I know everyone and their mother is obsessed with Paula's Donuts, but I'm just not the hugest fan. Trust me, I know it's me not them. I do appreciate the huge variety of flavors they have, but no matter what type I've tried, they've still just tasted like donuts to me. I guess my lack of enthusiasm is ok since Paula's opened up right across the street from me, in Clarence and I could walk there. I went in for the first time this Sunday with my mom. The place is clean, with a lot of tables and a counter with 50's diner style stools, lining the room. They offer a few specials which I think are very reasonable-- I capitalized on the large coffee and bagel with cream cheese for $3 and change. The coffee was great and the bagel was great too... But that leads me to my two complaints about this place. Actually, 3 complaints: 1. The layout of the place leaves the front door open right into the room. Not a big deal in the summer, but in this frigid weather, every time that door opened (and it was a lot!) more cold air came in. I actually sat there with my coat on the whole time and was freezing. 2. The logistics of the counter where you order and pay is directly in front go the donuts, so you have to bob and weave around all the employees to see what they have. That being said there were plenty employees available to take orders, so even when it was crowded, the line moves fast. 3. My final complaint falls on the shoulders of managers and owners...the young girls working there either did not have their hair tied back, or tied back well enough. One girl had two low ponytails that were no better than having hair down and I watched a few of them have their hair hanging right into food. Yeah that great bagel I mentioned above? Had a nice long black hair in it. I'm no germ phobe, and obviously ate the bagel after I pulled the hair off, but that is something that makes me not want to go back. Careless and sloppy appearances I'm sure my pancreas thanks me for not being in love with Paula's Donuts, but I will probably return for their coffee and bagel (minus the hair!) read more

I read about Paula's in a review somewhere that stated it was one of the best in NY. Now, I can't eat any other donut in my neighborhood. Luckily, it's about an hour out from where I am, otherwise I'd be rolling my way there. So good! Quality ingredients for sure. The filled donuts are not just the usual excessively cornstarch thickened sugary kind, but there's lots of real flavor which makes you feel like you are getting more than a sugar high. And their donuts don't leave that cheap and overused oil film on your tongue. If you are counting calories, starve a day so you can eat these. All their donuts are great. We told the server to give us a random assortment and every single one was delicious! (We had help eating these.) Two thumbs and eight fingers up! So mad at myself for forgetting to take photos. I guess I have to return. LOL. Favorites--cannoli and strawberry-filled, btw. Also, if you buy their beautiful red mugs, don't dry heat in the dishwasher. The heat makes them peel. read more

BINGED. Mom brought home a dozen donuts from Paula's on Sunday morning. We opened the box and dug in, chopping at and sampling each donut until we could each identify a favorite... The aftermath was a mess. There were no favorites, they were ALL amazing!!!! My favorite of this particular box though was the jelly-filled powdered donut... How in the world does Paula get that donut to reflect a perfect, soft, moist, heavenly pillow filled with sweet, full-bodied raspberry jelly?! It was literally the best donut I've ever had in my life. All that Krispy Kreme hype of the late-90's/early 2000's has nothing on these donuts. Like negative nothing actually... doesn't even compare to the amazingness of Paula's Donuts, my friends. She also bought some bagels- all they had left was plain and cinnamon raisin. The plain bagels were awesome. Crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside when toasted. Only thing is, they weren't as good the second day. Then again, I wouldn't buy day-old donuts, so I'm sure the same rule should apply to day-old bagels. read more

The. Best. Donuts. Ever. I have been here multiple times and I have never been disappointed. Every donut is incredible. I don't think I could pick a favorite. I decided to finally write my review after my latest experience a few weeks ago... My sister and I walked in to grab donuts for a brunch we were having the next day. We know that the donuts keep well overnight so we decided to pick them up the night before. When we got up to the case we noticed that they didn't have very many options. I could only assume it was because it was around 7 pm. The girls who were working said they could make most of the donuts in a matter of minutes. All we had to do was tell her which ones we wanted and she would fill and frost them. Each donut is a bite of Heaven. Any of the donuts with filling are so heavy. The fillings are more generous than you find at other competitors. One of the donuts is more than enough. I will continue to feed my donut cravings at Paula's Donuts. I have a thing for cream filled donuts. This not an exaggeration- I am currently wearing a sweatshirt from Dot's Bakery in Ocean City, NJ, the home of my favorite donuts. Like Paula's, Dot's has a near perfect rating and people claiming that they are the best donuts on earth. Like Paula's, for some of us, our obsession with Dot's is probably 2 parts taste and 1 part nostalgia. So, I get it, Paula's die hard fans. I really, really do. But at the end of the day, every time I have had Paula's donuts, I have felt that they are "A-Ok." No more, no less. The Angel Creams of legend do have a great cream to donut ratio, but I find the flavor of the cream a bit lacking. I need a little more sweetness when I am devouring half a day's worth of calories in a neatly stuffed pastry. I still need to coffee to counteract the sugar crash, but my teeth don't hurt, and where's the fun in that? So, I am not trying to tell you that Buzzfeed is leading you astray with their 33 Donuts You Have to Have Before You Die (I mean, their list of 24 signs you are secretly an old person was pretty spot on.) But if you aren't blown away, you aren't alone. Now I need to go take a nap... and maybe go to the gym. read more

