We ended up coming here for dinner and then linked up with my gf's friend for dessert. There was a bit of a wait, and we let the host know that we would have a 3rd and our host said he would 'take care of it.' 20 minutes or so later he directs us toward a cramped 2-top which wasn't going to really work that well later. We also let our server know this and instead of moving us to the empty 4 top next to us assured us that whenever we got to the third person bridge it would be crossed with no issue. Service was friendly, but definitely not efficient. I'm not sure who to hold responsible for this. The restaurant was packed and there seemed to be just two servers covering the the floor. The gf got the shrimp and grits-er, grits and shrimp. I had to explain to my pseudo-FOB of a gf that it should be shrimp and grits. They were all right, lacking the buttery creaminess that I remember from the south. The turkey meatloaf was pretty good, a nice texture even though turkey is pretty lean. Dessert time came and our friend came by and we had to squeeze into one side. I guess that bridge was easily crossed but with no help. We got the 2 of the pound cakes with berries and an order of the brownie. The pound cake could have used more berries, if it weren't for the ice cream we ordered on top of all our desserts the pound cake would have been less substantial. The brownie, even though I'm not a chocoholic I enjoyed the taste of it, probably the better of the desserts. Definitely a spot you need to drop in and chill at for my LA folks. Very relaxed atmosphere and most importantly the food is amazing! I'm on vacation so I had to go in. The Brooklyn Wings were simple so you think when they arrive. Not only was the presentation of the food grand but the flavor was amazing! The Louis spinach dip, hand made season tortilla chips was also a great. For my main Entrée I went with the Crab Burger and Sweet potatoe fries. This burger was everything from plenty of crab meat that was used to build the burger. The sweet potato fries were awesome as well. The over all experience was humble with a urban vibe. I've been to Peaches twice. I am a huge fan of Peaches Hot House for their food. 5 stars for sure. Peaches on the other hand is a bit less flavorful. I ordered the shrimp and grits and the French toast. Granted I am biased because the best shrimp and grits are in New Orleans at Surrey's and those are HARD TO BEAT. But I would just say maybe a bit more salt and spice/heat in the wine cream sauce that accompanies the dish. Great creamy consistency, just not terribly flavorful. I did really enjoy the granola crust on be French toast. Huge texture person so it complemented the toast well. The sweetness was also not overwhelming, you could taste the baking spice that add some dimension to the toast. I got a brunch cocktail and that was pretty tasty too. One of my favorite places that I visited during my recent trip to New York! This place is just chill af and has a great playlist and, most importantly, great food! We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and I got the oven baked grits, which includes braised short rib and a heaping arugula salad on the side. The grits are really smooth and rich and the short rib was amazing as well. I went to this restaurant based off of my soror's recommendation and of course I had to support once I found out its owned by one of my frat brothers. I went on a Sunday after church with every intention on making it in time for brunch but arrived there around 3:55pm. The restaurant closes at 4pm and re-opens for dinner at 5pm. FYI. Upon arrival, a hostess escorted me next door to put my name on the list for 5pm. It was a nice day so I didnt mind waiting the hour outside on their benches. Seating begin promptly at 5pm. I ordered the Cornmeal Crusted Catfish with the added fried shrimp for $10 (6 jumbo size) and substituted out the salt and pepper fries for mashed potatoes. Everything was very good. The catfish was fried perfectly as well as the shrimp. The mashed potatoes were a good consistency but they weren't garlic mashed potatoes so I needed to add some salt and pepper to them. The meal also came with coleslaw and on a bed of arugala (which isn't listed on the menu). My mom ordered the crispy brussel sprouts, fried shrimps and cornbread. The use of lemon juice knocked out the bitter taste that brussel sprouts usually have and the cornbread was amazing. Very moist and it melts in your mouth . We were seated quickly and given a bottle of water. My sister asked me if it was flavored water because it had stuff floating in it. I grab the bottle and see some sort of sediment settling at the bottom. I call the server over and the bottle was replaced. Usually I'd just leave but we decided to stay when the table next to ours received their food and it looked good and