Mentai Cream Japanese Style. Cream sauce w/cod roe & mushrooms
doug s.

First timer. Arrive at 5:15p on a Saturday and the place was already filling up. Only one tiny table for 2 available. 2 four tops still open but those are saved for larger parties. At that time the counter was wide open with around 12 seats available so we chose the counter. Within a few minutes all tables were filled and 2 more couples at that counter. Point being this place seems to be very popular. Very friendly staff with helpful recommendations. We settled on the Traditional Bolognese with Eggplant $21 (top 5 most popular per our server) and the Mentai Cream $22 (top 3). The most popular is their Uni $28. I sorta regret not getting the Uni as I could've compared it to Unico's. The first few bites of my Mentai were a bit surprising. The cod roe was very salty and there was a little spicyness that I wasn't expecting. I'm guessing they only use small spaghetti noodles in their dishes which isn't the end of the world. I'm sure it helps them deliver dishes from kitchen to table efficiently as our meals arrived relatively quick despite the rush of customers. I polished off all of my dish but would try something different if I return. The Bolognese was more my style and I was lucky I got to enjoy a few bites as the portions were big for lighter appetites. Decor was casual and there were several tables with young kids. Only one table tucked in the corner accommodates about 6 with several 4 tops and 2 tops. Also plenty of counter spots. The flavors were good, service was friendly & efficient. Busy spot so plan accordingly. They have a tablet to check in when it's full. We arrived with the first wave so walked right in. Final thought: Is Japanese style pasta that popular? There's 3 Japanese pasta spots within 3 miles. (Haven't tried the place inside Tokyo Central yet. It's in the same parking lot)

I loved my food and I can't wait to be back! My friend and I had the creamy crab gratin (appetizer - I recommend), mentai cream Japanese style (my favorite) and salmon spinach cream sauce. I left wanting to try everything else on their favorites list. They give you a dinner roll + butter + house salad per person to start.

Stopped by on a Thursday night @ around 7pm and there was no wait time! Had a pleasant surprise with all of our dishes!! Workers were extremely nice. It is a little hot in there. Mentai Cream pasta: 8/10 the flavor is insane it's so good and creamy yet light at the same time. Not too salty. Would've given it a perfect score but I love my protein so I wish there was something else added in other than cod roe and mushrooms. Tomato Cream sauce: 7/10 simple dish by the name but the flavor was exceptional. Sauce is a little sweet, but surprisingly it worked well. The pasta to shrimp ratio was off for my bf, only served w 6 pieces of shrimp. Crab Gratin: 9/10 delicious I wish there was a bigger serving

I came here on a Friday night with some friends. It is a relatively small restaurant and it was very busy. Luckily we didn't need to wait. The staff were nice and friendly. I got the bacon and mushroom with Gorgonzola cream sauce. I enjoyed this dish and they had big pieces of bacon. Your meal also comes with bread and salad. Pasta is al dente. I would come back and would like to try some of their other pasta dishes.

I've always wanted to try the location in Little Tokyo but was always so intimidated by the parking. Definitely not a problem here! Pasta e Pasta is in the same huge plaza as Best Buy and Tokyo Central. The dining space is a bit small, so the wait can get pretty long during peak meal time. We went at 5:30 PM on Sunday as a party of 2, and were lucky enough to be seated at a table immediately. There's also an option for counter seating. By the time we were done eating, a pretty long line had formed so we were glad we opted for an early dinner. Each pasta entree comes with warm bread and a small salad as an appetizer. We decided on sharing the Uni Pasta ($28) as well as the Mentai Cream Japanese Style Pasta ($22). After ordering, our dishes came out in about 15 minutes, and they were able to bring us some small sharing plates as well. Both of the dishes were so tasty! The Uni Pasta was slightly more mellow whereas the Mentai Cream was a bit saltier. The pasta noodles soaked up the sauce well but still had the perfect amount of chew and bite to it. My favorite of the two would be the Uni Pasta, as the Mentai Cream had a stronger ocean-y taste. However, they complement each other well, and I would recommend sharing dishes so that you can taste a little of everything! The ambiance was lively but intimate, and the dishes were presented beautifully. Service was kind and efficient, and the staff welcomes and thanks everyone that enters/leaves. One of my main critiques is that the tables in the center aisle (where we were seated) are a bit small, so our space was slightly crowded with the extra addition of our sharing plates. Not a huge issue, but I did take note of it while dining. I was also seated facing the kitchen, and it was a bit distracting seeing the staff go in and out so frequently. This could be solved by adding a curtain in the door leading to the kitchen, but it would probably be a huge nuisance to the staff. Again, not a huge issue, but just something I noted. The best solution to these critiques would probably be to expand the restaurant itself, which maybe they'll do soon! Will definitely recommend this spot. The service is great and the quality of food was good! We really liked how the pasta was cooked and how much flavor each type had! We got the bolognese and the salmon cream pasta! It also came with bread and salad Both had great flavor and we liked the salmon cream more

