I really like Dr. Kaufman - the first time I went to see him, I was hurting badly from what turned out to be an ulcer in my eye. He explained the issue thoroughly, answered all my questions, and was overall very friendly and patient. No complaints. On my follow-up, though, I waited for an hour and a half to see him for less than five minutes for him to check my eye and give the all-clear. Fast forward to a year later, when I was truly apprehensive about another long wait time in the middle of a work day. This time, for an annual eye exam, I was in and out for about an hour, which wasn't too bad. The technician I saw before Dr. Kaufman was great - I wish I got his name. He was painstaking in making sure my prescription was right and going over what he was doing. Excellent bedside manner. So, all in all, I think this office has made improvements in reducing patient wait time. That said, one suggestion I have is to validate parking for patients. This is one of the few doctor's offices I've been to where they don't offer this and it bothers me - patients can wait up to an hour and the parking ticket (which isn't a flat rate) is one extra cost on top of the bill. The parking situation next to the office is also stressful. During peak times, the lot right next door is full or reserved for residents and you have to scramble to find another spot in the garage across the street. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Kaufman for over ten years and always found him to be a warm and caring man. Most importantly he is VERY Knowledgeable and excellent in is field. I was referred to Boston eye from an eye doctor at Bidmc and I'm so happy I went here for my eye treatment. Everyone in the office was wonderful. Maria is extremely welcoming and helpful and was caring after my appointment when I was waiting for a ride. Arianna made my entire treatment very relaxing and enjoyable. Through the entire hour I felt comfortable mentally while we were able to talk and make jokes to distract me from the procedure. Dr Schwartz also was very good at explaining the procedure and keeping me comfortable. I couldn't have asked for a better experience since I have never had any issues with my eyes and this was my first big procedure that I have been through. I had a terrific experience with Dr. Schwartz, who came highly recommended! The onboarding testing with Christopher was very comprehensive before Dr. Schwartz discussed my results and best options. Dr. Schwartz was patient and answered all of my questions. I had cataract surgery in both eyes and opted for Toric lenses to correct astigmatism. The surgery went pretty much as Dr. Schwartz expected and the results, in the case of my right eye - which had significant astigmatism - better than expected. Color, sharpness and distance vision were truly remarkable right after surgery - minor post op pain remediated with one Tylenol. The morning after each surgery (in my case, two weeks between each eye), Dr. Schwartz met me at his Brookline office, for a post op consultation. BEP is the type of office you fly to and plan a trip around to get your eyes worked on. Dr. Daniel Schwarz is the surgeon you will seek out after reviewing his credentials or by researching surgeon ratings online. They are that good. It is of no surprise that their customer service, care, and responsiveness is right on par with their quality of work. I went through a rigorous process consulting with 5 doctors and offices as my eyes are very important to me. I learned what I did not want from the other 4 consults and everything I did want from BEP. They treated me like I was family and the most important person that walked through that door the entire time. All while giving me the best service I could possibly imagine. I am sure there are other surgeons out there who are just as good and worth traveling long distance to get to so you have the right kind of team working on your eyes. That said, BEP does in fact set the bar for how they treat you. If you want the best possible care and the ability to make a fully informed decision on procedure that is ideal for you and have a team you can fully trust with your eyes, go here. Oh and their prices are competitive too and they saw me in a very timely manner. There is literally no reason to go elsewhere unless you can't travel or there is another office locally that is this well established and this good. Oh and for the record, I got ICL surgery at 43 yrs of age with a -8 .00 and -6.00 prescription + a slight astigmatism and I am very happy with the results. Editing this review because one of the people in charge reached out to me and talked to me about training their staff; which I genuinely feel they want to do better with. I do still question this organization and have had a terrible time with the front desk staff (especially the blonde one). They have helped me with some issues I brought up, so I am feeling happier. Mostly though its the care that the lady on the phone had with me when talking about how much the staff fucked up. Original: If I could give a -10 i would. The blonde bitch at the front desk is the worst of them all, but this place is such a fucking joke. They told me they ordered my contacts, after charging me for a procedure that should be covered by insurance. Then they told me another procedure would be sent to my insurance for coverage, but then later took that back and said it was 100% out of pocket pay. Plus I had to pay 60 dollars just to have my prescription in my hands?? Finally, the contacts they promised me would be ordered never were, and now they're avoiding my phone calls after I've followed up to figure out why. read more