we were so hungry!! We ordered the Atlantic Salmon Croquettes, Potatoes, Parm Grits ,French Toast and Corn Bread. The Salmon had a great lemon pepper aoli on it but that was all I liked and (not true croquettes , not breaded and fried) . The Salmon was very pungent I'm not used to salmon smelling so strongly. Smelled like it was canned. Way too much onion in the mix also. My sister did like the black mean and corn salad under hers. The potatoes , cornbread and granola french toast were all really good. This was a great place food wise unfortunately the Seating and the wait time was a little bit long and we were told to wait 30 to 45 minutes. We stepped outside and came back in 15 to realize that somebody else was given our table, definitely think that they can use a buzzer or a call back system in order to improve the seating arrangements but overall the the food is amazing and the servers were polite and accommodating however their menu lacked sparkling water and a bigger wine choice. read more

So this place has been around for a while and I never stopped into check it out until today. I decided to Try the blackened catfish witih grits. It came with onions and chopped tomatoes which mixed together with this fish tastes pretty good. However, I know grits and these grits I receive will not on point at all. It's a possibility I may have come across the grits in the afternoon which were not the best but grits should be thicker than what was presented to me. Yeah I think the chef's recipe has to be tweaked on this one. The the decore of the place is nothing toobrag on. Just the typical tables and chairs plain wall nothing fancy. I must admit I did like the bathroom sink although it has a leak in the faucet I like the small sink and the turn handle. I guess I will have to try another dish and I will let you guys know what I think about it I saw some one with salmon maybe that will be the next dish I try and if that doesn't hit the spot then as per my opinion this place maybe a little overrated and possibly for no reason other than a black person doesn't own it. read more

Went to dinner tonight with a date and upon arrival we were seated immediately in a cute corner booth. I've been here before but this was my first time here on a date so I figured I knew what to expect in regards to great customer service, tasty food and a genuine vibe with good music. We ordered The Lewis as an appetizer which wasn't that great. It lacked taste and was a bit watery as if they just defrosted it and through it in the microwave or something- wouldn't recommend. It might've been because they just opened but either way it was non-satisfactory. For the main course, we ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy (with Sweet potato fries) and the Grits with Blackened Catfish...The Jumbo Shrimp Po'Boy was amazing, the shrimp was perfectly fried, the tomato wasn't overwhelming & the bread was light and fluffy. The sauce they added to the Po'Boy was a beautiful kick in your mouth as well. The Blackened Catfish Grits, however, didn't taste like anything and we had to speak with the manager to send it back. My notes on the grits are if you aren't going to season the fish, at least season the grits or vice versa. The grits lacked taste, consistency, care and just overall wasn't what I expected from a Southern food spot with the reputation it has. We also ordered Mac'n'cheese and Cripsy Brussel Sprouts. The Mac was pretty good, melted in my mouth, but the Crispy Brussels were absolutely TOO salty. They were so salty my mouth kind of puckered when I took a bite. The customer service was at best a B, our waiter seemed like he was just faking it until he made it...but he never made it all the way. I was however pleased that we were able to send the grits back without it being a problem. The music and the ambience were pretty great, the booth we sat in was super cute and parking was super easy! Overall, I'd be down to try it again, but maybe next time for Brunch as I've heard the brunch is better than the dinner. Definitely wouldn't recommend The Lewis (spinach-artichoke dip), the Crispy Brussel Sprouts or the Grits...Would recommend the Jumbo Shrimp Po'Boy & the Mac'n'Cheese. read more

