Every time I visit my friend in Centerville, I have to stop by Country Cousins. The restaurant is just the cutest, very rustic. You do order at the counter. Tonight I got a to go order. The young man working the counter was polite, professional, and personable. The chopped beef sandwich was perfect along with the potato salad and baked beans which are sweet by the way. Not at all like it use to be. Very disappointed again. Hadn't been in over a year and its still not right. The sausage has changed and nothing like before. Our brisket was old, cold, and greasy. The potato salad hasn't tasted the same since they stopped adding eggs. The only thing that has remotely stayed the same and tasted good was the baked beans. The Frito Pie is SALTY!!! I asked that my meat be brisket and not that chopped stuff because I had chili at home. Whatever sauce they put in the beef when it's chopped is super salty! I'm a purist. All I need is a sliced brisket sandwich, sauce on the side, and a glass of iced tea. The brisket today was just about perfect. That wonderful smoke aroma wafts through the entire place. My mouth waters now from the memory. I would give a solid 5 if only the pickles/onions/jalapeños had been readily accessible in the dining room. Don't expect top quality bbq here. Brisket is very dry and the sides are very generic. Not much taste and everything is under seasoned. You probably would be much better off trying a fried item. Probably would not come back. read more

Stopped here while passing through town. Unfortunately, I wish I could recommend the food as the customer service was good and the place is family friendly. The brisket was DRY!! Not a little dry.. VERY dry. I had to use a knife to cut it.... Which you should never have to do with brisket. The Mac n Cheese was good. Beans were good. Sausage was good. Okra was slightly overcooked (pointed out by the staff) but it was actually really good. I can't speak for anything else but I do not recommend the brisket!! I took it home in a paper towel to feed to my dog because for $17, I want one of us to be full. I'm only giving it 2 stars because the sides were ok and the staff was friendly and the place was clean. They had 2 other families eating in the whole restaurant, they brought our food out but we waited another 5 minutes or so for our sides of okra. At least the okra was fresh because that brisket tasted like it was cooked in a warming drawer a week ago. read more

This place was a surprise and a treat. Wow! The staff is so friendly and we felt so welcome. The dining area and bathrooms were nice and clean kept. The food was amazing. Some of the next BBQ this Texan has ever had! We had the brisket plate and the green bean side was fresh and delish. Also had the pulled pork stuffed potato. It was huge! The pulled pork was really flavorful with big junks of pork! Followed all that with a delicious blackberry cobbler. The chef brought out pork ribs to show them off and they did not disappoint. Ate lunch here on a stopover on the way to East Texas. The service was outstanding. I appreciated the patience of the lady who took our order as we were slow taking in everything on the menu, and my kids are slow in general. The BBQ was fantastic. Two of us got the ribs and felt they were the meatiest ribs we've ever gotten at a restaurant. Turkey and chopped beef sandwiches also received rave reviews. Everyone's sides were also really good. Solid place to stop on a road trip. We tried multiple meats. Our favorites were the chicken (dark meat) and lean brisket. Good okra, sidewinder fries, potato salad, green beans and huge yummy dairy baked potato. Staff was friendly. We sat on the front porch so we could have our dog outside (again, road trip). They even brought our food out there. I'm pretty sure this is going to be our new Dallas to Houston stop. read more

Found this hole in the wall local place on yelp on our drive and so glad i did! it's now going to be on our list of places to eat-- the inside is a good size and has a good bbq ambiance. there were a few flies that were driving me nuts but it's the summer- they should try those table fly spinner fans i've seen elsewhere. anyways, my husband enjoyed his half chicken plate and was beyond thrilled to see they had fried okra so he had potato salad and the okra. they come with the pickles, onions, bread, jalepenos. i had the 2 meat plate with brisket and sausage- i had read that brisket sometimes is dry so i specifically requested moist fatty brisket- the amount of brisket was kind of meh but it tasted good- the sausage was tasty too- i had the cole slaw which wasn't too saucy which was nice and the pinto beans. it was a nice plate of good- wish it was a little bigger as it felt more like a healthier portion but there was still plenty. for the kids we did the sausage on a stick and some mac n cheese- the mac n cheese was plenty big even though we got the smallest side. good prices for bbq though! the staff were super friendly- my husband even mentioned how neat it was that they used a camping plate and cup for his meal. overall, this is a great local place in a small town to check out! read more

Walking in You order and pay first have a seat and food is brought to you luckily there was not a long wait for the food. Stopped here on our way to Buffalo and tried the catfish and shrimp Friday dinner for Lent. Average is the best way to describe the meal. It's not great, it's not bad, just OK. They use a corn meal batter but it's quite bland. Big chunks of catfish and shrimp which is nice but the batter is a little thick and the flavor meh. The tartar sauce is a mixture of salad dressing and relish. This is a no no for catfish aficionados everywhere. Never use salad dressing or relish. The sides (okra, Mac and cheese) were okay. Great BBQ with Monster portions. I had the Brisket and Links and they were both tender and juicy. I love a place that you do not have to rely on the sauce for flavor. I finished it off with blackberry cobbler which is one of my favorite desserts and not found in many places. It had a good balance of berries to breading and tasted very fresh. I stopped by for lunch earlier this week and it was very good. The place is clean and the staff very friendly. I had brisket which was very good. While I was there two State Troopers and two Deputy Sheriff's came in, always a good sign. This place is right off the interstate on the southeast corner - across the street for the more touristy Woody's. read more

Great BBQ and service! Brisket was juicy, both lean and fatty cuts. Their gumbo is flavored perfectly, but I would've liked more chicken and sausage in it. The beef was dry and the portions were small. I did get filled up. The ribs were ok, the pork was ok... the beef was bad. This was my 2nd time here and it was just as good. The flies and love bugs out side were a bit much though. There were dozens of bugs flying around which is nature and out of their control I know.
