's also had a great pickle & onion bar thing going. All in all, we say if you live Texas BBQ and are in the area of Crockett, TX, stop in and treat yoself. Meh. The brisket was ok. A little dry, especially since I requested the wet end. Bark was extremely tough and chewy. Sauce was ok. Not many good sides to choose from. Red beans were bland and Cole slaw was like long John silver. I usually like onions and a couple pickles along with a slice of white bread. Those are not offered. The building is nice. One of the happiest things in life to me is seeing good things happen to good people. We visited Mimsy's Craft Barbecue, LLC on Christmas Eve, and enjoyed fabulous BBQ based on the vision and expertise of our friends Wade and Kathy. We love the balance of flavors and texture of their BBQ, nothing is too overwhelming, which we prefer. My top favorite is the Ribs, tender and tasty. The sides do well in complementing the meat, freshening Coleslaw serves like a palate cleanser. Mac N Cheese is always a comfort food that makes us feel at home. We have to finish it off with a Turtle Cheesecake that has the perfect sweetness and toppings, I would say the best we had so far. The place is chill AF, it's laidback Texan style with a great community vibe to it. I wish Mimsy's is closer. Now I understand why some friends from Houston have been driving there to enjoy the food from Wade and Kathy. read more

Online map did not lead us directly to Mimsy's; we heard "You have reached your destination" - grassy country road in the nowhere. Thankfully, we came upon it about 500 yards down the road. Well worth it! Friendly staff and fabulous food. The meat was outstanding (juicy brisket, tasty chicken, spicy sausage, rocking ribs, tender turkey, pulled pork to die for). We live in Tulsa and often drive to Houston to visit family. Mimsy's is 20 minutes off the beaten path but well worth the pilgrimage. This really is bbq worth traveling for. The brisket is as soft and tender as you can imagine and defies what you think this cut of meat allows for (melt in your mouth good). The sausage was fantastically flavorful and expertly cooked. The chicken y'all, THE CHICKEN! It was the best chicken I've ever had cooked any way - hard to describe why this was but it was tangy, tender, and there wasn't a piece of it save the bones that couldn't be eaten if that makes sense. The only bbq that I've had that comes close is BurnCo in Tulsa but Mimsy's is certainly better in the chicken, brisket, and Mac & Cheese departments - also in just the overall creativity and diversity of sides and desserts (excellent cheesecakes). If you've ever been to BurnCo this is saying a lot as it is excellent in its own right (best ribs in the biz). All that to say, it is impressive that a small town bbq restaurant would put so much pride and care into each dish in order to produce this kind of gourmet quality, and all at very reasonable prices. read more
