I was on a quest for the best peanut sauce I could find. This place hits the nail on the head! I have tried the stuffed chicken wings, Thai chicken lettuce cups (laib), chicken satay, potstickers (fried), kung pao chicken, yellow curry, and of course I can't come here without getting the chicken pad Thai with a side of peanut sauce! The son running the restaurant, Pip, is literally the nicest guy I've ever met! He is very friendly and attentive when dining in or even taking out. We've ordered from Pan Tang a number of times, selecting different dishes from across the menu. All dishes are reliably tasty- a fusion of Thai and Chinese flavors- which a touch more flair than your regular take out. If I had a minor complaint it would be dishes trend a little more garlicky than my taste (but that's just me), and the sauce tends to spill out of the containers and get everywhere. All told these are minor gripes- It's one of our best local options in Tujunga/La Crescenta. read more

The owner here is wonderful! He is a nice elderly man and his prices are so affordable! His two sons help out as well. My vegetarian pad thai is around $6 and it's a big portion - enough for two meals for sure. I also appreciate that he is so generous on the tofu and makes it without fish sauce. They make good pad see ew too! Note that their panang curry has a heavy heavy peanut flavor and isn't like the traditional panang curry. It's good if you like peanut curry but I was expecting panang so thought it was just ok. Thai tea is on the sweeter side but I just add more milk when I get home. You can also get it with 50% sweetener which is what I've started to do. Great, honest family business. The reason for the 3 star review at this point is sometimes no one answers the phone during "open hours" and they are often closed even when they say they are open. Ugh. Food was inedible. Not authentic by any stretch of the imagination. I ordered the Tom Yum soup and veg Chow Mein, and it wasn't close to authentic at all; flavors were all wrong. First of all, the food was absolutely delicious and the service great. But the most important thing is the wonderful caring hearts all the staff have. It's mostly, if not entirely, family run and they obviously care a lot about their restaurant and the well-being of their customers. Solid Thai food and definitely best in the area. The prices are incredibly reasonable, a rarity these days. They have all the classics, Chinese dishes, as well as a few other unique plates. Most things are great: pad thai, pad se lew, drunken noodles, Singapore noodles (highly recommend if you haven't tried), tom yum, and most of the curries. The one thing that wasn't great was the wild curry - it just tastes like chicken soup. If you don't mind coconut milk, just go with the other curries, they're great. Also, it's run by a couple brothers and their mom from what I can tell and they're totally on top of it, very nice and accommodating, and always get the order right. Highly recommend this place. Overall, I'd give it 4.5 stars but am rounding up because they deserve it. read more

Pan tang is a hidden gem. I lived in downtown LA my entire life and I always believed that the best Thai food was in the city. Once I moved to tujunga I was very disappointed by the Thai food in the area. Thai food is my comfort food and eating it has to be an experience, the first time I tried pan tang I immediately loved it. If I could give 0 stars, I would. We (my family) cannot even understand how this place has 4 stars. It is the worst Thai food we've ever had. Tom yum noodles were gross, just some broth splashed with lime juice and way too much chili flakes that you basically don't taste anything else, just dried chili flakes. Larb was basically a mint salad, way too overloaded with mint leaves and over seasoned with the wrong spices. Fried rice (how do you even mess this up?) was bad. Drunken noodles basically tasted like nothing, noodles seemed like it they were just fried with some soy sauce. If you order food from here or eat here, please don't expect Thai food. It's just some concoction of Asian-inspired ingredients gone wrong. I seriously just don't get how this place has 4 stars. It boggles my mind. read more

