It's a charming place for brunch, though I feel the menu needs a facelift if it wants to attract the next generation of customers. Although this is a place that seems to value tradition and familiarity so perhaps that's not their objective. I've been a few times, on my most recent trip it was a girl's night out. Service was friendly, and it wasn't busy despite it being a Friday night. I ordered one of the specials, a salad with grilled chicken, blue cheese, and cranberries. It was nothing extraordinary, but the chicken was over cooked to the point of being tough and difficult to chew - and this is coming from someone who likes their meat well done. Solid, traditional spot for brunch. We brunch with friends once a month, usually in the Albany area, and this spot was on the list because everyone loves their OJ. It was very good -- totally lived up to the reputation I've heard touted for years. Literally, years. The food was standard, well-prepared but not earth shattering breakfast/brunch fare, the coffee was a tad weak for my taste, but the service was good and they kept things moving without rushing us. While I get that sometimes you need a place with plain old food, a few riskier specials would have been fun to see. Even just a twist on potatoes or some sort of interesting omelette. If you just want the basics (there is nothing wrong with that) go with 4 stars. Something that will get Peaches into the rotation is that it is accessible by many routes and has ample parking. Really helpful when you have a group coming in from all over (Rotterdam, Albany proper, Vermont, Voorheesville, Averill Park). There's a ton of other stuff in Stuyvesent Plaza so were you to have to wait for a table you could do plenty of window shopping, or real shopping. The jeweler here is great (and where Kris bought my engagement ring) and there are also some little shops worth popping into, even if just to look around to kill time. The location and menu could use a little freshening up but is clean and well lit. I would just like to see a dish stand out as much as their oj. A wannabe Cafe Madison without the food! This place should be called "Peaches Diner," because the food is not cafe quality at all, it's diner quality. They have some of the trappings and cute servers of a cafe without the food. There's no reason to describe the food and drinks I ordered because it's just not that good and not worth my time. I used to love this place...but recently its just downright BAD. The last time we went the potatoes were burnt, the French omelet had a pool of water in it with overcooked rubbery eggs. The first thing you need to know is that Peaches Café is right next to a Chipotle. So in order for me to ever go here on purpose, it really needs to be cheaper, faster, and/or better tasting than its neighbor. I really like Chipotle; I think their secret ingredient is ambrosia that they get from their local Greek gods. I don't paying a little extra for extra taste, or waiting longer for better food. The first thing I noticed about Peaches is their prices. They are a bit high, but I figured it went along with the taste. After all, if you're charging $50+ for an entire pie, it better be good. I didn't try the pie because I figured at that price there must be gold in it or something, and I'm allergic to heavy metals. Besides, that's 8 Chipotle burritos. Eight. Who needs pie when you have 8 Chipotle Burritos? I had three items there: Quiche, Milkshake, and some kind of brownie pie dessert. As I ordered each I thought to myself "That's one burrito, two burritos, three burritos....". Much like Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction, I'm a bit outraged by a $5 milkshake, but was willing to give it a shot. I like a good milkshake now and then, and the chemical sludge that McDonald's sells doesn't fit the bill. I was pleased that Peaches used real milk and ingredients that I could taste and identify. The Quiche was a disappointment, a microwaved cardboard mash up that I'd have expected from SmartMeals (that $1 frozen dinner in the cheap section of your grocery isle). The brownie dessert was also a disappointment, tasting strongly of cornstarch and resembling something produced by a Fisher Price "My First Bakery Set". The experience was disappointing. It is possible that their other items are better. Next time I go to Peaches, I'm going to get three burritos from Chipotle. read more

A total rip off. This place makes it seem like this home style authentic place which it is totally not. They are true to their loyal customers who are all senior citizens and they could care less about anyone else. All the food is haphazardly made and don't even bother bringing left overs home they will taste like shit. They also lie about what is fresh made especially their soups which they get from a bag! For the quality of food its not even worth it. Their dessert are also all made outside regardless of what they say. And you will only find canned peaches here misleading right? Oh pies are made on the premises but from pre-made frozen pies! Just overpriced... get your fast food cheaper somewhere else. What a joke! And to respond to the comment below. I was not fired, but actually quit this place of business. The soup actually sits all day in a heater and there is usually a brown thick layer of soup at the bottom after being heated all day. So there goes fresh. And I'm pretty sure if they were the top chefs the soups wouldn't be so bland. Keep the salt and pepper close at hand. Also to add the coffee sucks, there is usually grounds in the bottom of the pot. Go with the latte or just to to Starbucks across the way. A turkey club cost $15!!!! And it took almost 40 minutes to get it. When I finally got it I was expecting something special for the price. It was a standard club sandwich I could get anywhere else for almost half the price. I've had delicious prime rib dinners that cost less then this uninspired lunch sandwich. I will not return based on the lack of bang-to-buck ratio. I'll pay the price for great food. This basic sandwich did not qualify as great food. UPDATE: After tax yet before tip the sandwich cost over $16. I appreciate that the owner reached out to me but there was nothing that warranted the price of this turkey club. My issue was not with the service but with the price. The service was great but the owners should reconsider their prices. Peaches is like a more fancy diner - they serve breakfast all day, the rest of the menu is largely sandwiches and burgers, and they have an amazing selection of desserts. The prices are also a little higher than I've seen at diners. I've had multiple meals here, and food is very good. I especially loved the waffles I had! I got a little frustrated that the waitress did not write down my order, and then my food came out slightly different than what I had ordered. That was probably a one-off though, and it wasn't a big deal. It has a relaxed atmosphere. I'll go back again - maybe just to eat the desserts! read more

