I've never been disappointed by Pasa Thai, and that is saying something. They have a really neat indoor and outdoor space so in good weather you can opt to sit outside or along their huge bank of windows (ok, so the view is only of the parking lot and 123, but as I sat there one recent afternoon, the sun was streaming in and it felt great.) The better half and I have brought the kids here more then once and they have always found something they like. My most recent visit consisted of both the papaya salad and spring rolls appetizer, both of which were outstanding. The spring rolls were a little dry, but with some peanut sauce extremely tasty. I had a rice noodle dish, sorry, I forget which one, it had chilis and just the right amount of burn. I also picked up some pork green curry to bring home and that was truly delectable (the better half devoured it in no time.) The service is always quite pleasant and they have a great selection of alcoholic beverages (I was quite tempted by a strawberry lemonade with vodka, but opted to save that for another visit.) Bottom line is that not only will I continue to frequent the restaurant, I have them on speed dial knowing that on my way home, absent any desire to cook, I can always make a call and have a great dinner ready to pick up in no time flat. read more

Pasa Thai is one of my favorite Thai places in Nova. Today we had Pad Thai and panang curry. Aside from my companion wishing the panang were a little spicier, it was perfect. They didn't scrimp on the ingredients in the Pad Thai, my papaya salad was delicious... Basically everything I've ever had here is quality. On top of all of that, the decor and atmosphere is modern, the wait staff are attentive, and their mango and sticky rice is divine. So where did that fifth star go? Their taste in music is dreadful. This is how you know that a restaurant is just not customer oriented. Ordered 9 dishes from here & 6 dishes from 7 Spice Indian restaurant, both in McLean, for a family birthday dinner for 15 people. I go to Pasa Thai & everything is packaged up in 2 medium sized bags & I find myself wondering how they could hold 9 dinner entrees. Sure enough, I get home & find mini half-sized styrofoam containers barely filled with food. The panang chicken curry was literally a cup of food! These are entrees ranging in prices from $15 to $18 each! I spent over $150 for food that would barely feed 5-6 people. On the other hand, I go to 7 Spice Indian restaurant, and the owner there, Raj, personally came out to greet me & brought out piping hot food in nice covered foil trays (he had the sense to put my 3 orders of butter chicken, 3 orders of chili chicken, & 5 orders of naan in larger buffet style trays so they can be served family style!) & even helped me carry them to the car. The food was delicious, the amount was generous, & I had spent $40 less than I had at Pasa Thai. The difference between the 2 restaurants in their customer service philosophy was so clear. It's a shame that a restaurant would skimp on portions and end up losing customers in the long run. How much money did they save now??? read more

Our family eats here once in a while, or I will do take out when I don't feel like cooking :-) The food is wonderful and fresh, and I'd love to eat here more often but my husband can only take so much Thai food. The staff is friendly and service is quick - sometimes too quick: they like to ask you if they can clear your plate before you're done. We brought friends here last time and they were very happy with the food as well. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area. read more

There are TWO really good Thai restaurants in McLean! Pasa Thai and Absolute Thai are definitely contenders. Pasa Thai has great service and really great Pad Thai, as well as affordable lunch specials. However, the ambiance is a bit lacking. Their red curry and tom kha are about a 4 out of 5 in my opinion. Service is quick and take-out/delivery are easy! Absolute Thai has to be my favorite between the two, but only slightly. Their red curry and tom kha are out of this world! Absolutely the best I've ever had! Also, it's a much nicer place to sit down and eat and their deserts are gorgeous (although I can't eat any of them because of food allergies. Darn!). Service at A.T. is also pretty good. The down side is Absolute is pricier, and their pad thai is sort of lacking. "Boring" would be a good way to describe it. I haven't had a whole bunch of different dishes at either place, but I recommend them both! Pasa Thai for their lunch specials and take out, Absolute Thai for their dinner menu. Pricey and food taste has declined since I was last here 3 years ago. The customer service is excellent though and the place is always clean. My crab soup salad tasted like a lemon was squeezed in the water right before serving it, so I which they would have taken more time preparing the broth. The menu says the Papaya salad has shrimp, well it did come with ONE shrimp as a decoration. I saw other people dishes and they serve good portions. Also all the ingredients tasted fresh. I am addicted to their food! I tried it out for the first time a few weeks ago and have been back at least once a week ever since. The pad see ew is my absolute favorite. They also have many vegan and vegetarian options. When I was sick their lemongrass and coconut soup was so soothing and healing. It does get crowded here at lunch time some days but it's understandable!!!! read more

