Bad experience. I had been to other Panera Bread locations before so I thought it was a safe bet for a late afternoon lunch. WRONG! First, I waited quite a while - over 15 minutes before I finally went and retrieved the sandwich myself. It was cold and not thoroughly cooked. However, I was famished so I did not take it back. Downstairs, I saw at least 3 rather good-sized roaches scurring about. Mmm - famished or not, I suddenly lost my appetite. Students or web surfers occupied far too many tables. His management make this place running so very smoothly and professionally. You feel like you're in France with great atmosphere and wonderful staff. If it wasn't for my weekly meeting, I would never step foot in this Panera ever again. Why does their food taste like plastic and cardboard? It's really a mystery. Their soup is soggy not savory, room temperature when it should be warm/hot, salads looking sad with anything but fresh vegetables, and worst of all the service is so slow and careless. The bathrooms never lock well so people are constantly barging in while you're minding your business, and the whole place is just not clean altogether. Ugh. I went here to grab a quick sandwich for carry out, and I ended up ordering a tomato mozzarella flat bread. When I looked at my receipt, they had charged me for a chicken BBQ flatbread as well, which I definitely did not order. Pros include that they are open til 10 on week nights, have ample seating downstairs, and offer pretty reliable complimentary internet (may be worth confirming when you order if you're there to work). Some of the staff running orders are remarkably helpful, too. Cons: I've had dirty silverware multiple times in a row (spoons which appeared to have been run thru a dishwasher yet had food caked on). When you get multiple sets of silverware and they're all dirty, it's pretty unappetizing. The seating area is also in need of a good cleaning by dinner time. And ditto what another review said about not having any recycling for all that plastic. What year is this? Food; consistent, pretty tasty. I've never been particularly impressed with Panera food because I feel like they brand themselves on fresh, higher-end food and experience, yet it seems like they finally realized they should take basic steps toward that end, like taking out additives. Since you can get their soup at the grocery store, I'm guessing it still comes in big plastic bags dumped into a pot behind the counter to warm. I used to come to this Panera to study. Between forgetting to deliver salads until they were soggy, the bathrooms lacking soap, and attention from one of the managers in a way that made me uncomfortable, it wasn't a very enjoyable experience. The Starbucks across the circle has an equivalent number of plugs, sunlight, soap in their bathrooms, and nice, appropriate staff. read more

I am not one to usually complain about things or post a negative review online. However, the service has been so bad lately, that I feel it's necessary to post a review here. I order breakfast or lunch maybe 2 to 4 times a month. More than half of my orders at this location in the past four months have been either wrong, cold, when they should be hot, if not at least warm, or had hairs found in my food (this has happened twice). Now why I have continued to come back after hair was found even once, I don't know. Call it desperation because this location is so close to my office. But the response from the current managers has been inadequate. Instead of crediting me back immediately, I was told to let Lawrence know the next time I come in and my meal will be on him. The problem is, I place my orders online so there's no way to let Lawrence know unless I go in person and often I'm in such a hurry to get in and out that I can't wait in lines during lunch because it takes too long. Today, I placed my order on my Panera app and and when I went to pick it up they said it never came through. I can see it on my recent orders and I was charged, which I showed them. There response was they could not credit me for something that didn't come through even though he saw the charge on my credit card. I understand they get busy, but you are in the business of customer service and quite frankly you are not doing a good job. The only reason I didn't give them 1 Star was because it didn't used to be like this. Mistakes happened, but the managers were always quick to refund me or fix my meal without my asking. 2.5 stars but I usually round so 3 is how many I clicked on. I have been going to Panera over 10 years. I've had it in tons of cities so I'm pretty familiar how things go. I wish this Panera could compete with the new one at 7th and H St. Perhaps the issue with this location is that at one point it was too good. It is always crowded here, which is usually a good thing, but it may be too much for the staff and management. This location being packed morning, noon, and night, is too much for the staff, which usually results in wrong orders being put into the computer, or sandwiches made incorrectly, or forgetting to give you your chips or soup. Sometimes during lunch orders are given to the wrong person but management does its best to prevent such from happening. They also often run out of items, so your bacon turkey bravo may not get made on tomato basil, or your baguette may end up being extra chips instead. They make good food, so I guess for the best experience, try to find a day or time when it's not so crowded and double check your order before you leave. read more

