I am astounded at the wait time and the lack of customer service I just experienced at the drive thru. I placed a mobile order and entered the line when the app said it was ready. The woman in front of me took around 4-5 min to order. The girl on the speaker wouldn't even allow me to say I had a mobile order (helpful info I'd think) so I finally just yelled it after 6 minutes. Then we sat and sat and sat for 19 minutes. She gave me my order without any utensils or napkins (ordered soup) and my sandwich was incorrect. I said no tomatoes. Truthfully, I love to go to Panera Bread. The sit-in service provides a good amount of food, attractively prepared and delicious. However, one can expect worse service and skimpy portions at the drive-through. And, not to bring a whole lot of bad experiences to the table, I will mostly write about yesterday's experience. I really wanted a good tuna sandwich and I didn't want to go inside to sit down. I ordered a WHOLE tuna sandwich via drive- through. One picture below is what is pictured on the Panera Bread app as a HALF tuna sandwich. I asked them to put the tuna for my WHOLE tuna sandwich in a cup because I wanted to see how much tuna I was getting. The picture of that is also below. That cup can hold about 8 ounces. I paused in front of the window and checked the cup. The person who brought me the sandwich reassured me it was the correct amount of tuna. She said, "you get 2 scoops of tuna for the whole sandwich". I drove around to the front parking lot and considered my options as this was not the first time I took home a meager sandwich from that window. This isn't the first time the sandwich would seem like all bread and no meat. But what was I to do? Go in there and ask to see the manager? Perhaps that WAS the manager. She seemed to speak with confidence. I checked the app to see if there was any mention of portion sizes but what I found was the half picture below and it looks like tuna is running over in abundance. The slices of tomato look plump as well. That picture had red onions. Where are MY red onions?!! You compare the two pictures for yourselves. I would have rated lower except I was given also huge chunks of bread to go with my tiny servings of soup and the cinnamon roll was epic. So, in America, where obesity is a problem, this company thinks to give a huge amount of bread but very little else through the drive-through window. I'm shaking my head. I sat in the parking lot and realized I was in emotional pain. I don't know how to describe the pain. It's almost worth going back through the window and paying another $40+ for what amounts to be mostly bread just to examine that pain again. Perhaps it is just a pain of disappointment....or the pain of knowing I have to go inside and sit down rather than eat from my own dining room table... I don't know but I felt distinct pain for just a brief moment and I thought that rather than go inside and ask to see that tiny little scooper, I would take the hurt home and sleep on it and make my own tuna sandwich using thick slices of tomato, a good amount of red onion, and a regular-sized scoop of my own homemade tuna. However, I will also use some of the bread I bought from Panera Bread last night since I have so much of it. You know they just throw bread in your bag atop boxes of food, right? Oh, how I hope all of that is sanitary. But, hopefully, there is not to be another bagged window experience for me. Goodbye, Panera Bread drive-through window. I've gotta say, I'm a bit of a panera fanatic so I've tried multiple locations across the Southeast, and this has got to be one of my yummiest experiences. I usually settle on the mediterranean chicken sandwich or the avocado melt, but today i chose the former and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. Don't get me wrong-- my other panera experiences have been yummy, but I had no idea that I would come to consider them "averagely yummy" until I bit into my mediterranean chicken sandwich a few minutes ago. Juicy tomatoes burst into my mouth, combined with crunchy lettuce, cucumbers, and feta cheese all topped with silky hummus-- my mouth couldn't comprehend the flavor scale that I was experiencing. As hard as I tried to savor every bite, I had no choice but to devour a whole half at record breaking speeds. First off the restaurant was kiosk only available, but the restaurant was staffed properly. No one greeted us and informed us that the cashier was not taking orders, so we stood for 10 minutes without a greeting. The kiosk was out of a lot of orders and did not have any pagers available. Once my order was placed , we waiting for several minutes and no one called our names not once. After waiting for such a long time, I went to the counter and grabbed my own food, not knowing It it was truly mine. At this point the food was cold and not great. Its the middle of fall and the restaurant was freezing cold. The ac felt as if it was on full blast, freezing my food even more. Opelika, Al Panera was my favorite restaurant until this visit. i don't know what has happened to them but they have taken a deep dive. The restaurant was not clean, there were flies buzzing around where the food was made. The place was dirty the the thing that made me sick was the way the staff mocked and laughed about an elderly woman who asked the two preparing the food when it would be ready. They had great difficulty completing their task due to their laughing at the elderly woman. You'll be sorry if you try to eat there, the food is terrible. I recently noticed my old review of Panera from 2017 where I'd given up on them after several negative experiences and now I need to update my review. After a long absence, I eventually started working a job very close to Panera which caused me to start giving it another chance because of the convenience of it's proximity during my lunch breaks. I'm glad I gave it another chance. I've still had a few bad experiences here and I do still think a few items on their menu are portioned too small for the cost. However, I've had a much more positive experience here overall and have actually started to like Panera. I've discovered a few things on their menu that I really like, but my favorites are the tuna salad sandwich, the green goddess Cobb salad, and the French onion soup. I also really enjoy some of their breakfast and bakery options and the coffee is actually pretty good. The new flatbread pizzas are not great, but I do like the new teriyaki chicken quinoa bowl which was an unexpected surprise. read more

Definitely one of the better Panera Bread locations I've been to thus far. Not sure if they just recently remodeled or opened but the layout and design of this location seemed more updated in comparison to other stores. Lots of space and windows, which in my opinion makes it an ideal place to spend the day if you need to study. They have a decent assortment of pastries, but like at most Panera Bread locations they didn't seem freshly made. I got a coffee and requested some heavy whipping cream, the cashier was nice enough to go all the way to the back to get some for me. Other than that the blueberry muffin I got was just alright. Microwaving their pastries help create the illusion that they're fresh but unfortunately this location did not have any. Overall not too many complaints with my experience. read more

