I have prayed to the Chinese food gods since I've arrived to help me find great chinese food downtown. Until recently, I thought my prayers were going unanswered. Enter Peace China. We were at Down By The Tracks, and after the event, were looking for somewhere to eat. Lots of places weren't open, but as we were headed to the parking lot, there was Peace China. I could see how I missed it: end of the shopping area, and not near anything I typically frequent. I think everyone has a definition for what they want in Chinese. For me, it's standard Chinese-American Fare, and this place has it. Not only that, but it's well prepared at a really good price. Lots of options, and not left with that "I'm not sure if I'm going to be sick/I might never eat again" digestive process afterwards. No delivery is a bummer, but I'm willing to make the drive for it. Get over to Seaboard Station and try it out, you will not be disappointed. Want higher end, try Five Star (also awesome, but what I like to call "fancy" Chinese). read more

I come here 2-3 times a week for the Szechuan Tofu; lightly fried, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I usually replace all my vegetables with a heap of broccoli. Everything cooked to perfection with a flavorful plum sauce. It's like crack. The pork dumplings are best for your $ in the area. 6 fat ones for half of the price of most Asian places. I place great trust in the freshness and source of their local ingredients. The employees are always pleasant. They often give me free meals when there's a confusion with the order. If I had written this a year ago, I may have given Peace China 4 stars. The dumplings were homemade and delicious and the stir fries were fresh and tasty. I have no idea what happened... My food now has canned sauce, canned mushrooms, and jarred garlic. Jarred garlic is apparently my Asian food dealbreaker (see my review for Spring Rolls North Hills), so now I can't go to my neighborhood Chinese food restaurant anymore. Peace China is one of my favorite options for inexpensive American style Chinese food. The owners definitely try to make their food accessible to everyone - the menu clearly denotes vegetarian, spicy, and gluten-free dishes, and the food generally seems more healthy and less oily than most other Chinese restaurants in the Triangle. The lunch special is only $5.85, or $7.35 with a spring roll and a soft drink, and runs daily until 4pm (including weekends). They also have a few tables outside, which makes this an ideal lunch spot while the weather is pleasant. I'm usually skeptical of restaurants claiming to be healthy, but I believe that Peace China tries to at least be healthier than the alternatives. Their website mentions fresh ingredients and no MSG, the space is exceptionally clean, and the menu is informative. Some dishes are definitely more healthy than others, but most people should be able to find something healthy if they want to. Peace China is a great lunch choice if you're looking for fast, inexpensive food and a clean environment. It would also be a great choice for anyone trying to eat gluten-free, as I don't know of any other restaurants serving gluten-free Chinese food. read more

For cheap, fast Chinese food in the downtown Raleigh area, this is the place to go. Their food always seems very fresh and has really good flavors. $6 for a lunch meal but you pay extra for an egg roll and drink. Better deal - get 2 egg rolls for $2.50. They're fantastic and have a good dipping sauce. I've tried the Kung Pao Chicken, Szechuan Chicken and the steamed dumplings. Everything was flavorful. The dumplings were okay. The two chicken dishes were great. The white rice is better than the "fried" rice. Tip - try the spicy mustard that is in the bottle by the condiments. It gives a good punch to your food (it's really good on the Szechuan chicken!!). read more

Far from authentic, but I guess this is what you get in NC. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options available, reasonably priced. You order up at the bar and they call out your order. We ordered singapore noodles (not overly flavoured), and the szechuan tofu (way too sweet and not well-executed in general). Service is dazed and nonchalant. I have ordered to-go from this place a few times now. I order the vegetarian lo mein. They charge me the same price as those with meat and I get nothing extra. However, it is fresh. You get way too much food, but that's true just about everywhere in the South. I enjoy the food and I am glad it is there on my way to work. My favorite thing is their fortune cookies- not the cookies themselves, but for some reason I have gotten really freaky and useful thoughts from these cookies at the right time. Super fast, convenient, delicious American-Chinese. Everything on the menu we've had has been good and there's usually leftovers since the portions are super generous. The containers the food comes in are high quality plastic bowls with lids and we usually wash them and use them for storage at least a few times. read more

Here's my gripe with Chinese food around here: Almost every place has the same menu. Almost everything on the menu is covered in some sugar/ketchup sauce. Almost everything is edible, but afterwards... you feel... sort of gross. That being said, I prefer Peace China. I used to enjoy it more, but something has changed about it. Awesome! High quality and great taste. Everything is very fresh and better quality than most Chinese take out places. Their crab rangoons are so yummy! Not greasy and have fresh scallions in them. This is a good place and a deal. We've eaten there twice. Each time we got an appetizer and two dishes for about $15. Overall we liked our dishes. We did stray from the Chinese choices and get Pad Thai once. That was disappointing. The other dishes had had good flavor. Our only complaints are that the food marked as spicy is barely spicy and it would be nice for the food to have more sauce to spread some on the rice. Also, the fortune cookies are self serve so don't forget to put them in your bag if you get takeout. read more

