It's been a few years and wanted to try them again. Unfortunately they have no customer service. Paid for my order of bagels over the phone. Ordered specific ones not to be sliced. What I received was the opposite. They were sliced and mostly plain. If you don't have what I ordered, please let me know and I won't waste my time. I didn't say to substitute my bagels and slice them. If you can't follow simple direction, I will be taking my business else wear. Maybe I'll give them 3 years next time. I decided to wait to post a review for this place since my first time here was terrible. On my first visit, the manager that brought my food to me pretty much slammed my tray on the table, snatched my order number, and just walked off. He was definitely not personable and that whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I was half way tempted to not go to this Panera again but I decided to give it a few more tries. After several more times of visiting here, I didn't have any more encounters with that manager and have been experiencing great service by other staff members/managers there. The food is delicious and the environment is warm and welcoming, perfect for socializing with friends or studying. Love it! Panera is ALWAYS out of ingredients! It's incredibly frustrating....I love fresh food and I understand such ingredients don't always keep as long but every single time you're out of something. This time it was sourdough bread, French onion soup, butternut squash soup and Pepperoni pizza.....how are you out of bread!?! I guess I'll take the 12th thing down the list I was hoping for... :/ Super disappointing and it's been this way for years. My first time at Panera, I walked in saw no one, directed myself to the rapid service there was someone standing there, back turned leaning against the wall. I RARELY rant about poor service in a restaurant. I usually just keep it to myself, thinking the servers are just over worked; however, today I'm going to rant. Over the years, I have had HUNDREDS of meals at Panera on Gateway, in Fairfield. No exaggeration - HUNDREDS. And over the past year or two (yes, during COVID), service has gotten worse. Today, I went in to get a flatbread pizza and a soda. It was almost 3:30 in the afternoon; and the restaurant was pretty much empty. First, there was nobody at the front counter, so I attempted to order at the kiosk. I was able to get the flatbread in, but the computer said the sodas were sold out - but there were cups at the kiosk. So, instead of stealing a soda, I backed out of the order, and tried the front counter. There were no pagers left at the kiosks, So I wouldn't have been able to complete the order anyway. While I waited, I could see a bunch of young ladies in the meal prep area, behind the pick-up window, talking and laughing. Now, I'm a firm believer in people having fun at work, but at least acknowledge your customers. Within a couple minutes, a young lady came to the counter. I went to order, and she said something about someone else helping me, and walked away. A couple minutes later, the same young lady came back to the counter and took my order. Then she said to the guy behind me, "Do you know what you want to order? I have something I have to do." That guy was smart - he forced her to take his order before she could walk away again. Afterwards, she returned to the meal prep area to continue her conversation with her co-workers. At some point, one of the employees was laughing, and shouted out the "F" word. So, I figure I would go to the bathroom while I wait. On the way, people were using the soda machine (obviously not sold out). In the men's room, the sit-down toilet was out of order. Fortunately, I didn't need that one. I did have to use the urinal, which was packed with wet (or urine soaked) paper towels. At exactly the twenty (20) minute mark from the time I ordered, I still hadn't received my food. In most places, this wouldn't be unusual, but the flatbread cooks in roughly ninety (90) seconds. So, I went up to the pick-up window, sadly - interrupting the "out of work" conversation that was going on - and explained that I had been waiting for twenty (20) minutes. The young lady, without acknowledging me - looked through the printed order receipts; found mine; and asked out loud, "Did anyone make this?" After no response, she handed the ticket to another employee and asked, "Can you make this?" Again, keep in mind, she never actually acknowledged me. Like, "Oh sorry. We forgot to make your order." She simply continued with her multi-employee conversation. I then went to get napkins. The dispenser was empty. Ok, I'll fill my soda up, and get a straw. Nope!!! No straws, but I did find one at the pick-up window. I stood there until my "dine-in" order was put in a "take-out" box and left on the prep table. I had to get someone's attention and ask, "Please - May I have my food." The employee put the box in my hand and walked away. Not a single word uttered. I know it been hard to hire during the pandemic, but this is my "go to" place!!! The service was beyond HORRIBLE. I used to work here and can I just say their hiring standards seem to have dropped way low. Rude. Called "excuse me" to a worker that was standing doing absolutely nothing multiple times and was blatantly ignored. Maybe he had his headphones in but that shouldn't even be an issue. I'm not one to drink coffee from a disposable paper cup. My husband is my own personal barista and I prefer coffee in porcelain cup with a saucer and a biscotti for dipping. But I really enjoyed the coffee here at Panera bread despite it being in a disposable paper cup (snobby