If you can get over the old-person decor (i.e., fake ivies, awkward wall paper, and funky paneling), you can appreciate Peaches. But it's definitely more of a Shari's-type diner than a nice bistro or cafe. They make breakfasts and a lot of sammys, and a whole load of really rich desserts. But like some other people have mentioned, their food is okay--not stellar--and tends to be sadly bland. I don't hate their mushroom and brie burger, but it's not nearly as standout as it sounds. Their sweet potato fries sound awesome, but they're bland. So sad, because I love me a good sweet potato fry! Their other food follows suit. It's a SAFE place to bring out-of-town guests. There's also nothing on the menu that really pushes the envelope, or that is particularly enticing, like OMG I WANT THAT NOW. Basic stuff, like tuna melts, wraps, and Caesar salads. My one major complaint is price. It's not cheap, especially for quality. Sammys and burgers will easily set you back $10-$12...way too much in my book. Not worth your time and money. I had rather low expectations given the modest reviews, and yet the food was still worse than expected. Upon the server's suggestion, I got the Southwest Potato Frittata ($8.95 now), and found it completely bland and very much overcooked and very dry. The service was fine though, and although being in what others consider to be a fancy shopping plaza, it was reasonably priced. But, your money would be better spent at Denny's. We really liked the food here. My breakfast burrito was perfect and I liked the super peppery breakfast potatoes on the side. The bacon was a little thin and limp for my taste. Service was mediocre as described in other reviews. It took a while for the waitress to come take our order. Then it took a while for my iced coffee to come, separately from my husband's diet coke, and someone had to double check the coffee order with me first. They have a wacky system that wasn't working so great last Sunday afternoon. I would give it four stars though for our yummy breakfasts if it had been less expensive. I've eaten here many many times over the years I've spent in Albany and it's always pretty good, never really exceptional, but reliable and generally very friendly.Today I enjoyed their Chicken Souvlaki PIta Wrap ($9.95). Very tasty, not drowning in sauce or salt or onions, served very warm with a slight bit of crisp to the bread. The side of slaw (coulda had cottage cheese or chips as well) nothing complex, but fresh and nicely sweet. Fries and onion rings would be extra. Peanut had the special sandwich - a Cajun Crab Cake Wrap ($10.95) that was actually served on a roll so she asked for it in a whole wheat wrap, with the mayo on the side, which they were happy to do. The service is sometimes slow - especially at lunchtime when the place is usually jammed - but today's server was lovely - kind, patient and very helpful. Going out to my brunch is one of my favorite activities. I'm always on the lookout for a new breakfast spot for those times when Miss Albany is too busy or I'm uptown or just not feeling the MAD love that day. I got a lot of glowing recommendations for Peaches, which surprised me because I don't typically associate shopping plazas with good food. First off, the decor was way too country-folksy, eldery home-esque for my liking. But I was there for the food so I ignored it. The coffee was watery and terrible. Ugh. I could barely choke it down. First strike. My frittata was ok, but very bland. It totally lacked seasoning - a little salt and -pepper in the batter could have gone a long way. What really grossed me out though, was the sausages my boyfriend got. Those babies were rock hard. We couldn't get a fork into it. Seriously, I had to hold one down with my fork while he stabbed it with his knife. Gross. The service was slow too, even though it was a week day and it wasn't very busy. I've visited Peaches Cafe more times than I remember. I usually eat brunch here the day of my departure from the Capital Region. The restaurant is located in a strip mall (yuck) and decorated with various folksy items and warm colors. It has a homey feel for those who appreciate that sort of thing. For seating they offer both tables and booths, however the latter is usually occupied. I always end up at a table that is too small for four people and located directly on the aisle so I am frequently bumped by passersby, bummer. As other reviews say, I would describe Peaches more as a diner due to the nature of their food. The food is typical diner fare i.e. a variety of breakfast foods, soups, and sandwiches. The food is pretty good but, lacks anything special to differentiate it from similar establishments. For breakfast, the omelets are always a solid choice. Of the lunch offerings I usually opt for the half sandwich with soup combo. The soups are always tasty and vary daily creating a good variety, from corn chowder to lentil. My favorite sandwich is the turkey Reuben. It has the perfect ratio of ingredients and they use quality turkey. While the food is pretty good for a diner, it is somewhat bland and can be downright boring, not to mention overpriced. As for the service, it is usually quick enough and friendly although they take a while to hand out the check. Overall the only negative aspects are the price and lack of good seating. That in mind, it is fair to say that Peaches Cafe is a good spot for a quick breakfast or lunch and a safe choice for people who like boring food. read more