Crab Gratin

I've been to both the Tokyo and Artesia locations, and they've always been consistently great, so I had high expectations for the Torrance location. Happy to say it delivered. Had to order the staples--the mentai cream pasta and the uni pasta. Both were packed with flavor, and the portions were just right. We gobbled those up in 10 minutes. We also tried the crab gratin, which was perfectly cheesy and piping hot... a little *too* hot since I immediately burned my tongue. This is exactly what I mean when Im asking for noods.

Must try this beer

All the food was delicious. Best pollock roe (mentaiko) pasta!! Definitely ordering the beer again next time--the flavor and aroma pair so well with the food.

Yummy pasta. You can taste the freshness of the tomato paste. The dishes also came out pretty quickly.

Pasta E Pasta Allegro opened up in Torrance a couple months ago so go check it out if you love Japanese-style pasta. With other locations in DTLA & Cerritos, this place is a staple for Japanese-style Italian. With lots of creamy options like mental (cod roe) cream and uni pasta, you'll love all the umami flavors. Note that it's all noodles, that looks like angel hair pasta and there's no main entrees like chicken parm or anything like that but some of the pasta dishes like bolognese have big chunks of meat to satiate your protein needs. I liked the iced Earl grey tea as well.

Great new pasta spot with traditional dishes and some new ones. Service was fast although they were clearly busy, we were able to sit at the bar. You can see your pasta being made and there are so many varieties of you are pescatarian or vegetarian as well.

Cute Japanese pasta spot in Torrance. Easy parking. Went in with a party of 6, check in on Yelp recommended! Their pasta comes with a small salad in house dressing and bread roll (mochi like). The shrimp was a little overcooked, too well done imo. The mentaiko cream was the best voted in my group! The AC was weak, really hot inside. I hope they can fix that or turn it up.

Came here after work for dinner for my nieces bf graduation and passing his RT boards. We like to try different Japanese pastas and this place was a quick drive from work. The pasta was good but my wife's dish was delicious I was like should've ordered it lol. I had the fruti di mare which is the pasta with noddles and seafood in a garlic sauce, it was good but like I said my wife's was better which was the Mentai cream Japanese style pasta. Will definitely come back to try more pasta. Nice restaurant setup. We arrived at 6 pm waited about 20-30 minutes to be seated. Hostesses were very kind and the food came out fast!!

When I first walked into this place, it immediately reminded me of an East Coast Italian spot and it made my heart a little warm. The massive menu features all different types of pasta, pizza, seafood, steak, desserts, and combos, and I was very much ready to take advantage of one of those combos. I ordered the half & half of lasagna and spaghetti with some meatballs and Italian sausage as well, because why would i not do that? Both the spaghetti and the lasagna were both absolutely delicious, but the highlight was definitely the meatball and Italian sausage, both of which were fantastic. Overall, Scardino's Italian Restaurant is easily one of my favourite Italian spots in the area and certainly a place I'll return to in the future. The food here was delicious, the vibes were good, and the service were solid as well. This place is wonderful.

UPDATE! We came…read moreback about a month later to celebrate Hubbers' birthday, but the experience wasn't the same. I'm guessing since they're coming to a permanent closure, it only makes sense that the quality of the experience (food and service) had began to going down. We were seated immediately, so we were off to a good start. It took a bit of time for Daniel (yep! We got the same server from the last time) to come around and get our orders. It wasn't too bad since the wait gave us the opp to decide on apps and mains, so we got to put all our orders in at once. CALAMARI: Battered thin and crispy. Dash of lemon juice made it better. Quality? Yes. Quantity? Not so much. I thought it was pricey for the amount we got. PEPPERCORN POLPETTINE: Meatballs in cream sauce. Even with the whole peppercorns, the sauce was good. The meatballs, however, didn't taste or look homemade at all. (I recently made frozen meatball soup at home and the meatball's flavor was pretty much similar.) So.. meh... BRUSCHETTA ALLA CHECCA: This was the best app out of the three. Crostini was perfect and the toppings were all perfectly balanced. SPAGHETTI AI NERO DI SEPPIA: Looked great, but lacked flavor. Asked for fresh grated cheese and added black pepper which helped a little, but still missing something... Hubbers got the linguine pesca mare which he loved (he emptied his plate!) So I guess that says a lot. And I'm really glad he liked it, being his birthday and all. He also chose crème brûlée to finish off his birthday treat. (No, they didn't comp it - which is fine, and I don't expect them - or any business - to, even more since they are shutting down. I understand they need all the profit they can get.) Overall a little less stellar than the first visit. I'll admit I was a teenee bit disappointed since we had an amazing experience the first time. All the same, I'm still glad of the experience and wish them well on their future endeavors!

