I was at the Weymouth location last night. After booking my appointment 3 months out, my appointment was at 3:40. They announced there would be a 1/2 wait. At 4:30 I was finally called. The prep person apologized, but what good was that? After my initial exam, I waited another 20 minutes for the optometrist. I was there to get contact lenses. I was told that I would have to make another appointment for that? Never mind. The office was pleasant, but I'm not gonna go through this again, another appointment? to be fitted for contacts? Very poorly run office. I certainly wouldn't recommend it. I will go to Family Vision instead. I don't wait for over an hour and have to come back for my fitting. They do it all at once. read more

Nielsen Eye Center was booking over three months out but I booked anyway. I waited and when I went to my appointment, I was told that it was cancelled. I could wait for another one but nobody could say when. I had to get back to work. The receptionist gave me an appointment at an office half an hour away, over a month out. The doctor came in and rushed through a few questions. As she walking out the door, I asked her if my prescription for close up had changed. She looked at me quizzically. "You wear bifocals? Uh-oh, wait a minute." She had no idea. Then she left quickly. As my eyes were dilated and it was a very sunny day, I was blind on the road. I went about half a mile and gave up, turned the car around and went back to the office to wait until my eyes went back to normal. I asked at the desk why they don't have those temporary sunglasses that real optometrists have. They did have them, but they just weren't offering them to patients. When I got home I looked at my prescription; it is useless, obviously wrong, printed incorrectly. Every single interaction I had was sloppily mishandled, a chain of incompetence culminating in a giant waste of time, money and energy. Nielsen Eye Center has no patient survey to fill out after your visit, no follow-up, no method for feedback at all. I can't contact my "doctor". Patients are the very last priority for this arrogant, money-grubbing machine. The service is good. The reason I gave a rating of 3 is because of their deceptive billing. I was told my procedure would be approximately 6k and that insurance should cover the rest. (I failed to read the intimate details of the paper and took the salesman pitch at face value) Then the additional bills started to show up. I had already paid over 6k and was lead to believe that would cover everything. Wrong. Make sure you get in writing all the costs, not just estimates or "don't worry it should be covered by your insurance". In the end it is my own darn fault for trusting a smiling face. I am not skilled at dancing around all the hidden costs. How much will you pay the doctor for the procedure? I started seeing Dr. Nielsen for an ongoing eye issue, and he seemed like he cared and wanted to do whatever he could to help fix the issue. He prescribed me some eye drops and sent me for allergy testing, and told me he'd see me at a follow up appointment. When I left that day, the front desk scheduled my allergy appointment, but not the follow up. When I called later to see if I could schedule the follow up, they said I could do it on the same day as the follow up to my allergy test. Fast forward to my allergy follow up - I'm now seeing Dr. Moreira. I'm not sure if Dr. Nielsen doesn't deal with allergies, or if there was another reason (it wouldn't be the first time an eye doc gave up on me), but I was a bit confused about why I suddenly had a new doctor and no one offered a clear explanation. Dr. Moreira was unprepared and unprofessional. She gave me my allergy test results, and then asked me why I thought I'd needed the test if I wasn't having allergy symptoms. The thing is, I didn't request the test. Dr. Nielsen had ordered an allergy test because I assume he thought allergies could have been causing my issues. It's clear Dr. Moreira didn't bother to look at my file before seeing me, which was incredibly frustrating as she had no idea what I was even there for. The most upsetting part came at the end of the appointment, when she said she was going to prescribe me eye drops to start taking, as she thought they would help. Remember how I said earlier Dr. Nielsen had given me eye drops? This was supposed to be the follow up for that appointment. And guess what Dr. Moreira was prescribing me? The same eye drops she was supposed to be following up with me about. I wanted to scream. Anyway, I think she told me to continue taking them. So much for my follow up appointment about these drops. When I came back again to see Dr. Moreira, I mentioned something a previous doctor had told me (which! was! in! my! notes!) and somehow that was her lightbulb moment that I was just wearing the wrong glasses prescription (and my 6 other doctors had missed this very basic detail?) and gave me an updated one. I used it to get new glasses and the only thing that did was give me a headache for weeks. Dr. Nielsen's practice has a great reputation but after this experience, I won't be coming back. read more

