They did a good job. They did what they said they would for the price quoted. So I guess they are OK.

Good service. They do know everything to do computer repairs.i had my laptop repaired by telling them the screen is not right. And told them to save all my data too. When I picked it up and tried it home they DID NOT do the right thing, they erased my data and notes, blacken the screen. read more

My external back up WD BOOK desktop drive did a fine job for years and was getting full. This past spring, I backed up most of my photos etc. to two portable hard drives and did not bother to copy over about 1.5 TB of photos figuring if the drive was not being used, it was ok. Murphy's Law kicked in when I went looking for a specific award winning photo for a Christmas Gift on the BOOK. The usb port broke. Santos repaired it the same day by performing some magical soldering job and I was able to bring all my files over to another drive without a hitch. He was nice and professional - I just took a minute to read the other reviews and am pleased to see that others share my opinion. A++++++ read more

Since my initial review, they moved their location. Apparently, they suffered some brain damage in the process. My dad brought his computer in there to get it fixed, and not only did they lie to him about what was wrong, they didn't fix the problem. When my dad caught them in the middle of their dishonesty, they were silent, and didn't know how to respond. Since I didn't experience this for myself, I'm not gonna drop them more than 2 stars from my initial review, but I am much less enthusiastic about recommending them to anyone now. I called PCW because of a clicking external hard drive. I knew it was kind of a death sentence for the thing, but I had hope it could be something simple like the enclosure. The man on the phone was extremely helpful and said that there wasn't much hope for it, but they could try swapping enclosures to see if it could be saved. I drove down immediately. When I entered the building, someone helped me right away. From the sound of his voice, it wasn't the same person I spoke it on the phone. I told him I was on the phone with someone here a little while ago about a clicking hard drive. He replied "If it's clicking, there's nothing I can do. It's dead." He didn't even pick it up. I was kind of irked that he didn't even test it before giving me a diagnosis. I asked if he could check if it was the enclosure. Only then did he pick it up and try to mount the drive on their computer. After about 5 minutes he came over and confirmed it was the enclosure. It was a $40 for the diag/labor and $25 for the part. I was told it would be out 5 days. A bit long, but I was in no rush as long as the thing worked after that time. I left the building around noon. That same day, at around 5PM, I got a call saying it was ready! Four and a half days ahead of the quoted time? Pretty awesome. The device works perfectly, with speedy turnaround time. My only issue was the tech at the beginning of my face-to-face with them. Overall happy with the experience. read more

Clumsy might as well be my middle name. Had to fix the front screen on my iPhone 5c twice, and twice they did it right and did it in about an hour. This last time, the whole screen stopped responding and I had my doubts. Just got it back and it looks and works great. They were perfectly nice throughout my transaction. I see some complaints about customer service, and I will admit, I didn't get the warm fuzzies by the staff-- but I really didn't need it either. They were courteous, polite and didn't overcharge. I'm easy to please. The store itself looks like what I imagine Dr. Frankenstein's laboratory would look like if he were a computer geek-- a jumbled assortment of computers and computer parts scattered across tables, desks and counter tops. Again, I'm not going to this place for the ambiance, so I didn't mind the clutter. They aren't selling too much brand new merchandise from what I can tell. A few Otterboxes that don't fit my phone, and some random keyboards, etc. so if you are looking for a new mouse or phone case, I'd recommend Best Buy. But if you break something, skip the Geek Squad and head on over to PCW. read more

Buyer beware with this business. I had two rarely used computers that crashed due to the Windows 10 download. This has been a common issue with Windows 10. In a short time after the install, the computer can not boot up. After I left, they called me back and said both my hard drives needed to be replaced which I know they did not. I told them to just fix the Windows 10 issue. Also, should you use them, always call first to see if they're open. They close arbitrarily on any given day. read more

I recently took a Dell laptop into PCW to get an estimate and see if it could be repaired. The computer wouldn't turn on and there was no power to the motherboard. Another shop I had used before had told me it was not economically repairable - which was a real hit since it is a Dell XPS desktop replacement with loads of features and files. They gave me a (very reasonable) estimate on the spot, which turned out to be very accurate as well. I'm very pleased and the computer works perfectly! Highly recommend this business for an accurate estimate, reasonable prices, and timely service. read more