I can't imagine anyone not giving this place 5 stars because the donuts are out of this world! First off, yes you will pay more for a dozen donuts than you would at some cheesy chain, but the quality and quantity of what you get makes it absolutely worth the price. The first time you hold one of Paula's donuts in your hands it makes you think "Whoa!" because they are just so hefty. The filled donuts are absolutely stuffed to the brim and all the ingredients are top notch. I'm conflicted about living 45 minutes away from the shop because, while I don't go as often as I like, if it was closer, I know I could not stay away. So yummy in the tummy. Paula's was first opened in a little shop on Kenmore Ave. After people starting noticing the god like creations coming out of it, it got too small for the demand. So last summer Paula's packed up and moved to a nice big location. For the amount of joy you get (I can eat 2 or 3 Tim hortons donuts, whereas I can barely finish one Paula's donut) you pay almost nothing. I think a dozen donuts here is something like 5 or 6 bucks. That will easily cover a family. If you are feeling really ambitious, go and get a Texas Giant. These baby's are like donuts on steroids. You cannot eat one at once, you have to share, or risk spontaneous combustion. My personal favorites are the jelly filled. Mmmmmmmmmm. Thank you Paula's. You have brought joy to all of us. Let me start off by saying Paulas donuts is the best little donut shop you can come to in Buffalo the donuts at Paulas are definitely very filling so if I were you I would think twice about ordering two. I'm 90% sure Paulas donuts is more of a local shop then a big franchise like Dunkin' Donuts but this place is definitely much more homey the decorations are not very classy The reason I'm only giving it three stars is because sometimes the donuts are a little too filling but still Paulas donuts is OK but not necessarily always having to get a doughnut you could always pick up a bag of that as well. read more

It's donuts, I'm not gonna give it a bad review. I love me some deep fried cake, that is the kind of thing I'd get diabetes for and only half regret it. Came here this morning because when I told my primary care physician I have gained 10 lbs since coming to Buffalo because of peanut donuts, instead of telling me I'm fat he told me where to go get the best donuts. But then in my office visit summary, he passive aggressively laid out in ever paragraph that he told me to lay off the donuts and walk more. I digress... Paula's Donuts! Yum Yum! I got two peanut donuts, an angel cream chocolate frosted, some apple fritter type, a sour cream glazed and a red velvet. The peanut donut is HUGE, it's more like a peanut brick. But that is one tasty donut! I ate half of it and felt satisfied, and my toddler ate some of it too and loved it. I cut up some sour cream glazed for him too, he liked that as well but seemed to prefer the peanut. I tried the sour cream, it was not my thing. It tasted like bad grease to me. I also tried the red velvet and it did nothing for me. I love red velvet cake but maybe it's because I love cream cheese frosting so a plain donut with no cream cheese frosting didn't really seem like red velvet to me? My husband had the apple one and made no complaints, so I'm guessing he enjoyed it. Saving the angel cream one for later. I really liked the peanut bricks so I'll probably be back for that but now I know my toddler and myself can easily share one donut and neither of us will feel ripped off. I don't know if I'd say Paula's has the BEST donuts but they are still mighty good and we'll be back. read more

I love this place. My parents took me here for one trip when I was still living in MN. It was like donuts heaven. So many options that were fresh. Now, we are over run with a chain donut shop around Buffalo but Paula's puts them all to shame. Everything is fresh and constantly being replenished as everyone walks out with a box full of goodness. Have you ever had a cheese glazed donut? Neither did I until I met Paula's Donuts. It's like a little slice of heaven with sugar all over it. My favorite of all time is the Peanut Cream - it's covered in peanuts held on by glaze with a creamy center that leaves each bite to have some. It is the perfect balance of sugar and peanuts. It's worth the trip and there are now 2! location in WNY. All the more reason to stop by. read more