I came in for a 2 hour free consultation. They said I was most likely eligible but would need to contact my eye dr. to look over my changes over the years. They never followed up with me after my lengthy appointment and I never heard from them again. If you want someone to spend anywhere from $5k-8k on something, I think your staff should be able to touch base with someone after they used sick time to do the appointment. During the appointment, they mentioned I would have to sign up today for that month's deal since the month was ending. It wasn't possible for me to do so since they needed to check with my eye doctor first. They also made themselves sound like the best in the business and that celebrities go there. Um, ok. I had an appointment today at this clinic at their Longwater Drive, Norwell location, when I arrived the welcome was not that appealing especially when you're going to a place for the first time, no smile, hello with not that welcoming feeling! The technician took me inside after few minutes and examined me, later on she asked me if I wanted a prescription for my eyes and I said sure, she said the charge will be $35.00, first time I heard this, but when I left after my yearly diabetic test I was rushing out so they did not give me my prescription with my check out papers. Sometimes you feel did they even check you properly or they just rushed because they want high turnover and is it all about money? Do they even care, I do not like to go to an institution who are not going to take care of you or give you the right advise and take the time to diagnose you thoroughly with care. read more

I have eyemed. I had recently moved to Quincy and needed a local eye doctor for glasses and contacts. Their office is in Crown Colony, so quite convenient for me. Easy parking. I came in and they fitted me for contacts and glasses. Very professional and friendly atmosphere. I could come in as often as I liked for contacts help. They were very sympathetic and patient with my contact woes. I gave up on contacts. Turn the page 2 years later. I call them up to ask them about LASIK. I had to either do that or get new glasses (my lenses had seen too much wear and tear). They chatted away with me on the phone and suggested that I come in for a free seminar. I came in, along with a few dozen others to watch a LASIK operation. The woman was in her late 50's, which surprised me. I thought most people at that age don't get it. We were able to ask her a number of questions and then we watched her get operated on. The Doctor was wired for sound and video and we watched it live on a Plasma tv. Afterwards, she came out and showed us how her vision had already improved! Again, we were able to ask her, the Dr. and the financial guru (sales guy) about the procedure. We also got to watch videos on it. They had drinks and light food available such as sandwiches. Several times, the risks and common complications were discussed. I felt quite confident after the seminar and working with the staff, that I should take the next step. I scheduled a free consultation and met the Dr. and more staff. I was given a clean bill of health and told that I was an excellent candidate for LASIK. I elected to go through with this. They gave me 0% financing plan for a year. It cost me about $5000 after the Eyemed discount. I suggest you use your medical pretax expense account if you can plan it. I just wanted the surgery now, as I am moving to Kansas City soon. I trusted the Dr. and the staff. Eye surgery is EYE Surgery right??? So, the day of the operation, they give me some valium, numbing drops, and roll up my eye lids into a clamp. That didn't feel so good. They gave me a football to hold (I was wearing my Brady jersey) and the machine connected to the clamps and they began the painless operation. Very quick! Now, my vision was blurred some. I moved to the 2nd machine, and more laser. All done! No pain or discomfort. Went home. Several hours later, I was in a lot of discomfort. Lots of eye drops to take. I think I took 4 medicines at one time 4 times a day. I couldn't wipe my eye. Pretty nasty and crusty :( Couldn't shower for a bit either. I was sun sensitive, so wore shades. I drove my self to the Dr. less than 24 hrs later. 20/15 vision!!!! For the first month or 2 afterwards, I had to avoid drying experiences and use drops as I had dry eye. It has 95% gone away. So has 95% of my symptoms. I'm almost halo, dry eye, and sensitive to sun free. They say it can take up to 2 yrs to completely heal. The Dr and his staff is amazing and I'd highly recommend them and the surgery to anyone that is a good candidate. Of note, they give you gifts! They sent me flowers, balloons, and gave me glasses (to drink from). You know, it's "elective surgery," so it's a business for them. read more

