Lost again in what I wanted to eat for dinner, I turned to Yelp. Under the search box the phrase "cheap dinner" was listed as an example. I thought "what the hell," and went for it. The first result was Pasta and Co. Very near my house, a five star rating, and something decently healthy I could cook. Perfect.... not quite. This small location had an ample selection of pasta, sauces, raviolis, and frozen lasagnas to choose from. After speaking with the friendly staffer for a few minutes, I made my ravioli selection: Lemon Pecorino Rustica & Arugula Black Pepper Pasta. I selected a Piselli cream sauce to go with. Sauce and a single person serving of Ravioli came out to about 9 bucks. Not super expensive, but a bit surprising considering it was a "cheap dinner" that I was cooking myself. Raviolis are 10.50/lbs and perusing their menu it doesn't seem like there are too many cheap eats to be had. I think "moderate" might be a more accurate price description. Moving on to the food itself... To put it bluntly, I found it all to be quite bland. I tasted the "lemon" in only a single bite of the pasta. It was certainly fresh. But just flavorless. The sauce didn't compliment the ravioli well, but I'm not sure it would have complimented anything very well. To make things worse, the cream sauce managed to drown out the cheese in the ravioli. It's very possible there are good things to eat here, but my selection was anything but. I'll give them an extra star for the friendly staff and the possibility that I just made a poor selection (could happen anywhere). It might be awhile though before I try this place again. read more

I agree with Kami's review below regarding price. For handmade pasta served fresh and delicious, this place is well-priced. I've never had bad food from here, whether it's the lasagna or manicotti from the frozen case, or the ravioli from the fridge. The carrot cake and italian creme pie are also enjoyable. I'll also agree with Jessica - they don't sell a sauce to go with the butternut squash ravioli. It's probably because the best sauce to accompany it is one made easily at home: melt some butter with some sage leaves and add a pinch of salt. read more

Everything is delicious, even the ravioli made from meats/vegetables I normally avoid! They have everything a person could need for an emergency very nice pretend home-cooked meal, and the cashiers are knowledgeable enough about the products to help you make good choices if you aren't exactly sure what you need. Quality ingredients, great prices, incredible pasta, and friendly staff. My go-to for emergency date night. read more

Date night at home !! We got fresh pasta, Italian loaf , basil pesto and herbed spinach ravioli. Everything was fresh,delicious and very reasonably priced. You can prepare an amazing Italian meal in less than 30 minutes. Save yourself some time and money and have that date night at home. read more

I felt the need to update after receiving a message from the owner. I never said it was pasta and co's dumpster- I just said there was over flowing trash out front. I also didn't say this place was new, just that I was looking forward to a locally owned retailer in the area. I will update my review if I ever try the pasta but it's fairly obvious my original review was based off my initial experience, which is all I have to go off of right now. I left out a lot of other off-putting details since my first reaction was negative and I don't typically write long negative reviews. Pasta and Co. makes some seriously wonderful homemade pasta. I have been buying it from their booth at the Austin Farmer's Market at Republic Square, downtown. I have tried several flavored pastas, in varying shapes and they are all wonderful. It also freezes quite well. They only sell the pastas at the farmer's market, but if memory serves, they sell a great variety of sauces to accompany the pasta at their location on Kerby Lane. read more

This place has AMAZING food! The pasta is so wonderful - it is better than 99% of the restaurants. It will spoil you! The prices are good... great selection! Their butternut squash ravioli is out of this world. I just use butter as a sauce. No need for anything else to mask out the taste. Their prices are reasonable for what you get but it's certainly not a bargain. The counter people have always been helpful, friendly and knowledgable. My only complaint is that they do not repeat ravioli flavors as often as I would like. I always feel like I am trying something new. Most are big hits but a few are misses. read more

I base my review on my last visit here. This is always a go-to place for fresh pasta. Other than in a restaurant, this is the good stuff. My last visit I got 3 items: pappardelle, meat cannelloni, and ravioli. The ravioli was stuffed with an Irish cheddar and fried onions. But I only just now remembered the filling. That's how unremarkable and flavorless it was. The ravioli and the cannelloni were horribly, horribly underseasoned. I know that many times the sauce might have to carry a pasta dish, but with a stuffed pasta like ravioli the pasta needs to bear more of the taste weight. So I return to my uncertainty about what was in the ravioli because it literally had no taste. The cannelloni was surprisingly -- surprisingly! -- the same. I just now ate it. It quite simply tasted like someone browned some ground meat, wrapped it in some pasta, covered it with cheese and sauce, and froze it. Onion and spinach had been added to the meat, ostensibly to add moisture, but they added absolutely nothing in the way of flavor. I know I keep dwelling on it, but it really was the blandest thing I have ever eaten. And this is a surprise to me for this place. Granted I have not tried the cannelloni before, but I had high hopes. Perhaps I got a bad batch. But, again, the other pastas are terrific. They make dinner an easy task. What I like is you can ask the person behind the counter that you want a serving for 1, 2, or however many, and they take care of it. You don't have to guess how many pounds you need for your family or party. And the staff has always been friendly there. As one uneducated poster mentioned, yes it might seem expensive for flour, eggs, and water. But do you want to do that yourself at home? If so, go for it. It takes some work and some time. And fresh pasta, to me, is always better than dried. So you have to pay for a person hand-making this pasta instead of a machine. read more

