Our second stop on our wine tasting tour through Paso Robles for my best friend's bachelorette was at Pear Valley winery. Their tasting room is very large with high vaulted ceilings and plenty of room to spread out. We had a reservation for a party of nine and they were waiting for us when we arrived. All of the wine servers were very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. They offer a nice variety of white and red wines to sample. A tasting consists of any six wines of your choice. Since they offered seven different red wines and red wines are my favorite, I decided to try all of the red wines (they let me taste the 7th one for free). The grounds at Pear valley are stunning so to break up our wine tasting we made our way to the lookout point to enjoy the views. The wine servers were telling us that they offer free concerts year-round at the winery. read more

The hubby and I were sipping on The Crash at Steinbeck next door and some fellow wine tasters informed us that they just came from Pear Valley. I was told it was not dog friendly. We had our dogs with us but since it was a cool day we thought we could leave the dogs in the car to sample some wines. I loved the complimentary cheese, crackers, and meatballs. That was a nice touch. This place has a lot of sweet dessert wines and ports. I hope the owners consider allowing dogs in the patio area on a leash in the future. Or even a shaded area to park to leave the dogs in the car would be nice. read more

First vineyard I ever visited in Paso. It was shortly after they debuted over seven years ago. Fell in love with the property and the wines. Walk up the small hill and take in the view. You're Welcome. Joined immediately and still my favorite. Kathleen, one of the owners, is so kind and is such a great host touring their barrel room. The Pear Valley team is so nice too. They share responsibilities, so you could get several different team members pouring during your tasting. They know all about the wines and the stories behind them. Today, a woman who works at your winery was very rude with my husband and I. We were walking around the grounds taking pictures when she approached us and said that we weren't allowed in the area. There were no signs posted that informs anyone that the area was restricted. Omg she made me feel like I was some sort of criminal. My husband was very upset. We have been coming here for the past five years and we consider this place our favorite winery to visit. After this incident, I am now having second thoughts about returning here in the future. read more

Pear Valley has gorgeous views. Seriously. The wine is good, but boy oh boy that view! I love Pear Valley because it's a little bit of Napa right in Paso Robles. Beautiful stone work and secret gardens are all around the tasting room. Roses and other flowers are tended to with great care. Obviously, this is a favorite among locals for weddings and other large events. Pear Valley is unique in their winemaking, and that's why I often choose Pear Valley to take visiting family friends. If you're looking to expand your white palette, definitely take a look at Pear Valley. I'm a red lover, through and through, but I'm always game for trying out other wines. And with a waived tasting fee with purchase (or $10 fee if you don't purchase) there's really no reason to try everything you're curious about. Some of my favorites include their Inspiration ($25), which is a rich and warm red with notes of coffee and rich fruits. It's a beautiful drinking wine. I'm also always intrigued by their Muscats. The Orange Muscat ($16) is totally unique and definitely something to try. I'm not a fan of sweet wines, but there's something very beautiful about this one. It's floral on the nose, and not too cloying in the mouth. Try it for yourself. Same with Pretty Girls ($15). The smell of honeysuckle is enough to put me in a great mood. Service has always been friendly and kind. It can get overly busy, especially if you spot that dreaded wine tour van in front. read more

One of the only places in Paso with an expansive dessert wine list, so it's a must visit if you're into dessert wines. The Frizzante is particularly good. The winery is also quite beautiful. The only minus to the place is the service, which can be slow and inattentive when they're busy. read more

First, let me start by saying that Pear Valley wines are very good for their price point. As club members, we have enjoyed the wines for over a year now. Their 2014 Aglianico is one of our favorite wines. Having said this, we recently had a very bad experience as club members. We would definitely not recommend becoming wine club members! Very poor treatment over a couple bottles of wine we requested to be replaced.... Specifically, we ordered (and received) a case of Pear Valley's 2015 Aglianico wine. After opening and tasting the 2015's, we found the wine had significant levels of titrates, and had a very bitter taste. After trying three bottles to make sure we didn't have a couple of bad bottles, we contacted the winery. After waiting 10 days for a response, the winemaker and club manager admitted the wine was young and many people had reported they had found the wine to be acidic. We asked if we could receive a different wine to replace the three bottles we were dissatisfied with, and after engaging in communications with the owner of the winery, our request was denied. As club members of other wineries in the Paso area, we have never experienced customer service like this. We were very polite and professional in our communications with Pear Valley, and had previously ordered a significant amount of wine from this winery, but the staff at Pear Valley felt like replacing 3 ($20) bottles of wine was too great of an "ask." Needless to say, we cancelled our membership. There are plenty of good wineries in Paso. If you are looking for a good Aglianico, go for Pear Valley's 2014. If you are looking for a good wine club, take.a PASS on Pear Valley! read more