I had problems with my dvd-rom player/burner drive. So I was out thrift shopping and came across an LG DVD rom drive. So I picked it up at an affordable price. It looked brand new to me. So I tried installing it. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! First of all it must've been faulty and second of all I tried hooking the wire up to it and damaged the wire coming from my motherboard. I thought I had it connected properly and went to start the computer up. It went to start.....the stopped...went to start and stopped. It kept doing that and I unplugged it. Of course I was upset. This was on the 21st of this month December. The following day I brought my computer tower to PCW. I've always had luck with them in the past. The guy there (Omar) was very pleasant and courteous. He said they'd do their best to fix the problem. He told me straight out that they had alot of other systems to fix and most likely it wouldn't be done until a couple days after Christmas. That was fine.....I just wanted my pc fixed. So when I got home I hooked up my old old pc up to use while my other one was fixed. It was last updated in 2007 and was extremely slow. A couple of days after Christmas Omar called me and told me it was fixed. When I got there he explained what the problem was....and he said he tried installing the dvd rom drive I had purchased but it was faulty. So instead of leaving the slot empty he went ahead and installed a new refurbished drive for me. I was extremely happy.....cause PCW went the extra mile. My bill without tax was $95 (which I thought was alittle high) but I was very satisfied with the work they did on my pc. No one ever tells you that you need to back-up an external hard drive. At least of you're not completely computer tech savvy; that's me. When my hard drive suddenly stopped working after 10+ years, I thought I had lost so many photos and documents. I had a friend who works in IT look at it: couldn't get it to work. I then brought it to Geek Squad, where the associate there told me after looking at it that there was no way for them to pull the data off of it. The same associate suggested I try PCW; they weren't 100% that PCW could do it, but worth the shot. When I arrived at PCW, Santos made no promises, but would try. A few days later I received a call from Santos telling me he was able to move everything on the broken drive to the new one! I was elated! As soon as I left, I went back to Best Buy to thank them for the suggestion, and sure enough I saw them tell another person at they were not able to help them. I told the man to try PCW; hopefully he'll have as much good fortune as I have had. Thanks, PCW! read more

I've had my MacBook Pro since 2010 and it is pretty old, but usually runs like a champ. For some reason or another, it wouldn't go past a certain screen while powering on. I brought it to Apple's "Genius" Bar and had it diagnosed. They told me it was an issue with the logic board and it was irreplaceable, and it would cost $600ish. I work in digital media, so purchasing a brand new laptop and losing all of my files was a bit of a heartache. I brought it over to PCW just for one last look. To my surprise, it wasn't an issue with the logic board at all. It was simply a loose cable. It look less than one day to repair and was a fraction of the price! Our hard drive crashed. Brought it to PCW. They did a great job of retrieving data. The new hard drive was reasonably priced. The whole thing was done in 24 hours. Santos, the gentleman who took care of things was very courteous. Because I am semi-handicapped he took special care to immediately get me a chair when I entered and cheerfully carried the unit out to my car when done. Kudos. read more

Over the years they've been very competitive with on-line pricing. So I have the convenience of in-stock/no-shipping/no wait. Because I spend quite a lot every year they work with me on pricing and are very fair. Jenny is very good, I usually ask for her. Nice person. When my my trusty laptop wouldn't even power on, I was desperately afraid that the operating system was corrupted and that I would never see my data again. I was fortunate that the technician on duty that afternoon at PCW in Orange (Santos) is an extremely knowledgeable expert, who worked quickly to diagnose and repair the problem (a failed motherboard). This is the third time I have brought a computer to PCW in Orange for a repair over the last few years and each time they have been great. I'm so glad we have them in CT! I brought my laptop bogged down with viruses to this location. They "fixed" it overnight and I was happy with what I thought was my same old computer that was now virus free. However, when I went to edit a excel document, I realized my Microsoft software was gone! I no longer have access to any of my work documents. Completely unacceptable. read more

I dropped my PS3 off with them on a tuesday and they gave no indication of when it would be fixed. I came in about 5 days later to check up on it and it was still sitting on the counter. He informed me in a slightly rude manner that it takes 1-2 weeks for game consoles and "I will call you." Well I gave him a little time and called about 3 weeks after I dropped it off and he informed me it could not be fixed and cited a problem I had no issue with before dropping it off.I asked him why he didn't call me and tell me this after 3 weeks and magically he was just about to call me and he will still be charging me $30 for whatever he did to it. If I had known this would be my experience I would have just sent it into Sony and paid their rate to fix it, read more

I have used PCW many times over the last few years. Though I am a certified technician myself who does work for friends and family, periodically I do not have time to undertake some tasks, so I have turned to PCW. Overall, they are quick not too expensive and when it comes to issues that are straightforward, they are more than capable. However, if you have an intermittent or more obscure issue, they may resort to overt lies and deception. More specifically, I had a machine that intermittently shut-down suddenly on its own: Instead of actually running the machine, the technician claimed that he ran it exhaustively by watching "YouTube" and could not duplicate the problem. I know that this was not true because of the browsing history. It was just easier to say that he could not find the problem than to actually perform a thorough diagnosis. (After getting a refund, I ended up replacing the mainboard myself.) [Invisible capacitor failure.] My suggestion is still not to avoid these guys completely--the GeekSquads and chain-stores, et al are not necessarily superior. What I am saying is that if you are not the 'tech-type,' try to go with someone who can ask the hard questions and do not accept PCW's "expertise" at face-value, especially those employees with only on-the-job training. It is your money so be sure that you are satisfied and spend wisely. If you don't know someone who can help, call around, describe your symptoms to others and ask them what it could be, so that you have a basis for discussion or your own research. Technical problems can be very intimidating but not getting ripped off sometimes requires that you to do some work. read more