I've had breakfast at Peaches for the past 5 weekends, and the food is great! I recommend the Irish Eggs Benedict - awesome! If you want french toast or waffles, Peaches has some of the best. And for dessert I'd go with the Tiramisu Cake. Perfect for a couple or small group. They do breakfast well, and a few other sandwiches on the menu. Their service however is HORRIBLE. If you're more than one person they won't seat you without the other person/people being there. There's no priority for you even if they make you wait and take others ahead of you. The one time that they did seat my bf without me Bc at first I told him to just go ahead and eat and I'd get something later, and then wound up coming anyway the waitress literally turned her back to my bf and ignored him completely while taking my order and was about to walk away without so much as a "can I get you anything else sir?" Before I flat out stopped her and asked him myself if he wanted anything. As a waitress myself, I might EVER do that to a customer!!! It seems that with Peaches, haters gonna hate. Yelp Justice Frank finds it necessary to write a dissenting opinion regarding Peaches, however. Contrary to the experiences described by other reviewers here, I've had generally-positive visits to Peaches. Sure, it's a bit pricey, but it's not terrible and at least the food is significantly better than an overpriced place like the 76 Diner in Latham. Regarding the quality and attitude of the hostess and staff, I've never had a problem with them. They've been a little rushed during particularly busy times, but certainly no more so than I've experienced at pretty much any other restaurant. I've been going to Peaches since my first days at UAlbany, something like 9-10 years ago now (holy shit I feel old). Aside from the occasional mixup or bumpy service, I really have no complaints about the place. read more

I was visiting my old home town of Albany last week and was desperate for a good breakfast place. Peaches was recommended to me. The service was excellent and the food was top rate. All of the servers were hard workers but the one that stood out to me was Caitlin. She was my server for my last few breakfasts, and one lunch. She handled multiple tables and barista duties without missing a beat. She was always pleasant and offered a wonderful smile (under the required facemask, that is) when she would come by the table. I arrived when they opened the doors in the morning which offered no problems getting a table. But, the place does tend to fill up fast. I would highly recommend that you give Peaches a try. I know that is where I will be eating during my next trip to my home town. read more

Peaches is Ok for what it is - It is a diner disguised as a restaurant/tea room for older women. Not that there is anything wrong with that - just be aware that if you go here and are age 50 or younger you will likely be the youngest person in the place. I have had lunch here several times and always seem to go for the crab salad sandwich. It is pretty simple and tasty, served with a selection of sides (I get the chips) and is one of the more reasonably priced menu items at $8. I have never had breakfast there but suspect it could be quite good. Service has been just OK. A little on the slow side but not terrible. Overall a decent option for diner-like food with a slightly upscale atmosphere (at least compared to a 'true diner' like Dewey's) read more

I always love going to Peaches when I'm in the capital region. It's a cozy cafe offering comfort food, but is one step ahead of a diner. Their coffee is decent and I really love their tea options (loose leaf and harney & sons brand). My favorite item is the veggie quiche, but be warned that the crust is more doughy than it is flakey. I always like that, but I know some people don't. I've had many of their salads and sandwiches, and their soup always tastes like it came straight off of Mom's stove. Everything is well portioned, but I never have leftovers. Decent prices for the ambience. Great service. Always crowded. Good for brunch! read more

Our quest for a nice breakfast place when visiting my niece at school is over. This nice country decore little nook satisfied my breakfast cravings. Place was packed on a Sunday morning which made our party of 6 happy to know that people come to enjoy their food. Plenty of variety to choose from, prices are reasonable and no one had a bad thing to say. Enjoyed the big breakfast but couldnt finish the good portion. Lovely atmosphere, service was pleasant but a tad slow compared to the hustle and bussel of the usual diners we go to. Will return when we trek north again read more

Food was tasty. Thumbs up for the Quiche and Burger. But I agree with other reviewer, the hostess is not so welcoming. We were seated at the table right in front of the door. One of our party was particularly sensitive to the cold. When asked if we could move to one of the many other empty tables she said, "It's not really that cold," and "I can't fill the other tables, until I fill this one." Huh? Peaches has maintained a three-star worthy existence in Albany over the years. The food is alright but not amazing, as is the service. They offer a range of breakfast and sandwich options, but nothing so complicated that you couldn't easily make it at home. They do offer a beautiful array of desserts, and a nice atmosphere for dining. tldr: if you're living in Albany you can't really be picky. the booth in the very back has weird interrogation lighting. read more

My husband and I and our one year old visited Albany this past weekend and ate there three times in two days as it was so good. It's like a little french bistro in the middle of a strip mall. This beats any chain, hands down. The food was completely fresh, well prepared, and completely delicious. The standouts were the chicken wrap special and the Tres Leches cake.