TIKI DAVE of TIKI DAVE TRAVEL loves Bettolino Kitchen!…read more I'm not sure how we ended up here for my daughter's 17th birthday...no, wait, I remember now. My daughter's favorite South Bay Italian restaurant is J.Trani in San Pedro and they are closed on Tuesdays and while I also love J.Trani, I am very glad we ended up at Bettolino Kitchen that night. I'd been twice before and remember it being good despite the experience we witnessed our first night when a blind date went very, very poorly before they even ordered dinner. The couple sits down and she didn't like his demeanor at all. He seemed cocky and smug right away. We could tell it wasn't going to work at all. She says, "Well, you're not my type". At one point, he threatens not to pay but ends up paying. She continues, "Do you want me to lie to you?...You're free to leave" as she was intent on finishing her drink. She does and says, "I'm just going to leave now." And while I digressed, I am sorry they didn't have an opportunity to eat some of Bettolino Kitchen's fantastic food. The wife (who rightly declares in my below video that she was celebrating her "Birth Day", too) ordered the Pretty in Pink cocktail ($16) - Cazcanes Tequila, Cherry Blossom Syrup, Orange Liqueur, Fresh Citrus - and very much enjoyed it. I ordered the Fig Loves Bourbon ($16) with Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon, Fig Puree, Balsamic and Orange Bitters because it just sounded too good and unusual to resist. And it was fantastic. Having just been in Hollywood where drinks were obscenely meteoric at $21 apiece, I really appreciate the more terrestrial prices. Yummy bread is complimentary which is nice because I hate having to pay for a basket of bread. We ordered the Brussels & Balsamic ($15) to start and if you told me back in the '80s, they'd have brussel sprouts on restaurants' menus in the 2010s and 2020s and be charging $15 for 'em, I would have thought you crazy! I'm really just kidding. This dish was insanely good AND it has pancetta and quality ingredients...the rosemary croutons added a nice crunchy texture in the mix. I highly recommend you order these tiny bald-headed old man tight-leafed bundles of tasty joy. 3 out of our group of 5 ordered the Bolognese ($26) and loved it. The Del Mare ($36) pasta called out to me and holy smokes, this could be one of my favorite pasta dishes ever. Linguini with halibut, lobster, shrimp, scallops, capers, green Italian olives and cherry tomatoes in a spicy tomato sauce. I would order this dish over and over and over again. The seafood and pasta is perfectly cooked and pure brilliance with the bright freshness of the cherry tomatoes, capers and green olives just putting the whole thing to bed beautifully. Our server Rich was great, too. We brought a bottle of wine but it had turned. Thankfully, we weren't charged for it and just ordered a couple glasses of delicious Italian red instead. My daughter also wanted "Nothing Bundt Cakes'" mini-bundtlets for dessert and again, thankfully, there was no lame "cake cutting fee" we've been charged in the past elsewhere. We had plenty so this proud Pop witnessed his daughter give 4 of them to the kids at the next booth over. Ambience is lovely and bright with comfy booths and a cute little bar inside although if I'm remembering correctly, I may prefer the moody black interior they used to have. Bettolino KItchen has a great Happy Hour every single day from 2:30pm-5:30pm ($3 off starters, wines by the glass, beer and specialty cocktails), daily lunch specials from 11am-4pm as well as 50% of bottles of wines and Zero Corkage on Thursdays. Everyone likes nice gestures and discounts and so does TIKI DAVE. They also offer a weekend brunch and bikinis, I mean, bellinis and a "Date NIght Monday" where you get an appetizer, two entrees and a mini dessert for $70. As you can see, these guys deserve a thorough and fantastic review for what they're doing. TIKI DAVE can't wait to go back. Cheers!!! Came here as a walk-in as we were celebrating a special anniversary with my girlfriend!!!…read moreWe came here after a change of plans but I am so glad we did!!! We parked at one of the parking lots and strolled through the little village area with little shops lined on the sides. I felt a bit weirded out because it was so quiet over here. It felt like there was no one around!!! The stores too were closed I believe and it was about 6pm in the evening. Anyways, once we walked up the steps through the string-lit patio and walked inside, we were surprised at how loud and lively it was inside!!! Definitely different from what it seemed like outside. There was a man playing the piano and singing live, and there was a lot of people relaxed and eating from their seats. We were lucky with an open table so we had no wait and the whole vibe of the place felt very classy and elegant. Big smiles from our waiter, who also was very kind in celebrating our special night. He gave a lot of helpful info on what type of wine we would like to drink and poured our glasses. His service was extremely top notch. The food too was amazing!!! The Braciola di Maiale Tomahawk (essentially a porkchop plate) came with potato, tomatoes and balsamic sauce. One of the main reasons/things I was excited for was the Calamari fritti, which had a spicy tomato sauce on the side but it wasn't too bad. I absolutely loved it!!! It was flavorful, crispy, and with plenty of squid meat. I couldn't get enough! Our server also managed all of his tables expertly and combined with the voice of the guy singing romantic songs, it was a wonderful experience. 10/10 We both agree that we'd love to bring a group of friends here one day!!! Felt very underrated and hidden, yet so intimate!!!

