I love Papas Tapas! I went with a meetup group called, The Cultural Singles! It was a culinary around the world tour: Spain. We started at the bar with amazing sangrias. Michael was our fun bartender. I ordered Pulpo Tapas! Octopus! Sautéed octopus with fresh garlic, olive oil and wine. OMG! It's a must order. It was still sizzling when they brought it to me. Thank you Deanna,our waitress, for the recommendation! So succulent! For my entree, I ordered the Shredded Roasted Pork. Slow roasted pork marinated in their homemade mojo sauce then sauteed with onions. It's served with saffron rice, black beans, and sweet plantains. Nom, nom, nom! It's a very busy place, so I suggest a reservation be made. I highly recommend this place and I am so happy it's nearby. read more

Very disappointed in this restaurant. I spent $60 on parrillada to only receive 5 clams, 2 scallops, and 4 shrimp. The rest was just filled with potato's and 5 big mussels that took up space. This was supposed to be parrillada for 2, but me and another person, who are both petite and not big eaters, we're still left hungry. It was an absurd amount of money for such little food. Normally the food is good but I don't know what happened with this dish. Very disappointed. I don't recommend any one to get this dish. read more

This is an amazing place in Delray! I recommend this Spanish tapas restaurant to tourists and locals. I was recently visiting friends and family and had dined here twice! Our first time dining here was a small tapas meal of olives, pollo al ajillo, and octopus in garlic and white wine sauce. It was delicious and we knew we wanted to come back before we left. So we came back! We went on a Thursday night and they had live music playing. It wasn't loud and added a nice ambiance. This time I came with a relative and my fiancé. We ordered about 7 dishes off their tapas menu. We even went with their special for the evening which was pork on top of a remoulade and on a tostone. It was scrumptious! The three of us shared a bottle of their white Rioja wine. It was delicious and paired well with all the dishes we ordered. We had shrimp, empanadas, olives, chicken, sausage and more. Each dish is cooked to perfection. Their cold tapas is artfully arranged and tastes great too. The severs bring the food as it is prepared. You get a basket of bread that has pieces for every person sitting at your table. It's made fresh and is constantly brought to you if you wish to dip it in their homemade sauce or in the delicious olive oil sauces that most of the dishes are prepared in. Every dish is fragrant and full of flavor. We ordered a dessert of tres leches cake. It was sweet, moist, and delicious. They even offer Cuban coffee for those who can't partake in the desserts but want to end the night with something sweet. Everyone seems to enjoy the atmosphere. The staff are friendly, efficient, and love to interact with the patrons. I enjoyed knowing they had Spanish wines and beers to serve along with popular name brands. One of our favorite restaurants had a lengthy wait and I recalled that the highly touted Papas Tapas was close by. While I enjoyed my pork dish immensely, my girlfriend's mango basa was fried and so salty it was rendered inedible long before it made it's way to the table. We were also shocked the fish was fried without any mention of that preparation in the item's description. Had she known she would have avoided the dish entirely and made another selection. I was rooting for the mango salsa as one would root for their favorite super hero. I prayed the salsa would counter the source of my angst. The mango salsa with it's sweet flavor quickly surrendered and stood no chance of countering the salt laden fish. I almost thought I was eating bacalao, but the realization hit me after each bite of fearful hesitation. After sampling the dish several times it was apparent it was not going to improve. My pork on the other hand was mouth watering. The downside is my girlfriend's dish was such a culinary trainwreck that she refuses to give the restaurant another chance. We came on a moderately busy Friday evening and were seated promptly. The restaurant is family-owned and, if you're new, they will tell you who is working where that night within the restaurant. Service was quick and friendly. We had the red sangria, which was delicious and fruity. The sauteed calamari was delicious, cooked to a tender perfection. We had the cilantro mango chicken, which was out of this world. If you don't dig cilantro, obviously, this isn't the plate for you. Cilantro has reached boyfriend status for me, though. Ok, this could easily have been a 5-star review, and the only reason it isn't is because they are limited on their vegetarian options. Most tapas places I've visited have a plethora of veggie options on the menu, but Papa's Tapas could do better in this area. Now that I've said that, I must say that the food we ordered was AMAZING! Because there weren't any veggie entree selections available, I