Pan Tag is small family run local Thai food restaurant. We love supporting small local businesses and this place does not disappoint. If we are craving Thai food, this is our go to place. The inside is small, so we usually just order delivery or pick up. Every time we order the Pa'nang curry with chicken and it has the BEST flavor. Lots of peanut and coconut flavors...I always want to lick the bowl clean! I love putting it on top of the pad Thai. My husband always gets it as spicy as they make it and he is never disappointed. The restaurant is small, and doesn't look like much from the outside (a blocky orange building across the street from the YMCA), but inside is a hip Thai joint with an extensive menu and reasonably-priced, good food. The dishes are on the spicy side (compared to most other Thai places I've been in Los Angeles), so make sure you ask for the spice to be dialed down if you're not into that. Pan Tang is a disappointment. Not in their food, but in their service. Usually, mediocre service can be overlooked if the food is phenomenal. In their case, food is average, if you can even get your food. They succeeded on the first attempt and we were happy, but then two unfortunate incidents happened. Online orders stated 45-60 minutes for delivery. Instead, after a 60 minute wait, a call was made to them and they changed their wait time to 90 minutes. For pick up, the wait was to be 30 minutes. Instead, another 20 minute wait was required. Definitely passing on this venue. Two terrible experiences don't make a right. It makes for a hungry irritable person. read more

All I can say is: Nice guy, mess of a place. It looks nice enough on the inside, the faux concrete, the wood, the menus (think hipster Thai gastropub). But when we arrived it was empty--for good reason: We called ahead to ask about the wait and were told that it would be 5-10 to *get our food*. Not wait to be seated, just to get the food. Sounded amazingly fast! So of course we went. Come to find out, upon being seated, it took the guy at least another 5 minutes to come back to us and take our order. Not a huge deal, but then it took about 30 mins to get the food. So much for accurate estimates. The yellow chicken curry was pretty freaking spicy and that was when I realized: He never even asked me the spiciness level. The chicken was very poor quality--fatty, dark meat, not the usual tender white meat most Thai restaurants use. And the curry itself didn't taste too flavorful despite the burning--not that I consider that flavor. The dish seemed cheap at 8 bucks, but rice is 2 bucks so it's no cheaper than any other place and he uses crap chicken. My friend's house rice was actually pretty tasty but the pork was medium-fatty. The quantities for both these dishes were not worth the money, I would say. We would have finished both easily were my curry not so crazy spicy. So we get up to pay (because we never saw him again after he dropped off our food--no water refills, no bill, nada) and he asks how things were, and I was honest: The curry was way too spicy. "Oh! It was medium because you said medium..." Uh uh uh...wait a sec. You never even asked me! And then he was like..."Oh, well, I'm sorry, next time (as if that'll ever happen) I'll be sure to make it mild." What a waste. The only positive was that he charged us so fast he didn't even allow us to leave a tip--saved me the guilt. read more

I give this place 5 stars for the food, strictly speaking. First of all, the dining environment inside the restaurants is strictly no frills. It looks kind of old and worn-down. Once you get past this and taste the food, it's worth it - but you probably wouldn't want to take anyone on a first date to this place. That said, I love the food here! Everything is really cheap - I'd say $5 or $6 per large-sized entree. It's really refreshing to have inexpensive, good restaurant quality Thai food. You have have 3 main entrees here for the price or 2 entrees from most other Thai joints. I have had their penang curry, pad thai, shrimp fried rice and chicken with mint leaves. Their pad thai is one of my favorites. It's spicy and tangy with a lot of flavor. It feels fresh and not too oily, as well. The curry tastes of coconut milk (which I love), and I love to eat it with rice. I would order it every time it I wasn't watching my waistline. Their fried rice is excellent as well. You can have it without any meat or seafood for only around $3. Or have it with shrimp, chicken or beef, I believe. There's really not much else to say. This place serves great food at low prices. Don't come for the experience, come for the food. Perfect for take out or delivery. You also want to call in your order at least 20 minutes ahead, because they do take their time. read more

Anyone who left a good review hasn't had Thai food outside of Tujunga! Sad thai food. We had a yellow curry with vegetables that tasted like hot peppers and Crisco, very little curry or coconut flavor. The vegetables were all poor quality with very little flavor themselves. The laib (chicken lettuce wraps) had so much "seasoning" in it, it was grainy. It wasn't even properly blended into the meat. I guess if you live in Tujunga and you really don't feel like driving anywhere for Thai food then eat here. This place used to be good, but it's gone downhill. read more
