Been here 3 times. Excellent food, bad staff. Seemed very confused and took a long time to take my order.

I ordered a pick two with macaroni and cheese and broccoli cheddar soup. My macaroni and cheese is so cold that I had to put it on the microwave. Its not even lukewarm or anywhere near it. It tastes like it came straight out of the refrigerator. I am quite upset and disappointed. I'm afraid to touch my soup now. I should have known something was amiss when my bag wasn't warm when I picked it up. read more

I really like the steel cut oatmeal for breakfast! Coffee is decent as well as the baked goods. However, my order is messed up constantly. I asked for a half a sandwich and was charged for a whole sandwich which they put on a flatbread instead of the actual bread it comes with. Sandwich was gross. Stick to baked goods and oatmeal here! read more

I still love this Panera for the same reasons. However, they lose a star because they actually only let you online for 30 minutes from 11am to 2pm. For those of us who use it as a work spot, this means you basically have to leave before noon. It's true that it gives this warning on the national panera website, but it's just recently been "enforced" at this location, and it is not the case at the panera on the other side of town near 15-501. I used to eat breakfast and lunch, but now I just eat breakfast and head across the street to George's Java to work in the afternoon. I'm quite confident that this practice is leading to lost revenue and ill-will. I don't think that they are going to run out of tables due to the few of us who sit at tiny tables and order food all day. read more

Every time I come to this location I'm surprised at how bad it is. It's almost never clean. This time I got to the register and the person working walked away I waited for close to 10 minutes. I wanted coffee with my meal and all of the carafes were empty. I figured since it was a new location they were working the bugs out but at this point I don't think they have it sorted out read more

Stopped in for one of their delicious-looking cinnamon coffee cakes to serve at our teacher meeting that day... little did we know, it was stale as all get out. I called the store and spoke with the manager, and yes, he apologized - what else could he do after we paid $15 for their stale dessert? He offered to send us a coupon for a free pick two and a drink. To be honest, I wasn't impressed. A pick two costs less than $10, so I'm not sure what he was thinking, but anyway. That was three weeks ago; no coupon ever came in the mail. There are many great bakeries within walking distance of this Panera. Mad Hatter, Whole Foods, etc etc. Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere. I meant to post this review a couple of weeks ago when I last visited this location but time got away from me. Maybe by now the men's restroom has been cleaned, I hope so. Food was OK although all Panera's food portions have shrunken while the prices have risen. I went to use the restroom and was appalled by the condition. Huge puddle at the urinal and some unknown liquid puddled all along the wall near the sink. Maybe just water but why was it there? Gross. read more

The only complaint I have is the lack of room they offer their guests. Being located in a college town and the day of our visit it was hard to find a table. College kids sitting at tables for a long length of time, not eating or drinking. They took up booths and large tables to do homework or surf the free net. In my opinion if your not eating, leave and let those who are true customers enjoy their meal. Today's kids are just rude.. Management needs to put their foot down or turn off the internet. read more

Consistent. Lots of seats for studying. Gets crowded at lunch, seating can be sparse then.

The woman behind the counter was great! Fast, competent and pleasant. A little too much dressing on the salad.

Panara has always been my go-to for those times I'm running errands and just don't know what I want. Over the years it's gone down hill and I think this will be my last visit. This is not the Panara that it first was. Staff seems to not care at all anymore, bathrooms are increasingly dirty, and parking is always an unknown. Not worth it anymore - I'll hit a fast food restaurant before coming back here. read more

Truly dreadful, low-quality food. You really get the sense that an executive committee somewhere evaluated every aspect of the food preparation process to trim costs as much as possible, while still maintaining the facade of offering a nicer meal than a typical fast food restaurant. Unfortunately, they missed the mark. I had the turkey cranberry flatbread and French onion soup. The soup tasted like it was made from those little bouillon cubes (just add water!) with some onions tossed in. A thick layer of cheese (one place they didn't scrimp) was probably intended to conceal the tastelessness of the soup. The flatbread was even worse. Dry chunks of microwaved turkey, runny cranberry sauce, and spinach leaves in what was essentially a thick pita pocket. Yuck. read more