Great experience (well.. to the extent of the regular discomfort of a stye procedure!). I had an appointment for 9am, got seen, had the stye procedure and was out at 10:25am.) Wonderful check-in staff who remembered that I called the day before to say I didn't have my insurance card because I left it in an Uber (they accepted a photo of the card). Also, they had a strategically placed socially-distanced waiting room and supplied it with hand sanitizers. A fabulous PA (her hair was amazing!) took my eye test and eye pressure test. This was my first time doing an eye pressure test. Because I wasn't used it, I kept blinking and she had to do it about 3-4 times to get a reading. However after the first one got done, I realized it wasn't bad at all. The next one was a lot easier. I was extremely scared realizing my stye needed a procedure to drain. It was a big stye and I am scared of needles/surgery etc. I was in tears before the procedure but Dr Schwartz was very patient and reassured me every step of the way. His attention to detail, describing every step and making sure I was feeling alright before proceeding with each step was very reassuring. He explained very clearly what I was going to feel, so I was always prepared. When I was too overwhelmed (this was my first time doing this procedure as an adult - therefore with only local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia), we took breaks and he also had a wonderful RN come to hold my hand through the procedure (yes, I was that scared!) I have been relying on BEP&S for my eye care ever since I moved to Boston over 40 years ago. I have been a patient of Dr. Kevin Kaufman for the past 5 years. I have always been treated well by Dr. K and the BEP&S staff both for annual exams as well as when i have problems. In January, during my annual exam, Dr. K found my cataracts in both eyes cloudy enough to need surgery. Dr. K went over the options with me so I could make the decision that was best for me, with my insurance. Before the surgery BEP&S staff (Ashley) made sure everything is complete so the surgery goes smoothly and successfully. The cataract surgery center Dr. K operates in Dedham is very well run, and where Dr. K removed my cataracts and implanted the IOL in each eye - one in March, the other in April. The next day after each surgery, the BEP&S staff (Arianna is fantastic!) & Dr. K checked my eye and made sure everything was ok. Starting the day after each surgery and today four months later, I'm seeing crystal clear out of each eye - it's like watching life on a 4K 1000" HDTV screen! If you have eye/vision issues, I totally recommend Dr. Kaufman and BEP&S. read more

Dr. Kaufman is my hero. A few years ago he removed cataracts from both eyes (not at the same time) and suddenly my failing eyesight became not merely clear but crisp. His ongoing care is intensive, with lots of testing by technicians at each visit before he sees me to review everything. I feel that my eyesight is in great hands, and that's a great feeling. I have no problem with payments--I am on Medicare and an AARP supplemental plan that covers everything. It is true the before Covid there were long waits in his waiting room, but when Covid hit he changed his scheduling methods to clear out the crown in this waiting room without reducing patient load. It worked and now waits are minimal. Usually I can find parking on the street around the corner. read more

In seeking for the right doctor, I consider the most important criteria is the end result after treatment or surgery. I had pterygium surgery performed on both of my eyes. The left eye was performed a year earlier by another doctor outside of Boston Eye Physicians & Surgeons. Not only did I have to sit in the surgical waiting room for 6.5 hours before the surgeon finally performed the surgery, I was not able to close my eyes for 3 days due to pain caused by the sutures. It also left me with a very severe double vision on the left eye that stays with me permanently. Needless to say, I never went back to that doctor again for my second eye surgery. A year later, Dr. Schwartz of BEPS performed the pterygium surgery on my right eye. He listened carefully to what I said and wrote down notes as I related to him my dissatisfaction with the first surgery on the left eye by the other doctor. Thus, he performed the surgery without sutures, gave me important post surgery instructions with explanation and reasons. Now one month after the surgery, my eyes healed beautifully and it feels perfectly normal already. Thank you, Dr. Schwartz. read more