This was my third time wine tasting in the month of April. I'm not a wino, I swear! Anyways, our semiannual wine tour in Paso Robles brought us to Pear Valley. Our large party of 60 people were given a private tasting room, where it was much needed. We were loud, but still composed as it was only our first winery stop. The wine was good; the orange muscato was good, but a little too sweet. The staff was nice, but sometimes moody. I don't blame them since there were so many of us. The winery itself is gorgeous. We went here on recommendation from our hotel, and we are glad we went! First off, it is an Estate Winery so all the grapes used in their wine are sourced in the vineyards around the tasting room. They have A LOT of wine, and we really enjoyed what they tasted. This is a great option if you are into dessert wines and ports, as they have a substantial amount of them. Tina was our host, and she was fantastic! A nice surprise was that they collaborated with Coldstone Creamery to create a sorbet made from Pear Valley wines! We got a generous scoop of the Raspberry & Cab Sauv for $2. The grounds are lovely. We played corn hole, swung on a nice wooden swing that overlooks the valley, and saw a fantastic view from their wedding area. Not to mention, they have winery kitties! read more

This winery was highly recommended by the woman who poured for us at Rockin' R, our favorite stop of the day, so we went there without hesitation. The woman who poured for us was friendly and funny and split all of their options between our two glasses so we can taste them all. They have two chardonnays (one oak and one steel barrel) that even I enjoyed. Their reds are also delicious and they have some surprising, well priced white and red blends. We bought a few bottles, including a chardonnay for my dad and a muscat for my honey's colleague's birthday. They also sell some other gifties so we picked up a pretty pear shaped candle for my mom. It was a weekend, it was just too busy in there, they really need some extra help to serve people better. The three people I saw were running like chickens with their heads cut off, they just couldn't keep up. We really wanted to buy a bottle or 2 of the orange muscat they had but they just couldn't help us in good time. Stopped here mid-week to enjoy a picnic at their hilltop setting. It is certainly worth a walk up the steps to the oak overlooking the valley below. The tasting room is in a beautiful French style building and the tasting room seemed to be able to accommodate quite a few people; however, it was a Wednesday, so just two other groups were in. The guy pouring the wine didn't really seem to know what he was pouring and didn't describe much. However, the other pourer seemed more knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the Grenache, but nothing else really stood out. Overall, this is a peaceful spot on the eastside with decent wines that's worth a look. read more

Apparently these people are not very nice folks _ I am wine club member and a business owner - during this pandemic and closure of business on march 17th I assessed my situation with my CPA and one of many plans was to contact all my non essential memberships, clubs and subscriptions and place them on hold or canceled them. Why, so I could save cash and divert it to pay my staff. Every little bit helps during this shut down and to keep people employed and money going to their families. In Paso alone I am a member of 7 winery clubs. I made every one of the wineries aware of what I was doing and why. I asked for a "hold" on all orders or my membership if possible within their systems. If not, just cancel it for the time being. I stated after we all get through this pandemic and economic crises if I am able I will rejoin. I recieved a free tasting due to the amount of wine I purchased as well as some other stuff in the tasting room last year. I decided to sign up for a small membership to get a few of there wines. I have been with them since last year and they totally ignored me. They ignored my multiple emails asking for them to stop the future orders. In Paso I emailed only once to Cass, Oyx, Vina Robles, Parish, Villanueva, Eberle, and Justin. All of which sent a nice reply with very warm wishes. They all acknowledged similar concerns for their staff and full understanding - Some were able to hold my membership and others just stopped it with well wishes. I received the same Responses from Napa wineries and Oregon wineries. Everyone understood and was gracious. What did Pear Valley do ignore me over and over again. While ignoring me 20 days has past so they could make a new shipment that just arrived today. They just had to get that last sale. I emailed repeatedly long before the shipments were made. First email went out March 20th with no response again after the first 3 emails went ignored I included all the owners and all emails they had listed on their website for contacts- I did this almost everyday one or two skips for 12 days All I can say is Shame on you, what greedy people. I buy a lot of wine some of my memberships I get a case for each shipment - I only buy 3 bottles from Pear valley so not a large spend. However they just lost my membership forever. There is a lot of great wine and great people making it. So I will not support these types of people. More importantly I will always tell everyone not to go there and why. Clearly they do not care about anyone but themselves. Obviously they had staff working to create the box and ship it and bill it. There is no way in the 8 to 10 or so emails I sent they did not see them. Greed and lack of empathy and care - these are the traits of horrible people, shame on you pear valley owners and management staff! read more

