Menudo, asada taco and chillaquielles
Crystal C.

You can't get good Mexican food in Chic....wait a minute !! Yes you can ! We stopped by this adorable little diner today and was greeted by the sweetest lady who introduced herself as the owner ! She kindly greeted this Houstonian and brought us some delicious coffee! A funny and very courteous gentleman took or order and continued to provide great chatter ! Then he brought out my "small" bowl of menudo -which wasn't that small and loaded with hominy and tripe! The taste before I made it my own was delightful! I tend to over do it with the limes and onions but even without it was nom nom ! The asada taco meat was seasoned so deliciously! The flour tortillas seemed to melt in my mouth! My friend ordered the chilaquiles and the order was HUGE! So she gave me like a quarter of it and the homemade chips and meat were amazing !! Even the sweet cook came and chatted and was so kind and we thanked her for a delicious meal !! I go home tomorrow but not before we stop here for another meal!

Chilaquiles w/ steak and over and easy eggs

CASH ONLY. Chilaquiles is SO GOOD here. I got it with chorizo with scrambled eggs and it was delicious. I almost finished the whole plate but I was so full. My friend got the same dish but with over and easy eggs with steak and she said it was also good. Whatever you get with your chilaquiles, it will be delicious. It comes with housemade salsa in a bottle and it's so good. They make 30 pounds of it every week. I had the cucumber and lime drink and it was slightly sweet and very refreshing. It paired well with the chilaquiles. The space and seating area is intimate and smaller, but it def has a homey feel and you get to watch what goes behind the scenes behind the counter as they cook and prepare ingredients. The owner is super nice and welcoming. He explains the menu very well. I will def come back here again to try their other dishes!

Okay I love this place. Amazing customer service. The staff is so friendly and greeted me with a free bowl of soup while I waited on my to-go order. The soup was so good. Tons of veggies, chicken, and bow tie pasta. The service was so phenomenal and the staff was so attentive while making my order, making sure everything was cooked how I wanted it to be. I can tell this will be a go-to for me in the future.

Economical platters, friendly staff and cozy spot to have lunch with an old coworker.

Get your kicks on Route 66 #Chicago #flyforfood #Yelpfriends…read more OMG! I must say the midwest chefs are accustomed to feeding hungry farmers and truckers I think. The portions of each menu item is HUGE. Be prepared to wait in line for a table. No reservations taken, you just wait your turn in that line.... Food is actually pretty darn good. Rolls and fruit are complimentary. Their home made jelly and marmalade is absolutely delicious (OK, full disclosure: I grabbed a couple containers of the marmalade and carried them back home to Honolulu, I should have purchased their jar of marmalade which I didn't know they had. It was after and as I walked out of the Establishment that I noticed it. I shared the Denver Omelet and it was a good thing because that meal was HUGE. Looking at the food our traveling companions ordered only confirmed the decision to share the meal was the right thing to do. OH that darned Pecan Roll, recommended by our waiter was delicious and let me just say one bite curbed my sweet craving. Iconic Lou Mitchell's has been there for over 100 years. There is something to be said about an establishment in business for a century. AND the big thing? Close to the start of Route 66..... A must try and a must visit if you are in Chicago, let alone in the area

#chicago #flyforfood #yelpfriends…read more My last day in Chicago. My last meal in Chicago. My travel partners and I chose Eleven city diner for our breakfast/brunch/lunch before my leaving for the airport. I wanted some deli food which with all of my meals I did not have. No pastrami, no corn beef no nothing up until this meal. I ordered an open face, pastrami sandwich, and boy. What a meal it was. Homemade pastrami plated on rye bread and a bed of cheese and their special sauce. My travel partners had meals of their own, but what was cute and retro of this establishment was their soda jerk machines, their old-fashioned counters with swivel chairs, there, old-fashioned, neon lights and their booths in dark colored vinyl. How retro can that be? Service was spot on as soon as you were seated, outcomes the water, the menu, and a smiley face asking for your order. A special touch for me was they held my luggage in the back area so it's not to clutter the dining area while we had our meal. I will definitely go back here for a meal next time I'm visiting the great Windy City

The three of us came on a Monday morning. It wasn't too crowded, but we still had to wait. I could see this place getting packed on weekends or during extra busy events in Chicago. While we waited, we enjoyed looking at all the fun, old-school diner decor. It's fast-paced, lively, loud, and so fun! Inside, the seating is ample, with big booths and tables. The staff was all friendly and kind. I'm not too familiar with Jewish delicatessen food, but I do like salmon, so I got the Lox and Latke with Sour Cream. The lox and all additions were good. The latke was big, thick, and hearty. Everything paired well and was a nice portion. It was very filling, but I wish the latke had a bit more crispness and flavor. My friends got their breakfast and lunch items and seemed to enjoy them. It's great that they offer breakfast and lunch--a mix of classic and specialty items. I'd come again and order more things to try! If you're staying in Chicago and want a memorable breakfast meal, give Eleven City Diner a try! The food is good, and the service is great. Find them off Wabash Ave., close to public transportation.
