unacceptable technical skills & service attitude I brought my net-book over today telling them a small piece of plastic was broken inside making the switch stuck and I wasn't able to turn the machine on. They only need to open the cover and ake that small piece out it would be fine. 1) They said they had to charge a diagnose fee of $29 even I told them exactly what happened to make it not working. I said "OK, if you have to charge, charge it!" . 2) I asked when this can be done. They said they were not sure. I asked if it can be done four days by Friday afternoon. They said they were not sure because they had too many PCs to fix. I found they really didn't have the motivation to repair my net-book. I guess it maybe that the problem was too small and it's not profitable for them. I said "OK, if you can't fix it in four days, I might try it at Best Buy" They said:"go ahead!" I brought it to Best Buy (Geek Squad) two miles away from it. The technician at the counter opened the net-book for me on spot and fixed it in 7~10 minutes without charging a penny. What a obvious difference! Geek Squad was excellent in technical skills and wonderful in service attitude. PCW Computer gave me a terrible experience. read more

Not worth it, they had my computer way too long and they erased the hard drive without making it clear to me they were going to do that. My computer is fixed, but my entire family is mad at me for the loss of their irreplaceable personal data. I found a new place on NH ave, that seems much more professional. read more

Garbage Company they do not speak English! Thy also do shoddy work and pass off used parts as new. My HDD was replaced and it failed 32 days later, was told it had 57K hours of use. Do the math.. don't get scammed go elsewhere. read more

About a year ago I brought my home computer into PCW for repair. I was told it would take about a week before they looked at it and they would call me with a diagnosis. about 2 weeks went by with no call so I called them. I spoke to a young man who had absolutely no customer service skills. After placing me on hold for 15 minutes he explained that "someone" should have called me to tell me that my computer was in not repairable. He said several chips were burned out. He also said a lot of work was attempted on the machine (without my consent mind you) and that I would have to pay 180 dollars. I was livid! I went down to the store and spoke to the "manager" who was also rude and insensitive. He told me if. I didn't pay the bill they would keep my computer. I paid the bill but later issued a complaint to my credit card company who investigated and canceled the charge. A friend looked at my computer and found a very simple fix and no chips were burned out. I will never go to pcw again! read more

I have had several good experiences in the past with PCW. Most recently, my laptop suddenly died. Santos not only solved the problem with no data loss, but greatly improved performance and speed, all with a friendly smile and at a reasonable price. On 3 separate occasions I called to see if they had some computer parts/accessories that I desperately needed and the person on the other end of the line insisted that they had what I needed in stock. So I drive all the way there 30 - 45 min and they didn't have what I needed. After the 3rd time I refuse to go to them at all, most of the time they don't have a clue including the owners who aren't friendly at all. read more

I have to update my prior review with more thanks and appreciation. After damaging the same computer again, but now with a sugary beverage, Santos once again helped me rescue all from the computer. As before, Santos was kind, professional, and not at all judgmental about my repeat error. He saved precious items for a very reasonable fee. DO NOT GO HERE!!! YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF!! Horrible place to go to! I had a broken screen and connected a separate monitor so that I could use the computer until I could get it fixed. I had a recommendation from a friend to go here. PCW told me I would have to come back after they inspected the computer to see if it was the screen or the light for the screen to put a deposit down. (I could still see all the images on the computer, so I knew it was a bulb.) I thought it was a little ridicules to have to come to the store three times to have one repair, but whatever. Two days later I had someone call me and left a laundry list of items. I went down in person so that I could leave my deposit so they could start working on the computer and because they stated they could not accept payment over the phone. When they brought my laptop out it had new scratches on the cover, but I did not mention that. (Accidents happen) They told me my monitor was not working and I asked them to turn it on. For the first time ever, no images were on the screen. (OK, so new screen it is ($200.00 to fix))I then asked them to hook it up to a monitor and a error message was now on the screen. They proceeded to tell me that I now had a problem with my hard drive and they needed an additional $50.00 plus $25 for any files I wanted to back up. They told me this was because of the fall. When I told them I had been using it for over 3 weeks without a problem with an outside monitor, their response was that sometimes it takes time to break. (My computer buddy said that does not just "happen") At that point I knew I was being ripped off and the people who work here are the same types of people who put a virus on our computers to make money. Very dishonest people who are much more on the scam artist side that the resolution to any problem. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this place!! I was commuting on Metro-North when a conductor accidentally knocked my laptop to the ground, making my thumb drive -- with dozens of important documents -- unusable. Panicked, I went to PCW. Andres took my order. Over a day or two, Santos did an extraordinary job of retrieving the files by taking apart the drive, soldering leads to the chip inside, and transferring the contents overnight to a new thumb drive. This was an extraordinary rescue, requiring a great deal of precision and care, and done quickly. I was extremely grateful. The staff was knowledgeable and courteous. I'd recommend PCW to others. read more

