I have not ate at Panera in years, but decided to revisit. We had a family feast and it was just average. It was good just nothing special. I actually enjoy the sandwiches from my local grocery store better. Plus, my local grocery store doesn't charge extra for swapping cheese types and adding avocado. The caesar salad was only slightly better than the bagged salad kits at the grocery store. More specifically, the croutons were better. If someone bought me a sandwich or was taking a lunch order from here, I'd eat a sandwich from here, but I wouldn't stop to get one. read more

Great service. The staff has gone out of their way to help me; even the manager has come over to make sure I received a discount that the person working the register had difficulty applying to my order. Last Thursday, I had the Flatbread pizza; it did the trick, sated for sure. Regarding store cleanliness, I've noticed three Panera Breads have been struggling in this area; my impressions are that the lack of staff most industries have been experiencing is the root cause, not so much incompetence and laziness. read more

This place is probably A-OK if you're eating there. When I was waiting for my to-go order I saw lots of hapy people eating and the folks in the kitchen were hustling. They were moving at speed and getting the orders out. The problem with to go is that when you get home or back to the office, etc., with your orders it really sucks if they've left an item out or made an odd substitution. You are not ready for COVID if you do not even have the right hrs of operation in your system. The Store worker tells they open at 10am, but store sign says it opened at 7am and the app tells me it opened at 9am. Hubby and I went on a weekday for an early dinner. I ordered a cup of french onion soup and grilled cheese sandwich. My husband also had the french onion soup with 1/2 a Caesar's salad. We shared a medium soda and a shortbread cookie. Our meal was under $20. Had I not eaten at Boudin's a few days earlier, I would have given Panera a higher rating. not very good service. I ordered the steak and cheese sandwiches and all they were skimpy on everything except the bread.

