best fish and chips I have ever found, good friendly service, takes reservations, not too noisy ,ass friendly seats

This was a recommendation from our hotel as a pet friendly spot. I went 2 days in a row. Day 1- Great. 2 piece fish and chips with beans and mac - cheese. The server was great , I tried to get one blackened and one fried, that was a no, he did ask. The fish was very good and the batter didn't overpower the flavor of the cod. I was also impressed with the green beans , amazing flavor combo. The mac - cheese was also better than most places with a creamy texture and smooth cheesy flavor. Day 2 - I came back for the Guinness Stew, I was alone night one with the Aussies and it was represented as a large portion. Small Brussel Sprout appetizer was a good start. Sriracha BBQ Meatballs were amazing hit. Very flavorful and I will make these at home The Brie was a miss. Not much Brie lots of sweetness, minimal chips and a price tag that made it very much not worth it. The Guinness Stew was lackluster. A small sourdough round with some stew in it. It was missing that rich Guinness flavor and thick broth I love and salt didn't fix missing layors I was excited to taste. The price made this dish a huge miss. We talked about that the rest of the night. 2 Prime Rib dinners medium rare were tender, not very well seasoned, sometimes its good to leave the meat the star, we had AuJus and Horseradish for added flavor. More mac - cheese , not very warm, but good nonetheless. Peas and carrots, were okay. The busser spilled the Aujus on my boyfriend's lap cleaning up the dishes, no one said anything, I'll get that stain out. They were out of Apple Cobbler, sad face there. They did take it off of our bill and rerun the card. The manager came out to explain the way that works, pending charges and all, that was a plus. The warm chocolate cake we also ordered was rich and moist, it had some whip cream with it, next time we would add ice cream if ordered again. Recently stopped for dinner at the pub with family members, haven't dined there since they moved from rte 41 to this spot. The new place is modern featuring a large dining area and a separate full bar. Staff members pleasant. Our food order varied from liver and onions to Shepard pie as well as fish and chips. Came here tonight for some good food and this place delivered. Ordered the poutine which was great and the cottage pie which was outstanding in every way. The fries with the poutine were a bit thick like steak fries but that's a minor quibble. Service was great and very fast. The decor was very nice including a statue of what I believe was the queen of England. All around great place for good British food! read more

First off our server "Jade" went well. Friendly, outgoing, lots of suggestions, and info on entrees, a real pleasure. Thanks Jade for making our meal enjoyable. Second our food was oh so good I had the soup of the day, Tuesday= tomato bisque, and a lite serving of cottage pie( no lamb just beef) both were very good my friend had French onion soup and a small house salad she said both were good. We found their food truck at the Grilled Cheese Festival at Cool Today Park. They had their line moving faster than everyone else and we enjoyed the sandwiches. The chippers with ranch were a great side compared to a typical bag of chips. The Prosciutto Pesto Grilled Cheese was very good and we liked the Blackberry Brie Grilled Cheese as well. While they weren't our favorites of the festival, they were close to the top. The staff was friendly and the prices were similar to the rest. read more

French Onion soup was excellent. Service was excellent but was disappointed with our Reuben sandwiches. Were average at best. Others who had the fish & chips said they were good and enjoyed their meals. Good atmosphere and the beer train was cute. read more

The other night I had dinner at British Open Pub in Venice, FL. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. Since I was alone, I took a seat at the bar. I asked for a Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale, and ordered my dinner. I selected Guinness Stew and Sausage Rolls to come out when they were ready. First out was the stew. What a fantastic presentation! The stew was overflowing a puff-pastry "bowl" and it was a good size portion. Unfortunately, the presentation didn't translate to the taste. The meat was tender. However, there was an unpleasant, acidic bite and the pastry was tough. Next came the sausage rolls. The presentation couldn't have been more different. Three rolls were thrown onto a too-large plate. There was no garnish or sauce and the pastry was overcooked and burnt in places. Thankfully, they tasted good and the pastry was flaky. Horrid slop and not cheap. They don't answer the phone so I could not call ahead for a pick-up order and then they slipped a $6+ tip on the $48 bill for a take-away. So far the very worst I have seen in 6+ years here. When a so-called British Pub cannot make fish and chips, watch out. read more

