Fish tacos with black bean/ rice with sour cream.

Just want to give a shout out for this restaurant off I 75 at Bee Ridge on Cattlemen going south about a 1/2 mile down on the left. Mostly a fish place but they have other stuff. I love the fish tacos with the black bean/rice with sour cream. It's under $20 which in this economy is great and it's good. Good service and a low key place. You need to check it out.

Paid this place another visit and I can safely say they redeemed themselves. I ordered a sea as from the special menu and it was so good, tender and flavorful. Quesadilla salad still rocks and you just can't go wrong with bang shrimp. Yum!

We're in Sarasota again and this time we're staying in a Home To suites right off of the Ridge tonight. It was getting late and we felt like we hadn't had enough to eat today so we looked for a place for dinner and I found this place six minutes away I like the name but I like the food even better. My wife and I shared the house salad with mango dressing and some kind of crunchy wasn't quite croutons. I don't know what it was. They were strips very good and then we shared bourbon, salmon with spinach that had garlic mixed in and also broccoli. The waitress was a sweet girl and the proprietor when I called to see if the seating was also very nice so I can't say anything bad about this place it's an easy five star.

The good: The service was excellent! The hostess and person who took our order was so quick and efficient at seating us and tending to our needs and questions. I tried the fish and chips as well as a variety of tacos (we came on a Tuesday so we were in the mood for them). Fish and chips come in two varieties: cod and haddock. I had haddock based on the server's personal preference and it was yummy and freshly fried. I was able to replace the fries with asparagus which was cooked and seasoned nicely. The tartar sauce was the perfect accompaniment to the fish. The restaurant was spacious and had indoor and outdoor seating options. There were plenty of spots available when we came. It was clean as well. The tacos were tasty and well seasoned. They take reservations online, have a happy hour and have Mother's Day specials. They offer gift cards too. The bad: I wish the portion of slaw that came with the fish and chips was larger! The interesting: My mother-in-law recommended this spot and came here with us her second time.

However, I feel $39 for a dozen of, very very small, Parmesan garlic oysters on the half shell very expensive. I'm not a big guy, and I personally could've eaten four dozen at those sizes plus my own entree. Overall for two entrees, two local beers, and one appetizer the bill was $135. Quite a bit steep for the amounts served. Kind of the amounts and prices I'd expect to see somewhere not near the ocean like Atlanta. Would I go there again, meh, not impressed enough. My rating would be 7/10. Going elsewhere this evening.

Recently, I was invited to a company lunch last week with my law firm and I politely declined because of that lack of care. The rub: Jennifer was kind and full of grace while we had issues with our meal. The food was sub par unfortunately and did not taste great. We picked this restaurant for the great reviews and wanted to celebrate our anniversary but Duval's disappointed. The Calamari was not fresh, it was very chewy and every piece was tough as boots. It was difficult to eat as an appetizer. My girls steak was ordered medium rare, looked like it was more medium when cut into. It certainly needed the demi glaze because it was not seasoned at all, flavorless and a very dry filet. I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese. Half a tail and somehow I swallowed a piece of shell that was mixed into the pasta and got lodged in my throat. All in all, disappointed with the food. We continued to eat as it was the only resource we had and wanted to not let it spoil the night. The best thing was our server and the Bonanza cab.

Thankfully, I was very pleased to find the opposite. The restaurant is very welcoming and comfortable. There are nice design touches throughout. Service - here is where I am a bit conflicted. We were a party of 4 who arrived 30 prior to our reservation with the goal of having a cocktail first at the bar. Fortunately there were seats available and we very much enjoyed our drinks and service at the bar. In fact, our bartender was very welcoming and she is a very good mixologist. On the other hand, our server for dinner started out on a positive note. However, once our order was taken and food delivered, he never stopped by until we had finished our meals. This is a very big negative for me when I am dining at an upscale restaurant. Food - There were at least 8 entrees that looked appealing to me. In the end, I ordered the Crab Stuffed Tripletail entree. This meal was as good as advertised! It was cooked to perfection and sauce was delicious. The entree included a salad and I chose the spinach salad and it too was very. Overall - while I could make a case for a 4 star rating (due to the disappointing experience with our server), in the end the many positives far outweighed the one negative.