We had Paula's Donuts as our late night snack at our wedding. They were the little donut holes. We ordered ~200 for a crowd of 100, which turned out to be a perfect number, as we still had a handful leftover at the end of the night. They have a delivery option if you aren't able to pick up and deliver to your venue the day of the wedding -they hire Foxy Delivery for ~$15 to deliver. You give them the time and location and they'll drop off. This worked out well for us! And guests loved having Paula's! Would do this again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend for events! read more

Paula's offers the bests donuts I have ever tasted, they are absolutely perfect. I buy a few dozen donuts for the office each week and my co-workers are absolutely hooked on them. Employees start work an hour or two early just for the chance of getting their pick of the donuts each week. They are that good! I cannot recommend one specific donut because they are all amazing. That said, the peanut and jelly donut, the butter cream filled donuts, the red velvet, and apple fritters are routinely fought over. A dozen donuts costs $9.00 at Paula's, that is $2.00 more than Tim Horton's and Dunkin' Donuts, but it is worth every penny. These donuts are in a class of their own. One point of concern is the line often extends out the door and into the parking lot on certain holidays. The day before Thanksgiving, the first day of school, last day of work before vacation, election day, etc. Get there early to avoid the rush on these days. read more

The donuts here are large, the size of a softball. Paula's was only established in 1996, but these are old school donuts. And not in a bad way. I asked for a box of the ones with fillings and toppings, but I got a couple plain ones too. The Boston cream was the first one I ate. Ok - it's a very strong 3, but I cannot go higher. The place had plenty of parking spots, but everything else was just ok. The selection may have been large, but that came with a hefty price for donuts that just didn't compare to others I've had. The peanut one is certainly large, but it seemed a bit dried out in the center - perhaps too big for the flavor. Went for the first time on Monday. This is a truly American doughnut shop. The service and the products were excellent. I tried the red velvet and Apple fritter doughnuts. Both the Paula's locations offer great donuts, along with fast, efficient, and friendly service. Even on a busy Friday morning on the day before Valentine's Day, you can get served quickly and on your way with no hassle. The selection is great, but the best choice is the angel cream donut: white filling and chocolate frosting. One will wake you up quite nicely, while two will keep you going for the rest of the day. The apple cinnamon ones are also good, and the plain glazed also have a classic donut taste. Is Paula's expensive? At $11 a dozen, they are not cheap, but the donuts are larger than the ones you find at the chain places. It takes two boxes to hold a dozen of Paula's offerings. Sometimes restaurants disguise poor quality food by supersizing it, but such is not the case here. And you can save money by going to their web site and downloading coupons. Also, checking it at Yelp or Facebook will give you some savings. Today my Yelp check-in gave me two free donuts when buying a dozen. With 14 donuts on hand, we will not need more for a while. Paula's Donuts is a Buffalo staple. Staff is always friendly and, at times when the line is soooooo long, speedy. They do have great donuts. The red velvet is my fav and a must have. There are some flavors that I don't particularly care for, however I think that's just my own personal choice. I'm glad they are expanding so the rest of Buffalo can see what they have to offer. I've eaten at the Kenmore Avenue location for YEARS so I just had to try Paula's in their new digs. Man! This place was hoppin' this past Sunday morning. The line was practically out the door! And this new place is HUGE! Lots of tables as well as the requisite (in my opinion for a donut shop) counter to sit at. I must admit that since in the past I wasn't all that impressed with Paula's coffee (plain old Joe brewed in a Bunn coffee pot) that I snuck in my own from another place. But upon entering I saw a whole menu of "Yupp-i-fied" coffees like lattes and mochas and the like... next time. But the reason I came, of course, was for the DELICIOUS DONUTS. And, I wasn't disappointed! All the super varieties as in the original location (peanut butter and jelly, angel cream, red velvet....) Crazy good stuff..... as well as the standard fry-cakes and crullers. But just done BETTER, FRESHER, and with MORE SOUL than the big-box homogenized donut shops that one finds in neighborhoods everywhere. read more

Old fashioned tasting donuts, YAY! Not the over proofed, full of cheap fill, some other shops serve! I went online first and was looking for the more artistic donuts they show on their website but did not see any when I stopped in to try them. They are compact and heavy and are not greasy, as far as donuts go. The height appears to be extra high and they are beautiful and very delicious. I bit into a white cream and was astounded that half the doughnut is stuffed with filling. Worth every penny of 90 cents apiece. I saw a special on their menu.... Buy four coffees and get four free donuts! Customer service = Very, very good. There were two cash drawers and three people helping to take orders to keep things moving. There is a long counter with more of those lovely red leather stools, to sit on, and I saw a couple tables. This will be the place the next time I want some donuts for company.
