We had to wait for our food for a bit but there were plenty of tv's to watch/pass the time. I got the Caribbean Roast Sandwich and it was SO delicious and flavorful. It was a little messy but no worries because they have hand wipes and a bunch of tissues/utensils if you need them. We also ordered the paseo press sandwich and the sweet roasted corn. Both of these were good, especially since the roasted corn was an actual cob corn, but the Caribbean roast sandwich was our favorite of the night. We stopped for lunch at Paseo before a Seahawks pre-season game, and it was busy but not as packed as I would have expected. There were still seats available both inside and outside. I ordered the citrus salad with salmon, and it was a delicious salad. It hit on all of the right notes - a little crunchy, a little sour and a lot savory. Everyone else in my party ordered sandwiches which is what they're known for, but the salad was quite good. Paseo is heaven. We typically come here before a baseball game, or randomly on the weekends if we're taking a trip to HD. The Caribbean Roast sandwich is a must. This is ridiculously messy (because it's so juicy and flavorful) so you will need a bucket load of napkins. I love it so much that I exclusively order it. My husband has eaten the West Caribbean Bowl and has also enjoyed it. We have both tried the yuca fries and the tostones which we also enjoyed but don't order them regularly. Food usually comes out pretty fast, it takes a little extra time on game days, but we've never had to wait for egregious amounts of time. They have a few dedicated parking spots, but they are almost always full, so you're gonna have to pay for parking in the parking lot. If you're not coming for a baseball game (and it's Game Day), I wouldn't bother because it's an arm and a leg to park. Mexican cokes are the best! They use real cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. It's not only better for you, but it tastes way better. They are famous for the slow roasted pork shoulder. So if it's your first time, try #1 Famous Caribbean Roast (roast pork) or #2 Paseo Press (roast pork + smoked ham + banana pepper). Paseo simply isn't what it was back in the "2nd-best-sandwich-in-America" days. If you want that caliber of sandwich you need to go to Un Bien, where the original Paseo recipes live on (and dare I say, have even improved), and perfect preparation is the routine. Neither of those statements is true about Paseo. But - all things considered - do they make a good sandwich? Yes they do. It's just not AS good, in any way, as the sandwich we all know it wishes it was. The bread isn't quite as crunchy, and can be a little spongy. The marinades on the meat, no matter which variety you get, are missing a little je ne sais quoi. The lettuce gets soggier and the aioli is out of balance. The caramelized onions are less caramelly...and somehow less onion-y. Even the wrap jobs are worse - they tend to get onions all over the outside of the sandwich. (Be warned, lunch will be messy.) I know I'm not raving here, but if you've never eaten at either of these two restaurants, you WILL like Paseo. It's good food. It's just hard to justify going when I know what the alternative has on offer. If you're crunched for time, eat here - you won't regret it. If you've got an open afternoon, drive 20 minutes north to Un Bien for what truly must be one of the greatest sandwiches on earth. (Don't expect it to be less messy though.) read more

The SoDo location of the Caribbean sandwich shop. Pretty swell known in Seattle apparently. Medium size space with counter seating and some tables in the main area, and a room in the back with more tables (which smelled a little stale). Plenty of parking out front unless there's game happening in the nearby stadiums, but they reserve the parking spots right in front of the building. You order at register near the entrance and pick up your food a bit further down the counter. We got their signature pork roast sandwich and the spicy sauteed shrimp sandwich. Both sandwiches use toasted baguettes with garlic aioli, and the bread has a nice crunch on the outside without being too hard. The roast pork sandwich is very flavorful and juicy, and kind of hard to eat without it falling apart. For the spicy shrimp sandwich, you can pick the spice level from 1 to 5. We got level 2 and it had a noticeable amount of heat without being too spicy. Got that more zesty seafood seasoning as well. In addition to the sandwiches, we got the tostones (fried plantain) and the roasted corn. The tostones were very starchy. Has a thin soft center and a thicker harder crust from frying. Doesn't have much flavor in itself, but the chipotle dipping sauce that comes with it was really nice and creamy. The roast corn with garlic, parmesan, and seasoning was very tasty. The bold seasoning, cheese and garlic goes well with the sweetness of the corn. Total was probably $50 for all the food. Medium priced. read more