Honesty is important in any business. When you drop off a computer to have the cd door changed (which doesn't require turning it on) and they call you to let you know the hard drive is shot (it was fine when it was dropped off) you know things aren't kosher. I used them regularly for years. After expanding their prices got out of control and the quality of their work went through the floor. I had them wipe out a computer and start from scratch for me with reinstallation's of windows and other software. When I got it back I couldn't update anything because all of it said "not a genuine copy." They used bootleg software and charged me for the work. It gets worse. Without notifying me, they missed my deadline for repairs (which led to me purchasing another computer) and when I tried to pick my computer up I found out it wasn't even at the store anymore. They had sent it out for service! How can you send my computer out for service? I brought it to you! Finally, I had a laptop keyboard replaced on a Dell Inspiron. For some reason the mouse stopped working correctly after they did the install. I brought it back and without even looking at it they told me it would be another $60 to fix what they broke. Never again. It never ends up costing what they tell me because there is always something else wrong with it. You can bring in a brand new laptop to have software installed and suddenly there will be a bad HD, RAM that needs to be replaced, a screen that fell apart when they opened the computer or some other excuse. Once, fine. Every time? Come on. Have a virus? Have a slow computer? Have any software issues at all? Most likely they will want you to wipe out the hard drive every time my staff has brought our computers there it was always been the recommendation. Why? My guess is they don't have the know how. read more

Went in to PCW Computer for a phone screen repair last week. No big deal. Picked my phone up and all seemed well. Later that day, I received a phone call and could barely hear the person on the other line- it was extremely muted and muffled despite my sound being on the highest setting. I brought my phone back to PCW to tell them of this new issue that began only after they replaced my screen (my earpiece speaker was completely fine and functional prior). The same tech that fixed my screen said he would take a look at it but he had his break coming up so it would have to wait. Very unprofessional and not something you typically say to a customer. I go to pick my phone up two hours later and he says my speaker was probably just on its way out so he replaced it (hard to believe seeing it was perfectly fine prior to the screen replacement). They did not charge me for this replacement. However, the replacement speaker is awful quality. If I wasn't planning on getting a new phone in a couple of months I would be even more unhappy. Needless to say I will not be returning here, nor would I recommend this place to anyone. read more

DO NOT GO TO PCW UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE FLEECED!!!!!!! I took my daughter's Ipod touch to the PCW in Orange, CT. When I took in the ipod AND THE NEW PARTS, they seemed knowlegeable. I asked how much it was going to be and the salesperson told me $39. Then he double checked with another person working on a laptop. He also said $39. Keep in mind that the salespeople said the EXACT MODEL of my daughter's ipod. Signed said paperwork and left. Got a phone an hour later and they had jacked up the price to $69. Now they had me over a barrel because I needed it fixed. (Seriously, all they had to do was replace the faceplate). Even though I had the paperwork that said $39 and the error was theirs I had to pay the entire $69 + tax. My next order of business is to the Better Business Bureau. This is not only a very customer service unfriendly business, but one that is fraudulent. Price changing is against the law! AGAIN UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE FLEECED, DO NOT GO TO THE PLACE! read more

Taking your computer to PCW to be fixed is like taking your car to some guy sitting in his driveway saying 'I can totally fix that, let me get the duct tape.' The technicians are uncertified, often untrained, and treated like dirt, which gives them oh-so-much motivation to do the job right. There is not a single program they use to fix your issues that can't be acquired for free online with a quick five minute search. Your computer will then sit on a dirty rack in the corner until someone who speaks English as a (very) second language leaves you a vague and nigh-incomprehensible voicemail to come pick up your computer, which has about a 50% chance of both having the original issue fixed and no new ones caused by a rushed diagnosis and hasty slapdash fix. It's almost tempting to say when you first drop off your equipment that you should lie about your name and other information, because it is stored on an unsecured computer in the back room connected to the Internet 24/7 with nothing protecting your name, zip code, phone number, passwords and whatever else from hackers except that same free anti-virus program they'll charge you $90 to use while they rifle through your personal files looking for music of movies looking for ways to pass time. read more
