This place used to be a great dive bar that was very popular with greasy Bikers like me. In recent years they have upscaled the place quite a bit. New owners? Interstate still has that "dive bar" vibe but the food has really improved there. Staff has always been great and they still are. They now have roped off sidewalk seating and overflow parking across the street. They are seriously pricey now, especially considering how blue collar Rainier is. But the food is quite good and the portions are generous so that is just an observation, not a complaint. More or less the same "low brow" clientele although you don't see motorcycles parked out front any more so I don't know if they are still Biker friendly or not. I tend to mind my own business so the venue is still fine as far as I am concerned. There are "divier" dive bars in Rainier and at least one more upscale restaurant in town. Actually, Rainier is one of my favorite stopping points when coming back from Astoria because there are so many good places to eat here. You certainly won't regret checking this place out. read more

Went yesterday for the first time. I live in Kelso, so it was about a 15 min drive but sometimes it's nice to get out of town even a little. It was very mellow inside, lots of people but it wasn't loud. Sat at the bar and the bartender was so sweet. Talked to us about the menu and helped us decide on the crab stuffed avocado. We drove from Seaside to this place because we wanted the crab cocktail. The server was pleasant, brought us our drinks, and then disappeared. About 25 minutes later she dropped off two sides of potatoe salad (we asked to split a French dip) and then literally disappeared forever. Another 25 minutes later, we realized the girl was not going b to bring us squat. It was embarrassing, I was starving, and the drive there was horrible due to a huge accident with a semi truck many miles back. We are huge tippers and this person would have made out like a bandit. Don't know what the issue was as she never spoke to us after bringing this potatoe salad. My hysband is not a jerk so he dropped a 20 on the table and we got food elsewhere. Wow, absolutely the best service. Walked in by myself to a packed bar and immediately was asked how can I help you? I ordered a Spanish coffee and it was only $9!!! Played some video poker and won $100 then sat at the bar and ordered a pizza to go. Chatted with a regular at the horse shoe bar and they said it was the best food within a 100 miles. We vowed to eat our way through the PNW, one oyster at a time. And we did a pretty damn good job at it. But, nobody prepared us for here. Do I dare write this? Actually, we came for monster sized crab cocktails. We almost got it. The evil couple in the booth across the way got the last two. I wept. We then plotted a quick drive-by maneuver thinking they would be unsuspecting, and we could gobble them down before anyone could handcuff us. Nobody gets my crab cocktails. Especially when I have driven over a thousand miles to get one. Sigh. Settled for one shrimp cocktail and one Shrimp Stuffed Tomato instead. And those were as huge as a small Himalayan mountain, and just as magnificent (i.e. just as generous as the crab). But I still want my crab. Mr B drowned his sorrows by slurping some huge oyster shooters, and I thought some smoked fish might appease me. The shooters were beyond wonderful. The oysters were big, plump, and only $1.25 ea that day. Whut? The smoked fish was not. It was canned and watery bland, and a small portion at that, so take my advice and just dont. If only I knew it was canned...really?....in this mecca of smokehouses? But if you choose to ignore the smoked fish and someone tells you, "you get what you pay for," drag them down here and show them the likes of the shrimp or crab cocktails this tavern dishes up. Then scoff. At $12.50 ea. they will be eating their words. Cute, small seaside town bar, they come with a pool table, an ancient ship model in the window, and some real down to earth patrons and friendly staff. Great little spot with a great view of the ships and river. Service was wonderful, even though we were the only ones eating there.. plenty of pick ups though, so it's obviously a local favorite. Will be back to have the crab too, which Dale says is the best and most you'll get in the country. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews or even look at reviews but I literally had to make a yelp account to leave a review for the interstate tavern in Rainier. I don't know what they are doing in that little kitchen but seriously some of the best food I've had in my life! So fresh!! I typically just get a chef salad, or sometimes a crab or shrimp. It's HUGE I'm not kidding it could feed four people, and everything is delicious. The lettuce is so fresh, along with all the toppings. We've had sandwiches (dagwood is our fav) and much more and it's all worth every penny if not more!! And the girls are always friendly! read more

This is a real old school type place. The newest things in the place are the tv and the lottery machines & the video poker. It's all pretty rustic otherwise. Cash only, even the cash register is ancient. The bathroom is another one of those one per gender deals- so hurry. The soap in the bathroom is powder. No complaints here, just telling what the place is like. Quaint and hole in the wall type of deal. Bartender friendly. Glad we stopped in. Can't believe no one has reviewed or taken pictures of the place. If I lived in this area this would probably be my watering hole. read more

Parking can be trying. Place opens at 12PM on Sundays. Friendly staff, quick service and about the size of a large living room. This place a a very comfy watering hole...very small though. The locals seem to favor this spot among any others in the area...not that there are many others around. I gave it 4 stars because they have managed to overcome the constraints of being an old place with very little facilities, and turn out some amazing quality food. Forget the usual warfare, this place serves delicious sandwiches, salads, pizza, and quesedillas with fresh ingredients including crab and shrimp. Gotta get here quick though when the crab comes in because its gone in no time at all. They even have all u can eat crab on one night of the week (although I've never had the privelage). This is a locals hang out, a fave watering hole of bikers and a rather rough crowd at times. It is TINY. The language can get foul and colorful. If you want to sit at a table, you'll have to duck cue sticks as you will be right next to the pool table. The owner of this place can be extremely temperamental, sometimes downright rude. This is a small town, and as such, professionalism and courtesy can sometimes be in short supply. Lack of competition does that. The food is pretty good. I've had the turkey club sandwich, which was just delicious! This place is renowned for it's fresh crab and related fare, such as crab louie and crab cakes. Best in the area, but you'll pay a very hefty price. All in all, it's acceptable. I wouldn't make it a regular destination, but it will do in a pinch. read more

The waitresses were very kind, fun and efficient. We chatted with the gal who has owned it for the past 32 years and thoroughly enjoyed her stories about her experiences building the business from scratch. I pass this tavern 5-days a week and often thought of stopping in for some to-go. Yesterday, I did that and here is my experience. At 6:00 p.m. on a Thursday, parking was difficult to find and ended up street parking about 1 1/2 blocks away (no big deal). Once in the tavern, the quarters are very tight and I was poked by a pool que stick twice while sitting in my booth and had someone's butt a foot away from the edge of our table several times. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful, but here is where it goes downhill. I decided on a large nachos with added meat at an extra cost (does not come with meat) to-go. The nachos came in a taped down pizza box with a paper bag containing salsa and sour cream. I walked up to pay and was told they did not take debit or credit cards, only cash. There was no visible sign of the that anywhere I could find. I was pointed to an ATM near the entry. That ATM said "out of service." So there I am, nachos in hand and no way to pay. Awkward. I was told to wait a minute. After over 20 minutes of standing there, a nice woman came out the kitchen with a big stack of $20 dollar bills and keys to open the ATM. I finally got my cash, paid the bill and went home. When I got home, I opened the nacho/pizza box and found what you would might image nachos would look like after that amount of time steaming in a pizza box, they were soggy, cheese was hard as a rock and not a piece of meat was added. And to add to that, the toppings looked like pizza fixings. Will likely not go back. read more

There is a little restaurant attached to this place and this rating is for them. I love their top of the line burger (forgot what they call it). It's about $10 and comes with fries. Their smaller burgers just don't have the combination of flavors I'd much recommend. So if you can't eat the big one yourself bring a friend and split it.
