Thanks to a fellow Yelper, I learned the trick of going later in the morning. I hardly waited five minutes. And I know some people show up long before they open and wait in line for hours. It does look fun to be part of the community waiting together and being on their daily Facebook video. But... I was good with the short wait. And....what a de-licious cinnamon roll. I only got one to share between three of us. I had to stop myself from eating more than my share! Lovely friendly service too! I'm a fan!

The staff is so very nice, fun and patient. There is always a huge crowd outside and they always walk through a say hello to everyone. I waited 90 min and lined up at 5:50am. I was probably 12th in line. I was back in the car at 7:20. I also purchased their cookies, scone and croissant. The croissant was excellent as was the cinnamon roll - of course!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news for those who don't like to wait in line, but the line is totally worth it. I honestly did not want to stand around in line for a cinnamon roll, which are not my favorite (so I thought it wouldn't blow my mind) but I'm really glad my boyfriend convinced me to wait. We were in line for ~40 minutes at 9:40 AM on a Monday. There's plenty of coffee places nearby (including Papi's own coffee service) to help pass the time. I can't emphasize enough how fantastic this cinnamon roll was... served right out of the oven, so warm, with an excellent crunch around all the edges but still warm and gooey on the inside. It's pretty big so can serve 3-4 (we had leftovers)

I heard about this from Yelp's Top 100 list and then from multiple friends that come to Maui often. The line is no joke - waited 45 minutes in the rain. The smell wafting out of the window was heavenly and the rolls themselves once we got to the door were insane! A whole clamshell to go container size. People were ordering by the half or whole dozen and getting them in pizza boxes. Food: The rolls were super fresh, soft, and delicious. The Portuguese sausage roll was also super yummy and my personal favorite as more of a savory fan.

Cinnamon roll is huge and very buttery and soft. The frosting on top is delicious

Snagged one of the "famous" cinnamon rolls and it was ok but I definitely wouldn't wait for hours to get one like a lot of people do. The cinnamon roll was super fresh, but could have used a little more cinnamon. The frosting on top was delicious and the size of the roll was huge (plenty to share).

Went here twice, once for the breakfast bakery stuff and once for the pizza. Bakery stuff was a 4 (cinnamon roll and aloha scone, everything else sold out). Cinnamon roll was giant and not too bad, albeit I'm not a huge cinnamon bun person. Overall nice flavor and a lot of it. Scone was pretty nice too, had it over the course of 3-4 days on our stay here. Pizza though is a 1 star through and through. Got a margherita and a Bella Bella (pepperoni, mushroom and ranch). They ran out of basil, so the former was just a cheese pizza. Bella Bella was okay, but overall the dough was so lackluster; the crust was very dense and overall just reminded me of Costco or chuck-e-cheese pizza. To top it off, the Parmesan in the packets they gave us were brown, which generally means they were old af and exposed to a lot of temperature variations.

These were the best cinnamon rolls I ever had!! I showed up around 10:45 and waited about 15 minutes and there plenty of cinnamon rolls left but they were sold out of everything else. These cinnamon rolls lived up to their hype! So much flavor! Just make sure to eat them when they are fresh and warm.

The wait in line is so worth it. If you have experience baking, he definitely folded this a thousand times. It's so flakey, crispy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside. It tastes like one roll has a stick of butter. The glaze is perfectly balanced and not too sweet.

Flew in from Oahu to try this place! And when I tell you the flight, the drive, and the wait was worth it... Best. Cinnamon. Roll. Ever! Hands down, light, crunchy, just the right amount of sweet and icing. This was perfect! For a monster sized cinnamon roll, you can finish a whole one easy. Ordered 8 of these to share with my employees as I couldn't gate keep this. They all state these were some of the best cinnamon rolls they've ever had! If you're thinking about it, don't. Just go! Service is amazing, the staff are some of the best friendliest you'll meet! Worth. The. Drive.

A must try in Maui!! The secret is to get there at 9am! the like is in the shorter side, only waited 15-20 min! The cinnamon rolls are huge and the service is incredible! They made you feel so welcomed there!