The service here is abysmal and the staff's productivity is severely lacking. I watched for over 15 minutes while four staff personnel were bickering back and forth and minimal production was happening. It was a Saturday at 10:15, where there was a steady flow of patrons but not overly busy. This Panera is my go to place in Columbus for relaxing, reading, studying and a nice warm meal. The service here has always been professional and the facility is extremely clean. Whenever I come here I feel welcome and loved. The location itself is convenient and close to a lot of shops so it is a great stop for before, during or after a shopping spree. Ok so I love panera bread Like really love this place From breakfast to dinner and desserts and all! Today I went in and got the soup and salad and an iced caramel latte but really how on earth do u serve soup with out a spoon ?!?? We went through the drive through and I must say this isn't the first time I've had this issue since moving out here but really I mean how is that not trained and also just common sense when someone orders soup? Like when u order a drink you receive a straw right???? But besides that I mean the food is good and almost always correct so that's a plus! We were in a hurry and ordered ahead. Part of my order was a bagel with peanut butter. The peanut butter was not in the bag so my husband ran back into the store to get it. They told him they didn't believe him and he needed to bring the entire bag and it's contents back in for them to check it. My son had changed his order and she needed the managers approval to override the transaction. The manager, who's name I think was Leigh, came over and was so very rude. My wife and I went there tonight because we wanted something lite to eat, and it was the worst experience we have had in a restaurant in a long time. My wife had the turkey chili and I had the pick two, the grill cheese and chicken noodle soup. The chili was terrible and that had to be the toughest sandwich I have ever eaten and the soup was more broth than noodles. The only good part of the meal was the apple. Yeah, Panera Bread. A picturesque environment heaping with loaves of delicious sourdough, a cornucopia of carbohydrates, one would think. Get this. No bread. One could say Panera BreadLess. Yeah. Not only was I greeted with a freaking robot, but DISTURBED to find endless selections of "out of stock". I was harassed. I was horrified. The pains in my stomach motivated me to keep scrolling amongst the vast option-less array. I was desperate, sad, lonely, and I kinda had to pee. Looking for a crumb in Panera's empty basket. Yeah. That was me @ 6:47 pm EST. Yeah. That was me. You know? I would have given up on this kiosk of despair, but HAD IT NOT TALNE ME 20 MINUTES OF CIRCLING THE SHOPPING COMPLEX TRYING TO FIND PANERA'S BASKET I would have abandoned my mission for a lesser carbohydrate establishment. Yeah. I would have. BUT GET THIS. I have pertinent evidence that suggests that this very establishment is a wormhole to another time space continuum. How do I phrase this?? Simply put, I saw my future self. Same name. Same hair color. Same eye color. SAME ORDER. Whoa. Yeah. If I can be fair for a minute here, I want to make it clear that the issues I have with Panera Bread lie with the chain, not to this specific location. The quality and speed of service at this Panera has always been great. They even have a drive-thru now, which made it a lot easier to enjoy Panera Bread after I had a child (everything should really have a drive thru.... I never realized this until I had to deal with getting my cranky toddler in and out of a carseat multiple times during an errands run). But no, my issues with Panera really lie in the fact that I have been a loyal Panera fan since the beginning, and I remember the quality and size of their meals "back in the day." It has declined slowly but steadily, and for the last three years, every time I get a meal at Panera Bread, I leave feeling ripped off. The size of the soup bowls used to actually be bowl-sized, amazingly enough. But either for increase profit margins or to reduce their calorie counts on their menu, the soup bowls are now just pitifully small ladlefuls of soup that take me less than 5 spoon scoops to finish. This is especially noticeable when you get your order to go. The size of the to-go soup bowls is laughable. Their half sandwiches, which come with the You Pick Two combos, are often times pathetically small. Even the size of the slice of bread you get as a side has decreased, as has the size of their Fuji apples if you select an apple as a side. Let's face it, Panera has always been spendy, but when I pay $8 for half a sandwich and a cup of soup, I expect that the sandwich will be HALF of a sandwich, not something that looks more like it was cobbled together with the heels of a loaf of bread (this has happened to me multiple times). One of my favorites used to be the tomato and mozzarella panini, but the last few times I have gotten one (both from this Panera and from one in Denver), they had the smallest, thinnest slices of fresh mozzarella that I have ever seen and were so drenched in sun-dried tomato pesto as to be super-greasy and inedibly salty. Since this sandwich is the most expensive of their paninis (presumably because of the cost of fresh mozzarella) I wondered "why on earth did I get this sandwich?" the moment I was finished. I really want to love Panera Bread again, but as I mentioned, these changes have been slow and steady over a period of years. It is to the point where they have lost me as a customer. The things I mention in this review are now constants, not aberrations in quality, and seem to be part of their new business model. I am not impressed anymore, and I will sadly be taking my meager budget for over-priced sandwiches to a different establishment. read more

Location: Located on the north side of Columbus, GA, near the interchange of HWY 22 & I-185. Easy to find and plenty of parking. Atmosphere/Ambiance: Casual and family. Great for lunch or coffee. Service: Order first and wait for your name to be called except with drinks. One of my favorite things about Panera is if there are two or more people waiting in line they'll open another register. Quick and fast service. Quality: Two of my favorite items on the menu: Grilled Chicken Caesar salad. This is a large portion salad with plenty of chicken and a side of your choice of fresh bread. The other item is the Tuna Salad sandwich, again a large portion of tuna salad on your choice of fresh bread. Cost: What you would expect. The above mentioned salad was around $7.00. Summary: 4 Stars. A place to impress that special someone. It's all healthy eating with FREE WIFI. read more