aren't I). Of course my husband made the coffee at Panera bread (he owned 3 coffee houses with music venues in Los Angeles, he also is a winemaker). I enjoyed the chipotle chicken avocado sandwich with focaccia bread and my husband got the Italian with focaccia bread with the pickle on the side. This was a fun lunch date with my husband. It reminds me of the bakeries that we use to visit when we lived in Germany. To me it's pricey for sandwiches but I guess you pay for the environment also. Stopped at this Panera on the way back home to Sacramento from Santa Cruz. Unfortunately my family and I had to prolong our "pit stop" due to a dead battery :( I had asked some of the Panera employees if they had jumper cables as AAA was almost a 3 hour wait.. Holly offered to assist us as she had jumper cables in her car. Her kindness went a longer way than she thinks. We are very thankful for her help even though AAA happened to arrive at the same time. Aside to yummy food, the service that Holly extended to us was greatly appreciated. She even thanked me for choosing to visit THIS Panera location. I hope she is recognized just as much as an employee at Panera. :) read more

Big shout out to the manager. We were using the kiosk to order. The half salad my wife added to the pick 2 was over priced by about $2.50 on there. Rather than have us redo our order (a large one, for 6), she just gave us $5 cash to compensate. (I added the difference as a gratuity.) We had a mixup picking up our order. It looked like we were missing a soup, a salad, and a sandwich. We went back to pick up a second bag that we left behind. It had the soup and salad. We mentioned we still needed the sandwich. They said it would be ready in a couple of minutes. While we were waiting we realized the sandwich was on the table the whole time. I went back to tell them we didn't need the sandwich after all. It was already made. The manager said we could take it. It was supposed to just be a half sandwich, but it was a whole one, and with a bag of chips, to boot. Visted Panera Bread fairfield 1 week ago exactly. They were out of carbonation. Ghetto sign posted. The kiosk that you order your food is always down. They were out of Large cups. I'm not sure who is managing this facility but they are doing a poor job. If you have a sip club promotion going on you should never be out of cups or carbonation. How do you explain this? I had lunch yesterday at the Panera in Fairfield. My family chose to eat there because they wanted to eat somewhere that offered fresh and healthy choices. Boy, did they choose correctly. I was so impressed with their menu. I personally had one of their amazing salads and half of a turkey sandwich plus apple slices instead of chips. There were six of us and everyone ordered something different and we all loved our choices. We pulled a couple of table together and sat very comfortably in this very nice Panera. I can't wait to go back there again sometime soon. And for those of you who have a sweet tooth and should see what they have to offer. I'm giving 2 stars for the amazing cheese bagels. However, the customer service is lacking. The phone etiquette is horrendous. I called in for a simple to go order on my way 2 this location on a Sunday morning around 9am & was left on hold for over 10 minutes. I finally arrived & hung up as soon as I stood in line, making sure I laugh about it with the customer standing next 2 me in line SMH I know we live in suburbia right next 2 a big city, but that doesn't mean that customer service should be bad. On the contrary, it should be an absolute priority. Maybe hire more staff 2 accommodate the phone orders & take some pointers from the Dublin location? Doing business in CA isn't cheap, but if the disconnect isn't resolved, despite the wonderful ambience of your locale, your business will suffer. read more

We hosted a major event in Fairfield last week and ordered 130 box lunches for 11:30 AM. They did not arrive. At Noon, Panera called to say they would delivering 40 lunches. We had a huge crowd with no food. We trusted Panera and they completely failed us. We ended up having to order food from another restaurant and then at 1 PM Panera delivered the rest of the box lunches one hour and thirty minutes late. First time placing order online and time expected for order to be ready upon checkout was 5-10 minutes. Placed the order during a seminar nearby and when released for lunch break walked in and located the pick up station and order was ready to go. Definitely convenient and quick as the lunch rush hour was in full swing. Order was correct and staff was helpful in making sure I had utensils and napkins in place. I've been to this location a couple of times and staff has been helpful despite being busy. No issue here. Salads are filling and my go to dessert here is the gluten free triple chocolate chunk cookie. Decadent and simply fulfills my sweet tooth. Plenty seating that is well spaced out indoors, outdoor seating and fairly clean. I'll probably return if I'm in the area. read more

