I called and asked about the dairy-free selection and they were incredibly helpful. Encouraged, I swung by during my lunch break and was very impressed with their dairy-free selection. Didn't realize that their entire menu was gluten free and tree-nut free (I have n=1 friend who would have appreciated this). I also liked that they separated the vegan and non-vegan items (we were fine with eggs so went non-vegan). The same person I spoke with on the phone greeted me and I went with her recommendation of the non-vegan chocolate mousse cake. While waiting, I had a gluten-free multigrain bagel (toasted) with cream cheese. It was really good! I was pretty shocked because I expected it to taste like cardboard to be honest. Now the mousse cake. I held my breath as the birthday girl ate the first bite. She loved it! Guess what. I loved it too! Well if I ever need a nut free, gluten free, or vegan baked good, I can take a short drive to Plainview for BNB. I may also return for a bagel.

I bought one of their Amish sugar cookies, which was a very soft sugar cookie, almost cake-like in texture, but still very much a cookie, which then had a layer of perfectly prepared vanilla buttercream, and then a drizzle of chocolate ganache. This normally would not be something I'd buy or eat, but when I saw it in the display case, it was callin' my name, and I'm soooooooo glad it did. It was spectacular. Soft, fragrant, buttery, creamy, sweet but not overly, with just a hint of salt. Perfection. I also bought a pint of their banana cream pudding. Again, a tout from my son-in-law (we tend to like the same kinds of foods), and it was AMAAAAAZING. Yes, in my opinion, it easily surpasses Magnolia Bakery's claim to the best banana pudding. I ate the entire amount by myself. EASILY. What flavor !!!!!!!! I also bought some little lemon cake/cookie, a Lemon Blossom, I believe... not really sure how to describe it, but it had a lovely lemon flavor, and I ate it in one bite. Lastly, I bought a lemon blueberry scone, and that was excellent, too. They had a number of cupcake flavors that all looked great, but I don't typically buy cupcakes. There were a few other bakery items that I also didn't buy, but I can assure you that when I return to NY to visit family, I will request a return visit here. It was moist and flavorful but it crumbled to the touch. I couldn't put my finger on what was causing it, I felt like something was maybe missing from the recipe. It was later in the day when it came to me the answer to my problem. The cake it self had been made fresh, then frozen, thawed out, frosted and decorated. The freezing of the cake made it crumble at time of service. Very disappointing. I didn't last minute order this cake, so why they used frozen cake for my order I cannot understand. Convenience for them I guess, but I was not informed that previously frozen cake would be an option. Each and every piece of cake just crumbled on the plate and presentation was horrible.