All I can say about this location is they need help. Not in terms of more people but new people and better environment. I don't get how every time I come here they run out of bread. I usually get off work at 6 and by the time I get here around 7 they should still have bread. Also the cashier at the front did not even greet us. There is no music playing in the eating area and all you can hear is the employees in the back talking. My food was half full in the bowl, I pretty much paid full price for half of the food. In the midst if all my freeway driving I like to stop off at this location. The folk are friendly, glad to see me and very helpful. Their pick two option is good because you can mix it up and order a soup and salad or soup and sandwich. Your choice! I like have options. Who doesn't? Grabbing a booth by the fire place is always great during the winter. It's a charming way to warm up on a rainy day. The lovely servers come around and check on you to make sure you have what you need. They'll even get a refill on your drink for you. That's amazing at a place like this. Stop on by sometime. This is probably my 3rd favorite Panera after the San Jose & Irvine locations. Definitely better than Oakland and slightly better than the one in Fremont. It made the top 3. I clearly spend a lot of time at Panera-- much of it spent comparing the different locations using strict and objective criteria; then, ranking them accordingly. Top marks for its location: it sits atop a hill in Pinole that if you look just beyond the freeway, you can see the bay. It's rather picturesque on a clear day like today. I visited this location twice back to back in 2 days. I don't know what it is about Panera (most likely the unlimited coffee & tea refills and the rewards program-- let's be honest) but despite recent events, it still is one of my favorite go-to study spots in all of the Bay Area. There are just so many locations and it's for the most part guaranteed (barring peak hours) that you will find a table unlike those chain coffee shops. Plus they feed you real food! -Downsides- Recently, though the internet was nonexistent but thanks to Verizon hot spot, I get the connection I need. Also, the rewards program system was down 2 days in a row so I had to add my visit inconveniently to my online account. Also, the floor under the table I like to study at (the one with an outlet) was dirty and had napkins scattered underneath. -Upsides- customer requests were acknowledged when I asked one of the employees to clean under the table with all the dirty napkins. She came back with a broom and dustpan rather quickly and cleaned up the mess. I also noticed the hot water dispenser ran out of water but when I asked another employee for more water not only did they fill my cup with hot water, they refilled the dispenser as well! Other than the customer service being on point, the interior was well lit because of all the windows allowing light to shine through. There were more upsides than downsides I thought. Given my assessment, this was definitely a place I felt like I could focus well and not to mention the food is usually tasty & fresh. I only knocked out one star because the internet didn't work. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE BY PHYIUS QUALLS! My receipt said white bread but they put it on wheat bread. Not a problem until she said with attitude"i would have to remake the whole thing for you" and then she said "you throw it away " so i did. I decided to wait for my sandwich by the counter. I waited 10 mins and saw she was not making it. So I asked and she said I'll start to make it right now. She gets my bread and mayo out. And then leaves it there. Another 10 mins go by and someone else threw it away by accident since it was sitting there so long. So I asked again and they finally gave me it. For someone new to the place, it's hard to get your bearings on how the place works. The order counters are obvious...but after that, it's pretty much hit and miss. There should have been signs on where to claim your food... My order was the Italian on flatbread. Since it took me time to figure out how the place worked, my flatbread was soggy...but there were still traces of how good the sandwich used to be. My order was efficiently taken. The food preparation staff were still in smiles, in spite of being at the lunchtime rush hour. I will come back and try them again. We like the food at Panera Bread but the order takers and the kitchen prep here are morons. Not once in the last 5 orders have we received exactly what was ordered. Our requests are simple- add spinach and gouda to a chicken sandwich. The order taker promised my husband this would be done. WE got the food home, unwrapped the packaging and "no gouda and no spinach". And since they charge extra for customization and don't EVER provide it, they are just screwing over customers. I hope the manager of this store reads this review and does something about it. Fire the staff that does not perform, I'm sure there are competent people out there. I usually like to study in Panera Bread locations, but the WiFi at this one was absolutely awful; it took over 30 seconds to load the google homepage. Monday May 30, 2016 8:30 pm Geeze, I just don't think Panera headquarters cares about this Pinole location. A lot of one star posts and no comments from Panera's headquarters. To me, this shows they have given up on this location and wants it to fail. :-( Tonight my wife and I arrived at 8:30 and was served by cashier Wendy. Wendy is super nice, very efficient and overall an excellent person to do business with. They should make her a District Manager. What's so disappointing, is Panera's General Manager, Jerel, just doesn't care enough to "take care of business." His mismanagement leads to constantly running out of food. For instance, tonight Jerel allowed the store to run out of Baguettes. Imagine that, a bread store running out of bread. That's like a liquor store running out of beer. Often times when I get ready to order, my first question is "what are you out of tonight ?" Also, tonight being cold outside, my wife and I like to sit at a booth near the gas fire place. Problem is it's not been working for 5-6 weeks. This tells me Jerel doesn't care enough for his customers to spend $20.00 to install a new thermocouple and get the fire place working. All the money Panera spends on advertising may have well go down a dark hole when Jerel doesn't hold up his end. This is not all me, look at a number of recent posts. I ask Wendy to have the District Manager, Erin, to call me. I can only assume Erin doesn't care about all the negative posts and the fire place not working for the past 5-6 weeks because if she cared, she would fixed the fire place, responded to all the negative posts and brought in a new General Manager who will not run out of bread. Also, the store personal are not allowed to give out the District Manager's contact information. What a dumb policy. It sends the message, "If you have a problem or praise, don't call me, I have more important things to do." Nothing is more important than taking care of the customers who put cash in your registrars. The place in general is shabby and run down, it's in dire need of a makeover. Management needs to freshen this place up because it's got a lot of foot traffic. The staff is friendly enough, lots of turnovers and it has an eclectic bunch. The food is a little less than consistent, but enough for me to overlook it most times. I used to love Panera, and I'm starting to lesser so. While they have a great menu, I don't always believe that their options are the healthiest. But, for soups, salads, sandwiches, and pastries, I find there to be a good selection. I also think it is easier to please a lot of palettes here. But on this Panera: 1. ORDERING: Slow as heck. They don't have those "place your own order" stations. Also, I didn't see any handheld menus that could expedite things by stating the ingredients. (Hey, it's great that the overhead menus state "New Recipe" but it only piques your interest. The cashiers are great about upselling but not so great at telling you how to make the most of your order. 2. DINING AREA: Kind of filthy every time I've come here. Also, the layout is super noisy and doesn't give you that "nook" ambience other Paneras have. 3. TABLE SERVICE: I've been to other Paneras where they have those RFID table scanners that tell the servers exactly which table you're sitting at. This Panera sometimes uses the electronic pagers (read: you still have to get up and get your own food). Or, they hand you a printed receipt and still make you get your own food. 4. PARKING: A hot mess. Getting in and out of here on any normal day feels ridiculous. All in all, I generally only visit this Panera when trying to accommodate a bunch of taste buds. Otherwise, it's not really bang for the buck. You're likely to spend more than $10 a head, which makes table service restaurants a lot more attractive. read more

I came here for tea and coffee and the new person who works there is very nice but not trained well charged me for soda instead of tea. She apologized but didn't know how to correct it. Someone else who stepped in to help tried to convince me that the tea and soda costed the same but the sign clearly said the prices in big letters and there is a big price difference between the two. I asked for green tea and they made me iced tea. I was told that they had decaf coffee but they had to brew it fresh because they stopped making decaf later in the day. Why would you discontinue decaf when it gets closer to bedtime and people are planning to sleep soon? I waited about 15 minutes for the decaf coffee and and had to explain what tea was for another 10 minutes. A total of 25 minutes lost when I could have been enjoying drinks with my friend. The carpet here is really dirty. Panera needs to work harder on training new staff and cleaning their restaurant. We had to clean up someone else's table in order to sit down. I literally just picked up my food. A half grilled cheese sandwich and this is what I get? The bread isn't even, like they ran out of bread and just stuck whatever piece was left. They also forgot to include a side of bread that's included with the meal, so they must've ran out of bread. The cheese inside is burnt and isn't even evenly coated on the sandwich. It looks like something I can make myself, but even I can make it better. Did they even try? I was really craving tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I tried to call the store to speak to a manager because this is unacceptable. But of course, the line is busy and no one wants to pick up the phone.