We were hungry, driving through, and, unfamiliar with McLean, were pretty much prepared to eat at the first restaurant we saw. Pasa Thai, though, really really exceeded our expectations. It was absolutely delicious. I had the STEAK SALAD Grilled & marinated beef salad with lime dressing, and my boyfriend had PASA THAI PANANG CURRY With traditional Thai curry peanut sauce, coconut milk and fresh basil leaves (and we both sampled each other's food). I rarely post reviews, but this place really deserves it. It was very spicy, but the flavors were delicious and, hmm, multi-dimensional. My salad tasted just like pho, and the curry started out soothing and then built up to spicy with each bite. It was reasonably priced and good-sized portions. Very disappointed. First time customer. Ordered a bunch of appetizers and the 3 of us all had strikingly similar verdicts: the summer and spring rolls: Average, and summer rolls actually bland. And where the sauce could make the difference, both were served with a sweetish sauce (so, so) and no savory sauce among choice that we're typically provided with Thai. The chicken satay was incredibly average while the shrimp satay was fine and well cooked. BUT both were served with a funky peanut sauce that had a peculiar ingredient added that we couldn't pinpoint. None of us liked it. The Green Papaya salad was very good. This is a nice little Thai place. The staff was friendly and the service was good. Food came out fairly quickly. I had the red curry with chicken, which I liked. Only criticism: I indicated I wanted it Thai hot. The waitress asked if I was sure. I said yes. After taking a few bites I had to ask for the spices. Prior to me bringing it up to the right level I would estimate their Thai hot to be a 6, maybe 7, on a scale of 1-10. That was a bit disappointing, but it will not stop me from going there again. I work a couple of blocks from Pasa Thai and we've ordered from there are few times recently. We have never had a problem with our orders being correct, but we are often underwhelmed. To start, their portions are small and their prices are high - at least a few dollars per entree more than usual. I've ordered the panang curry, in various levels of spiciness, and it's decent but by far not the best. The pad thai is very, very bland, even for pad thai. Being that it is close and cheaper than any other Thai place in McLean, I'm sure I will go back, because it will do in a pinch, but there is much better value to read more

I am shocked I haven't written about Pasa Thai yet. I have probably been here at LEAST 20 times (and would go more if I lived within walking distance or had a car). The food is great - the crab soup is incredible, as is the calamari. Yes, it is hard to get calamari wrong, but their calamari rings always come out with this perfect, melt in your mouth taste, and piping hot. They are the best calamari rings I have ever had at any restaurant ever. Then is the one dish that I get every time I go to this restaurant - Chicken Ka-Tiem. Each time I tell myself I will try something new, but each time I go there feels like such a special treat I have to get my favorite meal. I have had chicken ka-tiem or some variant of it at many different Thai restaurants, but the one they serve here is my favorite. The sauce is great, and the portion is just right. I never have to take home leftovers, but have never left unsatisfied (though I always get either calamari or crab soup first, which helps). I will concur with an earlier reviewer - their drinks are cool but quite expensive for the amount you get. I guess when I'm spending 8 dollars on a martini I expect a bigger portion. The amount you get looks like less than 2 ounces. I always get a Singha when I'm here. Anyway, other than this one minor complaint, I love Pasa Thai! I strongly recommend it. read more

The food is ok but absolute thai around the corner is tastier. The real problem with this place is the prices- $16 for pad thai?! Are the noodles dipped in gold? It's just not worth the price as the food is just meh. The portions of entrees like cashew chicken and panang chicken are small and although the size of the pad thai and drunken noodles looks generous, there isn't much meat or tofu in the dishes. Very good but also so so expensive (the prices for their main soups are outrageous). The iced tea has a nutty taste (which I love, but others don't). Definitely order the pad Thai, the drunken noodles (pad Ke Mao), the crispy chicken basil (probably the best but is so hit or miss) and the mango sticky rice. The eggplant chicken salad isn't bad either. Know that substitutions or add-ons can easily make your $10 noodle dish into a $20 dish. 4 stars instead of 5 because it's a bit over priced and dishes are hit of miss in terms of crispness, spiciness, etc. read more

Very authentic Thai food. The portions are a bit small, even by Thai standards. If the portions were double the size, they would be on par with a normal sized dish in Bangkok. They are also one of the few Thai places that have sticky rice to go with the papaya salad, Isaan style. The staff is very nice. When the table next to me complained about the lack of chopsticks, the waitress promptly brought a pair out even though Thai's don't normally eat with chopsticks...they use a spoon for most dishes. read more

What I'd like to do is give this a 2.5. It's okay...but there's definitely better around. Pasa Thai's a small, cozy place with friendly staff. The food's decent, but somewhat bland. And when it came to heat, some of the designated dishes had it but most did not. (I definitely should have asked for extra spicy as Nina P. suggested! Our first time at this restaurant. There's another Thai restaurant just a few doors down in the same shopping center. The service was good. Our server was quick to take our order and she checked on us constantly. Some reviewer calls this place cozy, cut, but we found the place unappealing. Food wise, we have to agree with some of previous reviewers' comments, "Overpriced for small portions." The $18 sizzling siam beef didn't come on a hot plate like the picture on their website. It came wrapped in tin foil. Also, as some of the previous reviewers had pointed out, they overcooked the beef to nothing. It was inedible, and we packed it home for our little friend. Same with the chicken in Rama in Jacuzzi which was overcooked, and it was very salty. The Pad Thai was ok. The noodle was a little chewy, and we had better Pad Thai elsewhere. Best Thai food I have had in a long time! The golden papaya and pad thai were particularly good. The restaurant is small and seems to have a lively carryout business, but we went early on a Saturday night and had zero problems with service or kitchen time.