I came here for a routine eye exam. The staff here is pleasant and friendly with a clean and fresh environment. Very immaculate. I love it when an eye exam does not require the air puff machine. I totally avoid places that uses that because I am a blinkamaniac. One of the oddities is that the eye drops they used for the glaucoma test left me blurred for more than 12+ hours. I never had that happened to me before. Must be very potent! read more

I went to Neilsen eye center in January for LASIK. Overall, the procedure went fine and I have no complaints about the doctors I have seen. But I have been to several follow up appointments to check the progress of my eyes and have never waited less than 45 minutes past my appointment time before being called in for what ends up being a 5 minute appointment. One time a member of the staff came out to let the patients in the waiting room know they were running over an hour behind and gave them the option to reschedule. read more

I had LASIK eye surgery less than 24hrs ago and am feeling great! I really didn't know why to expect (everyone tells you it's a breeze but I'm such a baby) and the team over there were great. I would highly recommend Dr. Nielsen to anyone considering LASIK, I couldn't stand being a prisoner to glasses and contacts as I am very active. I'm really looking forward to being at the beach this summer and not worrying about contacts drying out! The whole surgery took probably about 10 minutes and they have a 'relaxation' room pre surgery for you and your pal Xanax to chill in. So you go in pretty relaxed and they talk to you the whole time telling you what to expect. Like I said I am such a baby and was very nervous and his staff were patient and kind. Post surgery, you go home again with your pal Xanax and nap (for me I was more like dead to the world lol something like 15hrs but who's counting) and when you wake up you'll instinctively go to put on glasses but don't need them! I can't thank them enough for being so great. All I can say to those considering is GO, don't wait another day. Dr. Nielsen and team won't disappoint! read more

They will do surgery on anyone for the money. I was told I had cataracts so I had the surgery in May, I haven't been able to see out of my eye since. I had a second opinion and was told that I didn't need the surgery I had at least ten years before I had to worry about it. I went back several times and was told by Dr. Nielsen that it was because I needed the other eye done. As it turns out I have had an infection in my eye since he did the surgery, he just keeps giving me prescriptions. My advice is do not let him do surgery until you get a second opinion. Went to Optics Dept at Nielsen Eye Center in Norwood today and was very impressed with the knowledge and interest shown by Kimberly in addressing my eye glass issues. Kimberly was very helpful in correcting minor problems with my 2 pair of glasses and I recommend going to meet with her to have your eye glasses adjusted or corrected. She has great plans to improve the frame selection to offer a greater variety to all ages of eye glass wearers. read more

Dr. Nielsen is one of the BEST Optometrists I've ever been to. Dr. Nielsen is the one who discovered, through my eyes, that I had Multiple Sclerosis when NO other doctor could! Since then he is the only one I will see and he is amazing and really cares about his patients. I had Lasik surgery that he performed about 5 years ago and it was awesome! I've had amazing vision since and he is the only one I would've trusted to perform that type of surgery. Before getting too far into my experience, I must note that I am writing this review free of glasses/contacts and have not been able to do so prior to Lasik for the past 20 years! Needless to say, I could not be happier with the results of my procedure! Upon my first call to Nielsen Eye Center inquiring about Lasik, I knew that this was the perfect place for my procedure. Every receptionist with whom I spoke was knowledgable, polite and welcoming. They would also direct any questions that they were unable to answer to a medical professional who could further assist, which was very relieving. During my consultation in Norwood, every person that I saw was professional and relatable, which helped kept me at ease. It was a bonus being able to speak with others who had undergone the Lasik procedure at the Nielsen Eye Center, again making the experience relatable and not one to be overly stressed about. Dr. Moreira was also wonderful to work with. She put me right at ease, answered all of my questions, and seemed as excited as I did about the procedure. Her demeanor was warm and welcoming and you can tell that she genuinely care about her patients and their progress. It was a breath of fresh air and if I had to do it all again, I would work with Dr. Moreira and her staff every time! I also have to give a shout-out to Stella and Sam at the Quincy office! Stella was warm and friendly, she helped keep my nerves, as well as my husband's, at ease on the day of surgery and I cannot thank her enough for this! Sam also answered some questions post-procedure and put me right back at ease. If you have plenty of time on your hands by all means go there, I can't say much about how good or bad they are, but the wait was awful, my appointment was for 10AM and I was still sitting there at NOON waiting to see the doctor, they gave no explanation as to why it was taking so long, so I left after saying a few words about wasting my time and how my time is just important as a doctors time, I have no idea why a doctors time is considered to be more important then mine, which seems to happen all of the time. read more

