I was SO happy to be back. I have seriously missed their tacos! I stopped by Friday for the lobster tacos, and they did not disappoint. Big, juicy, flavorful pieces of lump lobster claw meat that you can actually sink your teeth into - so, so good! I couldn't decide on a side, so naturally I had both: the pineapple coleslaw (pretty much the only coleslaw I'll eat!) and the chips. And my Lime in the Coconut margarita was delicious. But Nokomo's is about more than the food. I missed the whole vibe - happy, fun, relaxing, and absolutely breathtaking. That waterfront sunset key view is one of a kind and pretty tough to beat. The staff was friendly and attentive as usual, and I also noticed they paved the parking lot! Such a nice improvement and much easier to walk across. While I was taking updated menu pictures, I noticed my old menu photos on Yelp - For the most part, the menu has stayed pretty consistent. What really surprised me was that most prices have only gone up about $3 over the past two years. The lobster tacos are the exception - they've gone up about $8. I've heard they basically break even on them, and all I can say is THANK YOU for keeping them on the menu because they are my favorite! While sitting at the bar, I also saw some oysters go by that looked amazing. They were from Louisiana. And then there was a cheesesteak that was stuffed so generously it looked big enough for two people! I can't wait to try some of those next time. If you haven't been to Nokomo's Sunset Hut, you don't know what you're missing. Come treat yourself to delicious food, a cold drink, live music and those beautiful, laid-back Southwest Florida vibes. And do yourself a favor - go before season gets into full swing, while you can still get in without an hour-long wait! When we got home, the Chicken Marsala had no fettuccine--and in fact, no pasta at all, despite paying extra for it. The Marsala sauce was so watery it looked more like broth than sauce, and it came with only two small pieces of chicken. The chicken was tough and honestly some of the worst we've ever had. It was completely inedible. The Chicken Parmesan wasn't any better, and neither meal was eaten. The pizza was just okay, but since the two entrées were inedible, there wasn't enough food for the four of us. For over $90, this was an extremely disappointing meal. The margherita pizza -- which my parents had ordered just one week prior without any issues -- arrived completely different. It had an additional cheese layered beneath the fresh mozzarella that was overcooked and almost burnt. The crust on both pizzas was so hard it could not be folded (anyone from the East Coast knows you fold your pizza), and my son was unable to cut through it with a knife and fork. It was inedible. We sent both pizzas back. The server returned and offered to remake only one, insisting the second was fine. It was not. When we pointed out that the margherita is traditionally just fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, and basil -- and that this was not what was served -- we were told "this is how we do it." We have been ordering this pizza for seven years. It was not how they do it. The one pizza that was remade came back only marginally better. We did not ask again. From that point, our table was completely abandoned. Every glass at our table was empty. Not the server, not a busser, not a single person passing by stopped to offer water or check on us. My father eventually had to go inside to find someone. My son had to walk to our car in the parking lot to retrieve his water bottle, and I went to my car to get a sparkling water I happened to have in the cup holder. That is how thirsty we were and how little attention our table received. The indifference started even before the food arrived. When we declined cocktails and handed back the drink list, letting the server know we would all just be having water, the reaction was visibly dismissive and unwelcoming -- not the kind of response anyone expects when simply choosing not to order alcohol. The hostess, as has been the case on prior visits, was visibly disgruntled and unwelcoming. We understand that Sunday service is busy. We were patient and did not make a scene. We simply wanted food that was edible and basic attentiveness as paying customers. Neither was provided. My mother, who has been one of their most consistent regulars, left saying she did not want to return. That says everything. For a restaurant that benefits enormously from a captive local audience and steady tourist traffic, this level of disregard for loyal, long-term customers is disappointing.