Oh my goodness! This is the best cinnamon roll I have EVER eaten. My only complaint is that I live in Arizona- I want to grab a flight just to come eat here again! Visiting a friend in Lahaina, so at my friends recommendation, our group and I stopped by to grab breakfast before a fun day. We were so excited to eat these fresh, gooey rolls of goodness that I didn't even get a photo before my partner and I dug in. The bakery smells so good- just walking in, you're hit with the scent of fresh pastries and a warm greeting by staff, which was nice! Some members of the group got croissants as well, and I had a bite of the spam, jalapeño, and cheese croissant- super yummy! The pasty itself was buttery and flaky, and there was a very good amount of filling inside the pastry. No skimping on the spam! The cinnamon roll is everything I was looking for, and it's also huge (bigger than my face!). No part of the roll is dry, and the dough is soft. The frosting is indulgent without being heavy, and the cinnamon filling is pleasantly spiced without being overly sweet. Don't get me wrong, though- this cinnamon roll is RICH- in the best way! One thing I will say is that I am not kidding that these are huge- unless you're looking to enter a food coma, these rolls are definitely sharing size. A definite must visit if you're visiting friends or family here, or just traveling through. I'm back in Arizona, now... but still dreaming about these cinnamon rolls!

Hold up! This was the best cinnamon roll ever! The roll is very light, airy, buttery and tasty. The glaze totally compliments the roll allowing the roll to be the star and the glaze being the icing on the cake. If you visit this place is a must! This place has the best Cinnamon Rolls ever! We've been passing by this place every time we come, and today was 1st time it was open, so we stopped in. There was a line out the door, small little place but a good sign even before doors opened. Once we had a bite, we were hooked!! They are open odd days and hours, but we will be back on Thursday am to not only get a Cinnamon roll but to try one of their stuffed croissants, they looked amazing. Great little local hole in the wall, a must stop! Hopefully we can try their pizza on a Saturday when we're back in September! read more

Went to get a cinnamon roll but sold out, so picked up a couple scones---pineapple and mango they were awesome. Ordered a pizza to pick up later in the day and it was also awesome but the most awesome thing about the pizza is the proceeds are donated to help the families and people of Lahaina. OMG. We are cinnamon roll lovers and seek out the best cinnamon rolls everywhere we go. Papi's Ohana (https://papisohana.com/ ) has by far the best cinnamon roll's ever. They are $8.00. They are large, (dinner plate size) fluffy and perfectly covered with glaze. In a close second place is Wagner's world famous diner at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Everyone else does not even come close to these two places. If you are in Maui near Ka'anapali. You have to go to Papi's bakery. They open at 7:00 am. And there will be at least a 20 to 30 minute line already waiting to get in. They stay open until they sell out and may only take a few hours. This is a must if you like cinnamon rolls. read more

Omg you guys! Don't miss out on this gem while visiting Maui. First of all the guys working here are awesome! Super nice guys. Second their food is amazing. The pizza is so fresh. The dough it perfection. We also got the cinnamon roll, chocolate croissant and blueberry scone and they were all delicious! We will definitely return. Sadly I didn't get a cinnamon roll but had the pizza. Ordered the combo and it was delicious. Just wish they had smaller pizzas. We couldn't finish the pizza and we didn't have a fridge in our room to keep it overnight. Met the owners and they are very nice. Try them out! read more