I would have given them a better review until I encountered their new automatic answering system. I had no problems with the office staff and the techs. They were helpful and pleasant. I went there because I had a detached retina and ended up seeing Dr. Weiter and having surgery. The only thing I was really prepared for was the cataract that develops because of the gas they use in the eye. When I went back for my last visit I had noticed that my vision was warped. I asked about this and weather it would get better and was told for a second time "It can improve for up to a year". My vision is critical for me, as it is for most people. While Dr. Weiter may be a very skilled surgeon, he has NO bedside manner or empathy. read more

Wham, bam, thank you! The staff in the Weymouth office are welcoming, however, I was informed I would have a copay for any prescription for eyeglasses upon signing in, which I found odd. I was there for a comprehensive exam, not a prescription, unless my vision deemed it necessar.The vast majority of the examination was performed by a technician. Dr. Neilson's interaction was pleasant, however, he literally spent less than 5 minutes in the room, looked at the data from the technician, did not perform any exam, then advised I had dry eyes, should use eye drops, and had cataracts requiring surgery. There was no further opportunity for discussion regarding severity, urgency, or treatment options. He just escorted me to his 'patient advocate', who had a sales pitch advisI got most of the cost of the procedures would not be covered by insuranc, but there were financing options if needed! Did I want to book an appointment? I left with their information packet and was literally dumbfounded by my experience. My impression was to hurry and seek a second opinion from another ophthalmology specialist pronto! read more

My appointment was at 3. I showed up at 2:50 and waited untill 3:25. This young lady took me into the room and did the routine check up and asked basic questions then she brought me into another room and told me to wait for the doctor. I waited in that room for around 20 minutes. I almost walked out. then the doctor came in. I saw Dr. Helen Moreira and guess what??? She was CHEWING GUM for the whole time. I was shocked how unprofessional she was. I am not sure if it is normal for a doctor to chew gum while seeing you but to me it was beyond rude. She saw me for like 3 mins and just left the room. I don't know why all of the other 10 reviews that gave this place 5 stars got filtered, but this is an amazing place. The staff is warm, inviting, and very professional. When I first thought about getting the LASIK procedure done, I contacted a place in downtown Boston. After receiving an info packet from *the place* and seeing how they spelled BOTH my first and last name incorrectly, I canceled my consultation. When I called the Nielsen Eye Center, Jim was very kind and assuring. He made sure that my consultation date was confirmed, set me up with my patient advocate, and even told me that Dr. Nielsen will even meet with me. The office is very designed to make everyone feel comfortable and relaxed. My LASIK went smoothly and I can see perfectly now. If you need anymore reassurance, you can send me a message. Dr Nielsen is my Jesus. I was blind but now I see. Staff was very friendly. State of the art machines did a better job at telling me what my prescription was better than I could. Lasik was painless and very affordable. I can't believe how much my life has changed since having this procedure. No more looking for my eyes when I wake up. About a year ago, I came in for a routine eye exam for a contact lens RX and paid up front for the cost prior to entering the exam room. I have had a dry eye problem for a long time and indicated that on the questionnaire. The doctor took it upon himself to address the dry eye problem (even initiated a dry eye test that I did not ask for). I was told to come back in a few weeks for a follow-up and at that time, I would receive my contact lens RX. Less than a week later, I received a bill for over $200. I had no idea I was being charged for a service I did not request. I brought this up to the young lady at the front desk prior to entering the exam room on my second visit. She agreed that the doctor should not have changed the nature of the appointment without making it clear to me. She told me she would look into it to get it taken care of. I still continued with the follow up visit because I still needed my new RX. I sat in the exam room for less than 5 minutes where the doctor told me to continue to use eyedrops (which I already knew and have been doing for years now) and then gave me my contact lens RX. A year later, I'm still receiving notices for the "overdue balance." I contacted the billing department and explained my situation. The best they could do for me is give me a small reduction on the bill amount. The money isn't the issue. It's the principal that I'm being charged for a service that I did not request. Definitely not coming back and definitely not recommending to anyone. read more

