I don't review often but...We stopped in on our road trip and it was an easy off the interstate stop. We had chicken fried steak, eggs Benedict, BLT and the all American breakfast and it was fantastic. Eggs were cooked so perfectly and the gravy had great consistency and flavor. I seriously would drive an hour just for this breakfast. The service was so good on all levels. A great family atmosphere with enough sound barriers that we could still have our own conversation without others overpowering. The price wasn't gouging so we were able to leave a very healthy and deserving tip. read more

Parking was a challenge. The wait for a table was shorter than I expected. The pancakes were tasty. The coffee was decent. The service was okay (friendly, but at the same time strangely condescending). The scrambled eggs (something I've almost given up on ordering from restaurants) were made really well. The biscuits are perfectly fluffy in the biscuits and gravy (I've had B&G at dozens of restaurants for the purpose of comparison), but the white gravy that utterly drowns the biscuits is really thick and tasteless. This place has a ton of 5* reviews but this is not one of them. My concern at this restaurant is the health standards followed. If a restaurant doesn't follow one or two of them, it makes you wonder what other ones aren't followed and that's what this review is mainly about. This restaurant is definitely a restaurant where many locals congregate because they were when we were there. Masks were not required and definitely not followed either by the customers or by the staff. People were milling around throughout the small restaurant without masks. It seemed very crowed and the staff was particularly lax. Cooks weren't wearing them and the servers had them on their chins or lower .... except for Ashley. Wearing a mask really says you care about the safety of your customer. The owner must have because he put plexi-glass up between the seats. Good deal but he forgot to follow through with safety requirements at least from his staff. Biscuits and gravy plus the eggs were delicious. Halibut fish'n chips was good. Fries were a little hard and over cooked a tad. The fish was also a little over cooked but still okay. The coleslaw had no dressing. Ashley, our server, was excellent. She also was the only server who really wore a mask. Like I said, it's not just the mask. If one health standard is not followed, it makes you wonder about the others. Wow, it has been a very long time since I've eaten here, about 1979 was the last time! I must say it is just as good as I remembered it to be! My boys tried the Hawaiian roll ups and the blue berry pancakes. Both were very good. The pancakes are huge and they come with plenty of fruit. I tried the meat lover omelette. Unfortunately, they aren't doing a good job with Covid precautions. The booths have nice dividers, but the tables are only about 4' apart. The condiments are left on the tables and not sanitized between customers. Waitresses were masked. Now for the good news. The food is nice. Coffee has nice strength, it's better with lots cream. My companion pronounced the blueberry pancakes sublime and the syrup lovely. I had an egg and bacon, the egg was perfectly cooked as was the bacon. Overall it was good, nothing to write home about. We were driving through town on our way to PDX and found this down-home old-school breakfast place on Yelp. It was a treat. We sat at the counter (the place was full) but even though it was really busy we got our order fast. Watching the wait staff work and talk and visiting with a 95-year-old man next to us was almost as great as our food. I had an omelette and my wife had pigs in a blanket. Both were excellent. I pulled into Longview, Washington late in the afternoon, as it's a 620-mile drive from my place to Longview. I already knew that I was going to enjoy a Mexican dinner at nearby El Ranchero Restaurant, but I had no idea of what was going to happen for breakfast the next morning. This was my first visit to Longview, so I simply asked the friendly desk clerk at the motel where was a good, non-chain, nearby breakfast diner in the general area. Without hesitation, he recommended Pancake House, located a short three blocks from my motel. It's just before 7 in the morning, on an overcast Thursday morning, August 17, 2017, and I'm ready to enjoy breakfast at Pancake House, as recommended by the desk clerk at the nearby motel where I was staying. I suppose it's normal for the morning to start out overcast, as Longview is a inland seaport, located on the Columbia River, that ocean-going ships call on, to mostly take on lumber and forest products. As you walk in the front door, you're greeted by a friendly hostess, and a sign hat reads, "Welcome to Chaos," which seems to describe this busy early Thursday morning. I noted today's staff consisted of two hostesses, two chefs and one other person, who seemed to be mostly bussing tables. The restaurant decor is quite unique, as it's decorated with lots of crazy signs, which give it character. A portion of the breakfast menu, which offers something for every taste. The menu definitely caters to the taste of the Longview locals. Unlike in California, I didn't see anything on the menu that even remotely spoke Spanish, but that's okay with me, as I love everything when it comes to breakfast. Pancake House is open for breakfast and lunch only, and breakfast is available any time the restaurant is open. I adore a restaurant that's serious about breakfast. I was still full from the amazing Mexican dinner I enjoyed the evening before, so I went a little on the "light" side, and ordered the "Traditional Breakfast," with ice water to drink. The "Traditional" includes two eggs, cooked to order, hash brown potatoes, and two pieces of toast. This is my "de facto" standard breakfast, and I wasn't disappointed, as it was cooked perfectly, and was delicious in every way . Pancake House serves a delicious breakfast that definitely caters to the taste of the Longview locals. The service is fast, friendly, and the prices are right. I absolutely love the Longview one-of-a-kind "folksy" atmosphere. When you're in downtown Longview, Washington and you're looking for a great breakfast, pay a visit to Pancake House. read more

If you're in Longview and you haven't discovered this sweet gem of a diner, you're seriously missing out on great food! We stopped in on a cold day and enjoyed two hearty American breakfasts and left filled to the gills. First things first: seating. Seats are wide and sturdy, there's ample space to maneuver between tables and not touch the other. My breakfast of scrambled eggs, two pancakes, two sausage and toast was awesome. I wanted to add hash browns but it was right after Thanksgiving and I had already blown my monthly carb intake limit. The diner itself is decorated in the old Americana, Andy Griffith type and the wait staff seem to be just as homey. This is a family owned restaurant that serves breakfast favorites all day long. My friends who live in Longview, WA brought me here on Mother's Day Sunday. There was a line all the way out the door and along the side of the restaurant. There is no list to put your name on, just get in line and move forward as people leave the restaurant. I was told that it is like this every weekend because they have great service and food. The place did not disappoint. I ordered the eggs Benedict. They were hearty in size. Hashbrowns lined the other side of my plate and were great for sopping up the Hollandaise sauce and egg yolk. All three of us ordered meals and drinks an the bill totaled $36.
