The one star is basically bc this place charges upwards of 100% + for a pair of glasses you can get on Zenni optical. I came in a few weeks ago and no one was particularly friendly. I was rushed, and everytime I asked a question it was sort of brushed off and they kept trying to rush me thru the process, maybe they work on commission. So I was directed towards the cheapest wall (I asked for the cheapest options so that's on me, just graduated college) and they said my health insurance would cover the frames, but I had to pay $80 for the lenses themselves. The salesperson kept trying to upsell me. Thankfully I was with company, and my bf told me to just go on zenni optical. I shit you not, I went on zenni optical and bought a pair for glasses for 10$, the shipping and handling was $10, altogether $20. My glasses came today and look exactly like the $100+ pair that I saw at pearl vision, and I bought them for more than half the price. I bought a $400 pair of glasses here when I was younger, never again will I spend that much money. read more

Well I didn't read the prior reviews but seeing there a two star I'm not surprised at all. I use to say I normally wouldn't complain hence the bad review. I've tried several times to go into pestle st this location and service is just horrible. Just for an example I stopped in today maybe to buy a pair of glasses by was checking to see if I had an updated vision test on file. Bang women asked where my mask was. Than suggested maybe I had test at eye health because my latest prescription was from 18'? Regardless maybe I'd get an exam. Top it all off I'm holding together a pair of Oakley's with a staple and asked to see if they could repair. "Where did I buy them". Looked up in there computer only couple pair of ray bans on file. You think they could help! Terrible service. Drive to Quincy best place around from the owner to her son all the employees Donna which I've purchased from 2006 when I was next door at Ford can't compare. This is really weird to see such bad reviews because I love this Pearle location and I really like Dr. Eaves. I have been going there for 5 years or so. I see so many complaints about pushy sales, upselling, and cracking down on providing "extra services". You have to keep in mind that Pearle is a large corporate chain and subject to corporate policies. Sometimes employees have no control over these things. I feel this day in age if people don't fall all over us and go the extra mile we "punish" them with a bad review on Yelp. We are in the middle of a global pandemic. Everyone is overwhelmed, stressed and short-handed. These people are risking their health to provide you a service. We are a bunch of entitled babies!! I am in need of an eye exam...big time. Held off because of covid. I've had my last several at Pearl Vision. Last time, they had to correct the lenses right after I got them...I couldn't read the big signs at the mall across the street. Now, I thought, maybe, not knowing where else to go, I should give them another chance. Upon reading the reviews, I think not. These glasses, although 'adjusted' to change the lenses once, have never been right. They are progressive lenses and very expensive. I think customer service is great!! I was driving w/ my daughter and could not stand my glasses falling down my face and all scratched up a mile longer. i do happen to be a pearle customer, but in kingston. So I stopped in hanover not being able to stand another second of awful slipping glasses, did not even mention that I am a pearle customer elsewhere, and asked for help. A nice man took my glasses, tightened them, cleaned them REALLY well, maybe adjusted the screws? I dont know, I couldnt see. But the point is I wasnt spending a dime here and this man really went out to help me. For free. Thats good customer service. read more

Wow. Pearle Vision really is extreme with the up-sell. I thought I was buying a car. In this large wall of frames, only one single strip had frames under my $150 insurance frame limit. I call them "birth control glasses," because if you wear them, you don't need any other birth control. The up-sell was very high pressure - coatings, progressive, tints, etc. He said that no one used CR-39 lenses anymore, and that I should get polycarbonate for $90 more. I explained that CR-39 is an optically better material than Polycarbonate, and he said "That was only true back in the 1980s." That is false. PC suffers from chromatic aberration and has less optical clarity. This is partially due to the higher-index, which is a feature only important for stronger RX. Mine was weak at 1.5, and he was supposed to consider that in helping to choose a material, but didn't. He then said that CR-39 only had "old / bad optical coatings" and he "will have to call the lab to see if they can even make CR-39 lenses with coating anymore." (They do, of course). It seemed almost impossible to get out of there with what is in your best interest. The industry is at least is bad - probably worse - than the car sales industry. read more

The quality of the work at Pearl Vision in Hanover, Ma is very good. The customer service is a little lacking. Today we were picking up glasses for my daughter which were already ordered and ready. We were there for 15 min and of all the staff there (4) passing by us a few times while working with others or not, not one acknowledged our presence. So all in all i would recommend Pearl Vision. I had a great experience . I was seen right on time - and the process was quick and painless ! Dr. Eaves was very efficient and informative - and the tech who helped with the scan was great too! 1. I have never heard the phrases "Well, it depends..." or "It's up to you..." or "It's a give or take..." so many times from a doctor. You're a doctor, not a fortune teller. You have an MD so that you can tell me certain answers about my situation. 2. The doctor is rushed, late and brief. 3. I had an allergic reaction to eyedrops I was given. I called and was told that the doctor was out. Okay, is there a back-up doctor? No. Is there an emergency number for the doctor? No. What should I do?! They told me to call the emergency room. Made a appointment yesterday for a visual field test and the receptionist said they had a opening for today 3:45pm. I arrived filled out paperwork then proceeded to go over a pre exam check with one of the assistants. After pre exam was completed I went into see the doctor. He said we will do a full eye exam and I said great but I am here for a visual field test. He said we don't do visual field tests on new patients. I said it would have been helpful if I was told that before I raced from work to the appointment. I said I specifically asked for a visual field test as my doctor requested I get that test. He said we aren't doing it and stated it's probably best if you go elsewhere and he started wrapping up my paperwork. I said are you serious? He said we are all done ! I walked out of the office and left with no exam as this guy was just RUDE ! I don't know if he is a worker or a owner as it was my first time but he was a total Idiot and should NOT be working with patients !! He has NO people skills and obviously doesn't know how to resolve issues that his office created !! STAY AWAY !! He is Just plain RUDE !! read more