I could not be any happier. I woke up this morning and can SEE - no contacts and no glasses!! I never thought it was possible. The staff has been amazing throughout the entire process. My vision was horrible (my glasses were a -12). Multiple doctors told Me i was not a candidate for LASIK - just 6 months ago RI Eye Institute told me that my only hope was PRK, I would not get 20/20, and I would still need glasses. Luckily my friend referred me to Nielson Eye Center!! Dr. Nielsen recommended a procedure called ICL which no other doctor has ever mentioned. The procedure took about 30mins and I woke up this morning able to read the clock! I am so thankful I took my friends advice!! The experience was great from beginning to end. Just got my lasik done with Dr. Moreira on 8/18/16; it was a wonderful, fast and painless procedure. Before lasik: I got my consultation and they ran some tests on my eyes to see if I would be a good candidate for lasik. The entire consultation was around 30 minutes. It was very attentive, and I was never kept waiting. After Dr. Moreira had told me I was a good fit, Kathy helped me booked my appointment, and follow up. She sent me eye drops to pick up at my local pharmacy the day before surgery, and additional drops to purchase. She went over the price, and told me the payment would be received on the day of the procedure. She was extremely helpful! Day of lasik: Before getting lasik they reexamined my eyes one last time. Afterwards, Kathy sat down with me gave me a Xanax, and two Advil. She went over my post op instructions and handed me a bag of goodies! Kathy then guided me into the relaxation room where I waited to begin. A doctor came into the room and gave me some numbing drops and had me lay on the bed. The procedure was very quick and I was under the laser for less than 10 minutes. I felt some pressure but nothing was painful. After it was done Dr. Moreira helped me get up, she looked at my eyes, gave me sunglasses, and I was on my way! I did feel some burning sensation afterwards but once I got home it went away. I went home took the Xanax they prescribed to me and went straight to bed. I woke up with better vision without glasses or contacts! I took the eye drops as told and the artificial tears when my eyes are a little dry. Follow up appointment: The day after I woke up with great vision and drove myself to see Dr. Moreira. They reexamined my eyes again and told me I looked good. I have another appointment in two weeks! Overall, my experience was great. I definitely recommend getting lasik here. Everyone is great and makes you feel very comfortable. They took my nerves away! It is extremely worth it. Thank you Dr. Moreira and Kathy for such a great experience! read more

Two weeks ago I had Lasik done with Doctor Moreira. The staff at Nielsen made the entire process quick and painless! I felt very educated about everything that I should expect after having the consult and the procedure itself went great! I would recommend anyone considering lasik to go to NEC at least for the consult. The recovery has not been bad at all and I was even able to go to work the day after my surgery! I am so happy when I wake up in the morning and don't have to deal with my contacts/glasses. It really is like seeing the world from a new lense with good vision 24/7! I came here as referred by my parents. However, my parents used to see Dr. Nielsen and when I went I saw someone else. I assumed this was fine and that anyone in the same office as a great doctor would be great. The Dr. I saw was not friendly. I felt rushed and he was even rude. Upon my telling him that my eyes got dry easily and it was hard being near A/C's or fans or when A/C's are on in cars, he proceeded to tell me not to sit right in front of fans[no, he did not seem like he was joking]. I also got a prescription for my eyes after what seemed like maybe 5minutes with me. This Dr. made it seem like my eyes weren't bad and I was being dramatic. I left there more insecure than I came in and even a little guilty for coming in. That is not how you treat a patient and I will not be back there. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. I used to have 20/200 vision. After LASIK I now have 20/20 vision. I still can't believe it. After 9 months I'm still amazed that I don't need glasses anymore! Let me preface this with this review is related to laser vision correction. I had another LASIK correction consultation with another group over in Crown Colony as well and there I felt initially good about the consult. The doctor said that due to scarring that they could do PRK only. I have some scarring that has been the reason that contacts no longer feel comfortable. After reading about PRK and how long the healing time can be I wanted to get a second opinion to be absolutely sure this was the correct option for me. I called Dr Nielsen's office after speaking with both a local Doctor and a friend who happened to have the surgery with him. I got an appointment quickly and went in on a Monday morning. The office is impressive to say the very least. They have invested a lot of money into the practice. You do not get the feeling that you are at a normal doctors office by any means. Everyone is very nice and friendly. The receptionists were smiling and set out coffee for everyone waiting. I had a number of tests done. 6 different impressive machienes, full dialation, another examination after to make sure that the numbers from the machienes were correct and then an exam with Dr. Nielsen. There were many more tests performed here than the previous doctor. I watched two video's explaining the procedures and the risks associated. Dr. Nielsen said that he felt I was a good candidate for the bladeless lasik without hesistation. As the doctor I spoke with put it... "You want to be sure the person who does surg on your eyes does it all the time rather than someone who does it here and there" I have my surg. scheduled for January and will update. So far I have the most confidence in this office. Very glad I went for this second opinion. (and the consults on these are usually free as well) read more

