Gross ball of overcooked rice pilaf.
Von D.

Ordered Gyro Spot not too long ago for a work meeting, and there were all sorts of things left out and incorrect items added to meals. Decided to give them another try today at home for lunch because we used to love them for the first few years they were open and was hoping it was a one off. My meal was a waste and went in the trash after three bites. The pork was cold and had an "off" flavor. One bite that I dodged was pure fat (see photo), there appeared to be several of those. The rice was a bunch of congealed clumps (see other photo) . There is no nice way to say it, it was disgusting. I don't know what has changed, but it made me sad to see the quality of food had declined so much.

Food was fantastic! I tried the Lamb & Beef Gyro and my son had the "Zeus" gyro which is basically all the meat. He loved it. Know that they stuff a few fries INSIDE the gryo wrap - and not 'on the side'. Interesting. The dill sauce is tasty, too. The atmosphere is lacking. Simple and very very basic. You can totally see the kitchen and prep, which is not something to really see (messy and seems a little dirty). This restaurant is really for eat and go, no lingering. Would go back. The food was good!

Today, I had the chicken gyro. The pita is so soft and delicious. The meat is tender and flavorful. We also had the beef and lamb bowls filled with rice. Located on Main Street w street parking. Definitely worth a stop in!!

Baklava. Meh.

Did I go to the same place? I did not enjoy my meal, and did not finish it. That's rare for me. It was just too dry and flavorless. Maybe it's a go-to for certain crowds at certain times of night (I've certainly loved such places in my past), or maybe I caught them on an off night. Maybe not, who knows, I'm just struggling to reconcile my experience with the incredible rating on Yelp. I ended up buying more snacks elsewhere. I also did not finish the baklava...it was so disappointing. If I had inspected it more closely I probably would have not bought it, as it doesn't fully resemble what I'm used to for baklava. I see raving over it here...did I get a bad batch of this too? Where are all the delicate layers? Why isn't it sweeter?

Solid gyro, had the chicken one, very tasty. The fries are definitely over priced and not much to them. Id recommend the combo with the gyro!!!!

Rice pilaf with beef and chicken gyro meat

This was my first time visiting this location and I thought it was pretty good for the value. I had a rice bowl with chicken/beef gyro meat and all the normal toppings. The ingredients tasted fresh and had good flavor. The location itself could use a little updating and maybe add some character so it's a little more inviting, otherwise no complaints!

The Gyro Spot logo art. It just looked cool.

The rice bowl is so good - sauce is so tasty! Love how you can combine different meats in one bowl.

Really good food! Staff is pleasant. The location can be a bit of a challenge but it's worth it for the food.

This was our first visit on a Saturday evening and we were glad we made reservations as it was packed yet still maintained a great atmosphere. Our male server Burak was very attentive, professional, and very friendly. We ordered the Lavash with the mixed appetizer - tabouli, Mediterranean salsa, hummus, and Haydari. Chicken and Beef Kabobs as our entrees. Their signature cocktail Istanbul Peach Martini and a glass of Autorotas Sauvignon Blanc. As always the Lavash was amazing as was the Kabobs. The Kabobs came with a scoop of white rice, potatoes and a great salad with no lettuce, just marinated tomatoes. Cucumber, onion with herbs.

The dining room is nice, a bit quirky as it is an old train station. Our waitress was pleasant and was happy to answer any questions we had. Food from the kitchen was a tad slow, but it was a Saturday night and they were slammed. We were told we had to order the bread with the assortment of cold appetizer spreads and that really was fantastic. Piping hot bread, huge and an assortment of 4 dishes to go with it. All were tasty, especially the hummus. This alone is worth the journey to find this place. I had the lamb kofte, which are flattened meatballs usually cooked like a kebob. I was served a large portion and they tasted delicious, plenty to bring home. The other diners with me enjoyed their chicken kabob, falafel and kabob wrap. We thought the prices were fair for such generous portions. We will try again if in the area. Give this place a try if you have been sitting on the fence like me.

I used to frequent Mediterrano in Hillsboro, NH, and absolutely loved it. When the restaurant…read morechanged ownership and then unfortunately closed during COVID, I was genuinely disappointed. About a year later, I found myself craving authentic Mediterranean food again, so I started searching for restaurants around New Hampshire. That's when I came across Ayasofia. As I looked through the menu and photos, everything seemed so familiar--it reminded me of the dishes I had loved at Mediterrano. The next day, my husband and I decided to drive an hour to Salem to try it out, and it was completely worth it. After speaking with the owner, we learned that Mediterrano had actually been owned by a member of his family and that they use the same recipes. It all made perfect sense! The owner was incredibly warm and welcoming, even encouraging us to return and meet his mother, who taught him these recipes. I highly recommend the hummus, baba ghanoush, salsa, and grape leaves--they're all fantastic. Be sure to order the lavash bread on the side, as it pairs perfectly with everything. For a main course, the adana lamb kebab is a must-try. Everything tastes incredibly fresh and full of flavor. I only wish I could cook like this--I'd happily eat Mediterranean food every single day!

My husband was particularly excited by how the rice was made. The grape leaves were good and the dinners came with the red cabage and salad. Delicious. I also got the Raki, because I was having Turkish food, but all the cocktails sounded very good. We did not sit in the bar, but they sounded like they were having the time of their lives in there. At one point Rod Stewart came on over the speakers and you could hear them shouting "ROD!!!" I was like, shit - Turkish food AND the regulars love Rod Stewart? Sign me up! If we lived anywhere near here, we'd be back.