Today I ordered two salads and 4 of the new chicken sandwiches. The salads were great but the chicken sandwiches were terrible. All four sandwiches were cold. No warmth at all. Two were supposed to be spicy but no one could figure out which ones were spicy. Two had one piece of lettuce each and they looked they looked like they were wilted. Not super thrilled. Ordered a bagel toasted and soufflé, a coffee and 2 pastries. Waited 30 minutes for said bagel to be toasted. Took bag got in car and left and later realized it took them 30 minutes to toast a bagel and put a soufflé in a box and they didn't give the 2 pastries I had paid for. We went here last night to grab some of their mini scones for my daughter. Ordered and paid through their self order/checkout monitors, only to be told that they just sold the last ones. We got refunded. And was thinking of just ordering something else, but then Gina, the very nice and awesome manager offered us an Orange scone and chocolate chip to try! We're very thankful! Even though it's been a while since this place opened, the lines are still insanely long! And more often than not, the staff forgets the order :-/ During the rush, you can see the stress on the workers faces, NOT A GOOD LOOK! But as far as the food and drinks...2 thumbs up. The fruit smoothies are great. And the menu offers a variety of low calorie options. My favorite special is the "you pick 2"...It allows you any 2 half orders of cafe sandwich or soup/salad. I've been to Panera Bread twice and the first time I was not impressed. Sure, I was on a two day drinking binge and could not remember what I ordered. As a result, I needed to give Panera another (sober) attempt. I stared at the menu carefully and a lot of the item sound great, such as the signaute panini's, cafe sandwiches, salads, etc. I went with the UPICK2 option, which allows you to pick any two items off the entire menu and a side of a either a baguette, chips or an apple. I skipped the soup option and ordered the Asian sesame chicken salad and a new sandwich on the menu, the steak balsamico. I tried going with low calorie options and Panera has plenty of them. The food came out in 10 minutes or so and it all looked appetizing. Portions are generous fot the $9.54 I spent on the two items, not including tax. The salad tasted fresh and wasn't smothered in dressing, which can be the case at a lot of other places. The salad felt especially healthy with all their trimmings including almonds, sesame seeds, and wonton strips. The newly added sandwich was delicious. It featured seared sirloin, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, spinach, and a tomoato & basil balsamic spread on a ciabatta roll. The ciabatta was freshly pressed and nicely toasted, with a perfect combination of sirloin and mozzarella cheese. I'm glad I went out of my way to try Panera Bread once more. I took my time looking over the menu and ordered two great items. All the ingredients tasted fresh, the food was delicious and healthy, all while being greatly affordable. You can't beat a salad, a panini, and a side item for under $10. Panera Bread is a great alternative for those tired of $5 sandwiches from Subway. This is a VERY pleasant surprise! Finally Fairfield is offering more healthy options to dine in around the City. The service is fantastic and the salads and half sandwiches are a blessing to folks like me counting calories. This is a family environment no doubt. I will share 1 story that occurred last week that I thought was rude by the patrons... you've got families, kids, grand parents dining at this great establishment but once in a while those knuckle head juveniles show up and can't appreciate good taste. This was my first time in Panera and the staff dutifully chimed out "Welcome". I didn't understand how their process worked since there were kiosks, order counter, but no menus. The girl behind the counter, although, she was nice, was NOT VERY helpful. She did try to read a prepared list from behind the counter of the items I asked about. The menu overhead only stated the name of the item, but no description. It seemed that maybe she had not worked there very long or not experienced enough. She did not have a name tag on like most of the other employees in the eatery. Counter girl was nice, but actually made things so much more confusing! Once I finally placed order, I stood and waited because I didn't know you have to go to the back of the eatery to get your food. Counter girl finally told me to go look for my name on the ipad for my food. After standing and watching the board for my name, the kitchen staff told me that my name would not appear on the board since I was eating in the facility and they would call out my name. Oh! Finally, got my food which was 1/2 sandwich and Asian Salad. HaHaHa...the Asian salad was a huge bowl of lettuce with less than 1 tablespoon of minced dark chicken and TINY sprinkles of crunchy topping on top of the huge bowl of lettuce. I got 2 containers of sauce which were only 1/2 filled. Big disappointment! The sandwich was slapped together like a bad cafeteria line ensemble, but didn't taste too bad. My friend ordered a bowl with broccoli, chicken and mostly brown rice. However, she is a very small eater and the size of this bowl was small enough for her to finish. Not sure what size the 1/2 bowl portion would have been, but this seemed like a 1/2 bowl portion. The best part of this experience was Artrice Helton. She seemed to be very enthusiastic about her job, helping the other employees, and knowledgeable about the Panera product. The food is fresh. The manager is attentive. Here's my experience: I ordered through the self-checkout which was pain free and easy. The payment was easy, too. Sometimes this can be a hangup. I grabbed my buzzer and sat down. A couple minutes later my meal was ready and everything was perfect! I was able to customize my sandwich at the kiosk, so seeing the results was pleasing. When I grabbed my plate from the counter, my sandwich top fell to the floor. I think I was in a hurry and moved the plate too fast. The manager immediately noticed and orchestrated a new sandwich top to be delivered to my table. I didn't even ask! World class service here.