The food was average, and while the live band was a nice touch, the music and noise level were so loud that it was almost impossible to have a conversation with the people at our table. The service was even more disappointing. We were seated at 6:45 PM, but no one came to take our order until 7:10 PM. After our order was taken, our waiter never returned to check on us or ask if we needed anything. We wanted to order a slice of cake to celebrate my husband's special birthday, but there were no available waiters to ask for assistance. We noticed two ladies at the front desk and three waiters working, yet we struggled to get anyone's attention. Eventually, we had to call a different waiter just to ask for our bill. By that point, we were so frustrated and disappointed that we simply wanted to leave and buy dessert or a cake somewhere else to celebrate my husband's birthday. Another concern is that the restaurant is not wheelchair-accessible due to the stairs, which could make it difficult for elderly guests or people with mobility challenges to enter. A 70th birthday is a special milestone, and we were hoping for a memorable dining experience. Instead, we left feeling upset, ignored, and dissatisfied with the overall service. Having a live band is great, but good customer service, a comfortable dining atmosphere, and accessibility are just as important. Unfortunately, this was not the special birthday celebration we had hoped for.

Garlic shrimp is bianche neri, w squid ink spaghettini (little thicker than spaghetti), all made in store. Even whipped cream on the flour less chocolate cake was made in store. Excellent!

Grilled chicken, mixed greens, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, & grilled onions. SUPER TASTY! This sandwich was bursting with flavor. Gooey cheese, sautéed shrooms, tender chicken. Their lunch special comes with a beverage (soda, coffee, iced tea ((we forgot to take advantage & ordered water SMH)) Also comes with a choice of soup or salad for an additional $6. Ordered the soup of the day which was a delicious vegetable minestrone. Also, ordered a build your own pasta dish. Started by getting a recommendation from our very helpful & polite server (he was working solo) about their long list of available sauces. We started with the Garlic Butter. (He also was very big on their Pink sauce) Paired it with Fettuccini noodles and perfectly sautéed shrimp. Over or Undercooked shrimp is gross. Ours was perfect. . Another winner (and great leftovers). When we got the bill I noticed the soup was billed for $7.50 vs $6. I asked the waiter about the discrepancy and he said something about a bowl vs a cup that usually comes with the special. I was a little confused as none of that was mentioned when ordering but I accepted it . Without me asking he brought back a new charge slip with the $6. Very nice of him By the time we left two more parties of two arrived. Both with an adult and child. I don't know enough about the Hermosa Beach Monday lunch scene but I'm surprised this spot doesn't have more customers. I'm glad we stopped by and will try to get back for dinner. One more plus (for me). I love old school r&b music and enjoyed all the great tunes!

The owners, Marco and Arlene, were incredibly kind and personable, and you could immediately tell how much pride they take in their restaurant. One of the highlights of our visit was having the opportunity to sit down and have a real conversation with Marco. We were able to hear his perspective on running a business, what he values, and what he strives to create through their restaurant. It made the experience feel much more personal and unique than a typical night out. As for the food, we had the margherita pizza, spaghetti amatriciana , and bolognese sauce with fettuccine. Everything was amazing. Each dish had its own flavor, which made trying everything even more enjoyable.. This was easily a five-star experience. It's rare to find a restaurant where the people behind it make just as strong of an impression as the food itself. We're already looking forward to coming back!

I greatly respect that everything is made to order here and the hard work that Marco puts in his craft. The service is excellent as well! Marco and his wife are wonderful people and I've never had a bad time at this place. Ever. Being at this restaurant is an experience like none other and I believe everyone should try this place out!!