Dear Sheryl, Having just finished off the remains of your amazing carrot cake (with a plastic fork, right out of the box....), I have to tell you how much my office LOVES that cake. We enjoyed it yesterday in celebration of one of our engineers getting his PE license. Actually, his success was just an excuse to order your cake. I didn't even ask him what type of cake he wanted, I just asked if he liked carrot cake because that's what we were getting. Ha! Anyway, we were all in heaven (just this side of a diabetic coma) yesterday afternoon, singing your praises and feeling supremely satisfied. I was there, a few steps behind Jason S. and I saw the very rude lady at the table chatting it up with her apparent bffs, and then snap at this guy, who was only asking her about how she's found her way with business. If she's hurting so bad, that everyone is competition for her, then maybe she should look into another line of work. The stress is obviously affecting her job. I know I was put off after seeing the hostility. Other than that, the pasta looked a little dry, but I liked seeing the variations Pasta & Co. offers. Attire - 6 stars. I take points off if I have to wear more than a t-shirt and shorts. I consider the requirement for additional clothing an attempt to compensate for a lack of quality with an increase in ambiance. No exceptions!! Seating - 3 stars. I didn't mind eating on the picnic table outside. The weather was perfect, but I wont be able to do that in August. I'd like to be able to come and sit with just enough comfort to read a list of all the pastas and sauces with enough time to imagine all the delicious possibilities. Taste - 6 Stars. There is a flavor that can be associated with food created by a true artisan that cannot be duplicated by the finest chef in the finest restaurant. This place definitely has that. Maybe it is the connection that made instantly with the folks behind the counter, or maybe it's that quality from passion always tastes beter than quality for profit. I agree 100 percent on the butternut squash ravioli. The trick is that they roast it first, which caramelizes it and drives out some of the water to concentrate the pure goodness. Try it with the Alfredo sauce for pure overkill. And it's vegetarian, for those who care. I don't, not that anyone eating it would miss meat. Some vegetarian dishes are obvious compromises between food and flavor, not Pasta & Co's butternut squash ravioli. it's quite frankly the nonpareil of filled pastas. There are a lot of creative folks there, not least of whom is pasta maker Ron Smith. Most pastas need nothing more than a quick cooking and a knob of butter or splash of olive oil. I have not been inside yet so I can't comment on the place itself or customer service, but my husband brought home pasta from here for dinner before my last running race and it was a meal I have been wanting to (and begging him to) make again. I love coming here after work when I want a delicious, fresh pasta dinner that will take me minutes to put on the table for my family and will please everyone. The ravioli flavors change often and it is fun to try them all. The frozen pasta dishes are rich and satisfying. I think the prices are very reasonable and I have never been disappointed in the freshness or the flavor combinations. The pasta seller always gives lovely advice on a sauce to compliment the pasta, which is often a simple garlic and olive oil saute. Have been here a few times and really enjoyed the range of fresh pastas on offer. The ravioli is particularly tasty and some really inventive fillings too. I like that they make the actual pasta different and interesting, complementing the fillings too. My first discovery of Pasta & Co. pasta was in the Local Box from Greenling Organic, and it smelled so good I started eating it raw. The pasta here is SO fresh and SO delicious that I can't describe it to you if you have never had fresh homemade pasta. Just go here and buy anything -- the linguini or spirals in all colors and flavors, or the ravioli with amazingly interesting fillings that change every day. If you can stop yourself from eating it raw (!), throw it in boiing water for 3 minutes, drain it, and eat it with any kind of seasoning or sauce. Buy the amazing Pasta & Co. fresh sauces (especially Salsa Robusto -- the tomato-based sauce with wine and garlic) or just toss the pasta in some olive oil with salt and pepper. I don't even put sauce on the ravioli, because the taste is so perfect without any distractions! If you can't make it up to Kerby Lane during business hours, Pasta & Co. has a booth at the Austin Downtown Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings (except during their super-busy Christmas season). read more