Bought an OEM power supply for my IBM laptop. I've never had a problem with one of these before. It died shortly after the warranty expired and PCW refused an exchange. I've been a customer for years so I was surprised that they would treat me with such blatant apathy. Brought my older imac in for a power supply problem. They didn't get back to me for almost 2 weeks. They then told me that they replaced the power supply, but that the hard drive was wiped, and that it would cost $189.00 for recovery. When I asked them why replacing the power supply should wipe out a hard drive that was perfectly functional, they just kept repeating "There is nothing on the hard drive." Fortunately most of my stuff is backed up, but I decided to go ahead with the recovery. One week later-another call. They said that they couldn't restore the data. As the guy on the phone is telling me that they can't even install the OS system, someone in the background says "no, wait, I can do that." If he hadn't overheard the conversation... I don't know how these guys handle PCs but given their attitude and (in)competence with macs, I would stay far, far, away. read more

I've been going to PCW for several years now. It has always been a decent place to go. They certainly know what they are doing and they are easy to talk to. But I just picked up my sons computer from there after having it repaired, I was amazed how long it took to get done. All they had to do was reload the operating system and it took over 10 days. I think they are becoming overwhelmed with work and don't seem to be managing it very well. Every time I've been there lately I just don't see a lot of techs working at the benches. Instead they are working with new customers receiving more and more computers for repairs. read more

I wouldn't recommend anyone do business with this establishment...they had my laptop for over a month & never a call...I called 3 times and every time they said they'd call back & never did so I finally went there to pick it up because they obviously didn't care to look at it or give me an update...the guy was rude & still no answers on whats wrong with the laptop... $30 for what? Had a problem with my laptop, they diagnosed it within the day, despite a 2-3 day estimate, and fixed it by the next day. They have a great staff, can give you the prognosis of what's wrong with your device, and though pricey in some aspects, still a better than using the makers of the computer unless you have a warranty. I wrote a review on this a couple years back, not sure where it went. Since then I have joined the IT field, so you can take what I'm about to say to the bank. I brought my completely custom built monster desktop here. I told them exactly what was wrong with it (overheating to a blue screen). I also told them from using hardware monitoring tools that I believed the CPU Cooler crapped out and just wanted a reference on parts since no one in the area had what I needed from online shopping. They fed me some BS that they would need to diagnose it themselves and can tell me what to do from there. I figured what the hell 3 days max and $25 as long as I got my baby back and running. On the 4th day from dropping my PC off without word I gave them a call, only to find out they haven't even looked at it yet and that they would get right on it and I should get a call by the end of the day. On the 6th day from drop off, I still didn't receive a call from them. By this point I'm furious so without a call I go down to store and just want my PC back. They weren't even sure where it was, I had to point right behind the guy to my PC, sitting unattended with the side panel off just collecting the roaming dust in the place. He gets my PC and apparently they lost the screws to my side panel. He then tells me without any documentation/paperwork that my OS is bad and needs reinstalling and they would do it for $120. At this point, I admittedly lost my cool. I flipped out on the guy for the extremely poor service, neglect, and the lunacy of what he was saying to me. I reiterated everything that "was" wrong with the computer and demanded they just give it back. I was given 2 replacement screws that weren't even compatible with my side panel for the ones they lost. Paid them their BS $25 diagnostic, told the people he had waiting that we're before me a much more efficient and cheaper way to fix their problem and left. (Side-note that couple followed me out). I then went to Best Buy, won't say which or who I spoke to in order to protect their employment, the worker there put me on to Micro Center for the high performance CPU cooler options I initially wanted. Drove to the Yonkers one, got what I wanted, went home and installed. Haven't had a overheating or blue screen since. Long story short, this place is is just full of hacks that try to scam on the non-tech savvy, but when caught have nothing to say. There are plenty of retailers for parts at affordable prices, just a matter of knowing where to look. If your having problems with your devices google for the win. Even if your not tech savvy there are plenty of techies out there willing to share knowledge and information. Most of us believe in freedom of information and helping others. read more