I love panera but this specific location is a downgrade from what Panera stands for..it may just be the location. It's in a very busy and touristic area so the service sucks. I stayed in DC 4 days and had lunch and dinner here and both times my orders were incomplete. Sever brought my order w/o salad dressing as she yelled "I did it I did it"! As if she was proud she completed the order on her own but when I dug into the salad it was dry no dressing when I asked her for salad dressing she looked like a deer In headlights! The cashier who took out order was rude and on her phone oh and did I mention eating bread while taking our order. Granted I was indecisive and made her wait a bit but I still feel she should have been more professional. The second visit my pastry was not given to me and hadn't noticed until I was getting ready to walk out again...I just think it's in busy and crowded place so it can make it distracting for the employees. This is a popular tourist/metro stop so I expected long lines, surly help, so-so fare, but it is close to my new job. So I have been very pleasantly surprised that the lines are not long at all (although I try to get there between usual mealtimes) and the food has been great--especially the Chinese-cashew chicken salad! But the high point is Lauren. Lauren womans one of the cash registers and she is always so pleasant and welcoming, I enjoy going there. It doesn't seem fake, either, it is as though she really likes meeting you. She is great and I hope they pay her well. read more

I've been to this location several times. I love the downstairs section, where you can use the outlets and get some work done (there is free Wifi that I've never had a problem with). This rating is purely towards their customer service/catering service. My business has ordered from this location twice to cater two small lunches (first lunch was 9 people, second was 3). The first order was an hour late but it had snowed that morning and so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. The second order? Never arrived. First, they called in the morning to tell us they were all out of ingredients for the BBQ Chicken salad. Seemed surprising they were out but whatever, fine. We changed our order. We had requested the delivery for 11:30-12:00 as our lunch meeting was 12-1. The food never showed. A colleague called them every 5 minutes for an update and the catering employee kept saying, "the driver is 5-10 minutes away" which wasn't true because we started calling at 12:10 and by the time I got on the phone with her, it was 1:05. After telling them how utterly ridiculous it is for a CATERING company to be so late, I asked what she could do for me. She couldn't say or do anything without talking to her catering manager who she said would be in later. The Panera employee called the driver AGAIN and said he'd be here in 7 minutes. By that time, I said to cancel the order. It was 1:10, the food (THREE SALADS!) was an hour and a half late. She started to protest saying the food would be there shortly but after I said that she had been saying that for the past hour, she shut up. I asked for the Panera customer service line but she said there wasn't one. Seriously? Incredibly inappropriate and utterly laughable. Panera Catering? A joke. Whoever the driver was should be let go immediately. The sun was shining and the roads were fine. They could not blame it on the weather nor the traffic because they're located a mile a way. Go to them for yourself, sure, but do NOT use them for their catering. You'll never get your food. read more

The food at this panera is just the same as every other one, and it is good so that is not why I gave it the low rating. It is the service, the excessively long wait time, and the way the place is set up. First, in the mornings the lines are very long. The people running the registers actually move things pretty quickly. They have it set up so if you just want a bagel or a pastry they get those right away even if toasted and that is a good idea. The issue becomes if you want to get a drink such as a smoothie, or a frozen lemonade or anything other than a regular coffee. Expect a good 15 minute wait for that. In fact I've gone in three mornings this week and my bagel was cold by the time I got my drink. I thought it may have been a fluke but three days in a row, I'm done. And it's clear that people are waiting for drinks for a VERY long time which people ordering sandwiches or meals have a five minute or less wait. It seems they do not have enough people making drinks and too many people making food it needs to be more equal because there are just as many if not more people ordering drinks! Also the way the wait area is set up there is no where to go. You have to stand right in front of the soda machine and people are constantly pushing and you have to move out of the way. One time I had to go down the stairs there were so many people. If you want food this is probably a fine location. But a drink? Go up the street to Starbucks unless you want to be late for work every morning. read more

First off, I had never been to a Panera before this one, so I have to give it all the props because I don't have anything to compare it to. I first saw it when I started working in the Dupont area in September, I never had a chance to go to Lawsons or even see that it was there. My boyfriend was excited about it, so I figured it was good. I went there on the first week of its opening and it was REALLY. good. I don't use the free wifi so I can't complain about the plug-points or internet shutting off. The food is great though, the bakery is amazing... especially the muffins. Also, the best sandwich they have is the Sierra Turkey with extra chipotle sauce! ;) (it's a little dry if there's no extra sauce... so be sure to get it! haha.) read more
