    Gyro Pocket Lunch

Best gyros ever. Made fresh. Fast service. The cute little shop is a great place to stop in for a yummy lunch. Very friendly staff. Pita is great, veggies were fresh. Meat was good as well. Prices are very good.

Falafel plate with salad. Bread not pictured.

I've been going to Pauly's since 2009 and the food has never been anything but wonderful. The perfect takeout for your falafel fix.

And it seems I wasn't the only one who discovered this hidden gem. When we got here, the spot was packed inside. Despite this we ordered three different items for a sit-down experience, and still received everything within 25 minutes. I ordered the lamb shawarma wrap on one occasion, and it was love at first bite. The wrap itself was toasted to a perfect brown crisp on the outside, yet retaining softness underneath, where it encapsulated the ranch-like sauce where it mixed with the sliced lettuce, carrots, onions and tomatoes to give it a well rounded, mixed, creamy flavor of the vegetables. The lamb meat itself was the primary vehicle of salt and spice (with emphasis on the garlic), yet never being dry. All this being considered, the wrap never fell apart, and held together the entire journey. I made the mistake of ordering the lamp wrap my first go here, because the next occasion I came here, I got the chicken shawarma bowl. Although the rice, sauce, chicken and vegetables all inherited the same flavor profile as the wrap, the bowl fell wildly below my expectations as it was impossible to get a truly full bite of every single thing utilizing a small fork. Nonetheless, this is truly the spot for a reliable bite that emulates a small taste of the Middle East.

The falafel was pretty crispy and the inside was slightly moist. The tahini sauce helped elevate the falafels. I loved the chicken shwarma and the sauce that went well with the juicy chicken. The bread was toasted and very good. I enjoyed this, and would probably eat here regularly for a chicken shwarma if I lived nearby. I'd try more things if I ever pass through here again. They have some parking, not a lot. I definitely recommend the shwarma.

This was our first visit on a Saturday evening and we were glad we made reservations as it was packed yet still maintained a great atmosphere. Our male server Burak was very attentive, professional, and very friendly. We ordered the Lavash with the mixed appetizer - tabouli, Mediterranean salsa, hummus, and Haydari. Chicken and Beef Kabobs as our entrees. Their signature cocktail Istanbul Peach Martini and a glass of Autorotas Sauvignon Blanc. As always the Lavash was amazing as was the Kabobs. The Kabobs came with a scoop of white rice, potatoes and a great salad with no lettuce, just marinated tomatoes. Cucumber, onion with herbs.

I had the mixed app platter with lavash bread, cheese rolls and a cocktail (the name escapes me). The gigantic lavash and spreads were definitely the star of the show here! The bread is a perfect blend of soft and chewy with perfectly toasted bits, and the spreads were mouth watering. The haydari was our favorite, but they were all very good. We really enjoyed sitting on the outdoor patio- the cool artifacts from the old train station are a great touch. The waitress was easy to chat with and knowledgeable... I'm not certain if this is a family-run business but that was the general vibe- warm and friendly with an obvious desire to share good eats. We don't have many Mediterranean places in the area, and Anatolia really fills that void nicely. I immediately came back the next day to buy a gift card for my dad for Father's Day. I think he will really enjoy it here too!

Steak Kabob Wrap: I ordered the medium well, and it was noticeably overcooked. My colleague who ordered the medium also well agreed But regardless, the freshly grilled steak was still quite aromatic. The ingredients were all fresh; the rich and creamy hummus, the sweet and sour tomatoes, and the crisp and refreshing cucumber were all wrapped in the markouk. Markouk flatbreads are grilled daily, thin, smooth, and chewy, much better than pita or lavash in my first impression. Chicken Kabob Wrap: Their signature dish. The chicken breast was still juicy. The owner is very familiar with the whale watching boat schedule and will tell you if you have time to eat before boarding. It has a 4.9 rating on Google Maps, but the food isn't nearly as good as it seems; after all, it's just a wrap, and it probably benefits from the whale watching reputation.

I asked for the feta & tzatziki inside the wrap, not as a side so I was surprised to be charged $4 more for it since it wasn't a significant amount, like the spicy tahini inside the container. I ordered the Zeus gyro along with a side of fries. The fries came out piping hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. They were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and honestly some of the better fries I've had in a while. A great start to the meal. The gyro itself had great flavor--the ingredients were fresh, the toppings were vibrant, and the seasoning was spot on. Unfortunately, it was lukewarm when it reached the table. The taste was good enough that I kept going, but I couldn't help but think how much better it would have been served hot. A gyro with that much potential deserves to come out at full temperature, and I was disappointed that it didn't quite get there. That said, the overall experience was still positive. The friendliness of the staff and the quality of the ingredients make me believe this was probably an off moment in the kitchen. I'd definitely give them another shot because the foundation is clearly solid--and when that gyro comes out hot, I'm sure it'll be fantastic. Worth a visit, and worth trying again.

Decided to give them another try today at home for lunch because we used to love them for the first few years they were open and was hoping it was a one off. My meal was a waste and went in the trash after three bites. The pork was cold and had an "off" flavor. One bite that I dodged was pure fat (see photo), there appeared to be several of those. The rice was a bunch of congealed clumps (see other photo) . There is no nice way to say it, it was disgusting. I don't know what has changed, but it made me sad to see the quality of food had declined so much.