We came into town from Arizona! We love trying local places and came across the place on Yelp. Had to stop by and try the cinnamon rolls and boy of boy were these the best ones we have tried. That flakiness that the dough had was amazing. The right sweetness and flavor! Handmade everyday in house once they sell out for the day they are out. We went back to Papis tonight for pizza after enjoying the amazing cinnamon rolls, croissants and cookies and so glad we did ! We got the meat lovers pizza which had sooooo many toppings and the Margherita pizza which was so flavorful! I cannot imagine there is any better pizza than here! I wish we could give more than 5 stars ! We only have two days left in Maui and we are already plotting our next visit before we leave !!! I am kicking myself for not getting another box of cookies ! what was I thinking !!! we finished them all last time in less than a few hours and now I am sorry I forgot to get another dozen ! Bomb! Cinnamon rolls are absolutely outrageously delicious. Pizza is incredible. The couple /family that own it are an asset to their community. They are providing delicious food and aloha spirit. What a delightful discovery. This place has the best cinnamon rolls I've ever tasted. Worth every bit of hype. Ate several days in a row on our vacation. Cinnamon rolls in the morning followed by pizza at night. These were the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. Super light and tasty. Went with a sausage croissant too. Disclaimer: Please EXPECT a wait. Some people state they’ve waited as little as 3 minutes to 4 hours. We can never tell what the day will look like. We open at 7am/ish and close when sold out. The line begins to form around 6am or earlier. We sell out anywhere around 10:30am or so. Depending on the season, some people walk right in, we can never tell. If you’re looking for fast food, we might not be your spot. This isn’t your average bakery. Every pastry we make comes from time, patience, and a lot of heart. Chef prepares everything completely from scratch in a three-day process, which is why we close for three days each week to prep with intention. There are no shortcuts and no rushing here. Just real, thoughtful craftsmanship. We believe dedication goes both ways. Our loyal Ohana shows up early, and in return, we put our full care into the quality of what we serve. There is often a wait, and once we sell out, our bakery closes for the day. We’re a made-from-scratch mom-and-pop bakery, blessed to serve our community with aloha and a smile. If you enjoy pastries created slowly and intentionally, we’d love to welcome you. Arriving early gives you the best chance to try the cinnamon rolls many of our guests enjoy.

But that party of four, and others, were seated before us. After 40+ minutes waiting, Qiana apologized for a table that was lingering and asked if we wanted to wait for a table upstairs or be seated on the crowded lanai (with several young children) or wait a bit for a table upstairs. I chose upstairs. We waited for that lingering party to depart; no one left. Then 15-20 minutes later, we were seated upstairs. That was one hour after our reservation at 8:15pm. The logistical decisions and bad luck continued because there was a large party of ~10 also seated upstairs and they took priority over us. Our entrees arrived 45 minutes later (9pm by now). By this time, my family was very hungry and a little mad at the situation. I felt disrespected for the circumstances. The staff was nice, but actions were speaking louder than words. I usually rave about food in my reviews, but the long wait and how situations were handled (there were more I'm not describing) colored our special evening out and how the bites were received. Our evening at Sale Pepe turned out to be a low light, instead of the highlight I expected, from our Maui holiday.

Maui morning adventure: Destination Papi's Ohana for the now infamous King David Cinnamon Roll. I got in line at 5:30 am with lightening and thunder threatening to open the skies on all of us waiting on line for a sweet treat. [They have a coffee window that opens at 6am so you can have your coffee while you wait.] In line behind me were two young ladies from Wisconsin who woke up and walked early in the morning from Whalers Village and another couple from Phoenix Arizona. Both were on their last day in Maui and waited all week to be in this line. Just as we got to the front of the line, the skies opened up and poured rain on all those still waiting ala March's crazy 'Kona Storm.' I drove the young ladies back to their hotel so they didn't have to walk in the rain and even picked up a roll for our new friends from our hotel who were still warmly tucked in bed. Verdict: 10/10 worth the wait! Light, delicate, almost croissant like texture roll with a light glaze. Melt in your mouth deliciousness. Where: in Kaanapali basically across from the Times Market next to the Food Truck lot. We drove by and I saw "cinnamon rolls" and I knew instantly that Papi's was going to be amazing. We went inside and the dearest couple and their son greeted us warmly as David, the Dad, was tossing and kneading the largest mound of fresh dough I have ever seen one person handle. My childhood memories of my Mom's homemade cinnamon rolls flooded my heart and I felt like I was home again for a brief moment. I just knew I finally found cinnamon rolls that could compare to my Mom's rolls. I bought the "King David" and shared it with my Hubs.