It came cut in half with generous chunks of pork, lettuce, onions, jalapeños, and cilantro. The cuts of pork were weirdly uneven, some super lean and kinda dry, some just huge bites of pure fat. I found that the meat was lacking some flavor when comparing to Un Bien. Don't get me wrong though, it was still good. One other complaint is that the sandwich is a huge mess to eat. Yes, un bien is also a mess to eat, but somehow less? At least it maintains its sandwich structural integrity. Overall, pretty good! I will continue to choose Un Bien over Paseo though!! read more

Ordered take out as paid parking in the area is quite crazy due to sports game happening on the same day me and friend visited. Despite the drama with the former business owners, Paseo is still a solid go to. This location is easy to find and has it's own parking lot. The website allows preorder (sometimes doesnt work and you have to call it in) which makes it convenient for group ordering. We love the roasted pork sandwich of course but the jambalaya was a surprising win that we have ordered multiple times now. Well I'm back on board! We did take out here a lot during Covid, and at first the portions were sooo generous- then the opposite happened and the portions shrank to 1/2 or less the previous size. We stopped going for a few years, and then were in area and it was convenient to come in. Hubs and I both had Caribbean bowls- which turned out to be multiple meals each. This is consistent, fairly convenient...unless theirs a football or baseball game, even than there are a few slots you can park right in front of the door, and sooooo tasty! They are known for their sandwiches, so delicious, hearty French baguette, garlicky aioli, romaine lettuce, thick cute, slow cooked onion with just the perfect bite left in them, and your choice of protein. My favorite choice has always been the slow roasted Cuban Pork! It's always incredibly juicy, tasty & tender. They have chicken thigh as an option if you don't eat pork but it's not as tender as the pork. The sandwich is huge and cut in half...easily shareable between 2 so you can try other items! I highly recommend the corn, served elotes style, their fries are extra tasty to especially if you get a side of their aioli to dip them into. They also have a special add on that contains their house salad, rice & black beans & a small piece of corn without all the fixings. It's a good counter balance to richness of the sandwich...the salad is simply romaine and julienned pickled beets but it's a great tartness to balance the roasted meat & aioli. When I'm not feeling like I want bread...they have bowls & a Plato that hits all the same notes as the sandwich. I ordered the Plato this time, with your choice of protein, of course I got the Cuban roast and I added a side of the caramelized onions which really made it like the sandwich! Next time I will also ask for a side of the aioli...but we had an order of fries at our table so we had extra aioli for dipping. Huge portion of food as my Plato came with rice and beans, salad & a small piece of corn. It's definitely enough food for 2 maybe even 3 servings! You order at the counter and the server is always friendly. You seat & bus your own tables, they have multiple TV's on all different sports and they even have a room in the back that can be rented out for private parties. Only issue was one of the snotty millennial counter workers who told me I could not take any photos without permission. Uh huh. Honestly not that impressed with this place especially when considering the other high rated reviews and the pork shoulder being rated one of the best sandwiches in the states. Don't get me wrong-- it was still good, but just nothing special. I would rate the meat itself a 4/5 stars. It was cooked well, tender and very juicy. We stopped by here for a sandwich and it happened to be a day that there was a Mariners game. Despite that the wait wasn't long and when we walked in, we walked right up to order. There is a ton of place for sitting both inside and outside, so it's a great place to bring kids to the family. The streets were covered in snow when we arrived at Paseo in SoDo for the first time in late Dec. The first thing to cheer about is that they have their own parking, even though there's a 30 minutes limit. I'll take it! To lower the cost, buy a Groupon. I bought it minutes before driving there. Never been to this place but got a takeout a bunch of times. I don't eat meat so I got the onion obsession sandwich and corn on the cobs both times. The corn on the cob is amazing, with great flavor. I love the sandwich as well. The only issue I had with the sandwich is that the wrapper around it doesn't hold up well with