Rice was disappointing, almost like plain white rice, very unusual for a Mexican restaurant. Chips had a bitter flavor, like they were fried in old grease. My meal came with guacamole and pico de gilo, both good and fresh. Salsa was freshly made. A companion ordered queso, it looked better than it tasted. Most disappointing was the small fajita steak: it was tough and grizzly, I'm a real carnivore but only ate a third of it. I'd go again but only for the enchiladas.

Charro beans were very nice. The green salsa was as it should be. Everything was outstanding. The server was attentive and helpful. When you walk in it's definitely going to give you that country style old school hunters cabin or granddaddy home feel. They mostly have that good ol Texas country music playing. It's a great feeling while you eat really. Only reason it gets 4 stars is because of the Margaritas. Only 2 flavor options and not the best tasting ones in town. Would I recommend this place? YES! of course I would. I recommend The Pharm any day of the week.

I found myself starving in Buffalo, TX and saw the typical DQ, McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc. Not good enough. Within this jumble is Ranchero Express. Did I leave Taco Bell to come here? Yes, obviously. My cousin orders the shrimp ranchero religiously. Swears by it. It looked really good too. I had the shrimp stuffed avocado. It was really nice. I was only a bit put off by the avocado being warm - didn't expect that - but the shrimp flavor was so good I got over it quick! The beans - soooo good! Thick, creamy, cheesy, perfect! It was so good Inforgot to take a picture of it.! Chicken tortilla soup is fully loaded, no short cuts! The nacho chips aren't my fave. Too cornmeal ish and thick. Not like fresh cooked ones. They could step their game up in this area. But with the bean dip being so good, the chips fade to background. They have a full bar and a big selection of margaritas. I have to say my cucumber margarita was ok. Not as tangy as I hoped it would be. But maybe the premier would hit the spot. The staff were very friendly. (Must admit, with all the anti-Cali immigrant hateration going around, I was very surprised to find it harder to communicate with the wait staff here than I ever have had in Cali, but I digress.) There are highly competent English speaking staff available to assist when needed. I had a great meal here, wonderful staff, tasty food, and all at really reasonable prices. So now I have another place to eat at when I'm visiting Mexia.

Our experience with the service started out great. We were greeted warmly and our order was taken promptly. After that, however, we waited, and waited, and waited. Several employees looked our way, but no one communicated what was causing the delay or gave us an estimated wait time. We were left wondering whether they were killing the chicken or butchering the cow! A simple, "We're sorry for the delay; your order should be ready in about ten minutes," would have made a tremendous difference. The lack of communication was frustrating and became a major turnoff. While the barbecue was good, I'm honestly unsure whether we would return, especially with Woody's right across the street, where we've had a great experience for years.
