Paula's Donuts helped heal me after surgery - seriously. But first, a few words about the best donuts in the United States. I feel confident that statement is true. These are not featherweight, boring, drive thru chain donuts that never fail to disappoint. The box says they are "made with love" and while I certainly hope the bakers and makers are not oozing affection for the creations as they do their job (because that would get weird right?), the recipes and standards of ultra high quality that this unique WNY establishment has sure shows a respect and appreciation for their customers. The dough is light and never greasy tasting. The cream fillings are also fluffy and airy and melt in your mouth. Jellies are all top notch and let me be clear, the donuts are packed full with whatever is inside. Or on top. The headlights are incredible. Peanut butter offerings (several to choose from) are stellar. I'm not sure if the chocolate icing is a ganache but it seems much more like a ganache than the lousy, dried out icing you might find at places we need not mention. Staff are always courteous, polite and fast. I think each donut is going for about $2.30 but well worth it for the size and quality. A box of 3 is heavy to hold. You get a lot of donut for your buck. I've been on a Paula's kick for a couple months, stopping in when appropriate for my donut desires but trying to be mindful of my waistline. I like to sit down and really enjoy every bite. These are not ordinary donuts, they are an experience to savor. But how do Paula's donuts help one recover from surgery? It's about what you might do with them. My friend picked me up and brought me home after the hospital and slyly produced a bag of donuts for me, which I sat down and ate the minute I walked in the door. The unexpected gesture of something I've been enjoying a lot lately certainly took my mind off any discomfort. Nice friend, right? Part of recovery is having supportive friends and family and I'm glad I've got that. And I'm glad I also got a bag of donuts to make a "rough day" a lot better. My husband ordered us breakfast from here this morning, and it was great! I tried the cookies and cream ice cappuccino, and it had the perfect balance of flavors. wow, Wow, WOW, WOOWOWW! I ate a lot of delicious things on my trip to Buffalo and Niagara, but if there is one place I could rip up by the foundations and move straight to North Carolina, it would be Paula's Donuts. I originally discovered this place when writing an article for Yelp about the top 25 most unique donuts in the US. In my research, i discovered they have a CANNOLI DONUT. I have wanted one since... just never had occasion to be in Buffalo. Well I finally made it. I finally had it. And it was everything I wanted it to be, maybe more! There was so much delicious cannoli filling in that donut, I had trouble finishing it. When you order a cannoli donut, it is filled to order, which I love. They keep the cannoli filling nice and cool by filling it after, creating this refreshing, sweet, chocolate chippy center juxtaposed by this dream of a donut. We also had a raspberry filled donut. No fake syrup here, this is raspberry jam. When cutting it in half, none of it leaked out, it stayed perfectly inside. Nice raspberry flavor. What I loved about Paula's, was the texture of the donut. Not greasy at all, puffy, yet still somewhat dense. The dough has a pull to it, like it's somewhere between a cake donut and a traditional donut. It tears as opposed to biting cleanly. It was wonderful. I left convinced that I'd be perfectly content with just a plain glazed, it was so satisfying. If and when I make it back to the area, this will certainly be a priority stop, maybe every single day. Or I'll just have to get a box to keep in my hotel, on demand. Stopped in to grab a doughnut and a breakfast sandwich and I really enjoyed my sausage egg and cheese sandwich. You have a few different cheeses to choose from and since they run daily specials, the day I went in every breakfast sandwich came with a free donut so I got a honey dip doughnut as well. I was so excited to try their cannoli donut! You have to it when you get there, it's made fresh. There are so many donuts to try. We ended up getting the cannoli and a bunch of minis to give them all a taste. Well the anticipation fell very short. For being a famous cannoli donut it tasted cream cheese with chips inside. This location is a solid choice if you're a Paula's Donuts fan. I do really appreciate the ability to put an order in online and know that it's going to be ready when I get there to pick it up. I know that's a pretty basic ask, but I still appreciate it when a business is able to do that well. Getting in and out of the parking lot can sometimes be a little tricky depending on traffic but if you're driving in that neck of the woods, you pretty much know how to handle Sheridan. I don't usually have issues with parking although on busy days sometimes you're a little further away. The staff is always friendly and there are places to sit. A little bit high energy for me in terms of the number of people coming in and out when I'm looking for a place to chill, but if you're looking for that kind of vibe and energy, a great choice. Absolutely Heartbroken and Outraged - A Birthday Ruined I am absolutely devastated by how I was treated today at Paula's Donuts. Today is my son's birthday, and all he wanted was his favorite donut -- the honey dip from Paula's. My best friend went to pick them up, and when they got here, they were old fashioned, not honey dip. I was on the phone with her while she placed the order, so I know what was said. I called the store immediately to try and resolve the mix-up -- the donuts had been bought less than 10 minutes earlier, and the store had only just opened! When I explained what happened, the woman on the phone asked for a receipt. I told her we didn't have one, but the purchase had just happened. She abruptly hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak with a manager. I was told the manager was too busy to come to the phone, but that I could bring the donuts back in to exchange them. I thought that was the end of it. But then -- to my complete shock -- a police officer showed up at my door saying that Paula's no longer wanted me to return to their store. I'm still trying to process it. I wasn't yelling, I wasn't rude, I simply wanted to speak to someone about how I was treated. Even the officer apologized to me, saying he didn't understand why it escalated like this. Now I've been banned from a place I used to visit three times a week -- all over a mistake they made. To top it off, my young son had to witness this on his birthday. No favorite donut. No special treat. Just confusion and stress. This was supposed to be a happy morning, and instead it turned into something traumatic -- all because a business refused to take responsibility and treated a loyal customer like a problem to get rid of. I Had a chance to visit this particular location when we were visiting buffalo. I would say i like the quality of their donuts. We bought a half dozen box but only got to try the honey dip one and everyone else ate the rest. The consistent flow of customers as well when i was there say a lot about the reputation of the store. The price though is a little bit on the high side. Each donut is 2. Once in a while probably is not bad. The store also can use a little bit of organizing and cleaning. I came to Paula's for the first time today. I've had their donuts before and cannot complain about them, they are delicious and very worth it! Although today I came in and ordered a Sausage, Egg, and Cheese breakfast sandwich and a Strawberry Banana smoothie. The smoothie was amazing, hit the spot. The breakfast sandwich, on the other hand, was missing the egg. I realized this after I had gotten home so I couldn't just go back. The community does not tolerate unexcused behavior like this to call the cops on her for making a mistake on her order and ruining her son's birthday. The young woman who hung up the phone on her, likely called the police due to the fact, she knew she was going to get in trouble and did not want to so she made a lie. why would the woman come get her donuts exchanged and then have the police called on her? This is making absolutely no sense she got her correct order. Why would she threaten you and do you have proper camera footage? Because the police seemed very confused as well.