Went to Peaches for brunch with my girls during a recent NY trip. It's a well known spot for Southern cuisine and finally I got to experience it for myself. The main dining room is medium sized with a decent sized bar and a pretty small waiting area. When it gets crowded, it's hard to wait inside. Next door, there's Peaches bar. A spot more for the bar than dining as you'd presume, but the full menu is available. There are a few dining tables and the scene is more hipster, modern...house and light rock plays over the sound system. Back at the main dining room at Peaches after our wait with reservations, we were seated. The dining room was lively-- music, talkative patrons and overall a great vibe. I ordered the smoked salmon scrambled eggs and a side of french toast. All was delish. My favorite part of my experience was when the entire restaurant broke out in chorus to sing to Michael Jackson's "Rock with You" I think it was lead by the bar patrons. The music is very loud and made it hard to talk to each other. It made it hard not to dance in your seat while eating. Service was awesome (we had a server with long locs?) I had the fried catfish and substituted the fries for a salad, which was great. The side salad was a good portion. The cream and spinach dip was good.. definitely very fresh. I do like my dips a little cheesier, but, this wasn't too bad. I kinda liked the fresh tomato pieces. I thought the prices were great and really enjoyed the dessert - I think the dessert was called peaches. Maybe it was a french toast with ice cream and peaches dish? But, it was good! I'm just going to jump right in and get to it. The grits with the wine sauce, mushroom with shrimps are to die for. I think the best I've had so far. The grits were rich and creamy and the shrimps were well done. To top it off I also had the cream spinach and that too was right on the money. I'm pretty sure they're known for other stuff on the menu, but I gots to go with my personal craving :) Got myself a medium rare burger with blue cheese, fries, broccoli on the side, and a glass of Malbec to enjoy my meal with. Cheese is extra, you can opt for a salad if you don't want fries for no extra cost. I got my craving fulfilled, burger was a perfect medium rare, no complain on the fries and broccoli. I most recently came here for dinner and ordered the Brooklyn Wings 2.0 appetizer which have both a sweet and spicy sauce covering them. For my entree i ordered the Spice Seared Salmon cooked medium and it came with a bed of spinach under it. Both were great. When i am here for brunch and its been quite a few times i always get the Jim Cade breakfast. I must begin by saying that I do not eat out a lot anymore because of my gluten sensitivity but...my husband and I were in the area and he heard good things about this spot. There are 2 restaurants practically next door to each other and we unknowingly arrived at 4:30PM on a Saturday and we had to wait until 5PM for the restaurant to let patrons in. We stood in line to be let in. I said that this restaurant must be great if this many people are standing on line to get in. We are finally seated, the waitress is very friendly. I ordered Peaches Black Angus burger with cheese "and no bun" my husband ordered the shrimp and grits. My fries arrived hot and crispy, just the way I like it. The burger however was very disappointing. As soon as I took a bite, I knew that this was a Costco frozen burger, along with Costco pickles. Don't get me wrong, I love Costco burgers....for my kids. I was expecting a more flavorful homemade burger. It was ehhhh.. Now many restaurants may do this very same thing, who knows. As food prices have risen, when I do venture out to a restaurant, I expect an experience that I'm not getting at home. This was something that I could've whipped up in my backyard or better yet go to Five Guys for what I consider to be an amazing burger and fries. My husband wasn't impressed with his shrimp and grits either. The music was good though! Well... when we first walked in, the host was really rude, but as the time went by, service got much better. We were seated and attended very quickly. Their Bellinis taste amazing, and they make it look sooo pretty (by adding a cherry). The mimosas are good too, but I would recommend a Bellini anyway! I have the Atlantic Salmon Croquettes, and I'll definitely give that a 10! It's flavorful and one of the more healthier options. My boyfriend got shrimp and grits - this is his go to meal at every restaurant (if available), and he definitely ranks it on his top 5. Unfortunately the restaurant side was packed and the wait was too long for my stomach to bear so we headed down to the bar side which is literally 15 steps away. We walked into the small dimly lit bar venue straight to the bar where there were two seats waiting for us to be seated in . (There's also regular seating, about 4-5 tables) The bartender was just okay. You can tell he was too busy to be social or friendly so he took our order and kept it moving. I had the catfish and grits which was absolutely amazing!!! I've been eating grits all my life and I can let you all know. They have perfected them. I didnt add a grain of salt. The catfish was seasoned perfectly and went well with those little tomatoes. My boyfriend had the hamburger bc he's allergic to seafood (sucks for him) but the burger and the fries were also good (because I eat his food too). Oh and the d&b music selection?!
