Let's get straight to the point! The food was amazing!!!! We were able to see our food being made which was really fascinating... very traditionally made and am so happy to support a local business but also this type of food which I believe is so underrated and made so traditionally! Just a heads up: Inside the restaurant, it is not really a sit down restaurant as it is a small building and there is like one table. This really only means your car will smell delicious for a while Their menu also has such an array of options which is very appealing to so many foodies out their! Wish I took photos! read more

On my way to Gloucester for whale watching, this Lebanese fast food stall was right across from the pier. Markouk is the name of their special flatbread, which is interesting. Steak Kabob Wrap: I ordered the medium well, and it was noticeably overcooked. My colleague who ordered the medium also well agreed But regardless, the freshly grilled steak was still quite aromatic. The ingredients were all fresh; the rich and creamy hummus, the sweet and sour tomatoes, and the crisp and refreshing cucumber were all wrapped in the markouk. Markouk flatbreads are grilled daily, thin, smooth, and chewy, much better than pita or lavash in my first impression. Chicken Kabob Wrap: Their signature dish. The chicken breast was still juicy. The owner is very familiar with the whale watching boat schedule and will tell you if you have time to eat before boarding. It has a 4.9 rating on Google Maps, but the food isn't nearly as good as it seems; after all, it's just a wrap, and it probably benefits from the whale watching reputation. read more

Markouk Bread - Chicken Kabob Wrap - Lebanese Near Me - Gloucester, Massachusetts

Food was good. I had a kibbee ball with dip and also added another to my salad Prob won't go back because we were uncomfortable with how the boss was talking to the young girl working there. Made us uncomfortable while waiting for our order read more

I was ready for a thick, tasty eggplant baba Ganoush, and was disappointed by the one I ordered here.

Stopped by this Lebanese takeout spot and it seems like a local favorite. The food was flavorful and fresh, especially the chicken kebab wrap, which had great seasoning and a nice balance of textures. We ordered when we got there, but it seemed like several takeout orders were already in the works, so our food took close to 30 minutes. I totally understand that they're juggling multiple orders and making things fresh (like the wraps and falafel), but since the chicken seemed prepped ahead, I wish they could've assembled our wraps a bit faster for dine-in or walk-in customers. Def try this place out... maybe just call ahead next time! read more

So delicious! Must have & a must try - I could eat this every day. Call ahead and you won't be disappointed I promise. read more

I moved to Metrowest from LA and have been suffering from the lack of authentic Lebanese food in my area. Whenever I'm in Gloucester I go to Markouk to feed my cravings. Their dolmas and tabouli are to DIE for (everything else I've tried is great too but those have been so hard to find done RIGHT). read more

I'm being generous with 3 stars because I've had food from here before and it was better. This time the kafta was so hard I almost couldn't cut it and the bread was crisp at the edges and rubbery insode. Not sure I will try again. read more

Great spot for pick up and take out! My mom and I ordered as we drove to Gloucester, we should have ordered and heard the time before jumping in the car--they quoted us 40 mins, so order first, jump in the car second! :) they brought out order to the car which was super nice when it was ready. We got a bunch of things to try: -grape leaves--mom loved them -hummus -falafel dinner (w/ yummy rice, tabouli, and hummus) I loved this dish and would get it again -flatbread--muhamarra--a total standout! -chicken fatayer--not our fav, it was shredded chicken in bread and was good but not as special as the other dishes I can't wait to try this spot again, and it would make a great stop post beach if you're at good harbor! Close-ish to the beach! read more

Absolutely delicious and so fresh this place has one table and is really more of a take out place it's so worth it

Excellent bread - although they did run out - very popular. Food and salads were fresh and tasty, highly recommend this place its healthy food that tastes good. read more

Today was our first time ordering here-- If you've eaten GOOD falafel/kibbeh/baba/mousaka, AVOID THIS PLACE! I'm just visiting Gloucester and gave it a try. Where I live, I can get MUCH BETTER Lebanese from a guy with a cart on a street corner. For much less $. Everything is overpriced. Also VERY dry yet somehow soggy at the same time. Also, it seems they didn't get the memo about using spices and salt to give things flavor. this was the BLANDEST Middle eastern food I've ever tasted. We threw most of it in the trash bin. read more