Had my surgery a month ago and the jury is still out. I'm told I have 20/20 vision but some days everything is blurry - almost like I have a film over my eyes. Yes in the morning I can see my alarm clock and can read the school closing on the TV. Today I was able to walk down the beach and watch the ocean without trying to see while keeping my glasses clean! I go back in a couple weeks for a check up so I'm hoping things have improved by then.. My only other suggestion would be to have the technicians slow down and be more customer friendly/sensitive. read more

I was a candidate for "mono" vision LASIK - fixing one eye for distance and the other for reading. It didn't agree with me and I came to all the follow ups and we decided to enhance both the reading eye as well 6 months after initial surgery and results have been great. Dr. Moreira has very good bedside manner. read more

the worst of the worst eye center i used to visit in my life. dr steven nielsen is a racist unfriendly doctor ever. I don't need visit a doctor to hear "yeah", "yup", "nope", "good". He doesn't want to listen what the patient's concern and question, his face show no emotion like a robot. He just want to show up like he does "work". It's ridiculous that he ask me look at the camera and smile and use it as a very happy and satisfied patient. I visited this eye center, he told me that I have a young cataract which need to be surgery. And then, I have the other consultant tell me about the surgery, I asked for the cost of surgery, she told me " we don't know". I asked the front desk for the cost of the visit and cost of cataract surgery, they told me the same "we don't know and we gonna send you bill later". Then, they called me to tell me about time, location and money need to bring to pay for cataract surgery, "so this amount $$$ your insurance will pay and this amount $$$ you need to pay right before you have surgery." I went to the surgery location, they collected the amount $$$ they told me if not I won't have the surgery. Nielsen showed up like he used to be " a robot face", he did the surgery and ask me sat next to him look at a camera, I don't know what's going on b/c my eye just had a surgery. the camera's " FLASH" and this is the "other satisfied patient", really??? He doesn't care what's my eye after surgery and my feelings and this is the "other satisfied patient" ? Before the surgery, I don't need glasses to see or read, after cataract surgery I have to have glasses with me at all time to see. The useless work ever. Months later, Nielsen Eye Center sent me bill ask to pay for the cataract surgery, they claim that the my insurance paid them but not enough what they want to charge so they ask me to pay. How ridiculous that they told me before the surgery this $$$ your insurance pay, you don't have to worry and you need to pay this amount $$$ right before the surgery and they asked me to pay and collected that amount right before surgery, and now send me a bill ask me pay more??? IF YOU NEVER VISIT THIS EYE CENTER, YOU SHOULD NOT VISIT ONCE IN YOUR LIFE. IF YOU VISITED, NEVER COME BACK. read more

1 hr wait for a 1.5 minute office visit. Literally! Dr. Nelson saw me for 1 min and said everything looks good, see you next year. I didn't even have time to ask question and he is gone. Unless you are here for out of pocket procedure like LASIK, you are nobody! read more