Came here because they had varietals that I like but was disappointed when we got there and none of the wines I wanted were being served. I explained to our server Simon I was not interested in what was on the tasting menu. He was very understanding and explained that many wines were out of stock due to wine club shipments but he did his best and we tasted the Aglianico and Distraction Cabernet blend. The Distraction was by far the best wine and while it was the most expensive it was still an ok price by Paso standards. Looking forward to returning here when they have more wines available. read more

We asked a local where they would go with a few days in town and so many options. They pointed us to Pear Valley. A nice large tasting room but not too crowded. We had a nice local women give us our tasting. I wish I could remember her name. She had so much knowledge on the wines but also the area. $5 to taste six wines but if you purchase a bottle then the tasting fee is waived. They have more than six to taste so my husband & I both purchased a tasting and were able to taste 12. Overall nice wines. Nice experience to get away from the crowds. A nice place to grab a class and take a break from wine tasting. If you want a wide variety without the crowds and a reasonable tasting fee this is your place. read more

Signed up for a tour while up in Paso for Valentine's weekend and ended up at Pear Valley for one of our stops....our tour guide who grew up in the area explained that she's visited almost every operation in the area and worked at many of them and Pear Valley is by far her favorite so we had high expectations. From the start I noticed a big difference especially after learning that one of the folks behind the counter pouring was the wife of the owner. They also had some great hors d'oeuvres free of charge in addition to the typical crackers/bread. Wedding Review: Owner Kathleen Maas and manager Marina Dawson were UNBELIEVABLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND DOWNRIGHT RUDE. I am heartbroken to write this as we were so in love with our wedding venue, however, after experiencing the poor treatment that we all just went through, I thought it only right to warn other Brides as I know how stressful this process can be (and reviews helped us tremendously throughout the planning process). Not only did this venue BACK OUT OF DOZENS OF THINGS LAST MINUTE that were PREVIOULSY AGREED UPON (i.e. during cocktail hour the owner SNARKILY decided that they would not open/pour champagne at the bar when I had confirmed again IN WRITING the week prior that they would- so I personally went to the kitchen to open bottles for my guests), they DIDN'T ALLOW GUESTS TO USE THE RESTROOM before the ceremony (including older family members saying "You're not my guest and need to leave immediately)," but they TREATED US SO INCREDIBLY POORLY including OUR VENDORS (who told me they WILL NEVER WORK HERE AGAIN), and ALL of my family / friends who helped that day (even my sweet grandmother)- all of which was UNWARRANTED. After reading a previous bad wedding review online, I went out of my way to be nothing but kind to every single person at Pear Valley because I didn't want the owner Kathleen to spoil our day as she had with a previous bride who reviewed them. I was COMPLTELY TAKEN ABACK & SHOCKED that anyone could be that RUDE & INCONSIDERATE to anyone LET ALONE A BRIDE/GROOM about to get married. There were SO MANY HEAD ACHES LEADING UP TO THE WEDDING (like finding out on my own 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE WEDDING that the manager had switched again (which they are known), and STARTING OVER with every single detail that was previously agreed upon (such as having a bottle of wine on each dinner table so every guest didn't have to get up and go to the bar individually once they sat down to dinner, and not being able to decorate the 1 single table in the tasting room until after the ceremony start time leaving us with no one to do it)- were all so simple yet SO DIFFICULT TO GET them to agree to (ALL OF WHICH WAS ALREADY AGREED UPON WHEN WE BOOKED). The DOWNRIGHT MEANEST EXPERIENCE was my DENIED REQUEST to print my misplaced vows just 20 minutes before the ceremony. I literally couldn't believe that they said no & "If I get around to it"... "I'm too busy to print them," - WHILE STANDING JUST 10 FEET FROM THE PRINTER! WOW...who does that?? We also had nearly a case of left over white wine with cracked seals and bugs in them when we got home. They weren't used, not even a single drop, and now we have to throw them away. It had to be intentional...and JUST PLAIN MEAN! We bought $2k worth of wine, hoping for some left overs but it appears it was a mistake to leave it all in their hands. If you book this venue - all I can say is you will have a beautiful venue but TERRIBLE CUSTOMR SERVICE & STRESS. There are literally countless gorgeous venues in the area that will treat you the way you treat them - kind and considerately. I could literally write pages listing out the bad experiences we had with Pear Valley. Instead I will let this go here and focus on my amazing vendors who saved our day - Popolo Catering, By Request DJ & Event Director Nina Hamilton-Wilber (ALL WHO ROCKED). read more

