This place is sometimes perceived as a vegetarian or health food restaurant but don't be deceived because we found discovered a stylish and creative restaurant with delicious food serving nice portions at good prices that also that just happens to make accommodations for those with food allergies and sensitivities. Cool! Their menu is varied for both vegetarians and meat eaters too with interesting influences from Thai curry and cranberry chicken salad to taco salad, Jamaican jerk to Greek salad. We started out with a special spniach and artichoke pizza that was simply amazing, seriously maybe the best pizza combination I have ever tasted, it was sensational. My honey the Mediterranean turkey wrap that came with a salad and hummus and pita points. She really enjoyed her wrap, the salad was good and that hummus was terrific! I opted for the Thai wrap which is a terrific spiced chicken, spring mix, green onions, Roma tomatoes with a fresh peanut sauce in a big delicious grilled wrap. Mine also came with my choices of salad and hummus. We wrapped it up with a shared piece of Key lime pie, yummy. What a hidden gem! I was told about this restaurant by a friend and although I had been to that shopping center many times, I honestly never noticed it. (Management- get a bigger sign!!) So one day after working out at planet fitness, I typed the address into GPS and was able to find it on foot. The atmosphere is quiet, simple, comfortable and inviting. The restaurant is clean. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I ordered soup of the day and it was delicious. I practically licked the bowl clean. I enjoyed my experience so much I came back the same week with my boyfriend and we ordered the hummus and pita as an appetizer (excellent). He had the tuna fish sandwich with side salad and enjoyed it. I had a different soup of the day and was equally as impressed. I am not a vegetarian or vegan, but I do like to try to eat healthy. I generally prefer getting takeout, now especially with COVID, but also because the inside is not very comfortable. There are a lot of vents blowing cold air, no booths, and a relatively small dining space. That being said, however, their food is some of the most delicious and freshest I have been able to find. They have vegan (and nonvegan) food of all kinds: salads, sandwiches, soups, wraps, and stir-fry. My mom and I actually ate in the restaurant this time, and it was excellent. I ordered the "Sunflower salad" with sautéed tempeh (they sauté it with a ponzu sauce) and a green tea. My mom ordered crab cakes, a side salad, and a raspberry iced tea. I have also included a picture of the black bean burrito she usually orders, as well as the baba ghanoush that I adore. All of our food was made fresh, but didn't take more than 10 minutes. Portions are very decent. There was only one server present, but she was very kind and attentive. I believe they take adequate steps to prevent COVID-19 transmission. There is hand sanitizer available, the servers and customers both wear masks, and tables are appropriately spaced. The only negative is the small dining space, where it is hard to navigate without coming close to other diners. Eco-wise, they are excellent. Their to-go boxes and cups are paper, and they always ask if you need utensils rather than including them automatically. In the restaurant, all the food and drink is served with glassware and metal cutlery. Also, they locally and sustainably source all of their food possible. A fun fact about this restaurant: there are 2 locations, one in Fairhope and one in Mobile, and both are attached to a local health food store. tl;dr- Great food, but more suited to take-out than dine-in. I love this cute spot! It is very quiet and has an incredibly unique menu filled with very healthy dishes. As an appetizer I ordered the hummus, such a classic and amazing choice! I highly recommend ordering the wheat bread, I tried the white bread as well, but the wheat bread just added a new flavor to the dish. As my entree I ordered the taco salad which includes a bed of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, their homemade black bean dip, and cilantro lime dressing. The salad also includes a side of blue corn chips. Unlike the Mobile location, this cafe is next door to the Fairhope Health Food store instead of inside the actual store itself. We discovered Sunflower Cafe almost a year ago when we were traveling back from Gulf Shores to Oklahoma City and have been back about 6 times now - every time we're in the area. We drive almost an hour to come here, the food is that good. We came today (Sunday) not realizing they didn't have their regular menu but a brunch menu instead. At first we were disappointed but once we tried their vegan breakfast burrito, wow, it knocked our socks off! We've never had anything at Sunflower Cafe that wasn't terrific - the hummus, the soup, the wraps, the pastas... everything is wonderful. Perhaps as good as the food is one of the wonderful young people who work there, Rufus. Rufus is so personable. When we were there for our second visit, 3 months after we'd been there the first time, Rufus remembered us and even remembered our son who had been with us the first time. We struck up a conversation with him then and now it feels like going to visit an old friend every time we come by. If every restaurant had that kind of person working for them who had that kind of customer service, they'd never get a bad review. We will keep coming back to Sunflower Cafe as often as we can and we hope Rufus is always there to visit with us! read more

I think there is an unfounded misconception that people who are vegan are spacey. However, places like the Sunflower Cafe don't help to dispel this notion. I went in yesterday to buy 2 key lime pies. Very simple! I went to the counter and told the lady what I wanted, so she told me to sit down and she'd bring it to me. She could have checked me out but instead I sat for ten minutes until she brought it to me. Then she had me wait another five minutes until she brought the bill, which she took back with my card. She brought the bill back but it was full of all the other customers receipts so I brought it up to the counter and handed it to her. I guess she thought I had the right one, which was sitting on the counter. I signed it there and left. We paid 12 bucks for two SMALL slices of key lime. Very disappointed!! :( We were vegan for a year and a half, and we ate at the Sunflower twice. The guy working the counter was awesome, really nice! I don't know where he went but he needs to come back! Theres a health food store next to the Sunflower that is affiliated with it I believe and the service there was really bad too. I just think when you are doing something that people are skeptical of, you should go out of your way to be professional and kind because you're an ambassador for your product or way of life. Needless to say, I'm a professional carnivore again (in moderation) and I feel great.... I haven't eaten here in a while but when I did the food was pretty good.
