The Pharm Restaurant is quite a treat for all truck drivers driving across the country through the small city of Buffalo TX. We stopped by on our way back from Shreveport expecting some standard diner food. Lucky for us, the food was way better than expected and much higher quality as well. My son and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, while my wife ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken due to the recommendation of our waitress. Unfortunately, they brought out three orders of Chicken Fried Steak. We didn't say anything and accepted the food as it was. The Chicken Fried Steak was humongous and packed with flavor. It was a tad on the salty side and the meat was a little tough. But for a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, it was still better than expected. All of the sides tasted great, including the Mac n cheese, baked potato, coleslaw, fries, and onion rings. Buffalo, Texas is where Rte 79 crosses I-45. That highway junction contains a lot of restaurants. Some may be fine. But there is a good case to be made for going into town. The Pharm is in downtown Buffalo. A lot of locals eat here. If you are a hunter, you are going to love this place. On the front wall is one of the most impressive collections of deer trophies I have ever seen. Lots of restaurants with hunters for owners or workers put deer heads up on the wall. Few have as an impressive a collection of top score trophies as you will see at the Pharm. The antler widths are absolutely positively enormous. I didn't think they made deer with antlers that big. * * * What goes for the antlers goes for the food. Pharm takes pride in its steaks. This seemed like a good reason to order a rib eye sandwich. That rib eye was about as wide at the biggest trophy on the wall. It extended half a foot out of my bun on one side and half a foot out of my bun on the other side. The bun was merely a handle for picking the sandwich up. The rib eye was thin but absolutely tender. It was not the $150 steak you would get at an oil magnate's private dining club. But for an everyday steak sandwich, it was just great. I was happy to have it. I was also happy to have the onion rings that went with it. * * * I would say the crowd was 100% local. I was the only highway passer-through. There were a lot of people taking a break from work for lunch. Many of these guys had the name of their company embroidered on their baseball cap. There were retirees in camouflage having lunch with friends. There was one young Christian couple having a long friendly conversation with a lady who was probably the manager. The manager was holding a hammer and waving her hammer over the place. My guess is that they were talking about some kind of repair or remodel job going on in the restaurant. But then who knows? Altogether, it seemed like a comfortable neighborhood hangout. * * * I suppose you "could" do well by eating at the Subway right at the highway junction. I recommend you do better by going into Buffalo itself. read more

Food, services and ambiance is small town America at its best. Our normal server is Donna. She is a real peach! Start with the Texas toothpicks (fried onion and jalapeño slivers. Try the fried seafood including colossal shrimp. After 5p they serve Mesquite grilled steaks cooked to order and your temperature. We stopped in Buffalo for work recently, and The Pharm never disappoints. Our favorite is the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, simply amazing. Sometimes I get the baked sweet potato and it comes with cinnamon butter, which is delicious too. Service is phenomenal every time, and the atmosphere is family friendly. Stopped by on our way out of town because previous reviews said the chicken fried chicken was great. I can confirm the chicken fried chicken was DELICIOUS! All our food was amazing from the yeast rolls to the chicken tenders and sides. I made the mistake of eating too much and didn't get a chance to enjoy a dessert. Our server was so kind and quick to serve. I tried the Pharm cocktail and even that was amazing! I would highly recommend this place and if I'm ever passing by I would come again. read more

Stopped in buffalo for church on the way to the coast and across the street was this restaurant. We had six people and we were seated quickly. Great place for families. There was activity and tvs but the atmosphere wasn't distracting. The waitstaff was quick on the refills. The food was good and it was easy to overeat. A surprising number of choices. They were very prompt with getting our food. We had such a nice time, we will come again. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in Buffalo when I'm craving steak or chicken fried steak. Great service. Friendly staff. Good food. Good desserts. Casual and down to earth atmosphere. Now here's the "tough love" part: The steak cuts aren't as good as they were in 2022,2023. Starting in late 2024 the steaks started having gristle. Same great flavor. Always a large portion. But way more tough sinew than before. I'd pay a few bucks more to not experience that. And I now avoid Friday nights because the current live music guy is awful. Like a wounded animal mumbling into the microphone. EVERY song sounds the same and it's NOT a good sound. Like a depressed Oliver Anthony who has no range. It gets old FAST. Ruins the meal, honestly. How about ONE song then take a 15 minute break? Doesn't matter who is singing, it's too loud and annoying for such a small venue. Or how about no live music? A jukebox with some variation would be better and maybe generate a little income. I'll still keep coming back, just not on "entertainment" night. What a great find! I was heading back to Dallas from a conference in Houston, and it was time to eat. I pulled off and opened up Yelp, and this place stood out - and it wasn't far from the highway. When I pulled up, I wasn't sure I had made the right decision. Not the most attractive building or area, but inside was completely different. Extremely friendly staff, nice decor, witty signs, the interior is just fine. I ordered the Pharm Burger, which came with bbq sauce and grilled onions. The burger was tender and seasoned well, and the twisty fries were fantastic. Great service and food, and I would absolutely make a return visit if I'm ever in the area again. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful home style meal at The Pham. I had a mesquite grilled filet, sweet potatoes with cinnamon butter and turnip greens. Amazing! Hubby had the hamburger steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. We had to roll ourselves out of there. We'll be back because I really want to try the catfish, which can be ordered cornmeal breaded only, which is great for me because I don't eat wheat flour. The waitresses and staff were working their butts off. After a day of hunting you can get pretty hungry. So we were told this place cooks pretty good steaks so we went. Once inside the place reminded me of an old western movie and the atmosphere was outstanding. The staff are super friendly and are always happy and smiling. From the looks of it the meat is cooked out in the back of the restaurant on a huge wood burning BBQ pit. I order my steak medium rare but it came out medium. Great meal! We stopped at The Pharm on a road trip, and it did not disappoint. The menu was hearty, country-style comfort food. Our steaks were delicious and perfectly done. Drive from Houston to Athens to go visit our new puppy, too young to come home yet. Got out my phone on the way back to feed the boys. Found The Pharm and gave hubby directions. We pulled into the parking lot and he gave me the "you are kidding me, right" look and I told him. Trust me! We were not disappointed. Service was outstanding, food was fresh and fast.
