This is the actual prescription I was given at Nielsen.

I booked an appointment at Nielsen Eye Center in Quincy because it was close and because you recommended them at my physical. They were booking over three months out but I booked anyway. I waited and when I went to my appointment, I was told that it was cancelled. I could wait for another one but nobody could say when. I had to get back to work. The receptionist gave me an appointment at an office half an hour away, over a month out. I drove right past the Quincy office to get to my second appointment in Norwood. I was examined by a nameless woman (she never introduced herself) who told me she was not an optometrist (I've always had a doctor do this. I didn't know it was legal for people with no medical training to do this; I found out it's a bad idea). She took my glasses away and then brought them back a few minutes later. The doctor came in and rushed through a few questions. As she walking out the door, I asked her if my prescription for close up had changed. She looked at me quizzically. "You wear bifocals? Uh-oh, wait a minute." She had no idea. Then she left quickly. The mystery woman reappeared and took my glasses again. She returned with a sheet of paper with my "prescription". As my eyes were dilated and it was a very sunny day, I was blind on the road. I went about half a mile and gave up, turned the car around and went back to the office to wait until my eyes went back to normal. I asked at the desk why they don't have those temporary sunglasses that real optometrists have. They did have them, but they just weren't offering them to patients. When I got home I looked at my prescription; it is useless, obviously wrong, printed incorrectly. Every single interaction I had was sloppily mishandled, a chain of incompetence culminating in a giant waste of time, money and energy. Of course, Nielsen Eye Center has no patient survey to fill out after your visit, no follow-up, no method for feedback at all. I can't contact my "doctor". Patients are the very last priority for this arrogant, money-grubbing machine. It's been almost six months since I started dealing with this clown show, and I still have no prescription, my eyes have only worsened. Now I will waste more time with my insurance company, but I won't go back there. They don't know what they're doing, they're doing it wrong, and they don't care. Most telling, they've never attempted to contact me after all this.

And they had a step and repeat in the office so naturally we took a before and after... this was the after!!

Waited months to get in for a worrisome mole (not just looks worrisome but symptoms are worrisome…read moretoo) by my eye to get looked at. Called and made the appointment, all my info was taken down and I put the visit in my calendar. When I arrived, they could even find me in the system... now they want me to wait another few months. When they made an error, why do I have to be the one to suffer? They obviously don't treat their patients concerns and schedules with respect and hopefully I don't end up with advancing disease because of their horrible treatment.

Avoid this business at all costs. As many reviews say, the wait times are terrible. The prescription they gave me was wrong and the glasses I had made were unwearable. Thank goodness Costco replaced them with the correct prescription AFTER MY SECOND VISIT where they apologized for the mistake. They had many seniors waiting in the waiting room, so I think they do a fair amount of Medicare business ? It is a real run-them-thru assembly line of patients. AND my visit(s) cost over $400. If you dare go here make sure they are 100% in your network. I wish I had gone to Lenscrafter like my wife did where she was very pleased with the process. AVOID !

It is a privilege to write about Dr. Sang and her team. Not only is Dr. Sang an elite and amazing…read moredoctor, but she shows compassion and really cares. Sometimes, that makes you feel better and is more needed than the treatments! At a time when I feared losing my vision due to macular degeneration, she was reassuring and supportive , and always answers my never ending list of questions, and with patience. Another side of Dr. Sang that I recently learned about is her mentorship. There are a group of young college grads working there who are taking a gap year and preparing to get into medical school. She is so giving and proud of how many of these interns have gone on to great careers. Each time you go for an appointment, it's a "major production." There are so many steps in the process and I have come to understand why it takes so long -- they take no shortcuts! There is a huge staff that supports Dr. Sang and each one has a specialty, from the people who answer the phone and make appts. to the people who do complicated eye scans. I don't envy the appt. people as everyone seems to want a different time -- including me -- and it's hard to make everyone happy, although they try. I guess my only complaint is that I wish I could turn back Dr. Sang's clock about 25 years so that she'd be in practice for another 25+ years. While she is around, I feel incredibly lucky for her to be my doctor!

I have been seeing Dr. Delia Sang for twenty-five years for retinal problems. Dr. Sang has taken…read moreexcellent care of me over those years. However, there are some negatives. Phone communication with the administrative staff, especially Monica, is difficult and frustrating. My advice is to communicate all medical questions (other than simple appointment needs) in writing via the Mass General Brigham Patient Gateway. Dr Sang employs students to operate all of the various tests done prior to her seeing patients. She does this to mentor them and further their education. This is laudable, but the downside is that the staff are not professional full-time employees, and are constantly turning over. One plus, while you are waiting for your eyes to dilate, is a Tatte Bakery and Cafe, a few blocks (and one T stop) away at 1003 Beacon St., where the food is excellent. She used to have an office in Burlington, MA, open on Wednesdays. It was very convenient for me, coming from the Lakes region of NH. I am leaving her practice for a retinal specialist in Londonderry, NH. Once she knew I was leaving the practice, she refused to answer my queries about a medication she had prescribed for me, so what had been a great relationship ended on a sour note.

The prep person apologized, but what good was that? After my initial exam, I waited another 20 minutes for the optometrist. I was there to get contact lenses. I was told that I would have to make another appointment for that? Never mind. The office was pleasant, but I'm not gonna go through this again, another appointment? to be fitted for contacts? Very poorly run office. I certainly wouldn't recommend it. I will go to Family Vision instead. I don't wait for over an hour and have to come back for my fitting. They do it all at once.
