I love The Oak House. Ya know how your parents always have that one restaurant they frequent more than any other, that's The Oak House for me. The food is so consistently good, the atmosphere and staff are so fun and friendly. They are so consistently good at providing vegan and vegetarian options (something that all other restaurants make out to be a real hardship even in 2025). They are so inclusive and welcoming at all times. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because they don't have an AC system. In the summer, I'd love to frequent them more often, but it's just too hot. I would prefer to order takeout and eat it in my home with A/C than go in and sweat while trying to enjoy a nice meal. It's unfortunate too cause I think they have such great summer-foods like wraps and salads. And their cocktails are so fresh and nice and always rotating! Please get air-conditioning!! read more

Another nice spot in Newmarket. Very chill scene with yummy food. I had the Gimli sandwich which was sooo delicious. Love the onion jam. My guy had the Cozy-Core Bowl which he loved, especially the gravy. We happened to be in town kinda early but the place was filling up so plan ahead if you want a table. Great vegan options here! Needed a lunch spot on the drive up to a Maine weekend and this was right on the way with really enticing-sounding stuff. We got the frylock fries, chicken sandwich, and tofu bahn mi, and loved it all. Pickup experience was a little funky (no one acknowledged me at all when I came in), but the pickup instructions were straightforward, and the food was ready at the promised time. We recently had dinner at the Oak House in Newmarket, NH- The Oak House is located right in downtown Newmarket, NH. It's a cozy spot with plenty of seating. Service was phenomenal- our server was friendly and very attentive. The food was fantastic. Highly recommend the Nachos or the K-Pop Chicken. For entrees, the Brisket Grilled Cheese was one of the best things we've had in a long time. All in all a great meal. Would highly recommend! read more

Awesome unique sandwiches and good fries. Service was exceptional and atmosphere is really cool. Came kind of early for diner so not a lot of people in the restaurant but I get the feeling this place is a cool hang out place in the evening. Next time in town will eat here again. read more

I dropped in for a late lunch and so glad I did. Really nice pub style atmosphere and very attentive servers. I ordered the brisket grilled cheese with chips and it was incredible. Chunks of brisket in sharp cheddar, with a tasty mayo on grilled sourdough! And the chips are fried on site and are delicious. I'll be back! read more

Work friends wanted food from here so we got take out. You couldn't place your order online for a future time...like order at 11 for a 1pm pickup so we all had to wait until 35 minutes before and then order. Ok. I'll deal. I have nothing else to do with my day but set timers to stop everything so I can eat at an even later time where I'll set another timer. I got chicken tenders. They were not great. Maybe burnt. Definitely dry. No flavor. I got fries. By the time I ate them they were cold. I probably would have enjoyed them when they were hot. I got chocolate cake for desert because why not. Well I'll tell you why not. It was dry. Like cut four days ago so the edges were dry. Skip this place. Maybe it's okay if you eat there but takeout wasn't good. read more

The Oak House is a definite go to place in New Market. The beer selection is rotating and we enjoyed a couple of different IPA from Loaded Question. The Miss Scoville cocktail is a must and we had a Dreamsicle that is light and goes down fast and tastes like the old Ice Cream Truck treat. The Baby Yoda is a wonderful light panini and I loved the Larry Bird fried chicken and the fact that you could get healthy salad for a side. Did steal some fries from the table and they were also great. Our server Elizabeth was attentive and friendly. Only downside is this last heat wave and a packed house the A/C just could not keep up. So maybe stay away if it is too warm, but we LOVED it. read more

The food was great; however, the service was terrible. We were seated and it took 20 to 30 minutes for someone to take our drink orders. Even after we ordered drinks, the service was spotty at best. There were five of us at the table, and we were cut off after receiving just two drinks each (beers and margaritas). Meanwhile, other patrons were served multiple drinks, and they seemed more aligned with the restaurant's atmosphere, which catered primarily to middle-aged Caucasian males and females. Our group consisted of three white men and two women, one of whom is a woman of color. When we asked if we could get another round of drinks after ordering food, we were told no. This was particularly disappointing as we were hoping to catch up with friends and have a good time. It felt like a very discriminatory experience. read more