"Dust kills grapes!" The owners want you to roll in at a snails pace (5-10mph), so that your car does not kick up dust onto their crops. GIRL, this is SO hard for my impatient self to do, but if it's for the grapes, I'll do it for the grapes! Pear freaking Valley! I literally love this place so much. It is my favorite winery, ever! Everything about this place is awesome. Their wines, their service, their meatballs (Saturday only), their prices, their view, their tasting room. ALL GREAT. You can't go wrong with trying this place out. When it comes to wineries, I'm your girl. I have been all around the Paso Robles area (and Napa too) in search of the best wineries and wine. Probably tried at least 20-30 wineries in just this area. And your girl found all she could ever desire right here. Pear Valley is a gem! So much so, my friends and I will always start our trips here. So much so, that I became a wine club member here. The DL: - Tastings are $5 (free for your party if you are a member, or a free tasting per bottle purchased) - They have a good selection of reds, whites, and sweets. I personally love the reds! - Meatballs are served only on Saturdays and their meatballs SMACK. They also serve cheese and breadsticks, yay drunchies! - The service is phenomenal, the people who work here are so helpful, patient, and funny! - The view is gorgeous, literally, dress in your Sunday clothes, boys and girls, because you will want to hike up to their little hill and have yourselves a photoshoot! The website for this winery clearly states that they offer outdoor tastings. We booked a reservation weeks in advance for an outdoor tasting. When we arrived, a staff member informed us that they weren't tasting outdoors because it had rained earlier that day & was " too cold" (it was in the mid - 60s & a little cloudy when we arrived ). So awful that this place doesn't honor outdoor reservations or care if their guests don't want to taste indoors due to COVID. We didn't have this problem at any other winery we visited in Paso. Stopped by Pear Valley on our weekend in Paso Robles recently. The place was VERY inviting, the people behind the wine bar were terrific - and the wine was even better. We probably stayed for over an hour and ended up joining their wine club and taking home a case of their wine. Their 2009 Chard was one of our faves - had a bottle the other night with a fish dinner and it was awesome. I would also recommend their Orange Muscat and their Distraction. Those were our three faves - but all of their wine was good to great. Can't wait to go back. read more

10 stars for Pear Valley Winery. This is a hidden gem. I found it looking on Google maps because I was staying at the Allegretto resort and wanted to visit wineries near our Resort. I did the Red wine tasting and all the wines were spectacular. SO much flavor and care to get the wines to this level. The service was friendly and accommodating. I liked that we were allowed to bring our own snacks in and have a picnic. The views were spectacular and there were beautiful sculptures on the property and gorgeous rose gardens to walk through. There were even steps to take to the top of the hill and it was so serene and peaceful. I recommend adding a gazebo up there or seating where people can sit and drink a glass of wine. We spent 2.5 hours at the winery and would have stayed longer but it closed at 5pm. I bought 2 bottles of red wine, the Merlot and the Nero D Avola, both spectacular. I plan to buy more of their wines from their website for special occasions. Great job Pear Valley ! read more