This Panera has a fair number of not-so-great reviews, some of which seem well-founded (they forgot someone's catering order) and others seem silly. This is Panera Bread, not some hipster artisanal sandwich joint. So let's compare apples to apples. As Panera Breads go, the service here is great. Today, I went in for lunch and there was a long line, so I ordered and paid at the kiosk and had my food in five minutes. There were not a lot of open tables, but it was 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday. It's lunch time. I found a spot and enjoyed my You Pick Two--grilled cheese and tomato soup today, since it was rainy and gross outside. The tomato soup is delicious, and the grilled cheese is a white bread and American cheese classic style sandwich. Exactly what I wanted. I've been here a number of times and eaten a number of lunch items and pastries. I've always either left satisfied or had a very helpful manager resolves the situation (once). If you attend or work at Duke east campus, the location can't be beat. There's wifi, and it's limited to 30 minutes during peak periods, which is totally reasonable. If you come here frequently, make sure to sign up for their rewards program and you'll start accumulating freebies in no time. read more

I had lunch from this Panera location today, which was placed by someone else as an advance (36-48 hours ahead of time) order that we took to another location for a meeting. Out of 4 orders of 3 salads and 1 soup/sandwich combo, they got two salads wrong. One had the wrong dressing (it was put with my salad), and mine was the biggest screw-up. I had customized a seasonal greens salad, adding and subtracting ingredients in the online ordering app. They left on an ingredient I had unchecked to leave off, left out one of the additional ingredients I asked for, and got the dressing wrong. In addition, they charged us for bottled water which we ordered but they left out of the bag. Since we ordered in advance and picked up well before lunch hour, I don't see why it was so hard to get this correct. And if it's hard for the employees to customize based on the interface on their end, they should complain that it doesn't work well for them, and take more care. This felt like, "I don't care, I'm just slinging ingredients together." Glad I didn't have to pay for this food. read more

This is my "home/go-to Panera and it's great! The service is really good, especially the blonde girl who works behind the register during the afternoons on weekdays (maybe her name is Lindsay?). The dining space is clean and the noise level is good for studying. There are also plenty of outlets. This Panera was even open on the day that Durham got a foot of snow a few months ago - one of the only open places around! No complaints, just not giving it five starts because it's well...you know...Panera, not a gourmet restaurant. read more

Very disappointed. The ads on TV show great looking food and that is not what you get. Ordered the steak and cheese panini. It was one small piece of steak down the middle of a large piece of bread. The steak was tough and hard to bite without pulling the whole piece off the sandwich. Couldn't taste any horseradish or cheese. Very disappointing to pay ten bucks for a large piece of bread and very little else. Also it was more like roast beef, not steak by any measure. Their online ordering/store pick up service is worthless. I ordered at 8pm on Wednesday for pick up 6pm on Thursday. When I arrived to pick up my bread that day, they were out. I asked why my loaf -- which I was already billed for -- wasn't set aside for my pick up. How absurd that bake to your request but don't set it aside for you. Instead they charge you for the item, and then sell it to another customer. I'll never do this again. read more

Deplorable from start to finish. Not a huge panera fan but this location is the worst. Ceiling is leaking water for 1/3 of seating area and where one picks up their food orders, so they just put a few buckets down and a caution sign. Was worried the mystery liquid would drip in my food and almost slipped from the watery floor getting it. Ordered oatmeal that was supposed to have strawberries and pecans in it- no strawberries. Cashier seemed utterly confused by my order of an item on their menu. Plus it's freezing cold in here. So this panera is abhorrent. read more

I ordered food online yesterday for a business meeting at our local nonprofit, received an email confirmation,and the order was never delivered. When we called to see what happened, we were told the phones were down (not sure what that means, as we were on the phone), and that we would receive an email with a gift card equal to our purchase. This, of course, did not help me feed the people (one of our major funders - so very important for us) at our office. The order was not extremely large - around $75. I did receive a gift card in my email last night - for $10. Now I am going to have to dispute the charge through my credit card company. read more

When I heard Panera was opening a location close to Duke campus, I was excited, because we order from them a lot and had been using the Patterson Place location and the service was excellent! Well when the 9th St. location "first" opened, service was great thanks to the 'Lisa" who I, believe was the manager. Here lately with my last 3 orders for delivery, service was not good Strike 1 ordered lunches to be delivered at specific time ....arrived late with missing lunches! Meeting had begun with some faculty w/o lunches! Def. not a good. Meeting was over when they FINALLY arrived. But, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and ordered again with the understanding that the staff/drivers may not know their way around campus well ( it can be confusing if you are new) Strike 2 & 3 Ordered boxed lunches again with specific sides, did not get the sides asked for; always got what I did not ask for, even though it was specified on the receipt what I had asked for. Well 3 strikes......OUT! If I order again, it will be from Patterson Place. read more