Very fast service and very friendly. I like that they list their allergy information on their menu. The food was very good. They offer two choices for kid's meals and my son had the sesame chicken which he said was very good. I had the Singapore Rice Noodles (chicken only) and they were very good, nice dish with cabbage, carrots, noodles, chicken. The portions were very big, too. Good Chinese food at a great price. This place really stands out amongst its pricey neighbors. Other reviewers have noted the cleanliness of the place and I concur. The food has a couple of little extra touches such as the addition of sprouts to the fried rice that go beyond the norm of casual cook-to-order Chinese food. I was surprised when I saw all of the poor reviews of this place. I though it was far, far better than the typical "strip-mall Chinese." There were some unique items on the menu, and everything we ordered was great! The brown rice was perfect. Establishment was clean, counter service was friendly. Because I am a snob, I'm gonna have to take away one star for the TERRIBLE music, which was too loud. C'mon, Peace China! People who think outside the box for their Chinese food probably do not want to hear Nickelback, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Hinder. Just left this place and won't be coming back. We left our General Tso's untouched after two bites. It was soggy, bland, greasy, and gross. I ate some potstickers, which were okay, but I'm regretting that already (stomach, please forgive me). I've had better Trader Joe's frozen Chinese food. My coworkers and I stumbled upon Peace China one night after performing a job in the area. We were impressed and have returned three times since. Personally I like that they have more than one vegetarian plate and that they have brown rice. Peace China should expect further visits from me without my coworkers too! Great food! read more

Unfortunately, I was not impressed. Ever since I've been gluten free it's been really difficult to find any place to get Chinese takeout. I checked out Peace China's website on a whim since it's very close to my house. Much to my surprise, they have a very clearly labeled menu and had a few gluten free items. And literally I mean a few, there are two or three on the menu, but they do have a good sized list of vegetarian items if that's what you're looking for. I called in a takeout order on a Saturday night. I ordered the Pad Thai Chicken which is marked as gluten free on their menu. I told the person on the phone that I am gluten free just to be 100% sure and all I got as a response was "Gluten Free?" and then they basically hung up the phone. So with a sigh I drove down to get my order. Peace is tucked back into Seaboard Station past O2 Fitness. It's very clean looking, has some outdoor seating, lots of indoor seating, and not busy at all so it was an easy in and out. Lots of parking too. I checked with the person at the counter one last time about the meal being gluten free and they said it was. So I took my food home excited to try it. Not sure I can find another way to say I was unimpressed, but there was a ton of tofu (more than chicken actually). It was not unexpected that there would be tofu but I didn't expect it to overwhelm the dish. It just wasn't very flavorful and I ended up eating the chicken and throwing the rest away. I won't totally give up on Peace, I'm going to try their fried rice next and hope it's great! read more

Crab Rangoons were meh. Chopstix are way better. Sweet and Sour chicken was pretty tasty. Pad Thai did not taste like pad Thai. It was really disappointing. Way too much tofu. Big pieces of squishy squared tofu. The noodles are too thick. The peanuts were pulverized and really hot. (Shouldn't they be room temp and used as a garnish after cooking?) Served with lemon wedges. I've only ever seen lime wedges served with pad thai. Not much flavor. It just tastes like noodles and chicken. Shame on me for getting pad Thai from a Chinese restaurant. read more

I've only tried the vegetarian entrees and the hot & sour soup but they are way better than the offerings at the other Chinese take-out places in this area. Wow! This is some of the best Chinese food I've ever had! It's exactly what I always wish I could find in a Chinese restaurant and today my wish came true! Super fresh, high quality ingredients, perfectly prepared, light and amazingly delicious! I ordered the lunch combo with General Tso's chicken. Lightly breaded chunks of chicken breast with perfectly steamed broccoli. The fried rice was light and not oily at all. They are committed to sustainable practices, which is do wonderful! They compost their vegetable scraps, turn their used oil into biodiesel fuel and they don't use Styrofoam containers! This is the only place I'll go to for Chinese food in Raleigh. They also offer some Thai dishes which I can't wait to try! Yay! Thanks for doing it right! read more

I have never written a review for anywhere (good or bad), but this place was just honestly so terrible, I felt compelled. Seriously the worst Chinese food I've ever had, and that is saying a lot. I've eaten at many Chinese restaurants over the years, some good, some bad. This place is terrible. We tried to eat at the Leesville Rd. location today, and I mean we tried, b/c we had to get up and leave after they brought us our food. It was that bad. You have to pay prior to you receiving your food. Which would be fine, except now I know why they do that. The food is just so terrible they know they have to get your money up front. I ordered the steamed white rice and shrimp lo mein. Now, if a Chinese restaurant can't get something as basic as steamed rice right, you know you are in for a bad experience. The rice was wet and soggy. Terrible. The shrimp in my lo mein still had a blue tint to them, they weren't even close to cooked. The noodles were a step before al dente, a little crunchy and super dry. Terrible. My mother ordered sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour sauce they give you is actually just something very similar to duck sauce (and cold) in a little plastic to go cup. Chicken was dry. Fried rice was bland and tasteless. Terrible. My father ordered moo goo gai pan. Just a dry heap of chicken and some green vegetables. No sauce or liquid at all, just a dry tasteless mess. Terrible. To top it off, everything was luke warm at best. To their defense, they did offer to "recook our food, so we can at least give them a chance." But no thank you. Unless they miraculously had a different chef and different ingredients it wasn't going to get any better. Just plain bad. With so many other Chinese restaurants in town, do yourself a favor and skip this place. It's really the worst. read more

We ordered online, and it was ready in only a few minutes. We had vegetarian meals, the vegetable fried rice and the red curry udon noodles. Both of those were absolutely awesome. This is by far the best Chinese food we've had in Raleigh. (It's far above more common take out Chinese food places. You know, those restaurants with nearly the exact same menu and the food is always just okay? Way better than those!) We will definitely be returning. read more