the sauce and becomes harder to unwrap properly. I dropped by around noon on the first day of this event and was pleased to see that they have a few designated parking spots for customers so that you don't have to pay for parking. It makes sense to me that parking outside of their marked spots are paid because it's located so close to event stadiums, but I can only imagine these 5 assigned spots filling up quick during busy hours. To my surprise, it was quite busy for a Wednesday before noon, but that wasn't a problem at all because the line moved quickly and the order process was seamless. Finally got to try Paseo. Thanks to a Yelp event here. Ordered their famous Caribbean pork roast, shrimp sandwich, street style corn and Caribbean fries. Everything we ordered was delicious. The Caribbean pork roast sandwich was the best. Amazing flavors juicy pork beautifully caramelized onions what a medley of flavors in my mouth. The shrimp sandwich had a good amount of shrimp well sauteed with caramelized onions jalapeno. Please do me a favor and order their street style corn - it was one of the best corn sides I have ever tasted. Sweet corn with cheese and caribbean spices tasted divine. The fries were great too. This seems to be a little gem of a spot. Had the Paseo Press sandwich and chips and salsa. The salsa is served hot (not warm), this caught me off guard. It had good flavor, but reminded me more of a tomato soup. Chips were good. The sandwich was one of the best I've ever had as far as flavor goes. Fresh, crunchy bread, the pork was incredibly tender, flavorful and juicy. The banana peppers added a perfect amount of spice to balance the sweet and savoryness of the meat and onions. You really can't eat this sandwich without a fork though, it immediately falls apart. Prices seemed reasonable. The outdoor seating area is definitely nice for a sunny day, and has umbrellas to give you a little protection. The inside reminded me a little bit of a breakfast diner combined with a BBQ place as far as seating goes. I know everyone loves Paseo's roasted pork sandwich, but I just can't seem to jump on the bandwagon. I always found the pork to be dry and the baguette to be too hard. But while my friend was in town, she had always wanted to try Paseo and since it was right next to an exhibit we were going to, it seemed like the ideal time to give Paseo another chance. This Paseo is located in the Sodo neighborhood, with its own private parking lot, making it more accessible than its north Seattle location. You order first at the counter then your food is delivered to your table. The menu has a lot to choose from, with baguette sandwiches, bowls, salads, of all different proteins; though, the roasted pork is what makes Paseo famous. My friend ordered the roasted pork sandwich and tostones while I had the west Caribbean bowl with the roasted pork. Food didn't take long to get and overall, it was A-OK. The bowl itself was good, but again, the roasted pork was more on the dry side. I think I've finally learned my lesson in not getting the pork, no matter how many people say otherwise. The bowl came with rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, red sauce and jalapenos; it was hearty. I am glad that my friend liked her sandwich. Overall, I've been getting my order wrong at Paseo. Week 18/52 in my endeavor to try one new (to me) local spot per week. And yes, I'm aware we're past week 18 but my drafts are overflowwwin' y'all! Like most Seattleites, I've heard about Paseo time and time again. Before a Mariners game, my husband and I were looking for a pre-game bite. Paseo is close to the stadium, so I suggested that and there we went! They've got great outdoor seating, but ample indoor as well. The menu was a little overwhelming, and I couldn't decide if I wanted a bowl or a sandwich, but I ended up landing on the #1 - the Famous Caribbean Roast, rated the Best Sandwich in America (by someone)! The kicker here is that I DESPISE getting my hands dirty. I order bowls, scrambles, etc. anything that gets me out of making my hands messy. Me ordering this sandwich was a big deal! But I felt that I had to do it to truly experience Paseo. Our order was called out over the intercom since we sat outside. Snagged it quickly and easily. My husband loved his bowl and raved about the pickled jalapeños. The sandwich was EQUALLY (if not more) delicious. Absolutely phenomenal. Tender, flavorful meat adorned with cilantro, pickled jalapeños, caramelized onions, and romaine. My husband was 100% in the RIGHT hyping up those pickled jalapeños. Good lord I could eat them by themselves! I should've got more! Soooo good. My hands were an absolute trash mess and after I devoured my sandwich I was having a tiny panic attack at how messy I was, but you know what? I was WORTH IT which is the highest accolade I can give!
