Let me just say...it was absolutely worth the return trip! First, the clam chowder. My wife gave it a 10 out of 10, and that's saying something because she's a self-proclaimed clam chowder snob. She rarely finds a chowder that can compete with her favorite spots in Monterey. Well...hallelujah--we finally found one! The bread bowl deserves its own standing ovation. It tasted like fresh sourdough that had just come out of the oven--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and absolutely delicious. Normally you finish the chowder and leave most of the bread behind. Not this time. I ate every single bite of that bread bowl. It was simply scrumptious. The fish and chips were equally impressive. Since then I've ordered bottles from their website shipped to myself, and to others as gifts. BUT whenever I have the chance to visit their cafe in Newcastle I make a point to. It's right off the 80 and an easy stop if you're heading East that way from Sacramento. There's a large parking lot and the building is easy to find once you know what to look for- but if you're heading East on 80 it's a right off the exit and then almost an immediate left into a little business area- I've missed the turn more than once and had to turn around. The cafe itself is on the smaller side, but they have plenty of covered "outdoor" seating, I put it in quotations because a lot of the seating is very well covered even though it's still outdoors. Inside you'll find their handwritten menus posted on craft paper as well as printed menus by the cash register. They have coffee, matcha, chai, breakfast sandwiches, paninis, and pastries. Everything here is delicious and every time I've stopped in the staff has been so friendly. On my latest visit I bought a bottle of Chai concentrate, some cowboy candy, their house Chipotle sauce, a dirty pumpkin chai with a cold foam, and the NFCC panini and they through in a little pumpkin scone as a bonus. It's alays such a treat to stop in and even better when I get to take goodies home to make more food and drinks myself with their amazing ingredients.
