I have been coming here since I was a little girl. Every time I would visit LA I would always ask my grandmother. Can we please go to Chai Thung? This place is definitely nostalgic for me. They have always provided outstanding service. They work super hard and very attentive. It is a small family owned business which is amazing. I definitely support small owned. They work really hard to provide delicious and the best quality food. Here are some of my favorite dishes to order here that are a staple of this restaurant. -Pad Thai Chai Thung -Pet Noi (little spicy in Thai) -Pad Se Ew -Rad Na (Like pad se ew, but with a delicious brown gravy) -Larb salad (beef) -Pork jerky -Tom yum soup -Thai Iced Tea -Thai coffee -Chang Beer (Thai beer) This place can get busy at times, but they were super quick. The place is super clean very neat and tidy. The restrooms are also super clean and neat and tidy, which is a plus. The portions here are very big and absolutely worth the price. The prices are great for what you get. I recommend dining inside. The food taste phenomenal no right when it gets to your table in my honest opinion, I prefer to eat in person rather than to go just because I like the freshness of the food. Thank you, Chai Thung family for always being absolutely amazing to us and treating us like family. We really appreciate you and your hard work. We always look forward to coming to your restaurant.

Authentic Thai food in a whole in the wall plaza. I spent many years in Thailand so this is the real deal. Of course if you want authentic Thai, they will literally tell the chefs "this if for Thai customers." So bring a friend if you have one for the real deal! Dishes are rad Nah pork not shrimp with the large noodles. The Nam khao tod. The papaya salad and pork jerky is good. Those are the go-to dishes for me. The ambiance is not that great since it's in a strip mall in sun valley. So don't expect much in this front!

Love this little restaurant. The ambiance is not fancy but clean. The food is delicious and reasonable price. The service is also very good. If you want Thai food, definitely try this place. And when in season, try this fresh coconut drink!

My order was pick up.Tried this place for the first time, glad I did.Pad Thai was very good -Crispy Pork with Chinese broccoli one of my fav was good and the Beef Pad see-ew was also very good. And they have add ons like squid which I've haven't seen before.I did order for fam and ask for extra Crispy pork but didn't get my extra crispy pork in my order.Overall will come back to try more.

Waiting... Currently takeout only. Order at the front of the restaurant.

Chai Thung Thai food is an underrated restaurant. This Sun Valley gem has some of the best Thai food Southern California has to offer - better than some popular spots in Thai town in Hollywood. Here they specialize in Central, Southern, and Northeastern (Isaan) Thai regional cooking. Location: This restaurant is located in the ugliest strip mall I ever seen in my life, but the great news is your here for the DELICIOUS food, also they have ample parking, and it's pretty safe. LOL, at least the numerous times I been there. Basically, if your serious about Thai food you will love this place! It's home style Thai food;however, elevated. Focus is on taste NOT presentation. And definitely your not there for the ambience! Another kinda cool thing is that there is a "SECRET MENU", not so secret if you can read Thai. Ask them to translate (good luck) or bring a friend that can read Thai. I personally ask the really nice owner why they don't offer an English translation for the "secret menu" and he said to me, "it is because the 'Farangs' (non-Thais) won't eat or like the menu". I absolutely disagree!! Another thing worth mentioning is the SPICY levels: it's either Mild, Medium, Spicy, or Thai spicy. I would stick to mild or medium even if you love "spicy". The Thai auntie (chef) doesn't play! Spicy or Thai spicy here can strip paint, am sure. Conclusion : I will boldly say that this is one of the BEST THAI restaurants (top five/5) in Los Angeles area that I been to (AND, the LOW Yelp ratings for this restaurant is absurd...one yelper gave this place 2stars, because they were "thristy" after eating here. WHATEVER!). Chai Thung is reputable in the Thai community. It truly says something when other well-known Thai restaurant owners and Thai chef eats here. Currently during Covid19 restrictions it's TAKE-OUT only. No Al Fresco. I recommend Chai Thung to anyone seeking great tasting Thai food at an unbelievable value.

This mom n Pop Thai spot renewed my faith. I had tapped out on hood Thai or Chinese food in the area. They have spice levels for many dishes and great lunch specials with hefty portions. Everything tastes like it's freshly made Heads up: They're closed Monday and split their lunch and dinner hours

At the time, there was only one other party and no one greeting. Eventually, a server came to take my order, and I had the chicken curry combo. Despite trying to order this, I kept being brought back to the appetizers, and I think he was trying to get me to order the combo items separately (versus as a set) to make an extra dime, but I really couldn't have eaten that much in a meal. The taste of the curry was acceptable; the chicken curry was sweet. Both the chicken in the chicken curry and the chicken sa-te was very dry. At one point, it resembled overcooked an dry, tough fish. The brown (peanut?) sauce to dip the chicken sa-te was probably the best part of the meal, even better than the rice. While I wanted a Thai Tea, they were all pre-made, and there was no option to adjust the sugar level. Given these experiences, I'm not sure if I'd return again in the future.

Superb food, a quirky, delightfully friendly staff and you can't go wrong whether you are eating in the restaurant or ordering for delivery or pick up. Consistent, delicious, and there is care and attention put into every dish. They definitely go the extra mile too. On a busy night, close to closing, we ordered a good round of food for pickup. One dish was missed. (They made it, but just didn't put it in our bag.) She hopped in her car and DROVE it to us. Brilliant. They are so sweet at this place and again, the food is just SUPER. There is a lot of love and care in this spot. You can see it on the walls of the restaurant and in the food. If you are in the Sunland-Tujunga area and are in the mood for some fantastic Thai food - GO GO GO!

The dining area looked haphazard and thrown together, but I've been to plenty of mom & pop places like that that served great food. I waited for a bit to finally be greeted by the "mom" part of the equation when she came out from the kitchen and whose shrug invited me to pick my table. Still ok. I ordered Thai Iced Tea and Pad Thai with shrimp for which there was a dollar up charge. I was nicely warned that the tea was sweet and made with milk in case I was allergic. There was a lot of attention paid to the salad that was pleasing to the eyes and palate. The dressing was light and the salad dressed well. Then the Pad Thai came out as a pile of congealed noodles and 3 shrimp. The shrimp tasted fine, but the noodles had no taste. I was really hoping for Thai flavors, but left still wanting Thai food.

Thai food at its best is vibrant and flavorful, and this was the farthest from that. I'm honestly stunned this place got such good reviews. And the service was awful. The first round of food came and we waited more than 20 minutes for the second round. The third round came out quicker after that, but it still wasn't great. The server didn't stop by and explain why there was such a delay and didn't apologize for such a long wait. When half the table is eating and the other half has to wait around a half hour to eat, it really is a terrible experience. I also had to go up to the counter to request a check and had to go to the counter again to pay, otherwise we might still be waiting for them to figure it out. And charging an 18% "service fee" for a party of six, when you provide such poor service, is incredibly disrespectful. It's no wonder we were ignored, because the server knew she was going to get 18% regardless.