I was a 20 year custom of this Pearl Vision location. I purchased new lenses in 2018 (half-rim). Both were defective- fractures in the lens at the framed (top) portion of the lense. One was replaced last fall. I was unable to get the other one taken care of in a timely manner due to a life-threatening illness in my family. They were unwilling to help fix the issue (not a replacement, at cost, etc.), even with a full explanation of the circumstances. Won't return, and I suggest you avoid. read more

I have never had a worst experience with a professional company. While Dr. Ralph Eaves is extremely kind & accommodating, his staff is outrageously unpleasant & unprofessional. After receiving 2 different voicemails to come pick up 2 boxes of contacts I ordered &paid $200 for at my last visit, I was finally available to make the trip to go get them. I called ahead & left a voicemail with them to just check in & see if they had them ready for me to get on the certain date I was planning to go. I first received a call back from an employee who told me that there were no contacts there under my name, he didn't know what I was talking about but he would have his manager call me. I then went through my emails / voicemails & compiled my receipts for them (since I paid $200, I had receipt of my purchase) - I called back & gave them this information & also said I was happy to wait if there was a mix up & they needed to order additional pairs for me - were all people & make mistakes so I was not angry with them! However, I was then called back about an hour or two later from their manager Karen where things took a turn for the worst. Karen called to let me know again that they did not have contacts for me & then went on to accuse me of LYING & saying that either my "family member" or I had to have come to pick them up because they didn't have them. I asked if they had a signature of proof that I picked them up, which of course they did not. She then went on to change her story & say that I must have taken them when I left my appointment & that no order was placed... this was false & I had proof since I had received multiple phone calls from them letting me know my 2 boxes were available for pick up. Instead of just letting me know there was a mix up & they couldn't find the boxes , they fully blamed me by telling me I was lying & making up different excuses for why I did not have them. Never once, did they consider that maybe there was a mix up on their end & continued to blame the customer instead. After 4 different rude phone calls with them, I have decided that this is a loss & I am walking away from 2 boxes of contacts & losing $200 that was paid to them with nothing in return. Instead of being professional & owning up to a mistake they fully blamed me & raised their voices & smoke in an extremely aggressive tone to me on the phone. I paid them already & was simply calling to get my order - I am shocked that this turned out this way. I have come here my whole life & the only reason I am giving 1 star is because Dr Ralph was not involved in this mix up & shouldn't be taking the blame for his horrible staff. I will not be returning to this establishment but am extremely frustrated by how a simple situation turned out. read more

I purchased eye glasses on Aug 3, 2017 and had to bring my glasses back twice due to the left lens having a crack in them. I went to another eye glass store and asked how could it happen again and they said " It's a stress crack". It happens when the person cuts the lens too small and doesn't know how to do it. I would not recommend wasting your money at this store. The Sales person Bob doesn't even look or sound like he is happy to help you. It's like your doing him the service of giving him a sale. I have been a customer of the Hanover Pearle Vision for over 25 years, going for an annual exam, annual contact lens order, and glasses. My husband and adult children now go there as well. The doctor has always been great, sales people just "eh.". This morning, I went in to get a pair of my glasses tightened, something I've done many times over the years. These glasses were not purchased at Pearle, but that's never been an issue. Today, I was asked if they were purchased at Pearle, and when I said no, I was told they could not help me. I explained that I've been a customer for years, and have never been asked that before, but was told they are "cracking down," and could not touch my non-pearle vision glasses. So, I left, but I'm extremely disappointed in such lousy (and short sighted) customer service. Rather than possibly creating a new customer by offering this service, or in my case keeping an existing customer happy, Pearle Vision has lost a customer (actually four customers). There are many choices on where to get your eye care and glasses/contacts, and it's a pity Pearle Vision doesn't choose to differentiate themselves through their service. No one at all in the entire store either, so not like they were busy. Bad choice, Pearle Vision. read more

I never leave reviews because I do not have much free time on the computer. I made an exception to this one so others DO NOT make the same mistake. This place does not deserve 1 star of "Eek! Methinks not" The staff at this location (Hanover, across from the mall) is incompetent. They are rude and unhelpful. The brand new colored frames I purchased have scratches in them and the silver metal under the paint can be easily seen. They shaved the side of the lens to get it to fit into the frame and you can see the rough abrasions. I couldn't believe they thought this product was acceptable to deliver to a paying customer. The price for frames and add-on's are much higher than other shops (Sears or Walmart optical, Lenscrafters and Eye Health services) but because my insurance was accepted at no cost to me, I went to them. I will pay out of pocket each year for a reputable shop and submit the bill for reimbursement later. Drive 5 towns over or 20 miles away if you have to, but do not go to the Pearl Vision in Hanover, MA! read more

I had an exam which I felt was rushed. I then ordered contact lenses. They said they would be there in a few days, they would call me. I called a week later and they said they were in. I went in and they only had 1 box of lenses not 2. I asked for a rush on the new box because the contacts I were using were getting old. He said he would. I asked if he could call me when they came in. He said he would (about 2-4 days). It is now 7 days and I had to call them. They said they had them. I'll see. read more
