a plate of mexican food

On my way to Houston we stopped at this Mexican restaurant in Buffalo. I didn't really have much expectations since we were just hungry in middle of nowhere. However the place was popping and the services were very friendly. They checked up on us a lot even when there's a full house. The lunch menu prices were great and dinner items were very fairly priced. They brought us chips right away and salsa for everyone; we didn't even have to ask. Coming from Dallas, this is a huge step up. The taste of the food is pretty authentic and I was definitely satisfied. There is no shortage on the portion size and every item we got came out just as expected.

We were looking for some hot food as we had traveled 6 hours from Lubbock when we found this place on Yelp. The address is wrong but when we looked around it was not too far off our route. We enjoyed the bean @ cheese nachos, salsa and the enchilada dinner. The teas was delish too. Service was good.

Armadillo Special! After eating this I had no room for dessert.

Greeted and seated promptly. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Chips and warm salsa were fresh and tasty. Food quantity was good, and reasonably priced.

Like someone else said, great restaurant on the way to and from Dallas if you want to eat something else than fast food, it's your typical tex-mex restaurant, if you order a regular burrito it will come out topped with melted-canned cheese "salsa"(though it's not specified on the menu if I'm not wrong). Took one star out just because the food is good but needs a bit of flavor, little extra salt and pepper. The Mango-Chamoy margarita was out of this world, I would drive all the way there just to have those margaritas every day. All the employees are nice and courteous.

Hot sauces

Stopped by for dinner on Saturday. Started off with the complimentary chips and salsa. We requested a hot sauce that had more heat. We were brought two different kinds that were great and spicy!! We also ordered the chunky guacamole, which was fresh and delicious. The margaritas were very good and refreshing. We ordered the beef fajitas and street tacos with rice and beans for our meal. The fajita meat was so over cooked and bland. Ended up taking the meat home to our dogs. The street taco meat was also so overcooked and bland. I used a lot of hot sauce and guacamole to make them taste better. The rice was ok and the beans were good.

Chips n salsa - some of the best I've had! Chicken fajitas - as good as I've had in Cozumel. Margaritas - mmmmmhhhhhhhh good and big! and cheap considering how much tequila was in them, wow! ;) Very good first experience, defiantly would recommend. Will be back if I'm coming thru here again. Huge menu, lots of choices!

Food is consistent and very tasty. The prices keep going up, so we don't get to go as often as we'd like.

Standard small town Mexican - very greasy, very meaty, very cheesy, not particularly flavorful.

What an unexpected gem of a place! If you are doing the drive between Houston and Dallas and want…read moresomething better than fast food--look no further. They did appear to have a drive-through, but we opted to have a sitdown meal. One of the perks of that was getting chips with warm salsa. The salsa was tasty and the chips were nice and crunchy. I wasn't famished, so I decided to split the mariachi taco plate, which was five mini tacos on corn tortillas, including the addition of queso fresco and avocado. We tried the beef fajita only, but they will let you try two different meats if you want. These tacos were so good, they rival all the amazing beef fajita tacos I've ever had. They came with a side of charro beans that were not your average charro beans. They had so much flavor and a little something extra I couldn't pinpoint. The mango Agua Fresca was really good and refreshing. They said it was made with fresh mango. Also, the corn tortillas are homemade and you could really tell the difference. The green and orange salsa are both tasty, but I didn't even feel like the tacos needed an accompaniment. I did try the Caldo de res, and that was good as well, but it would be hard not to get these tacos again. Service was good and polite and just the right amount of attentive. They do have both indoor and outdoor seating, with string lights outside. If you enjoy Mexican food, you will not be disappointed here.

Food and drinks are great, wonderful staff, always treat us well…read more I hate adding letters

Summary: My Favorite Restaurant!! My family and I started…read moreeating at this restaurant 15 years ago when we first moved to this area. At that time it was owned by the previous owner. It was always packed, sometimes with a 30-45 minute waiting line. Sometimes with 30 minute waiting to get our order served to us because the kitchen was so busy. So we tried to only eat there at weird hours or less busier days. After the ownership changed, there was a lot of "bad press" on social media that the food, service, and prices were terrible under the new ownership. I'm posting this review to state that I have found through personal experience that these negative "reports" were outrageously wrong and most likely put out there to damage the restaurant's reputation and clientele attendance. So, to set the record straight..... Don't believe everything you are told on social media..... especially in small owns. The food is GREAT, the service is top notch, and the menu has more options than the old menu. For example the fried avocado dish is SUPERB, and is a new addition to the menu. No waiting to be seated.... Typical wait time for freshly prepared entrees is 5-10 minutes and the chips and salsa are addicting! I grew up in Corpus Christi, and was raised on Mexican cuisine. So I am picky and finicky about quality and entrees. Ellios is my "GO TO" place to get extremely good food and service without having to drive to Athens, Tyler, or Dallas areas.

What a surprise to find such a romantic, exclusive and fusion Latin Cuisine experience in Tyler,…read moreTexas. Set on a hill, this beautiful property is definitely eye catching from the intersection. I call it fusion Latin cuisine because their shrimp ceviche was definitely not your typical one. Surprised with the sweet and not expected pineapple pieces, I couldn't help myself from enjoying and eating all of it. And the plate presentation of this appetizer is on point! Well done! Love the M letter drawing, the 'tartar' set up and dollop of guacamole to hold the chip deco! I believe the chips are home made. Service was wonderful! Attentive. Was recommended the blue coconut jalapeño mojito and it was also different. I would have personally liked a classic mojito better. Coconut and jalapeño didn't rock my boat, but the presentation was lovely. For the entrees we went off the card and chose from their specials menu. The Osso Buco pork shank was juicy, fall off the bone, and deliciously flavorful! Bold in flavors. The tasty saucy beans balanced the bland cilantro lime rice. It was a large portion, couldn't finish the quantity but it was well-loved. The surf and turf dish was beautifully set up. The filet mignon steak was on top of chimichurri fries, and the overcooked lobster found its way on fajita vegetables. The steak that was cut in was more of a medium and not medium rare but still tasty and finished. This place is apparently popular amongst prom goers. Quite a few prom groups with photographers were taking pictures in and around the building earlier that evening. Aside from the food, service and ambience. Villa Montez could still improve with the welcoming hostess, and by cleaning up the construction materials in the back and by the parking lot.
