Being from Louisiana and going often to New Orleans the French quarter vibe did not do it for me but it was cute. I was not very impressed with the menu but I should have looked at it before going as I was looking for traditional breakfast. Beignets were okay but nothing close to what I am used to. The Petes Muffaletta Panino was nothing spectacular to be on the "top 100 in Alabama". It felt like a sandwich that could be made at home. Now open for dinner Thu - Sat. Signature cocktail list. Pasta is all house made fresh. There is no comparison to a dish made with fresh versus dried pasta. We had Gulf Shrimp Scampi and Carbonara. Fresh chopped garlic, lemon and parsley in the Scampi. The Carbonara was the best I've had outside of Italy. We also had a meatball appetizer and a half order of bread that came with fresh Marzano tomatoes. Just absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back. They also give a 15% military discount! I think this place is way overrated. Went on a weekend and they were out of beignets. Super bummer. I got the turkey panini which was supposed to be one of the best things on the menu. I ordered a delicious turkey pannini, and my wife ordered and told our waiter "Hamp" that she was going to split it with my sister in law, and to our surprise he was smart enough to bring the Chicken Salad sandwich already split into two plates! 5 star beignets, that is the entire review. These are certainly not Cafe du Monde beignets- the ones at Panini Pete's are miraculously airy and light. It's seriously an incredible bite. I was astounded. The dough was hot and gave the slightest familiar savory buttery flavor that a good doughnut has. Don't get fooled by the nice comment by Guy Feri on the menu selection Muffeleta on Sourdough bread with all fixing, because it ain't true. This muffeleta was a big shock in it's appearance and had zero taste. It didn't have enough olive salad between the bread slices. A real muffeleta is on poboy bread and loaded with meat and vegetables. It wasn't worth $13.00 plus at all, and the French fries were thin sticks. This is a wonderful hidden gem in Fairhope's "French Quarter" (which is aptly named since it's the size of a quarter and if you drive to the light on the corner you'll completely miss it). I like to park in the Greers parking lot across the street since there's little to no on street parking. When you walk beneath the wrought iron ivy-covered stairwell that leads to Panini Pete's and the handfull of shops that surround it, it's like walking into a tiny corner on New Orleans. With the exception of local waterfront restaurants, The atmosphere at Panini Pete's really has no parallel on the entire eastern shore. There's a quaint and beautiful indoor atrium to dine in as well as outdoor seating near a tinkling fountain. There also an overflow room which is great because this place is always hopping, and with good reason. Everything is in the old New Orleans style. The food is excellent. I used to live in a vegas and became quite the foodie as a result. This place has food comparable to Vegas' better gourmet burger dives. There are few places here that can boast a better burger. They are gourmet, with toppings like goat cheese and arugula. Not your average fast food burger. You'll pay, but it's worth it. I've also noted they haven't increased prices since covid or if they have it wasn't much, so you're still paying pre-covid prices for a really delicious meal. There are other offerings as well. Try the rosary chicken sandwich if you're not into beef. Their skinny fries are a nice change and their chips appear to be fresh made on premises. I have never had anything but excellent service here. Be sure to tip well, these folks deserve it! They do have a bathroom that is outdoors but it's usually well attended despite being only one stall per gender. My only complaint is I wish they were open longer hours! read more