broke my seafood rule and ordered a seafood dish anyhow. HOLY MOLY! Soooooo good! The Mariscada was seriously tasty and PERFECT (for a seafood dish)! The flavor was amazing (ok, I've said that twice now)! My husband had the Sauteed Shrimp with pista sauce (a flavorful red sauce with veggies) and loved it also. We started with the Hot Tapas menu and ordered the Kalen's Champiñones -- a little pricey at $11 for a vegetarian dish, but oh so good! Several of their menu items can be ordered without chorizo, and in effect, turning it into a vegetarian item, however, each entree comes with rice, beans, and plantains. Both the rice and beans are prepared in a chicken broth, so take note of that if you're adverse to chicken and ask for white rice, no beans, and sweet plantains. I will heartily eat here again, and may just take a browse through as many of the Tapas items as I can stomach, and skip the entree next time. Oh, almost forgot...get the white sangria. Seriously. I love coming to this restaurant when I visit Delray. Let me say first that the atmosphere here is great. It doesn't look too fancy from the outside but it's always inviting and fun once you get inside. The staff is extremely friendly and personable. Get to know Annie, the manager, as she always takes time to get to know her guests even when the restaurant is packed! There is also lots of cool artwork on the walls to look at while you are waiting for your food and enjoying a refreshing glass of sangria (definitely get the sangria). Okay, now let's get down to business: the food. They have a great selection of Spanish inspired dishes to choose from. The tapas menu seems like it changes quite a bit but I usually enjoy the empanadas. For an entree, I am a sucker for seafood and I especially enjoy their Cazuela dishes and of course the Paella. A solid tapas place. We went on a Saturday and it was jam packed and loud! So we sat outside where it was nice and quiet. We ordered a few plates, one of which was a meatball dish that said it was filled with almonds and dates. Sounded great on paper but were not very good. Best Taco Tuesday offering in Delray! My family & I usually go to another restaurant in the Pineapple Grove section of downtown for Taco Tuesday. The wait was absurdly long this past week so we walked a few blocks to Papa's Tapas. I don't think we'll be going back to the other restaurant again! Not that the other establishment isn't great, but Papa's Tapas is THAT. MUCH. BETTER. When I say "the best pork tacos in Delray,' I sincerely mean it! Our server was a gem & the other waitstaff was happy to visit our table, keep our water glasses full & have a polite, casual conversation. Everyone was so kind, accommodating & friendly. Tacos were $3 a piece. I'm all about that price tag :) Atmosphere is sophisticated but not stuffy. There were several customers at the bar, so I'd be willing to bet they offer some great cocktails. Although we went for Taco Tuesday, we did peruse the regular menu & they have tons of options. It's pricey, but if those pork tacos are any indication, whatever you eat at Papa's will be incredible. Went on a Wednesday night around 7:45 for a romantic dinner with my gf. Literally only 4 people in the restaurant. Not sure who these guys pay for their 5 star rating, but I've had better seafood at a Red Lobster. The Paella they explicitly tell you takes 45min to 1hrs(To make to perfection as advertised) magically came out in 20 minutes. No infamous "paella crust" in the pan. It was like eating Uncle Ben's with un-bearded or washed mussels and clams that were way passed there harvest date (spoiled and full of sand), pre-frozen shrimp and bay scallops, and calamari that was questionable in freshness as well. The server was nice, the Cuban sandwich was average. As a chef, if you only have 4 customers in your dining room, those meals had better come out damn near perfect. Having to watch the kitchen staff play grab-ass whilst getting sub par food, was another demonstration of their lack of pride. DID I MENTION THIS PLACE IS EXTREMELY OVER PRICED? First of all, Finding decent food at anything near a reasonable price in Pineapple Grove is a lost cause for the most part. Papas Tapas has great Chicken Quesadilla on the lunch menu its large enough the I usually hold half for dinner. On top of that the price is less than $10.00. I normally just place my order and walk over, sometimes I sit there and eat at the bar other times I carry out. The one thing that is always good is the food. Bottom line great food great price. Wonderful little place. Having spent a lot of time in Spain, I can say their dishes are not only authentic, but truly delicious. Flavor was filled with garlic, cilantro and heat. We loved the fact that they had full plates in addition to tapas. For dinner he had the cilantro mango chicken. Again, seasoned with Spanish spices and the chicken breast was tender. I had the roast pork. Omg. Better than the best in Hialeah. My son had the cheese quesadillas. Surprise LOL.