Excellent, creative food and service. We got the Seoul fries, the brisket grilled cheese, and my husband got a burger with kimchi and bacon. Everything was excellent. We didn't get drinks this time around, but the drink menu looked just as creative and delicious as the rest. We'll definitely be back next time we're hiking up in this area! read more

Nope. Go somewhere else where, food was extremely greasy. The service took an abnormal amount of time to even acknowledge us as we waited 15 minutes. Go somewhere else in Newmarket to spend your money. read more

We were driving to Maine on a Friday & decided to skip the crowds in Portsmouth & go off 95. The Oak House was recommended for its vegan options on Happy Cow & it delivered. I had the Frito Pie & my husband had the vegan hot dogs. Both meals were delicious. My only complaint is that I wish there were more toppings than fries in my dish. Service was quick & friendly. Easy street parking. Next time we'll be sure to leave room for the vegan desserts! read more

Passing through Exeter to North Conway, stopped here for dinner. Wow! Definitely worth writing home about. The restaurant itself was super cute, good music playing and the waiters were attentive and nice. Food: The food was amazing. As someone with a gluten allergy, vegetarian, and food restrictions relating to autism, this restaurant had options I could choose from. My partner got a cuban grilled cheese and loved it. I got the nachos, and they were wicked good! Probably the best nachos I've had at a restaurant. Service: Amazing. Everyone was really kind and efficient. The server I had was patient and understanding of my gluten allergy, and made sure that the option I had selected contained gluten or not. Ambiance: Not over-stimulating. The vibes of the place were perfect, from lights and decor to the music. Overall, this place has wicked good food, amazing staff, and cool vibes. Stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday evening. ordered a Cuban Sandwich and side of fries. The sandwich consisted of 3 items, bacon, pulled pork and melted cheese. It was terrible, bacon that you couldn't bite through and the pork was almost missing, barely enough to cover the bread, and the rest was cheese. $18.00 The fries looked like they were leftovers from someone else's plate, most were little bits and pieces. Learned a lesson, last visit. Hopefully this review will save you from wasting your money and let you make a different choice for food. read more

Pricey, but excellent. Both the meat and meatless offerings were well-made and flavorful, the menu is interesting and the service was great. Atmosphere was enjoyable, with enough space that noise levels weren't bad. Portion sizes (e.g. poutine, with its almost nonexistent gravy and smaller plate) left me a bit unsatisfied, but the flavors were so good, it was hard to overly mind. Some of the food had more kick than expected, which is a double-edged sword. I had to eat in a certain order, so as to have functional taste buds left for the milder fare. And I found something to like on the beer menu, which was nice. No, my only real complaint here is the steep prices. If the cost had been modestly less, or the food had been more plentiful, this would have been a five star review. Back to the poutine, as a concrete example...many other places would have doubled the size for $9, and I don't want to be thinking about that multiple times in my dining experience. If you're loaded, or simply don't care, it will be a nonissue for you, and it's nothing but upside. read more

What a nice surprise. We have been by this place many times and finally stopped in for a light dinner. First off, the young man who was hosting was the absolute best at this. Welcoming and considerate. He was apologetic that we had to wait and the wait wasn't bad at all. Then the waitress was also fantastic. Fun and friendly and so helpful with the menu. And the menu is great! Imaginative and lots for vegetarians and vegans. (Probably the best for vegans around here that I have seen.) My husband is a poutine fan and always judges it by Canadian fare. He thought it was great. I had one of the best veggie burgers I have had around here. Made there with white beans and it was plump! Not a frozen skinny thing. With help from the waitress, I chose the Krang Burger topped with thai peanut sauce, tempeh bacon, carrot, cucumber, grilled peppers and onions, and sweet chili sauce and it was delicious. Had a side salad--very fresh. They were having their weekly $3 off a glas of wine night and has a few good choices. The prices are reasonable, too. We plan to be regulars. read more