Called them on the phone to make sure they took my insurance, which they said they did. Then when I got there for my appointment they said they didn't take vision plans at all. Eventually they said they had figured everything out and so I had my appointment. Then a few weeks later they ended up charging me 4 times what they had told me. I have been going to Boston Eye Physicians in Brookline for the last 4 years with my daughter. We started with Dr. Fraioli, then had two more, and most recently Dr. Kaufman. In September, my daughter was fitted for contacted lenses. Over the course of the last four weeks, I have been attempting to change my daughter's contact prescription to daily wear and get new lenses ordered. Should be quite simple, but I have called no less than 10-12 times, and only received one or two calls back. I could go into minute detail about the number of calls and messages I have left, and the lack of response I have gotten. Dr. Kaufman sat on the initial note from the technician for weeks, and without his approval a new prescription could not be written. After complaining, I finally got 2 pair to have my daughter try. After she tried them, I left a message that they were fine and to please place an order and call me to confirm. I never heard back from the office. I have called 2-3 times a week for the last 4 weeks and at this point, I honestly question whether the lenses were ever ordered. I was told they would arrive in a few days and it has been 10 so far and they have not arrived! This morning I called Boston Eye Physicians. I again explained the situation, that we are going on 4+ weeks without contacts. Exasperated, I left another message that I would like to be called back with the tracking information for the lenses. Several more hours passed, and no one called me back. I finally called to tell them that I was coming in this afternoon and to please have a copy of the prescription ready. I will not be going back to Boston Eye Physicians ever again. There is no excuse for the terrible customer service I received, especially for something as basic as ordering contact lenses, that can be ordered in 5 mins online, and be here in few days. There were so many opportunities to make this situation right, and they never did. This is one of the worst run medical offices I have ever been to. read more

I was impressed at how knowledgeable the techs were. I saw Dr. Floyd both times I've been and he was very helpful in getting exactly what I needed and making it somewhat affordable. He called every contact company he knew of to see if they made the certain prescription I require. Since the new contacts I need are about $125 a box, the office managed to get me three free trial lenses (even though they have to be custom made). Dr. Floyd was the first ophthalmologist to correct for my astigmatism and ditch Acuvue since the strength of their lenses doesn't go as high up as I actually need. He also introduced me to an amazing disinfecting solution that I love. It can be costly if it's your first time getting fitted for contact lenses, which you have to pay for out of pocket. Apparently it can be a couple hundred dollars. Other than that, everyone I've met is very friendly! The most important thing I look for with an eye doctor, is level of expertise. They passed (Dr. Floyd, at least). Felix, the optician in the optical shop connected to the office, is great! He's helpful, polite, and efficient. There is convenient parking, IF you're willing to pay. If not I think you can park on Pond Street or something and walk a little. read more

Wow! The updates to the office are beautiful. I felt very comfortable with all of the safety measures that they have put in place. The facility is so clean, you can see staff wiping down the equipment, chairs, tables, etc... There are also signs indicating what machines/rooms have been cleaned and ready for use. I felt very safe bringing my young child there for his appointment. Kerri was very patient with my son while she administered the various eye tests. Dr. Kaufman was very helpful in getting us info for a new RX because the current one we have is on back order. I would definitely recommend! read more

I've been there twice and won't be back again. First, it turns out they don't take vision insurance plans at all. My first visit there - I asked for an appointment with an ophthalmologist (ie an MD). I ended up seeing an optometrist. She was very good - but I was never told she wasn't an ophthalmologist or asked if that was okay. The person I saw was certainly very competent, but I found her cold and felt like I was using up her time and needed to not ask too many questions. I also had a billing issue and found the billing person unpleasant. The details were about my particular situation - but I found that the billing person kept interrupting me, was very stubborn about something she was absolutely wrong about, and was incredibly unhelpful. I certainly concur with other reviewers about the rudeness issue. I've had much better experiences at other optometrists and other ophthalmologists - I only went there because I needed an appointment quickly- I can see now why they had one available. read more