Delicious food, the hummus was creamy and the bread was outstanding. The kid at the counter could use a little work on his approach towards customers in the store. I ordered ahead and came to pick it up, I was there for 8 minutes before he even addressed me, he just took phone order after phone order instead of putting them on hold for a minute. At the least he should acknowledge people actually in the establishment....and a smile wouldn't hurt either read more

My sister recommended Markouk for its amazing hummus and fresh bread baked on a unique Saj grill right in front of you. No lie, it's sublime. And the falafel and salads are as fresh as it gets. But the snafu of running out of chicken by 5:30 p.m. and the seemingly baffled counter help who could not find our order kind of ruined the experience. That and the fact that it took 45 minutes for takeout -- including looking for my lost order. Great food + bad service = meh. read more

Such a wonderful addition to the Gloucester dining options! Very happy to find lighter fare and vegetarian options that will keep you feeling good at the beach all summer. Love the falafel and other Lebanese classics. Almost feels like Sofra in Cambridge. Stop here for lunch or snacks and thank me later! Oh and the tables outside are delightful on a sunny day! read more

Best falafel I've had in years! Their hummus is always a winner too! When I'm too tired to cook I pick up the phone and call Markouk!

The food was pretty good, but this spot really needs to work on communication. We ordered falafel dinners for pickup. Upon getting home we realized we were missing the bread. I called and asked if the meals normally come with bread and they said yes, but they are out. It would have been less frustrating if someone had told us upon pickup rather than assuming we wouldn't notice or care that food was missing from our order. read more

We had an amazing lunch here! Such a wonderful gem in Gloucester. My boyfriend and I are vegetarian and we sometimes have trouble finding vegetarian options here. Markouk's food was fresh and delicious and the small restaurant has a clean and kind atmosphere as well as excellent service. We will definitely be dining here again and will offer it as a recommendation to friends in the area! read more

I was in town on a Whale watch cruise and I stopped to get a wrap before the bus was leaving. I ordered the Falafela wrap and as I was waiting inside I observed one of the cooks drop a garlic clove on the floor frorm the prep counter. She picked it up and gave it to the other prep cook where she proceeded to chop it up and include it in the food she was making. As the cook proceeded to make my falafel and was waiting for them to cook she proceeded to pick hair or some stuff off of her arms and apron before the open pots where the food was cooking. read more

If you want authentic Lebanese cuisine, this is your place! Delicious kafta and falafel sandwiches made on the Saj! The icing on the cake was the Helwi (cinnamon sugar and butter on the saj bread) which my parents said was just as good as the ones they ate as children in Lebanon. The service is very kind and they take their time preparing your order. We will definitely be back here! read more

The obvious place to begin praising what comes from this tiny kitchen in downtown Gloucester would be flavor, but let's start with texture. The markouk bread cooked on the convex griddle called a saj is thin and chewy--it's elastic in a good way, and thin like a crepe, but somehow such a perfect vehicle for all the other dishes. Then comes the kibbe, with its meat filling and nutty bulgar outside, which is somehow crisp and a little chewy all at once. Moving on to flavor: how about the savory chicken, which makes you think of Jamaican jerk, or the understated but addictive hummus and tangy baba ghanooj, not to mention the mohamara manoushie, a flatbread make with the trademark markouk bread, customized for us by adding a little zaatar--eaten folded, its flavor and texture combined to satisfy as only great Lebanese food can. Could the cooks and staff be friendlier as you wait for them to finish your order? How about the free bread added to our large group order? In a land of grumpy counter servers, indifferent heaps of fried shellfish, and middling ice cream, Markouk Bread offers something so healthy, refreshing, and delicious you will forget, if only for a moment, the dispiriting mediocrity all around you, and relish the toothsome flavors and textures of family cooking from the Middle East. read more

Very nice owners and staff. The food is amazing. 10/10 recommend. The Kibbeh and Lebanese salad are my favorites.

Delicious food, exceptionally prepared and reasonably priced. Their kafta and kebabs in particular are outstanding. I can't wait to go back and try out the whole menu. Highly recommend! read more
