It is a privilege to write about Dr. Sang and her team. Not only is Dr. Sang an elite and amazing doctor, but she shows compassion and really cares. Sometimes, that makes you feel better and is more needed than the treatments! At a time when I feared losing my vision due to macular degeneration, she was reassuring and supportive , and always answers my never ending list of questions, and with patience. Another side of Dr. Sang that I recently learned about is her mentorship. There are a group of young college grads working there who are taking a gap year and preparing to get into medical school. She is so giving and proud of how many of these interns have gone on to great careers. Each time you go for an appointment, it's a "major production." There are so many steps in the process and I have come to understand why it takes so long -- they take no shortcuts! There is a huge staff that supports Dr. Sang and each one has a specialty, from the people who answer the phone and make appts. to the people who do complicated eye scans. I don't envy the appt. people as everyone seems to want a different time -- including me -- and it's hard to make everyone happy, although they try. I guess my only complaint is that I wish I could turn back Dr. Sang's clock about 25 years so that she'd be in practice for another 25+ years. I have been seeing Dr. Delia Sang for twenty-five years for retinal problems. Dr. Sang has taken excellent care of me over those years. However, there are some negatives. Phone communication with the administrative staff, especially Monica, is difficult and frustrating. My advice is to communicate all medical questions (other than simple appointment needs) in writing via the Mass General Brigham Patient Gateway. Dr Sang employs students to operate all of the various tests done prior to her seeing patients. She does this to mentor them and further their education. This is laudable, but the downside is that the staff are not professional full-time employees, and are constantly turning over. One plus, while you are waiting for your eyes to dilate, is a Tatte Bakery and Cafe, a few blocks (and one T stop) away at 1003 Beacon St., where the food is excellent. She used to have an office in Burlington, MA, open on Wednesdays. It was very convenient for me, coming from the Lakes region of NH. I am leaving her practice for a retinal specialist in Londonderry, NH. Once she knew I was leaving the practice, she refused to answer my queries about a medication she had prescribed for me, so what had been a great relationship ended on a sour note. read more

I wish I could give 6 stars. I was recommended to Dr. Sang after visiting another retina specialist where I was treated without any compassion and the experience was more on getting patients in and out as fast as possible. Dr. Sang was 180 degrees from that. As a new patient she spent a long time going thru my medical history asking really intelligent poignant question trying to see why I was having the problems. I never felt rushed and she answered all my questions and concerns. I also want to add her staff was wonderful. The receptionist was smiling and helpful and the medical assistants doing the tests beforehand were professional and friendly. Having medical issues brings along stress and concerns, Dr Sang was amazing as a knowledgeable physician ALONG with having a wonderful way of interacting with a patient. Dr. Sang is by far the most conscientious and thorough physician I have ever been to. Her primary concern is for the patient's well-being, which is why I still continue to see her for treatment of my macular degeneration after moving 118 miles away from her office. Over the years there have been several occasions when I had to call her at home for advice regarding a sudden change in my vision. Once when I was in Eastern Europe I called and left a message regarding a problem I was having. She returned my call within minutes and then called me hours later to check on my condition. The sense of security I derive from knowing that I can call her any time is very well worth the 2-3 hour drive to her office and, the wait time once I arrive (reasonable, considering the number of different scans that are taken each time I come, and the time needed to read them). Dr. Sang is good but my visit was ruined by her receptionist. Her receptionist (Sandra I think) spoke to me as if I was stupid when I asked her to repeat herself. And when I said I don't recall an information that was said over the phone she dismissed me and said "well I said it" without further explanation. Just not a good visit. Horrible receptionist. I was referred to Dr. Sang by my eye doctor. She wanted Dr. Sang to give me a retinal exam because of a broken blood vessel in one of my eyes. I had heard that Dr. Sang was the best when it comes to retina care. After seeing her I completely agree. The care that I received from Dr. Sang was more than I could have asked for. She showed me my scans and explained everything in them. She answered all my questions and didn't rush me out. The exam she gave me was extremely thorough. Luckily, everything looked good and there were no major issues. Anyone looking for a retina doctor who is kind, professional and, most of all, an expert at her craft, should go see Dr. Sang. read more

Dr. Sang saw me in emergency situation (large retina tear) and immediately did a surgery that probably saved my eye sight. She is extremely diligent, experienced, kind doctor that will go above and beyond to insure the best retina care her patients require. Yes, there is usually extra wait, but as other reviewers mentioned - it is because she will not turn away people in emergency situations. Wonderful doctor and a sweetheart. I doubt you could find a more dedicated and skilled eye surgeon in the Boston area than Dr. Sang. After my wife's surgery, one of the nurses told her that she has seen a lot of surgeons in the operating room and she was very fortunate to have Dr. Sang. When we had an emergency she saw my wife at her office on a Sunday. With an eye problem a few hours that you might otherwise have had to wait in an emergency room could have had major consequences. Another reviewer complained about a long wait. Dr. Sang is very busy and seems to always have extra patients every day because she won't turn away a patient who needs immediate attention. Dr. Sang herself is a wonderful surgeon. However, the "expected" wait in the afternoon, according to the staff, is three hours. or more. Therefore I scheduled myself as the first patient - 8 AM - and sat there until 9:15 AM when I left ... when the staff told me they never even expected her until after 9 AM anyway. Why schedule patients at 8 AM is you aren't even planning to get there for over an hour? I guess she likes a full waiting room. I find myself put off by the lack of respect for my time. I understand she has emergencies - eye surgeons do - yet why have a waiting room full of patients by 8:30 AM if you aren't even planning to arrive until after 9 AM????? read more

I depend on regular injections from Dr. Sang to maintain my vision. I was very concerned when I needed to be treated during the COVID-19 crisis. I was relieved upon entering her office. This is what happened when I went: Dr. Sang has taken every precaution put in place safety controls in her office during the COVID-19 public health crisis to ensure the safety of her patients. I was amazed at the abundance of caution Dr. Sang has instituted. I was the only patient. Hand sanitizers were everywhere. The chairs had been removed from the waiting areas. I was instructed to go directly to the examining room and then to the treatment room. Everything I needed to come in contact with, including the chairs, was wiped down before I used it. Copays were taken verbally. The entire staff were wearing face masks, and I was given a face shield. I felt completely safe and protected. I am grateful to Dr. Sang and her staff for continuing to extend themselves to patients who need treatment and for their absolute professionalism and care in adapting to the current health crisis. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Sang for many years. She has been treating me for retinal tears due to macular degeneration and has "spot-welded" these tears with expertise and care. Dr. Sang is aware of the pain of having laser shots going into the eye and shows her concern with a tender care that goes a long way in my estimation of her as a person and as a doctor.