Five gorgeous stars for the friendly and accommodating staff at the British Open Pub, with special love to server Adam and bartender Emily (...I think it was Emily? Whoever was working a HUGE crowd at the bar on the evening of Friday July 5th!) My family and I visited this pub twice throughout our time in Venice as we were staying quite nearby and this spot checked all of the boxes for large group lunch and late night drinks. For lunch, I enjoyed a summer salad that really hit above its weight class for my expectations. Prosciutto, chicken, fruit, cheese, fresh arugula. It was delightful! This salad rotates but I highly recommend if it's on the menu. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their sandwiches, fish and chips, and assorted dishes. Adam was a superstar throughout, checking in on us, super quick, super kind. We returned later that night for drinks with an even larger group, and we all left amazed by our bartender's ability to remember everyone's drink and stay on top of things for the 2+ hours we were there shutting down the bar - working solo. It was something like 16 people with differing drink orders taking up a large portion of the bar. Serious kudos to her for her kindness, patience, and keeping the vibes generally very high. First off, everything is EXPENSIVE for what you get! The onion rings were good and priced reasonably, but the entrees are where that goes out the window. My fish and chips were around $23 (for 3 medium pieces of unseasoned fish and kind of stale fries), the salmon pesto pasta dish was similar; one salmon fillet, 2 pieces of toasted bread, and the pasta with sautéed mushrooms etc. That was priced higher, over $25, the fish was mostly good, we both didn't like the bread, it needed more flavor and was dry, and lastly the pasta, needed a lot more pesto! We won't be back for this overpriced pub food, the moving train and decor are fun, that's about it. read more

An acquaintance recommended this place for the fish & chips & Reuben sandwich. We each had one of the above...the fish was beyond bland (but fully cooked), and the same could be said for the Reuben. The fries tasted baked, not fried, and the cole slaw had no dressing at all. Even my Coke Zero was watered down. Should have gone to the Crow's Nest instead. This pub style restaurant with a British theme is located in Venice, FL in a busy plaza that has lots of parking. The restaurant has a fun vibe to it with cardboard cut outs of the late Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III. There is also a train set that goes around a track above the tables. The service was quick and decent, and seating was comfortable. The reasons that I can only give 3 stars are as follows: 1. The price is too expensive for what you get. Lunch for two people (no alcoholic beverages) should not cost $70 before a tip. 2. The food is not authentically British (I'm from the UK originally). For example, in Britain fish and chips consists of a unitary piece of cod and hand cut chips that are fried. Here the fish was served in small pieces and the chips were frozen American steak fries. It's just not the same. If you're charging $23 for fish and chips then you really should hand cut and fry the chips. I did enjoy what I got, but there are other places that do fish and chips for much less at a similar quality. read more

This is English pub food, and more. Fish and chips, bangers and mashed, they know how to do it well. Fish is fresh and the fries are thick. Caesar salad is excellent. The fish and chips we ordered had zero taste as did the coleslaw and tarter sauce. We barely ate it. I personally like to pay for the food and leave. The waitress asked if we wanted a to go box and we said no. Conversation ensued and she asked why so we tried to quietly let her know. Next thing we don't get a bill right away and the manager comes over and 2nd long conversation ensued. It took over 30 mins for us to check out and leave. Extremely frustrating for me personally. Great experience here! So great, we went 2 days in a row! Katie our bartender made great recommendations and served lovely drinks. I know a lot of the other reviewers have complained about their prices. Those people gave no idea....we live in Atlanta, and we thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food we ordered. We tried the scotch eggs which were so delicious. We also had the cod cakes, and shrimp and chips. Top that all off with the apple cobbler, and oh my, you're leaving fat, and happy. Overall, a wonderful experience both visits! read more

I stopped in on a whim and glad I did. I had the pleasure of meeting the bartenders Joe and Bruce. Both were so inviting and kind. The patrons were all so nice as well. Had a very rude experience on a Monday. We came in at 5:45 for dinner. We called ahead and was told that would be fine. We got there and was seated. Then the manager came over and said we had to be out by 6:45. We said it should be ok if we get served right away. She then said we had to leave. She said they are booked for the next two months on Monday for trivia that starts at 7:00. Didn't make any sense. I then decided to call the next day for a reservation for next Monday trivia for six people and was told they had room for us. We decided not to book. The food at this place is very tasty. We had Christy as our server and she was great very attentive and amiable. We ordered her recommendations and they were spot on. The food was prepared and served as ordered and quickly. Although this is located on a strip mall in south west Florida, we felt as we were there in the good old UK.