Yummy food and great service. Ordered brisket grilled cheese sandwich, bufallo smoked wings, truffle fries, and koritto fries. The sandwich was delicious with big amount of brisket. Both fries truffle and koritto were delicious too, especially the koritto with pulled pork. The smoked wings was the best, the best bufallo sauce I ever had. The pricing here seems fair. They offer a happy hour menu (4pm-6pm) and late night menu (10pm-12am). A little grit to this one to deliver dry spices as well as liquid, and a noticeable amount of heat that complemented nicely. A joy to view and a joy to eat. -- Mango Habanero Hot Wings: Tried on the second visit, as a combo with onion rings and split with an eating buddy. More technical perfection and similar praise for the sauce, which balances sweet and heat nicely. Even nicer was a little garnish of mango on top. Like the Nashville Hot, these were superb. (And if you check my other reviews, you'll see that I don't go throwing around compliments and 5-star reviews to just anyone.) -- Onion Rings: A frozen product, but crisp, not greasy, and seasoned. Not seafood shack or roast beef joint quality, but good for what it was. -- Coleslaw: A larger-than-expected serving with an unexpected flavor. Crisp, creamy, but with a certain something or somethings that begged for more forkfuls. Seeds (I think caraway) and fruit (cranberries and apples) added oomph and a floral component. If I didn't have plans after, I'd have bought more to take home. Friendly, hands-on owner who puts his heart and soul into the food, from the presentation (including a stainless steel bone dish and plastic gloves) to the pinpoint technical excellence of the wings (nailed the crisp, the juiciness, the right amount of sauce) to the creativity (the mango garnish; apples and cranberries in the coleslaw). Maaz's Chicken serves up fried chicken, sandwiches, gyros, burgers, rice platters, fried seafood, appetizers, salads, desserts, and cooler drinks (Pepsi products/Gatorade). The prices here seem reasonable. I stopped by Maaz's Chicken for lunch and dinner on Grand Opening Day when they were giving out free lunch (selected items) and 50 percent off the menu all day. The place was very busy with a line out the door. The owner had a DJ playing music near the entrance and chatting with customers. The owner is from Rhode Island and actually works across the border in Mass. The owner was looking for a place to open a chicken restaurant and chose Franklin, NH since it's a good area, bypassing Franklin, MA (for now) much closer to Bellingham, MA and Rhode Island. The lunch line was very busy and I eventually got up to the counter and ordered the Chicken Sandwich and 2 pc Fried Chicken with Fries and can of Diet Pepsi and strawberry Hood Ice Cream for dessert, all complementary for lunch. The chicken sandwich was big with a thick breaded buffalo tender with lettuce & mayo, pretty good. The shoestring fries were decent and the fried chicken had a nice crispy salty coating on the outside. I decided I would return later for dinner takeout. I returned for dinner takeout several hours later and the place was getting slammed with the line almost to the door. I ordered a bunch of food including a Beef Gyro ($8.99 plus tax), 6 Mozzarella Sticks ($6.25 plus tax), Chicken Over Rice Platter ($10.99 plus tax) and a 2 Pc Tilapia with Fries & Slaw ($11.99 plus tax). With the Grand Opening Discount, my total with tax was $20.83. After ordering, there was another line of customers waiting to pick up their food after paying. I waited about 16 minutes for my big order to be all set. They did run out of cole slaw and let me substitute Banana Pudding which is normally the same price as cole slaw ($2.99 plus tax). I checked my order before leaving and everything was there. I enjoyed my big dinner back at the office and the portions of food were generous. The Chicken Over Rice Platter was excellent, which had firm seasoned rice topped with marinated hot chicken pieces, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, white sauce. The Beef Gyro was overflowing with beef gyro meat, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and a house dressing in a soft warm thick wrap. The Mozzarella Sticks were standard and came with marinara dipping sauce. The 2 Pc Tilapia with Fries was comprised of 2 good size fried tilapia filets with a seasoned breading and a pile of shoestring fries, tartar sauce was provided too. The Banana Pudding was sweet and topped with Nilla Wafer cookies. Overall, I was able to try a variety of foods here at Maaz's Chicken including the grand opening lunch and discounted dinner food. The fried chicken though crispy outside was very salty and dry, probably due to the volume of customers ordering the same thing. The fries at lunch time were not very hot (staff trying to serve the masses at lunch) and the fries I got with my tilapia dinner were hot and firm. The Chicken Over Rice Platter and Beef Gyro were excellent and my favorites of the day. This rating is based on the dinner takeout (4.5/5.0) and not on the grand opening lunch.
