I got the Gene Kelly (sans pesto and substituted with mustard), and I was very underwhelmed. A $15 sandwich should have way more oomph to it, but this tasted like it should have been $5. I would not go back to Peacock Cafe. Ever. I came here for brunch with a couple of friends and expected it to be delicious based on the mass of people there and its location in Georgetown. Not the case. The menu selection was overpriced and just plain poor. My side of fruit were half mushy/bruised and the food itself was something I could've gotten at a diner... except a diner would have been better and cheaper. Some of the food was also cold. The service was worse than the food. My table was outside and in order to get the waiter's attention, we basically had to stand up and go up to him. It was ridiculous- water refills upon request only, food took forever to come out, and the waiter kept forgetting our orders, and blatantly ignored us also. It would be one thing if the food was good... but crap food AND crap service? No thanks. Just because you are fancy and overpriced does not mean you are good. Stop relying on that and hire some better chefs and waiters. read more

I came here on a whim and was super impressed with the service and ambience. I had come mostly to kill time before my dinner plans so I only ordered a smoothie. I was pretty nervous about being looked down on for dining alone and not ordering a full meal (based on an experience earlier in the day at Brasserie Liberte), but my waiter was the absolute best. I didn't catch his name but he was an older French (?) gentleman. He gave no pressure to order anything else and was warm and welcoming regardless. Plus the smoothie was great - you can select one of their suggested combos or customize it with up to 5 different fruits! An example of their hospitality- I was getting eaten alive by mosquitoes even after being seated inside bc the doors were open, and my waiter graciously offered to move me to a spot away from the doors. On top of that, he personally brought me some bug spray! He even checked in on me later and said something about how some people have sweeter blood and attract mosquitoes more (something my mom used to say). Peacock Cafe offers a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items so there were plenty of choices but we went with breakfast food at this American restaurant. My partner ordered a salmon platter and I got steak and eggs. Both dishes were delicious and the service was great; the owner even came by twice to see how we liked everything. The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is because $16 for smoked salmon on a bagel is a bit pricey. read more

The host kindly sat us but our waiter was a very tall man who was clearly upset that he had to come outside to take our orders. He was passive aggressive and mumbled when we asked what teas they have. I was hoping for more of a brunch selection; most of the menu items were pretty standard. My eggs benedict came out on a piece of sourdough toast, so the eggs soaked it quickly. The salmon was a good consistency, and the shoestring fries were crispy and not too salty. My sister ordered the all american dish and her chicken sausage was tasty along with the home-fried potatoes. very unpleasant experience. the manager refused service because she claimed my Id was fake. She told me it didnt have a hologram and was not raised however, both of these things are untrue. She refused to look at it in the light to see the hologram and was also unwilling to explain why she needed to recheck it. I have traveled with my ID within the past three days and will be traveling with it again tomorrow. If TSA knows my ID is real, your restaurant should be able to too. read more

There is also a convenient parking garage right next door (although be aware that it can get expensive at $9 an hour). My friends and I came here on a Sunday and it was very busy! I highly recommend making reservations if you plan on visiting during the weekend. The cafe had seating both indoor and outdoor, as well as a bar. I ordered the All-American ($14.95), which included two eggs, choice of meat (bacon, ham, or chicken sausage), home-fried potatoes, and a biscuit. I opted for bacon and requested french fries instead of potatoes, which they allowed. My eggs were cooked as requested (over medium) and the overall meal was tasty. The bacon was flavorful and juicy (not too crispy, which I liked) and I thoroughly enjoyed their thinly cut french fries. The majority of my friends ordered their eggs benedict and everyone enjoyed their food. It did take us a while to get our checks, but our sever was very polite. We also appreciated the fact that they were able to split our checks very easily. Overall a decent place for brunch, although it is more on the pricey side. read more

I had the Med salad, baked ravioli, and chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. No complaints on anything. The salad was fresh. Baked ravioli was filling. The chocolate chip cookie was good. I substituted the quinoa for fries. It was good and had a chewy texture and dried fruit in it. Drinks were equally delicious. The place is small and cozy. Bathroom was clean- there are two single person women's rooms. When I didn't see the second one, and was waiting, someone came and told me about it. We told the manager who moved our table around and also gave us a round of drinks on the house for our trouble. Though it wasn't any trouble on our part, the group I was with including myself is pretty laid back. But it's a nod to Peacock Cafe's hospitality so bonus point number 2). The great thing about brunch is that you can lean either towards breakfast or towards lunch. I wanted brunch and had read on other reviews to try their peacock eggs Chesapeake. It's their take on the eggs benedict but with crab meat instead of traditional ham or salmon. I also ordered the bellini. I was very pleased with my dish and my drink. You could see the crab (bonus point 3). There was a good amount of crab and not a lot of filler which I prefer. The crab itself was flavorful but a bit too much salt for my taste. The eggs were cooked well and complimented the crab. Service was very good while we were at brunch. I'm not just saying that because of the extra drink, service was just very good. The mango-tango she ordered to drink was pretty good. None of what we ordered was terrible but none of it was fantastic either. I think it's all just good enough as to keep conversations about anything but the deficiencies of the food and the service--two things this restaurant does not need to worry about. I really wanted to take advantage of the beautiful day and enjoy their outdoor seating area, but stupid pollen has ruined my life. I have a thing for peacocks... so it's not surprising I have a thing for the Peacock Cafe. If you're looking for a lively weekend brunch place, look no further! I have been here twice thus far for weekend brunch. The first time, the wait was so painfully long I was about to bite the maître d out of hungry desperation. The second time, we were able to sit within 10 minutes only to wait for my cousin to be 20 minutes late.... AHHHHH. Point being, make reservations or come really early to avoid hangry tantrums. Both times for my meal, I have ordered the Peacock's Eggs Chesapeake (poached eggs with lump crab meat topped With Hollandaise sauce & Peacock fries) with a Caesar salad instead of fries. It's so freaking good. I just can't get enough crab meat! And that Hollandaise sauce?! Out of this world. Never has egg, crab, butter, and English muffin come together in such tasty harmony. I've also had a small taste of their tomato bisque which is to die for. Hot, creamy, tomato-y with just that little extra oomph that makes it a bazillion times better than your lame Campbell's version. Mmmm soup. Great "Peacock" fries and juices too. All the juices and smoothies are freshly squeezed and prepared to order. Great for hangovers and those lacking in vitamin C. Overall, Peacock Cafe is a fabulous place to grab brunch at in Georgetown. Amazing service! After waiting in line at Georgetown Cupcakes, for what seemed like forever, I found myself in need of a ladies' room. I frantically walked up and down a few streets to find a suitable place to stop. Nothing and nobody seemed approachable. I saw the Peacock Cafe's blue awning, and out of desperation I went in. I knew I planned to order, if I could use the restroom. The host greeted me and informed me that if I didn't have a reservation, there were no tables available. However, after being frank about my emergency, he very kindly pointed me to the restroom and told me to enjoy the bar area. The hospitality I was looking for! I enjoyed a wonderful glass of Sancerre and the vegetarian chili was amazing. The vibe was attractive and ambient, a total gem. We ordered three appetizers,4 entrees and bunch of drinks. None were disappointing! I ordered the cod which was super interesting. The spinach and figs were my favorite part. The cod was just okay, but I was enjoying the sides more. My friends ordered the fillet,the swordfish and another dish I forgot about. After looking at my friends fillet I was super jealous. I'm not a steak person but that night I would've been. The swordfish was really good and very savory. If I go back I would get the swordfish prepared the way the cod was,if possible.