Terrible experience. I brought my computer to PCW to be fixed. I brought it home and it still didn't work. I brought it back to PCW. A man named Santos was rude and argumentative. Three day later, he claimed it was fixed. I brought it home and once again, it didn't work. I called and spoke to Kyle. He was sarcastic and hung up. I took my HP DV 7 Quad i 7 laptop to this place simply because i did not have time to do it myself. I explained In detail the issue so that it won't be any problems repairing the issue. After a few Phone calls back and forward with PC W and over a week later I decided to go and see what was the problem, when I get there first of all no one was able to find my laptop right away, finally after 10 minutes and 2 workers my laptop was found but not worked on it I was upset, but one of the techs told me that he will start working on it right away to give him a few hours, I told him that I will give him a full 24 hours to do the job right. I went back the next day and the same tech told me that he can't fixed the issue which it was just to replaced the power connector with a new one. He said that he tried 3 of them and it was still doing the same. Over the weekend I opened the laptop as I am looking around I noticed that the TECH FROM PC W NEVER OPENED THIS LAPTOP NOR EVEN WORKED ON IT!!! the piece that I replaced was the original one that came with the Laptop (YEA THE ONE HE SAID THAT HE REPLACED 3 TIMES!!!) and did the fixing myself and everything works now. WOW Taking about dishonesty. OF course they charged me the $29.00 diagnostic fee too!! NEVER again waisted time and Money..... read more

My laptop screen fades to grey while in use on a reoccurring basis. Took it to the Wallingford PCW who then sent it to the Orange branch. They diagnosed the problem as a faulty screen. I paid them to replace the screen. It did not correct the problem. Took the computer back to them. They then said it was the LCD cable. 4 weeks later I get the laptop back and the problem remains the same. The screen still fades to grey while in use on a reoccurring basis. In addition, there is NO communication between the Orange & Wallingford branches. I had to hound them to get information about what was being done and why it was taking so long. I'd give them 0 stars if the website would let me. read more

THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! They are rude, horrible service and they don't seem to have a clue. They keep your computer like forever and then do not actually solve the problems. Worst of all they delete your whole operating system (all I wanted was virus removed) without even asking if you have data that is needed and their store looks like a computer graveyard. Don't go there!!!! Took my laptop there because my WiFi stopped working. My HP is only a year and a half old. They also took my computer to Orange saying they didn't have the equipment to fix it in Stratford but Orange did. After 16 days and $95.00 later they gave me a wireless adapter that still did not pick up the signal in my home or place of business. Would only pick up the signal in the same room next to the router. They also erased all of my bookmarks and history. Went back again and told them it still didn't work and wanted my money back. They told me to back up what I wanted to save and they would erase everything from my computer. (They don't give back $$). Disgusted I left PCW and went straight to Best Buy and explained the problem to the Geek Squad guy. In front of me he got into my computer and gave it back to me in 5 minutes saying "you're all set". NO CHARGE EITHER! Got my bookmarks and history back and everything works. That was 5 days ago and I haven't lost WiFi since. Will never go back to PCW and telling everyone not to go there!!!! read more
